Thank you for this! Joined army national guard, I’m shipping out Sept 3rd and will be turning 38 sr basic!!!
@@katbailey33 sweet. I just joined the reserves. Glad to have helped inspire / inform your decision
Funny how ive found this video now, im leaving for fort Jackson in two days. Just turned 29, had the best job i ever had, and got to travel all of Europe. It awesome to see im not the only one
Jackson was were i did bct too. Just signed up foe the reserves btw
Im 35 and trying to figure out my branch. Air force, navy or army. I want to learn tech skills to translate in the civilian world. Im currently working in a warehouse and if i continue i wont feel satisfied. The military can help me grow. Ive got the ASVAB training book from Barnes N Noble, i got new running shoes, and im gonna work hard to condition myself physically and mentally. Talked to some recruiters already and they were excited to have me.
Amazing to hear all this I hope that you stay encouraged on the journey and I often tell people just having the goal of joining the military should put you in the best shape of your life and get your mindset sharp. Way to go with all the effort and investment you’re putting into yourself you’ll be better for it. You can always sign up for the reserves if you don’t wanna go full-time, but definitely do what’s best for you.
So did u become a captain before u got out? How many years did u do?
Got out as 1LT. Signed up for Army reserves. Will be a CPT in no time
Pardon me for breaking ranks. By time someone is 30-35, they should be getting close to where they want to be going. When I finished basic training, perhaps 85% of us thought about making the military a career. About 20-25% stayed in. After every war there's downsizing. People who wanted to remain are eliminated. A DWI, bad evaluations, injury, nutty spouse, being heavy, failing p/t tests, and many other reasons will have you going home after 4 years. Then you'll be in worse shape than if you never joined. The notion of spending months with teenagers in barracks doesn't interest me either. Go ahead and float your ego on how much they respect you. That doesn't pay the bills.
Im looking at joining the reserves to help get me into higher education and solidify my chance at getting a legitimate career. I am a bit unsure and nervous at 34..but I think its just gonna happen and I want to take advantage of the time to set myself up so when Im 40 I can have a great career and life ahead of me.
Bruh talk about BAH as a single parent or something.
33, with a wife and 3 kids. On my way in to do Air Force Special Warfare. Nothing I want to do more.
I’m 32 and going to join!
Same thing I did
I went and had a chat because I have a surgery coming up. He said come back in 9 months if you have to get it. I am going to my consultation next month and with the way it's looking. I may not need the surgery. That being said I wouldn't need to wait the 9 months. My fingers are crossed.
I went to BCT at 39
whats your MOS? looking into signing up at 29
They should let people closer to 40 join too. Missing out on alot of good candidates
This is a great video, thanks man!!!
Thx Happy to help🇺🇸
Hey I can't access your vids anymore!!! Can you add them again please?
Just came across your video by chance. I am irish in my seventies so not looking for a career. You are inspiring and I hope your life has continued in happiness
Shipping out December 4th for AV A School in Pensacola. Excited and nervous but looking forward to reset and have a positive future
its crazy. it takes me 17 mins to run 1 mile. Sad...
Hey im 30 trying to renlist and about to get my degree can you exlpqlin the benefits of joing the military with a degree
Dan, I appreciate your perspective on this. I’m 32, soon to be 33. Prior powerlifter who is way out of BFM standards. But I’m considering this option. I have a BS in Kinesiology. It’s just she to use without being a teacher. I’m former Soldiers about joining and if it should reserve or full active. Im engaged so that deff plays a part. I really am looking for that hard reset. Thank you again.
Np. Hope you get the adventure ya want 🇺🇸
Single parents, beware. You don't automatically have the rights to pack up a child and relocate to serve the military. You might have to get permission from the other parent. That's even if he/she has been inactive in parenting. Is there a court-ordered custody, visitation agreement? The other parent has every right to object to you relocating. Since you're moving, you have to pay for the child's flight home for visits. You may not get judicial approval to pull the child out of school to move. And moms often suffer depression when away from their children in basic. I'm not trying to be overly negative, but marriage, family, and the military can be a tough combination.
Dan, how do you exercise 5 times daily while serving active duty? I was a K9 handler. We worked 12-hour shifts. Going and returning from work added another hour or two. We didn't have time or energy for those activities. You work out all day long, attend college, have time to study, and listen to massive hours of audio books while serving the army? Sounds like you are a do-nothing, hiding, part-time soldier, or scammer. That or just plain untruthful. Don't suggest this personal time is available for those considering joining. They may have to do real work while you're studying or looking in the mirror at the gym. And 6-figures (99k) in my city is low average. You call yourself "couch surfer"? That suggests you're a boob. Typical of the lowest-level officer who's full of himself. I hope you get a hardship tour to see that serving doesn't circle around you.
He’s not lying another thing is if your a person who feeds off of motivation like me you will be just fine. Being in a hotel before that trip to MEPS made me 100 percent positive in my choice in joining military. 18-22 ages they was just so positive and had they life planned. I’m thinking these kids just bad asl no they was book smart and knew what career they wanted. Don’t let fear stop you from being successful every job comes with a little risk. Look what the usps post service have to go thru in city’s and they still out here working that’s how I look at it.
really appreciate your perspective from a 27 year old currently in school for my Associates in Applied Science in Computer Information Systems
My husband finished basics at 29 we have two kids my youngest just started school he’s been in about it three years I’m contemplating joining as well
Thanks for this video. I'm 30 female and I'm going through this processes to start. I'm little afraid for all bad comments I've heard but I still positive. Any advice for females?
Yep i had several female friends in the Army I can post some info on that. I write about them in my book if ya care to get it. Ita on amazon but u can preview it on my website “combatpsych” Dont feel you ever have to change who you are to fit some mold You deserve as much respect and dignity as anyone else WHY? because youre human If anyone makes you feel unwelcomed it says more about them than you so just find people who build you up. Some females want to be one of the boys while others keep to themselves, its up to you how to behave but i advise always be authentic and true to you. Your light will shine brighter to guide others the realer you are. (Not sure realer is a word)
Oh and as a female whos 30 you have the opportunity to be a big sis to many young joes and thatll help provide meaningful guidance to younger men and women looking up to you so def drop gems of wisdom on them!
@@SixFigureCouchSurfer thanks so much for your responses!
I’m currently 31 I’m in school for Hvac but I don’t feel like that’s going to be enough so I’m thinking about joining the army when I graduate next year in April I’ll be 32 I’m thinking this might be the right move 🤷🏾♂️
it definitely will help set you up if you plan everything ahead of time and have a sense of what you’re getting into before you sign the contract- if you’re married or have kids definitely adds more variables to balance out but if not, shouldn’t be too big of an impact and you can always go reserves or national guard as well, depending on what you’re looking to get out of it
Im 34 im looking to speak with a recruiter this week
I also joined at 32. Turned 33 while in BMT. Just finished BMT.
How’s it going so far? Thinking about joining at 34
Nice
Prob slower now. Gonna revisit my 2 mile time and record it
Thank you. Im thinking of joining at 30
I joined at 32
im 26 with a one year old son and still want like 2 more kids, but i wanna work and gain experience as an electrician im going to school rn for it and want to go to another college after for construction management or something like that, i feel like the reserves is best for that, but the retirement is different compared to active duty and i go back and forth with which one i should enlist
Thinking about joining at 26/27, married with no kids. Is it worth it?
I am 32 and I did not finish degree. Is it too late to get commissioned before age of 40?
I’m 24, with a wife and 4 kids. I have been doing research and every is saying it’s impossible to join with 5 dependents, I would really love to join the Marine Corps or the Air Force, is it possible at all?
Hello, thanks for this video! How have you seen things play out for an unmarried couple with a child where one partner enlists in the military? Have you seen much of that or are couples usually married prior? My concern is that if I (unmarried w/ girlfriend and child) were to enlist, if I’d be able to bring along my family considering that we are not married. Thanks in advance
I'm 26 years old, weighing 370lb. I want to lose weight in the next 2 years, get into good physical shape and try to join the US military before 30.
My friend weighed 340lbs before he joined and now he’s around 230lbs in a SoF pipeline. You can do anything u put ur mind to🇺🇸🫡
I’m 29 thinking about going officer as I will soon graduate with masters. Will I encounter any shame by not being a prior-enlisted officer?
Not really though and if anybody tries to shame you THEY are an idiot. FOCUS on those that care about you
27 and feel as if I'm ten years late. Adviosor schooling seems to far out atp
Thank you for this video it help me a lot and I truly understand you when you said it's something itching at you I know you be safe and blessings on your journey
I am a single mother of 1 currently waiting to ship out for Air Force active duty. I already had established a family care plan. BUT I WANT TO KNOW Can my child live with me once I get to my duty station?
My understanding is once you get orders cut for the duty station you will be heading to that is when your family can start their move. Some are able to sign leases remotely without ever visiting first while others, depending on the location have their family members travel out to look at various houses and apartments to figure out which one to sign a lease for so it kind of depends.
How did you do your family care plan if you don’t mind me asking? I’m trying to enlist into the army as a single mom.
Im 33 am I too old to join SF ?
Naw ur not too old for SF i know guys in their late 30s who arekoining
Hey I'm age 32 and will be trying to join at 33 thank you for your info
Np user-ik5r… God bless on ur journey
So I just got my DOD ID at the recruitment office and I am struggling between joining as a commissioned officer O1with absolutely no choice in the job I get versus joining as E4 with a very specific MOS related to my degree. I am now having second thoughts about this whole thing.
Im debating that all over again too
I’m joining the marines but I’m not sure if I should go reserve or active because I have a 1 year old son that lives with his mom at her parents. But I heard going active pretty much forfeits your custody rights.
Hey brother I need some feddback from you, but I will just watch the rest of your content and might find my answer there. Im 30 years old a about to enlist for the second time. The first time I was a straw to say the least and was not physicallynor mentally strong, and suprisingly was given administrative leave in 2013, with the instructions to get right and come back later if I want to. Fast forward to 2023 and i have a family married with two children.. Moneys tight, unfortunately. I have been excersizing for 5 years now, with weight lifting and not to throw shade but I am currently bigger than you in this video. Note that I have not seen any more videos of yours YET. So as being a 30 year old now, what is anything that would deter this decision to reenlist.. My wife of 6 years is on board 100% and I see no wrong possibilities of joing the military. But again, I am still working on the angles to asses the optial choice. So do you have anything? And also for the others like me please add to my comment and make it thread.. All information is valuable information and I would humbly accept it.
If your spouse supports you and has the appropriate social support, you should be good to go. Just be aware of the required time commitments throughout the duration of your military contract (tons of uncertainty unfortunately). Time spent at work versus with your family is really dictated upon which unit you are attached to and what the mission set is. For example, some jobs require a lot more field time than others much to deal with what MOS you have. This video was after basic training where I lost about 20 pounds of mass and on average I think my buddies lost around 20 to 40 pounds as well.
Def talk to a recruiter thats a lot of detail i wouldnt have. Demands change based on whatever the bosses in D.C project forward. And roger. 🇺🇸no disrespect detected 📡
@@SixFigureCouchSurfer Thank you for your honest take. I removed my comment once you replied.. It not neccesarry the worlds buisness as yout might understand. I just wanted to see if u might have something that differs by painting a picture. I am currently out or country and will call the recruiting office to see if they could provide me an email, so basically Ipaint that picture for them and see what they say. Thanks again for you're time and thank you for you're service.
I’m 28 and thinking about joining, but I’m really nervous of leaving my 2 year old daughter and wife alone for a couple of months.
Understandable. I knew many people who did it both mothers and fathers, although it was not easy. I was definitely inspired by their courage, and it was clear that they felt very supported so that when they left home, they knew that everyone would be taken care of and their absence. It definitely takes a village
I was 46 when I commissioned Reserve since I was too old for Active (for my branch). Then put my age waiver in and went AD at 48. Pushing 53 and still running around a battalion.
Love it
