My Joycon drift every 6 months or so, I lift up the outer membrane and drip down isopropyl alcohol into the components and wiggle the stick, boom, no more drift for 6 months.

The best way I have found to avoid stripping out the four tri-wing screws on the shell backs is to push the driver down onto the screw with slightly firm pressure to ensure it's properly engaged with the screw, then carefully tighten them slightly before backing the screw out. I haven't stripped a screw out yet using this method.
I bought the silver aluminum ones and I plan on putting them on a pair of joycons I just got back from Nintendo , they both had severe drift and Ninty fixed them for free out of warranty, they did send me back the same pair so I am wondering if the screws will be lose and easier to remove, should I still do that suggested tightening first? I am really nervous about the swap after watching this and another video where the kid screwed up and the right joycon only works wirelessly now because he messed up the connector and he stripped the standoffs , I watched the boxypixel tutorial , he says you have to be very careful when using the machine screws provided in the kit and to not over tighten them , the kids that messed up said he stripped the standoffs and now he cant open it to fix the connector also I play on a full swap, I ordered an aluminum front and back from ali too , the only thing I haven't ordered is a metal kickstand, I know they sell one or did but it might be out of stock and discontinued ,haven't seen any tutorials on the front shell for aluminum, but I assume it will come with it's own machine screws ,I also plan on replacing the digitizer glass because it's scratched I basically got this switch for free - the grip and charger, console and dock only so that is how I am justify the hefty price for the shell swaps in my mind, I just hop I don't mess it up also ordered a RCM x86 but not sure I will attempt install that myself
Joycons are 60 bucks now so if Nintendo made them feel like the switches body they'd be around 100 probably it sucks bc I imagine they feel really cool

@@Natsukashii1111 not really, I wouldnt say that the center part is the hardest part tbh. The left Joy-Con is easily done in half i hour if u takr ur time. The right Joy-Con may take some time if u dont have the right way of approaching it. I wouldnt say that changing the center part is the hardest thing to do, even reconnecting is easy tbh.

@@Natsukashii1111 yeah ur right, ur disconnecting alot, the Joy-Stick, the Shoulder buttons and the -/+ button, but that should be it. There is no need to disconnect the rumble, the nfc tag, the battery, the antenna or the infrared-cam. I found it the easiest to keep those attached since u might have alot of problems trying to reconnect those. Especially the camera, if u take ur time and remove the stuff carefully they wont brake, just dont yank on them. If u ask me, the hardest part ist to put back the right joycon, after u disconnected the shoulderbutton located on the battery thingy, but even that is easy if u just remove the button itself from below the trigger connect the button and the flex cable and than just screw it together.
the problem is how compact the joycons are, i obviously don’t work with nintendo but from what i’ve heard and researched there is only one company that makes the parts small enough to fit into the joycon, however this was when the switch was being developed and released so there may be some companies that make the parts but that would require some digging on nintendo’s end or whatever company is making the product for nintendo in the case of 3rd party.

PSA/Advice, if you’re not adept at taking things apart, get someone else to do it for you that is good at it. This is the kind of stuff you have to be good at. Take Wood from beatemups, last time he tried a shell swap he drilled his hand. If you have a family member or friend that’s good at it, have them do it. If someone like this isn’t available, always just proceed with caution and take it slow when starting out, get a real feel for the joycons as well as studying the new shells to see what goes where-ish.
These joy-con shell kits look really good to me, even if just forgetting a d-pad on a official joy-con that you can still use wirelessly. I'm already in the middle of trying to find a way to have the joy-con separated but still have more grip, so I think I'm going to hold off from adding another modding adventure on top of that right now.

The only problem I had when I did the shell swap was the ZL/ZR board. I ripped the button cap off the board a few times while trying to reinstall the trigger. Took me 20min or so to get it to stay on. Just had to learn how to reinstall the trigger properly lol It would work without the cap but it definitely wouldn't rebound well or give good feedback when pressed.
If you're having weird/lame/stiff feeling dpad/face buttons, you just have to readjust the four screws that's on the plastic battery bedding and board that incircles that area.

IIRC: The "plus button" not working could be caused by the joycons screws being too tight. Back out some of the screws.

Definitely worth buying. I agree, it's really hard to swap these out, but I'd rather do it on my own and save over $140. I've been joy con swapping for a while.
