    • @EthansSpace
      @EthansSpace 4 года назад +2

      Meritxell Shepherd yeah lol I’m playing smash with it rn. I think it’s got the same flaws as the stick layout of the ps4 controller. Fps games will feel a tad bit awkward but still very playable. Really the only flaw is how large the buttons are so there’s a lot of distance from a to the joystick. The triggers have no travel which is good and bad. I’ve used it for katamari and Splatoon and odyssey and it’s fine. I have bias cuz I love the snes controller shape.

    For anyone looking at this video two years later, the Hori controller has been upgraded to use USB-C AND includes a charger. It took a minute to sync up, but if you used the change grip/order menu, it connects just fine and you can just button mash to sync after that.
    It's been great for my big hands, the only downside being that it doesn't have rumble, and does feel a little on the cheaper side

  • @mr.whimsic6902
    @mr.whimsic6902 5 лет назад +6

    Even though it doesn't necessarily count as an alternative, you should have mentioned the various controller adapters that let you connect other gamepads you may already have, and they can be all wireless. The Mayflash MAGIC-NS, in particular, is my favorite as it supports Rumble (not HD) AND Gyro on the controllers that have it in them.

    Small note on the Gamecube controller from PowerA, just got one myself-- the buttons are very loud and clicky, this could be good or bad, but given everyone is working from home lately, I'd recommend just using your joycons if you don't want to risk bothering anyone. Can also confirm notes in video; I actually got this specifically for Mariokart, since my dad was complaining the small joycon buttons kept making his thumb sore whenever he played, and I'm inclined to agree. Also just used it for Zelda today, as mentioned in the video, it works but it's awkward. I kept instinctively going for A when I was supposed to press Y or X, similar issue when playing Animal Crossing. I've mostly found it works best for Mariokart or Smash, so if those are games you'll be playing a lot, I'd recommend it (as long as you invest in rechargeable batteries and a charging dock for them, buying new batteries all the time isn't good for the environment *or* your wallet, ha)

      How are the analogue sticks - I have the nes30 pro and the analogues are bad - do the analogue joypad test on the switch and you'll see compared to joycon not only is the deadzone bad the motion jiggles all over the place not smooth like the joycon when held in one place its really noticeable in Mariokart.
      The buttons and d pad are very good so I like the 8bitdo n30 pro pad for those games which don't need analogue

    older video but coming in from 2022 and have to say that no controller is perfect, there is always something lacking on one while others have it, and yes these are often enough to be deal breakers for people:
    Pro - has basically everything except a bad choice of d-pad where you can hit multiple directions at once
    Hori - has great stick and d-pad options, much larger to help with big hands > uses usb micro charging.
    PowerA - overall a great value as the controller is solid > requires physical batteries over a rechargable one.
    8bitdo+ - a pleasure to use for any game, especially with the new grip, sadly it cant wake up the switch so you need to manually turn it on or use another controller to turn it on.
    kind of looking at my options today hence why im looking at older videos. I currently have the 8bitdo but not being able to wake up the system is slowly becoming an annoyance. Im likely going to designate that to pc only now and get a pro, only swapping back if i heavily need to use the d-pad.

    I will say the Pro Controller may be pricey, but it's so worth it mainly for the button remapping alone. I can change the layout to reflect others such as into an N64 controller, or a Gamecube controller, even an Xbox or PS controller if you're like me and prefer to keep the select button the same across all your consoles. So even though it is expensive, the button remapping is basically giving you multiple controllers if you think about it. But I will say "Power A" and "8BitDo" are my other favorites just for the feel alone while holding them.

It has all of the standard inputs for AAA games, the D pad and thumbsticks are great, and it's one of the only controllers that doesn't make my hands cramp after an hour of use. My current gamepad (at least as I await the arrival of my N30Pro) is actually one I didn't know existed until I spotted it in a local store: Snakebyte's gamepad S Pro, generic name and all. Wireless, rechargeable, comes with USB-C cable, vibration and PlayStation analogue stick layout. It messes with my muscle memory a bit (I play Switch and PS4 games regularly), but I actually really like the feel of it. Buttons are super clicky and the sticks a little stiff, especially compared to the joycons, but it's definitely worth the 35€ I paid.
