So you're thinking about enlisting or going officer at 30?
Good, I was 32!
AGE IS NOT A FACTOR. -- If you are you GOOD SHAPE & have HUMILITY -- YOU WILL SUCCED.
Go in with an open mind and play the game. It's a fun experience and you'll never know unless you serve!
I got rejected by the marines, yesterday because I’m 29, they broke my heart. The same day I got a called from the army, long story short, I have an appointment with a recruiter this week 👍
was looking at the marines a day before my 29th birthday, too! the irony 😂😂
Oz T hey the same exact thing happened to me and then I joined the army but I had a few surgeries the Marines said they wouldn’t waive for me. Also I just posted a video and accidentally dedicated it to you when I was supposed to be for someone else but I’ll go ahead and make a video about rejection during applying for the military
Six Figure Couch Surfer thank you sir ! 🇺🇸💪
I’m 30 will the marines reject me?
@@wackedout13 most likely they have a age limit and from the people i heard they tend to be strict about that aspect. Dont give up talk to multiple recruiters and check
I went to basic at the age of 30. I was older than all my drill sergeants. My nickname was old man. But I came in with humility and an open mind. My bunkmate was a young kid. Ill never forget the bond we made during basic. Any other scenario, we probably would have never met. Two completely different types of people and age differences but being put in the suck together creates a bond that is hard to explain to people who have not gone through it. Its the best decision I made. Didn't matter being older. Just glad I did it. Thanks for the video.
We have a super similar story, I appreciate you sharing this. Thanks for the comment
army does that to you man, we are all in uniform, we have to watch each others back so, there is a sense of Unity.
I’d love to talk to you about this, currently on that same road.
I'm 35 I just received my green card this month. I must give back to my country thanks
That is very commendable of you and I hope you inspire many others to join. If you have questions please let me know. You’ll be able to grow in many ways on this journey. feel free to message me through Instagram @sixfigurecouchsurfer
Wow! If only more were like you! That's extremely commendable. Thank you for your service when you do join. Good luck on everything! Would like to see some videos regarding your journey, friend!
Jess Ernst we are out there man
Thunder7, I'm also waiting for my green card and I'm 33. First thing I want to do is go talk to my recruiter. This video has inspired me, he talked about the same concerns I have and it's really helpful to hear the actual experience.
Same here. Met with my recruiter yesterday and got my green card 2 years ago. Definitely gotta give back to this amazing country.
I am 32 a mom of a 14-year-old and ready to be ship out to navy's boot camp in September.
Best of luck. 30 myself leaving for the navy January
wow, that's inspiring. thanks for that sacrifice. hope your kid is inspired by your hard work too
Aww well once you finish that contract come check out the Army.
That is incredible; you'll be strong female role model for many to learn from. thanks for sharing about your courage to join and be a leader! pls let me know what else you want me to post about =)
@@SixFigureCouchSurfer Hey I'm Be! I'm inspired by your vids bro, i've watched a ton of them! I'm almost 30. Can i send you some personal messages about OCS etc?
Working on getting in at 34. This is very encouraging. Thank you 🙏🏽💛
Did you already take the ASVAB?
DiamoNdaRough510 So am I? Good Luck to You!

Thank you, I needed to hear this, I've felt that same itch for years and now that I'm 30 still staring at that ledge I think I'm ready to dive in.
do it! you'll love the results of you become through the process. it's a tough challenge but you'll do well
You’re awesome man! All those concerns I’ve always had and you just encouraged the hell out of me! I thank you for your service and I am grateful your part of our great military service. There are men and women there who could use someone like you to look up too. Thank you brotha!
At 34 I thought that the dream of serving my country was a pipe dream. Thank you so much for this video.
You are definitely not too old man if I could do it anyone can do it
How was to you enlist at 34?
Joins the military. Becomes a cook lol
What’s up man I’m 28 and was thinking it’s too late but thank you this is the exact video I was looking for! Great advice and encouragement as well as feedback for us thinking it’s too late, much needed, thank you again!
Same here brother. I tried to enlist in Marine Corps from 18-20 but I required a waiver for something minor. At the time the Marine Corps wasn’t accepting to many recruits (08-10). I couldn’t convince myself to join the ARMY because I wanted to be a Marine. But I am 28 now & I STILL desire to serve. I may be to old for USMC, but I know I still have an opportunity for the ARMY.
Shit I'm 25 and I though I was to old.
I’ll be turning 28 next month and I’m studying the Asvab. Really hope I can enlist to the marine Corp.
absolutely Nick, if I can do it anyone can. This old man is still hangin in there =). I know it can be discouraging to hear the negativity around us and within our own minds but just know that the only limiting factor is yourself; so when you say it's possible it IS POSSIBLE. keep me posted about your journey. pls let me know what else you want me to post about =)
28 swore in as a 11x with a option. Just do it man there was a hand ful of guys at meps my age and older..
I’m 33 and almost gave up
But not now
Thank you Man
I needed this
Me too
Did you go for it ?

@@paulgirard1667 That's whats up bro, I'm 32 and I ship AUG OSUT. Goodluck !
I'm 31 getting ready to start my enlistment process. This video really gave me a ton of courage. I really related to that feeling nagging at your soul feeling like you need to be out there on that journey
you'll do great! keep me posted on how life goes as you join up. happy to help
Thanks man! I'll be 29 in a couple weeks and I've been losing weight and specifically to join the army like i wanted to 10 years ago when i graduated high school. I have about 60 pounds to go but i still need to work on my running and other things. It's great to see someone talk about the experience they've had so far being older it gives me hope. Good Luck!
Thank you for posting this. Always has been a dream of mine. I hope all stars will line up for it to happen.
Thank you for this video it help me a lot and I truly understand you when you said it's something itching at you I know you be safe and blessings on your journey
31 years old and just passed my ASVAB and physical at MEPS last week. Just waiting on a waiver to go through for getting caught drinking underage back in 06. Lol.
Congrats! keep up the cardio and don't let the past or any shame/negativity hold you back. Follow your heart and people will show up to help you in. Inspire others with you story man that's awesome
Waiver went through and I enlisted 2 weeks ago as a 19D. I ship out on the 28th of this month! 🇺🇸🤘🏻
Ricky Paul how long did your waiver take? My recruiter said they can take up to 6 months!
@@Ricky_P_ how long for your waiver
I’m 38, going to BCT at 39, so far I have made look bad 80% of kids around me, while they make excuses I keep myself focused and giving all to the field. At meps/ future soldier training and other events, all I have received is respect ✊. Complements for being on time 10mins before, for helping others when allowed, for not participating in profane conversations and for listening well and executing directions as given. Also I workout every weekday morning while they finds it stupid since ACFT it’s not a graduation requirement for now 🤷🏻♂️.
I'm a 29 year old mother of an 11 year old. I've been thinking about it for so long and I feel like now she's at an age that she understands why I want to join, and I am mentally ready for the commitment as an adult. You're correct, we all have our own journey and this was just the extra ounce of inspiration I needed. Thank you!
I am subscribing to the channel, from all the contant that is out there about joining after 30+, this is far the best I seen. It helps you get rid of the doubts you have, I will be 35 before I can join but this video give me hope, and motivation to not give up on my dreams to become a soldier. And I am sure there are a lot of us out here who is inspired by this video. So thank you for your service in and out of the military.
Wow this is always incredible to hear. Glad I could help
I think is the most informative video I've seen on RUclips regarding joining the military when you're older. You have a great channel too man - thank you for posting this!
Glad I could be helpful
Thank you for sharing! I am on the same mindset. Hopefully this Covid will not delay me joining too long.
Thanks so much for the video! I’m 31 and felt the same itch- I am shipping out for army basic training in a couple of months. I too am worried about not keeping up physically and not being able to relate to the younger recruits. I appreciate your positivity!! I hope I have a good influence on the younger individuals.
thank you for watching. Enjoy the adventure ahead my friend. Cardio!!! run daily, jog, make it fun, even just a mile a day. don't break anything just slowly work yourself up to more mileage. Love your body enough to heal, rest, and stay limber. Stretch daily.
Thank you man. The timing in this impeccable. Thank you.
Glad you found it Mike
Appreciate you! Great words of wisdom.
All the best.
Thank you
Definitely needed to hear this!! 🙌🏼
This is a really good take on joining. I think more people would be on board. If more saw it from the age perspective like you do. I don’t like talking about myself but I can say that I generally have myself together. Call it being an “old soul” or maturity (although there’s not a whole lot of the second half) I do this this take is better than most. What I’m trying to get at is that as a younger adult I want to fit in and think like others and all places you look for advice is riddled in people my age and and in their 20s. But you, in their 30s are able to tell me something that I fully understand and makes my reasons more valid. Thank you for this video
John I totally appreciate your feeback and think that you made a powerful point. I definitely hope to provide as much common sense information as possible to help people understand the context of leadership any impact makes in other peoples lives. Thanks for viewing!
This video is really inspirational! I’m 31 and I’m heading to the hotel for MEPS in a few hours. Scared as shit but I will know more by the end of the day on Monday
I just want to thank you! I’m 33 years old and looking to go back into the Army. I was once in and got out and yet I continue to feel the calling. I know physically that I can out perform most 18 year old guys so that’s not the problem. I just want a change in my life and your video gave me more confidence to contact a recruiter. Thank you and I hope you are successful in your military career!
I really appreciate the kind words and I’m glad to have inspired you. It’s definitely a difficult journey at times but it’s worth it and there are so many ways that I have grown in which a normal 9-to-5 job would’ve never allowed me. I’m very glad and pleased that I went through this process and met the people that I did along the way
First 2mins into this video and I’m already feeling better about joining! 👏🏼🙌🏼
Good on you man. I joined at 17 with parental consent. At 15 years in, I enjoy training the older people that come into the career field. No games just a motivation to grind.
I’m 29 and in the process of joining. Your video is very motivating. Thanks for sharing!
Rae I really appreciate the comment and the view. Super glad I could be of help to anybody who is thinking about the same journey ahead
I totally resonate with this at 30. Thinking over things and getting into those negative conversations leading to doubt. It’s funny how much weight we give to others’ advice on our own career or purpose.
I’m also ready for the jump it’s been bugging me for years and this video is a great motivation. Thanks for this video brother. I’m 30
You are welcome Dan, I wish you well!
sir I needed this video hard. I am 30 y.o, and I am feeling that itch hard. I graduated college in 2013, been climbing the corporate ladder for 7 years and feel kinda numb. I want to serve, - I respect the Army and your service, but my itch is for the Navy. Been a hard Navy fan since a kid. I just started calling my local recruiter. Hoping to go to Officer Cadet School and pursue Surface Warfare Officer. Everything you said hit home. This helps me feel this isnt a wrong decision, and its something I want to be able to look back at my life and know that I served. All my corporate friends are saying this financially doesn't make sense, you can make more money outside etc... luckily my parents and partner are supportive. great video sir, thank you and God bless.
Thanks for that. We have the rest of our lives to work for someone else. Follow your heart & don’t let non service members contextualize your decision as they don’t know. Trust prior service men and women to guide you. At the end of the day it is your journey and your suffering ahead so deeply know your “why” and that will fuel you thru
Awesome video! I’ve been having that same question you refer to for the longest time. I don’t like the prospect of looking back on my life in my 60’s/70’s and wish I would’ve served when I had the chance. I’m about to be 30 and one of my main question marks was my age, but this video gave me some perspective. Thanks for the video and your service.
Yes it’s definitely uncomfortable leaving a career field to join the military when everyone else is in their early 20s and you were in your 30s however that just gives you the advantage of knowing exactly what you want in life. Just stay humble and learn from everyone around you. Also prepare to be definitely far out of your comfort zone but expect amazing growth because of that
I turned 35 in basic and I can say I learned a lot from the 18 year olds. I went in with an open mind and I grew from the experience. I worked hard and kept up with the yongins =).They loved and respected me and I cherished it and never abused that privilege. I learned to respect all that they offer to the world and I grew so much from the experience. I was National Guard for a few years and finally wore my wife out and I've been active duty for a year now at almost 40 as an E4 =( .
I think l dig the book i wrote on leadership. A lot of wisdom u shared it reflected in those pages
I’m 36 and have meps tomorrow.
Really needed to hear this. Thank you!!
Youre totally welcome Chris
I'm 28 and thinking about joining the Navy. Your video really resonated with me. I've been having that exact thought of what if I regret not joining when I had the chance. Thank you for this video 💯
Definitely glad I can help. I know how much it meant to me to watch other people who were in my shoes posting the few videos that I found. Any information that I came across was super inspiring to me and it helped me cross the line to join finally.

I joined the Army @ 36 with an age waiver; Its never too late. Great video brother!!
Thanks for the feedback and that is awesome. Congrats Jorge
This is so encouraging!
I always felt I was too old and missed my chance, but technically I am within the age limit.
Planning on joining at 30-32 this is very encouraging! Thank you
"emotional intelligence and maturity " yep agreed. 31 and doing paperwork to join the Navy :-)

congratulations on that and thank you for the feedback. hope you enjoy the journey . pls let me know what else you want me to post about =)
Update, switched to Coast Guard(better fit for me I think)👌😊👏 Leaving for basic in April 2020. ❤ Thanks for the support!
This is a great video! I ended up joining the Army for the same reasons you did. I did well in school, civilian work environments and athletics, but I felt unsatisfied with not serving and being a part of something greater than myself. It was a thought that ate at me for the last 7 years of my life until I bit the bullet and joined at 25. I must say it was one of the best decisions I ever made. It's a privilege to be a part of the Army and to work with some of the most outstanding people I have ever met. Zero Regrets and easily the best choice I ever made.
Best of luck on your journey!
Heck yes brother. Glad you posted this comment
Props to those of you joining the military late. Can't imagine going in at 30+. I felt old enough being 20 when I joined the USMC with a platoon full of 18 and 19 year olds. Even a couple of 17 year olds as well who got in with a Parent's waiver.
Man it's videos like yours that inspires me to join, I'm currently 33 waiting for a green card. I have the same insecurities you mentioned but it's nice to hear that age it's not a problem unless you make it a problem. Thank you
You’re welcome. It helps me mentally process my journey when I make these videos and I totally understand the green card process I met some guys in the program that I was in who are going through the same formalities. Keep your head up
I am about to be 32 and am in the process of joining. About to get my earlobes closed after having gauges for 10+ years and once they are healed my recruiter will send me to MEPS. Thanks foe this video, it definitely reassures me! I am excited, ignored the itch to go when I was younger, but am glad I am finally taking the plunge!
Congrats and you are very welcome. thank you for watching!

Absolutely great video. 100% true... im 30 and signed my navy contract last month.
Thank YOU for your service! Navy is awesome I miss San Diego!!
Thank you so much for this video! Very encouraging! I am a little on the plus size but my recruiters are working with me to hit that acceptable weight.
Boris you are very welcome. Stay motivated and you can do anything. Find some fitness mentors to guide you along the path and you’ll become the best version of yourself which will be awesome! If I can make it through 3 surgeries and countless little injuries then anyone can. Enjoy the journey!

Thank you for this. I'm 34 and have been fighting an internal battle of wanting to join the Navy, or Air Force. With a mortgage, kids, fiance, car payment, etc it's a huge battle I've got going on inside. To compound matters, my age makes me concerned. I'm physically fit and such, but right on the ledge.

I love what your saying and wanted to enlist since I was 5 years old. Got into some trouble at 18-19 and could not enlist after trying for five years. Then I met a navy recruiter who was about to get me a waiver and I went into real estate. I love real estate but I have always wanted to serve. What resonates most with me is you saying you’ll regret it for the rest of your life. My fear has to do with some other things I’ve been through and not being able to just leave if I needed to. Anyways it makes sense what your saying and I own my own business now and make decent money but every time I think about the military I just wish I would have or could have joined.
It’s really great to get a response like yours I appreciate it very much. I hope that you’re absolutely crushing real estate right now and enjoying it. I was in sales so I definitely miss business development cold calls and all of the fun stuff that entails meeting strangers to help close deals. Having that emotional intelligence to read people has been really beneficial to me. I’m looking forward to going back into the business world with so much more knowledge and wisdom because of the military. I’m happy to share that with you and if you check out my podcast I’ll start adding more and more information
Danielle, You're establishing a real estate career; but you still have a desire to serve in the military. If joining a state's (federally recognized) National Guard or federal Reserves doesn't allow enough life flexibility, maybe your state has a non-federal state defense force which might provide an opportunity for you to still serve. Don't let the desire to serve be a regret; but, it's your life and you might decide not to risk your new career.
Swearing into the National Guard tomorrow. Really like this video thank you.
Thanks for the video I'm definitely joining I have tattoos so looks like the army 🤘🏻🕺🏼🇺🇲 I'm in great shape just turning 30 about to be in my prime baby America!
Thank you for the video. I graduated from college last May just before I turned 27 with a degree in international relations - emphasis on the Middle East / North Africa and the Arabic language - and decided to pursue joining the Army after graduation. I used to be a heavyweight strength-lifter (I was a big fella at 6'1 and 289 pounds) so I needed time to lose weight and train, so I took a rather low-paying and not super fulfilling job as a private security supervisor which gave me enough work-life balance to get my training done and keep working on my Arabic language skills. It's been such a slow process and I've had so many nights wondering if I was doing the right thing and wondering how long it was going to take. Videos like this keep me motivated. It's my dream to join the Army and go to Officer Candidate School and I'm fully dedicated to pursuing it no matter how long it takes. I find myself consistently worrying about not being picked up for OCS - something that my family and friends have asked me about - and after giving it some thought I think I would enlist. I have that itch that you mentioned that I just can't shake and I'm willing to do whatever it takes to become a soldier. Seeing all of these comments from people older than me who plan to enlist makes me feel a lot better about that decision. Do you have any other thoughts or advice regarding the possibility of being rejected from OCS and going enlisted instead?
You are welcome! Thank you for viewing
Dont think about rejection too much, youll see options arise based on the Army’s needs and what your recruiter offers. Enlisted route is def an option it really just depends on what you want out of your experience. You can always keep applying even after rejection. Or u can try other branches
Im 29 and couldnt attend college after high school and have been working ever since i just feel like im hitting a ceiling as far as i can go w/o a degree. Ive been looking at the Air Force but have always been really sensitive about the age aspect
Trust me Andrew, I get it. (Super sensitive guy here!) But if you PT well and do cardio on your own time you will be someone other guys are inspired to work with. Thanks for watching bro
Six Figure Couch Surfer thanks man. I appreciate you
I'm rejoining soon at 34 but I'm trying to direct commission as an RN. I originally joined as an 11b at 24. Aiming Air NG first, if not then Army NG. You're spot on with your perspective. Physically, if you're an active person and regularly workout, you'll be fine. A lot of the younger dudes don't have the knowledge or experience with conditioning, if prepared you'll out perform them. It's like the high schooler that jumps on the treadmill next to you at the gym and sprints for a total 0.5 miles, meanwhile you're on your 4th mile or something.
Thank you so much for making this video.

That’s definitely something I’ve been thinking about now. I’m 26 , been at my job for 6+ years. Finally starting to make some better money. And knowing if I enlist now I’ll be making noticeably less as an E1 or E2. Even tho I’ll definitely appreciate the BAH since I do have a kid

Man. I’m 27. Thought I was too old to join. Went to recruiter and pass the first small asvab but can’t continue until I lose some weight. Motivated now. Trying for navy then army
Bubba Mane Hey Bubba, it’s yours if you want it. Stay motivated and seek out advice and motivation from people who are where you wanna be. That’ll get you there in time. Let me know how else I can help.
If you are overweight, I recommend the army. They can get you a waiver in most cases, you must loose the weight within one year of enlistment. Mention it to your recruiter, the Airforce on the other hand offers no waiver. It is up to you to loose the weight.
right there with you boss, lets get some!!
@@alaskatuff2048 Is that really true? Do all branches have a waiver for weight?
@@sports4life646 To my knowledge, the airforce is the only branch who will not offer you a waiver. I was 5lbs over their qualifications and they told me to fuck off.
The army took me in. They mentioned the waiver and checked my body fat percentage. If you got a big gut (beer belly) but within the allowable body fat you will not need the waiver. They measure your neck and stomach around the belly button.
TBH suck in your gut a tad, not much to where it is noticable but enough to help you pass if you got a big gut.
I will turn 30 and my birthday will be in the middle of basic training. Thanks for the age info. That really helps
Thank you. Honestly definitely helped!
Heck ya Evan. Sick bike is that yours? I just got a Montague Fit after my Trek bike was stolen. Its foldable. 30lbs so def on the heavy side. Got my SPD clips on last week =)
i joined at age 24 and in bootcamp we had an army veteran. in usmc bootcamp, he tackled every obstacle like it was nothing.
