The PowerA Fusion Pro controller for Nintendo Switch is a one hundred dollar Pro Controller Alternative. It really does feel like a premium product, but is it really worth all that extra cash?

Fancy controllers are nice and all, but that high-five was sublime.
Tynology's in here!? And he's at the top of the comment section! Dude, your latest Switch controller video is awesome!
@@NeanderMeander Ayyyy you know it! You got me buying up old copies of THPS after your last video!
I didn't even realize it till I saw your comment... Had to go back and watch the slap 3 times lol
@@TynologyGaming That's a good thing! More people need to play THPS! I don't care which version either, just as long as they're playing it. Also, I can't wait to watch the podcast tonight!
@@NeanderMeander Yes! I grabbed THPS 2 for DC and also 2X! I still need the remake haha. I’m pumped for the podcast, tentatively a 10 person panel tonight!
Luxurious and PowerA are two words that hardly combine
yeah i’m not wholly convinced this thing wouldn’t start drifting like my old wired powera
@@raccoonmoder Or joycons
@@raccoonmoder I'd hate to be one of the saps that buys one of these controllers just to have it drift and then have to deal with customer service to complain.
The PowerA Gamecube style controller for Switch was trash.
@@raccoonmoder If you have access to a soldering iron, you might want to disconnect the vibration motors from the pcb. As stupid as it sounds, this fixed a weird drifting issue in a couple of mine. The issue started out as typical drift would, a typical non-zero value outside of the stick's deadzone, then the values started getting pegged at +100%, which is beyond the stick's physical movement within controller's casing, and indicative of an issue with the reference voltage and ground lines. The motors were poorly soldered, cold joints, wires held in place with a bridge of solder between the pad and wire, etc. But I'm not sure if that itself was the core issue, the motors themselves could've been trash with an internal short. Either way voltage and ground were getting shorted via the motors. Removal of the motors fully fixed any of the issues I had.
Not enough people are gonna point out your killer editing skills on that ad, honestly can't tell how you pulled that last shot off, props.
thank you 🤗 peep the twitter for a BTS
@@WulffDen ewww, BTS!
@@WulffDen Right? The side by side part is 'easy'. The final shot however, is just amazing masking and keying skills.
@@adreeeandanothere510 It's totally possible you were being sarcastic, but on the off chance you weren't: in this context BTS means "Behind The Scenes", not the band lol.
@@jlewis4441 ewwww, behind the scenes!
The first 30 seconds - the sponsor skits are always so fun, but I see you're enjoying playing with the lighting (and probably testing your new camera, black object on black background tonal separation, man...!). Good job Bob! ^_-
The holy trinity: Bob, Maid Bob, and Cool Bob.
Bob Maligog
Bob Bob would be nice as a Bob.
People forget this all the time, but a big reason for “pro-style controls” is accessibility. I may not be able to click the thumbsticks in, or I need taller thumbsticks to be able to use them. My hearing aids have a 3.5mm transmitter, so I could use this controller to beam game audio straight to my hearing aids.
that's cool, so your hearing aids basically act as wireless earbuds.
@@chitwithac4487 yeah, almost all of them are bluetooth nowadays. And I have an external mic with that 3.5 transmitter for anything that isn’t bluetooth.
That's pretty cool
damn i didnt know there was such thing as hearing HIV
@@rockoman100 shut up please. Youd be doing the earth and yourself a favour.
The wireless - wired mode button seems like a lifesaver for smashers in offline tournaments... Pro controllers tend to constantly reconnect to the last setup you played on and be an annoyance to everyone
It also has zero snapback issues. It's amazing for smash if you arent a gcc user.
The one main issue I could see is the paddles becoming an unfair competitive advantage, since it can make it significantly easier to pull off advanced tech. Not being able to use a cable to sync can also be an annoyance in a tournament environment where there are so many switches close to each other.
There are also ways to disconnect your pro controller from the console itself (but you need a right joycon on the switch to do so) and you can also just sync your controller to an Android device via Bluetooth (rip iPhone users lol)
Imagine paying $100 for a controller with wobbly buttons lol
And it doesn’t even come with HD rumble nor amibo support
@@darriusramdial9687 Honestly my main issue is the lack of rumble period. I actually prefer the dumb idiot XBOX rumble that makes your hands go numb over HD rumble. It's technically worse, but it's hilarious and my caveman brain likes it more.
But $100 and a lack of any rumble at all? Ouch. If it had rumble and buttons that were set better it'd be a great budget elite controller.
@@darriusramdial9687 It doesn't come with rumble period lmfao
And a shitty dpad!
Imagine paying 100$ for a power A controller. :D
The first time I have ever considered Magic Spoon after 1000's of podcast ads. Damn you Bob.
I find that programmable paddles are good for games like Bayonetta that allow you to lock onto enemies, but require you to hold a button for it. In Bayonetta specifically, it means I can lock on and still have my finger available to input a dodge without adjusting the grip for my controller. (Lock on is R and dodge is ZR. Can get awkward)
"Is this an ad or somethin?" "Yeahofcourse"
*stares directly at your soul*
I just kept thinking that the controller was the google stadia controller cause of the white and orange lol
Same but then I remembered Bob knows better than to pay for that hot garbage.
@@jsan2548 As a Google Stadia Founder I feel the need to inform you that Google Stadia is actually really good. People just like to hate on it without ever using it.
Its red, not orange lol
@@HeroOfTime4298 The input delay is so bad for me. The lack of support and games couldn't justify the cost and effort for me.
@@reyzephlyn105 The input lag is non existent for me.
I just can't justify the money on controllers which are only slightly better. And no rumble at all? I know not everyone likes rumble, but for $100, it had better be an option.
no rumble is a deal breaker for me
depends on what game and how serious you play. if you play any somewhat competitive game seriously and dont do anything else with it, you wont use rumble anyway. though the only game on switch that fits that criteria is smash.
@@Wuerschtle Even if you played a game competitive - don't know why rumble would hinder that, but I'm not a pro - there are propably other games a pro gamer would play casually and might enjoy the rumble with that.
So a simple switch or whatever would be good. Turn it off for competitive, turn it on for casual.
They really don't have any excuse for not including rumble on that price tag.
I got the controller, hate that it doesnt have rumble but I heard no 3rd party nintendo company can have any sort of rumble kinda like how xbox companys cant have bluetooth. if you ask me, i rather have bluetooth than rumble xD
@@chorpeter Nope. HD Rumble that is. By now, only the official Nintendo Controllers have that feautre, at least as far as I know. I don't know if it's just hard to replicate, if there are patents, if it would be expansive or anything, but HD rumble is for now NIntendo only.
Rumble however (without the HD) is not. Most 3d party controllers feautre it and it works. My 8Bitdo controllers for example all work just fine.
This would be good for something like Monster Hunter Rise. Being able to control the camera and still use the buttons at the same time is invaluable.
"This is mostly a Nintendo Switch channel"
*drops the Xbox controller on the ground like its trash*
@TheFreeman: I mean what “good” controller uses regular of the shelf batteries lol.
@@macruz8503 My xbox elite series 2 controller doesn't use batteries
That was a wired controller
@EasySneezy 4 buttons is a d pad also the dpad is one piece
Imagine if the luxury/pro controller industry was this crazy back in the 90s.
“Playing with PRO Controller Power!”
“Sega PRO does what NintenPRODon’t”
“Atari Jaguar PRO Controller is 64 Bits!”
Anyway, thankfully that craziness didn’t start back then. All we got back then were third party cheaper controllers lol
Don't foget those fancy accessories like power glove or laserscope
Back then they actually knew how to make proper buttons and dpads. There's a reason why the Saturn controller or SNES - style pads are being produced again!
I had so many $15 clear wireless PS2 controllers that didn't work as a kid. They were my favorite and I don't care that they stopped me from playing games more than half the time
@@100hundert Because of old people who can’t adapt to new controllers?
@@zuubu jest if you must. An Xbox controller is not fun to use for SNES emulation or even retro styled games in general
I use the paddles for any game where sprint is mapped to a face button. Being able to sprint and jump while looking around is one of my favorite things. But it's definitely more useful in PVP shooters like Destiny and CoD
also the enhanced wireless power A rechargeable one has almost all of these features from the 2 back buttons to the lack of rumble and no amiibo support the 60 dollar version is basically the same controller
I really like how you made the high five between cool Bob and normal Bob, I figured how you did it, and the clap sound was really convincing, but damn, that's hard. Great job!
as a somewhat try-hard splatoon2 player i thought this actually looked like something i'd be interested in, but then you explained that the headphones need wired connection and the motion control won't work with a wired connection so nope i dont think this really has a demographic
ThatSrb2Dude is testing this controller and will do a review on it. (He's a Competitive Splatoon player)
This thing needed more time in the oven
That intro showing off the controller really highlights how that style of finish gets marred the second you lay a finger on it. I suppose you are supposed to handle it with gloves to keep every fingerprint and smear from your palms off of it.
yeah im greasy af. I'm keeping the white shell on from now on lol
paddles are perfect for Dark Souls. Being able to control the sticks while rolling is a god send. That said, I only play Dark Souls on my switch in portable mode, otherwise I'll play on my pc lol
Claw grip gang 4 lyf
I've beaten all the darksouls on playstation, Xbox, and now just darksouls 1 on Nintendo switch. I don't see a use with the paddles. I do prefer the Xbox model to PlayStations model. But I've beaten all 3 with no hit challenges with both consoles. So it's not an objective opinion. It's always lovely to meet another dark souls fan outside of the darksouls videos. What's your next excited project from fromsoftware?
@@MansBestFriend_ Yeah I just claw grip that shit. I use my index finger to hold the run button and my thumbs are free to look while running. Over long periods of time, your finger can be irritated but if you just wanna play for like 2 or 3 hours, it's not a bad way to play. And besides Dark Spuls allows you to remap so it's not too much an issue.
@@kindredlebel9175 it's mainly for rolling while running/sprinting and moving the camera, so you don't have to move your thumb from the stick to the roll button. Same for using items, though it's not quite as critical. I beat it for the first time on the switch without them, it's obviously more than doable, but they're a great thing to have.
The effort you put into some of your sponsors is refreshing. Cool Bob seems like he knows what he's doing. Love the videos, very entertaining. Cheers.
You finally made the vid I have been wanting to see u do this for a while since it came out.
Only switch game I could imagine using paddles on: Dark souls Remastered. But again, if you're that into dark souls you're not playing on switch.
The switch for wired and wireless mode are there so you can charge your controller from somewhere else while remaining wirelessly controlled to your console.
No rumble? No NFC? That's a HUGE downgrade considering it's asking $40 extra
NFC is not really used much and I’m used to having no rumble so I may get it when it has a sale but still yeah it kinda is a very bad downgrade
@@albinobanana8186 I guess so, but still, rumble being excluded is a massivr downgrade
I play RoCo and vigor extensively as I only have a switch at the moment and being able to use the paddles is really helpful with rolling and and pivoting the camera. Reloading, swapping weapons, jumping, rolling, melee attacks all on the paddles depending on the game and your thumbs never leave the sticks ever. I also got this on sale at target for 65 bucks so that helped the decision a little.
What are RoCo and vigor.....sorry for my lack of knowledge?
I've got the Xbox ''Fusion Pro'' version of this very controller which is actually just like this, but without the jiggling controls and it's honestly fantastic. They do have weights in there (this one probably does too) to add to the premium feeling which is... kinda cheap... but *BUT* the sticks, triggers etc are very, very good. And the smooth gliding sticks are a huge upgrade over 99% of controllers to be honest. Oh yeah little tip: if you don't use all the paddles -> remove the lower ones and put the top ones in the bottom slot. This way it feels much more like the bottom paddles on an Xbox Elite controller and I personally prefer that in most cases where I use only 2 paddles.
Here for the content, but also here for the ads, which is impressive
I love how every sponsored bit is a sketch on your channel. I never skip them!
Dude, The things you do in your videos (especially the sponsor part) are the best.
I like back buttons on a controller, even on RPG's. It's handy to be able to control the camera even while fighting or interacting with the environment. Especially on a game like Breath of the Wild where the camera doesn't follow the player so you have to constantly switch between the right joystick and the face buttons. That being said, I wont drop money on this just for that. I really like the standard Switch controllers. I hold one in each hand and just chill in any position I want.
I don’t have the fusion, but on my acnh power a, I use the back buttons for jump and map in splatoon.
11:21: "There's also no amiibo functionality, but I don't think that would be missed very much"
Well considering this thing's price tag, I'd expect it to be exactly as functional is the official alternative, and due to the limitations of it being a Switch Controller as opposed to just getting an Xbox one for multi-platform use, no amiibo support was the final strike this thing needed to ensure I never buy or recommend it.
I bought 2 from them few weeks ago and I have to say that they are great! The only negative thing is no rumbling. The NFC feature missing is not a big deal! I will change the face plates to the white ones once I will receive my pre-ordered OLED model! Great video as usual!
3:28 Epic sound effect sells the shot. Amazing film making broski!
12:39 as an optimistic Activision Blizzard employee once said.. "Do you guys not have phones?"
optimistic? i'd call him desperate lol
This could actually be really helpful from an accessibility standpoint. Someone who maybe has trouble pulling triggers or clicking thumbsticks could use the paddles instead. There’s a massive amount of gamers out there that struggle to use a regular controller. Any kind of alternative option for them is great thing.
8bitdo Pro 2, more than half the price but no NFC, no waking up the console nor HD rumble, but i think if you really wanted those features you could just keep a joy con at hand
nvm this doesn't even have NFC or Rumble, that's sad lol
@@Josuhyes but that doesn’t have customisation which is important with this controller. many people need that and it’s anyways good to have for everyone.
of course this controller is very expensive for most people but it’s nice that it exists for those who specifically need it
Bob could sell me anything at this point. Your ads are so well done. I've always been impressed with the quality of your videos overall, but that editing was fantastic.
Been waiting for your review on this controller, thanks for the great content man!
paddles are a big help in games like monster hunter rise where i need to map the triggers to the paddles. range weapons like bow require thousands of clicks and can really put a strain on my trigger finger after a few hunts, plus it allows me to keep my index finger on the shoulders buttons so I can easily cycle through my items while in the middle of shooting.
I'm more impressed by the sponsorship than the actual controller.
Real talk, I think the 8bitdo Pro+ is the best controller all around for me. I prefer the Dualshock style control layout.
This is neat, but it wouldn't be my first choice with all the other alternatives available.
Thank you, for always putting subtitles in your videos!
Love from your fans in Japan ✌️
I love how you take serious about the ads in your videos. Nice job, really
10:20 That might be a BIG deal actually. On the official Pro Controller, enabling Wired Mode through the Switch’s OS adds a TON of input delay. This makes the controller useless for Smash tournaments because you have to choose between much higher latency or signal interferences.
If this controller somehow circumvent the added latency then it might be a serious contender for serious Smash players who prefer Pro over GC.
I use this controller for Monster Hunter Rise. I take out the bottom paddles and just use the top to scroll through my items on the run.
If you're taking out the bottom 2 maybe should've gotten the updated Enhanced Controller for half the price. Basically the same thing
Broooo! You and littleZ make the BEST absolutely BEST sponsors! I always watch them 🤣

"The Luxury Pro Controller" that doesn't even have rumble (and no NFC too).
like the HORI controllers, 3rd party sponsorized by nintendo
@@valentds
Doesn't change the fact that they (Wulff Den) call it "luxury pro controller" while it is lacking pretty good features. It's like the Hori Split Pad Pro, which costs 50 bucks, but doesn't have Rumble, Gyro, NFC, no battery (which results in no wireless capabilities).
ps: i think "sponsorized" is the wrong word here. 3rd party controllers are licensed by Nintendo, but not sponsored.
And they probably drift worse than Pro controllers too.
“Keto-Friendly” Jesus man, you can’t escape those guys, even on gaming channels 😅.
And I get that Nintendo didn’t implement voice chat on the switch. It’s not a technological problem, it’s a societal one. They just don’t want kids trash talking on their console.
So have it as something you turn on and is only allowed on 18+ accounts.

I picked one up last week. I love it. I use the back paddles for both attack buttons for monster hunter rise. It actually works really well.
I’d probably use this for Subnautica, so I don’t have to take my fingers off the sticks to switch tools while I’m trying to get away from a leviathan.
For $100 I could just commission a custom pro controller. And as someone who currently plays Pokemon Sword frequently, I should get a controller that has a turbo function. Especially when it comes to grinding for special items, mashing a button for hours on end is not fun lol.

The back paddles would be mapped to the thumb stick clicks for me, I struggle to click the sticks without moving the stick, and this would feel so good for the speed booster in Metroid Dread.
I didn't understand how or why the elite controller costed so much until I actually held it in my hands.

I've got this and use it exclusively for PC fps type games. The motion control can be used to augment stick looking for fine tuned aiming without aim assist. The paddles are absolutely perfect for playing hectic shooters like Doom Eternal without having to take your thumbs off the sticks. Now if they could just add actual macros.
