  • A vague description of the mindset needed to have for Army Basic Combat Training (BCT). Just got a new phone so lookout soon for a detailed video about what all goes down! It’ll be uploaded in less than a week.
    I hope this video is at least a bit informative and can answer a few questions for some!
    Thank you all for watching 🙏🏼

    Im 32 and thanks to your video I decided I could do it ,honestly I feel like at 32 I still have so much to learn that I want to be pushed to the max Im not scared of basic training .I’m scared of staying how I am now . I feel like it will reinforce my confidence in every aspect. Thanks for your videos!!

      Wow this is an amazing choice of words, I felt the exact same way but couldn’t articulate it like that. The time you have to be in your own mind and battle inner doubts is ridiculous while your here. The days are long but the weeks are short. Basic training was like a revelation for me and with your mindset, I’m sure great things will come! I wish you the best !

    I really appreciate these videos brother. I wanted to join the Army at 18 but things didn’t work out that way and I went straight to work after high school. I’ve been considering joining the Army recently but I thought I was “too old” and I just turned 23 lol. I’m in pretty decent shape and I’ve always liked to exercise and you joining at 34 made me ask myself wtf am I waiting on? Keep up the good work.

    How harsh is the running for the first couple of weeks for someone who has been a couch potato for 2 yrs? Is it likely one will get minor injury, or is the pacing there so we don't get injured until later when we start getting strength and endurance through the training? I never really ran even when I hit the gym almost every day a couple years ago because I only ever focused on how skinny I was (lifts and presses, not runs), not realizing the total value of running for anyone in any kind of shape or weight. Now I regret that I suck at running endurance/cardio longevity and it's the one concern I have wanting to quick-ship.

    • @victorgibson8587
      @victorgibson8587  2 года назад +3

      I can totally relate to this! So running is a big part of the army, in basic we ran to breakfast and lunch about a quarter of a mile at a pace to where we could not break formation. I’ll tell you that the army standard right now is 21 minutes to run 2 miles. I was 215 when I joined and hadn’t ran in a loong time. Even with a little shuffle I was huffing at the end and still managed 20 minutes. You will get better towards the end though because it just becomes part of your day. At a certain point they will group you based off your mile time (Aplha, Bravo, Charlie , Delta) They will also help you build endurance by doing running drills like 60/120’s. In which you run full speed for 60 seconds and walk for 120 seconds. But you’ll do great as long as you don’t give up on yourself! Thank you for watching and thanks for the congratulations! 🙏🏼

      @@victorgibson8587 Ok cool. Thanks for the quick reply and encouragement. At least I know I won't easily fail just for running badly, I'm just not nearly where I want to be yet.
      A quarter--or even half--mile is no problem for me at any pace, so that's doable multiple times with a couple minutes anything-other-than-running break between right now (and food is a good incentive to run lol). I was worried they would be like "time to run for over 30 minutes without stopping and you have to keep pace" or "today is a long run of 4 miles, keep up" and falling behind would result in an actual problem even during the first few weeks, before conditioning us to handle that. And I refuse to be sent home over a minor injury if I feel I could recover and push through (especially a prep-preventable one like shin splints possibly turning to a stress fracture--never had weak bones, but I've heard that's common at Basic), and would hate getting my battle buddies smoked for me slowing down severely, because of being unprepared (I usually over-prep for things, if able). My body is pretty resilient and fast at most things, just not yet for running long (I've experienced hiking rough terrain 4-5 miles a day with a small group, carrying about 40lbs of supplies each, while camping in the mountains for 5 days straight, so even ruck marches aren't that big a worry since we will be getting progressively conditioned to handle more--aside from potential blisters being annoying because of the boots--it's literally just the running endurance/cardio stamina that gets me). If a risk of failing early were the case, I would need to avoid quick-ship (and unfortunately its bonus) just to prep for the longevity of runs in the beginning.
      I currently do 2 miles in 19 minutes after 2 weeks of running a few times a week after work, but I'm power-walking way too much between run chunks after the first mile. I need to fix that because my first mile is comfortably 8 mins, so my 2-mile time should not be exceeding 17 mins.

    Hey brother, did you have any prior service with you at Basic? How were they treated after hours and etc as far as privileges and also during training?

    • @victorgibson8587
      @victorgibson8587  Год назад +2

      Hey! No prior service at all. JROTC back in high school, so some things were just muscle memory. So after hours was a riot, those were the good times where people were able to release some steam after a hard day. No privileges honestly. I will say that if you carried yourself with maturity and respect, the drill Sgt‘s will treat you like an adult. But during training if you’re a bit older, I feel like they push you harder which was something I appreciated greatly! I hope this helped!

    • @victorgibson8587
      @victorgibson8587  Год назад

      Great question! E-4 is as high as you can get while going through basic and AIT. The best course of action when you graduate would be to work on your points as much as possible, acquire your time in service so that you can skip CPL and become Sgt.
