I just hope you don't get in trouble for defacing these coins because from what I understand this is actually a criminal offense. I'd rather make a good one-off and use that to make copies by melting and pouring your own brass. That way you can also remove the CNC pattern. Otherwise I really like this project, it's a nice way to learn more about your machine. Why did you decide to engrave it in lines from the bottom to the top, instead of doing contour cuts? I think contour cuts leave less artifacts.
*I was thinking about buying a CNC router for making challenge coins and was curious now that you've owned the 3018 CNC-machine for awhile if you would still recommend that one or another? I was shocked how inexpensive it was but certainly wouldn't mind spending more if it meant better results. Further, I'd love to know the software that is used can be found in English because the last two laser engravers I bought were all CAD2 but in Chinese until I upgraded to a much better and far more user-friendly Laser Lightburn software.*
It's so relaxing watching lathe and CNC work. Can you get into trouble for doing that to coins? I think you can in Australia for defacing legal tender. But who cares they look awesome!
At least in USA I think there are exceptions for art or educational purposes. I think that law is directed towards remelting coins and selling the raw metal but I’m no expert.
Very cool. I would love to put an actual key on it to use as a hard wallet for exactly 1 Bitcoin. Then frame it nicely on the wall. (Engraved the back side of course; can't have people seeing that)
I watch crypto from middle of 2017 and this is a great video. I have also few coins of bitcoin from aliexpress but yours have additional value of own well done job :)
People: What if i don’t remember my password for my cryptowallet?/ What if i don’t have a harddisk to save my crypto coins? Brian: *makes a physical bitcoin* Also Brian: Not. Problem solved.

Some of you might also note I'm "destroying" money. this was also one of my main concerns when I started this project so I did some research. This is what I found on the website of the National Bank of Belgium: _"When notes or coins are definitively withdrawn from circulation, one is not punishable. This is the case, for example, if they are incorporated into souvenirs, decorative works or works of art in such a way that they can no longer be returned to their original state."_ Website: www.nbb.be/nl/faq/mag-een-bankbiljet-een-munt-beschadigd-beschreven-betekend-worden I also send them an email just to be sure but I guess this isn't even worth their time because they just keep redirecting me to other departments and it has been a few months now since I've heard from them. but we should be good ;-)
I have the same mill and I have been pretty impressed for how inexpensive it was. I haven't tried anything of this detail yet though. Very nice!
the coins looking really really cool bro

Leuk idee, ziet er vet uit, de CNC en draaibank werken allebei perfect zo te zien!
I was a BIT CO(I)Ncerned about this work, but it TURNED out to be really well done.
10/10.
It's so relaxing watching lathe and CNC work. Can you get into trouble for doing that to coins? I think you can in Australia for defacing legal tender. But who cares they look awesome!
you could use a brass slug (or Nordic gold in the case of these coins), in the US, it's legal, I doubt it is in the EU
At least in USA I think there are exceptions for art or educational purposes. I think that law is directed towards remelting coins and selling the raw metal but I’m no expert.
Cool lathe & CNC, cheers brother & happy "Making" things :)

Sweet! How long did it take to machine each coin?
About 12 hours 😜👍
@@BrianBrocken 12h hours on two face ?
BANKS HATE THIS MAN!!! Multiply your savings by thousand times using this one simple trick...
0.5 to 20k euro in less than 12 hours 😮 lol haha 😆 😂
How are you using this v bit to rough away the top part? Arnt v bits supposed to only be used for engraving? The detail looks pretty clean!
I imagine you could get even better quality with a tool path that follows the engraving lines instead of just sweeping back and forth across the coin
Awesome vid. Pretty impressive skills.
Wow what a cool coin

How much money would you gain by converting a 50 cent coin to a Bitcoin
Physical bitcoins on itself are not worth that much, you can buy them for as little as 1 euro from wish but the details will probably not be as good.
Should have made them NFTs
cool.
S T O N K S .
can i buy one ?
I don't sell the physical model but the files can be found here: bbprojects.technology/collections/stl-fusion-360-source-files/products/bitcoin-model
