8bitdo made the Lite SE recently, finally being the first controller I've ever used that allows me to actually have access to all the buttons I need as a one-handed gamer. No other big name controller company has ever cared as much for the disabled gaming community as 8bitdo.

Now, I do feel like Gulikit KingKong Pro 2 does it better with its easily replaceable and 50 million click rated face buttons, but it lacks the back buttons. Shoulder buttons are now the part that's most prone to failing in both these controllers especially with a game like Rocket League.

The controller has 1 massive flaw that previous 8bitdo controllers also had. You cannot use gyro and vibration at the same time. When the controller vibrates, the gyro goes haywire. The Switch Pro Controller does not have this issue. This makes the 8bitdo Ultimate unusable for me in Monster Hunter Rise on Switch, for example.

    • @mndrgs

Is this an issue on Pro 2 as well?

@@mndrgs Yes, I can confirm. Because of the issue, I only used my Pro 2 for PC games, and it looks like my Ultimate controller will share the same fate. This is unfortunate, because I otherwise like the controller, but Monster Hunter Rise is my most played Switch game with 600ish hours. I imagine that this makes the controller a deal-breaker for other games that utilize motion, such as possibly Splatoon, unless you are willing to turn of vibration. I can't in Monster Hunter since vibration indicates charge levels on weapons, such as Bow. Nor would I want to turn vibration off, since it generally enhances the experience.

Just a heads up. The 2.4G version of the 8BitDo Ultimate Controller doesn't have the Hall Effect joysticks. It uses ALPS. The Hall Effect Joysticks is only on the Bluetooth model. Also, the 2.4Ghz dongle has a passthrough effect when it's plugged into the dock, so you can just connect it to the Switch dock and you're good to go. The gyro works pretty well on it, too. It's a smudge slower than the Pro Controller, but not by much.

As it turned out, the problem is very simple to solve. Take apart the gamepad, remove the stick head and put it back upside down. On the inside of the stick head there are micro-increments on one side that create this effect. Most likely it was just put upside down during assembly.

Fun little thing to note if you’re using the USB Dongle (though, this applies to any USB Controller for Switch). If you’ve ever tried using BT Headphones with The Joycons or Pro Controller wireless, you’ve probably noticed that in addition to some real rough sound quality, the latency gets dramatically worse over time. However, using the 2.4ghz mode on this controller, because it’s freed up BT bandwidth, those latency issues are severely reduced. While it doesn’t really improve on the sound quality itself, it’s considerably more bearable when I don’t see people’s mouths move two seconds before hearing anything at all.
So yeah, that in addition to every other awesome feature with this controller, it’s fantastic.

I bought a 8bitdo years ago for my Switch so I thought getting this new one would be a nice replacement. I like the build quality of 8bitdo controllers, but the form factor of them would always hurt my hands after long play sessions. So, I was waiting for decent price drop on a Pro controller until I heard about this one with all extras of the Pro 2 and Hall Effect sticks... I should mention that I don't care at all about rumble or gyro. I do care about having remappable and back buttons because I can't stand using L3 and R3 personally.
