PDP's new "Little Wireless Controller" is the latest retro styled controller for the Nintendo Switch with a small form factor. But does it even hold a candle to it's competition?

I usually don't pay attention to sponsor products cause they usually don't interest me but I really do enjoy cold coffee, thanks for making a mess in your kitchen
Bob seems to be a full commitment kind of guy
He also makes it look pretty
Easily one of the best ads I’ve seen. I stopped and watched it several times. Very funny. The timing was perfect.
__nice man__
Seconded, that was a great gag.
Gonna start carrying a tiny 8bitdo controller in my sock in case I'm ever held up at gunpoint, pretend I'm surrendering but then whip that out and challenge them to a 1v1 in street fighter 2 turbo.
in that scenario you might have to carry 2 of them...and maybe a switch lite lmao
That's what the Zero 2 is for.
"call an ambulance. . .but not for me"
Or maybe just challenge them to a game of the quick draw minigame in 1-2-Switch. I get the impression they'd be the kind of person to be into that.
...or perhaps defeat them in "Mortal Combat/Kombat"?
Note to self:
Never use the 8BitDo Lite at this guy’s house

Can we all just appreciate how he just makes ads better than the actual ones? Also his explanations where he does things is hilarious. XD
I was literally just thinking that before going into the comments 😆. I was saying to myself: "man if only more people did ads like this". I skip just about everything but this made me stop and watch it while smiling, lol.
I cracked up 😂 i had to replay it lol.
Dude, you want to watch good youtubers' sponsor ads? Watch 'Internet Comment Etiquette'
I laughed with the pants demonstration
fax I actually laughed at the AD
My heart seriously stopped when your switch fell on the floor
Same
i think this was his already bricked switch from way back.
@@aos10 i sure hope so ;)
Don’t worry, he has 3 more in its original box.
Lol ikr I was thinking he probably has just a shell or something he uses
This man's commitment to a bit by literally allowing his switch to fall from the dock is all I needed to drop a like.
bobs coffee kitchen segments are my mother’s worst nightmare
Bobs and vagene
Bob I like the new tighter perspective on your dialogue shots. Perfect lights for that sweet sweet bokeh 👌
I’m from Wisconsin and live in nyc. Love how you say cawfee like a New Yorker but Beag (bag) like a Midwesterner 😂. Relatable
I never really had a problem with the PS analog stick layout. The 8BitDo Sn30 Pro + was a no brainer for me. I immediately bought it shortly after getting my Switch.
"Nintendo's best in class motion controls"
My mind immediately jumped to the original Red Steel game for the wii when he said that.
They learned by the bad mode.
Thank god times have changed but motion control king goes to the vive index not nintendo.
The sequel had good motion controls
Oh boy, another Bob controller video! I live for these!
Eh, even in 3D games I prefer the SN30 Pro+ over the Swtich Pro controller.
-Turbo is a nice function, especially for extended DMC sessions.
-D-pad placement makes whistle-sprinting easier in BOTW
-It only connects when you press start, meaning if you bag it it won't try connecting the whole time
Yeah, I use it on my Switch and main PC on the big screen. Y+Start or X+Start. Very nice.
Right? Only for fighting games where input latency is especially crucial do I even remotely consider using the pro controller over the 8bitdo, and even then I really prefer the 8bitdo.
Bob, what is with you and just making a whole mess of your kitchen? Also, glad to see Sail Away as a sponsor again!
How is your comment 47 minutes old the video is only about 15 minutes old
Member perk, probably
@@Neongen Yeah Bob, sends out a link through his Supporter Discord a little early sometimes, both as a perk and as a way to check to make sure there isn't something obviously incorrect, like a typo in the video title.
Nice job with the coffee add haha always best watched with you making a mess to curse about afterwards hahaha
That 8bitdo lite has seen some things...
The way he pocketed the 8bitdo lite tho XD
i appreciated that sponsership, especially the scene in the end with that beautiful sun!
Good effort by PDP, but the SN30 has such a classic aesthetic
I would agree with you, but the position of the analog sticks is way better for me...
@@michelrms disgusting 🤢
Always appreciate the production value you put into these vids. Keep up the great work
"When am I ever going to do this."
my favorite part.
The extremes Bob goes through for quality content. Kitchen messes, defiling controllers, dropping switches, and scaring dogs. I wouldn't be shocked if skydiving ended up happening.
My heart dropped with his switch when he demonstrated the short charging cord
That was actually his bricked switch from a while back
So technically it was already broken
A consistent issue I've had with 8bitdo is misaligned analog sticks. The sn30 pro+ registers up on the sticks as up and slightly to the right. Same with the wireless gamecube adapter. Glad to see the same build quality in something that hopefully won't have these issues
I haha'd at the commercial, was just not skipping it to be nice but was enjoyable, well done!
Love you humor man! "And other social media garbage." Thanks for all these videos, its definitely helped me and im sure many other to make decisions on accessories
I just love my SN 30 Pro in Gameboy grey. It looks great and is just such a great controller. Thanks Bob, your video from a couple of years back was a huge help.
I never had a problem with Dpad placement, but I see where you're coming from.
The Ad was hilarious. It have me a chuckle.
2:45 Why did you hurt your switch for that shot 🤣
That little ad at the start was so well made the ending as well with the sun going down, goddamn.
I believe their biggest advantage is going to be that their controllers will always be stocked in physical stores like Walmart, BestBuy etc. as much as i agree with you Wulff, I think this is a really nice alt and having the advantage of being to go to my local Walmart and pick one up the same day is amazing. Great Video btw!
why does the coffee ad splash feels _so_ satisfying
That controller looks specifically designed to give you Carpal tunnel
I looked that up bc I didn’t know what that means
Why do you say that?
@@kevinmorelikekevout3639 it's in such a position that somebody with big hands need to point their thumb 90 degrees down at the controller, Like the switch dpad. Very uncomfortable
It is designed for Asian hands.
@@84jordie thanks for sharing!
Finally, i was playing smash with my 8bitdo lite controller and thinking about what other smaller controller i could buy to play smash, and asked myself why they didn't change the button layout of the sn30pro so that it could be more smash bros friendly, and now PDP did it, they are also my favourites controller brands.
Gotta say BoB your acting skills are starting to shine on these coffee adverts!
what acting?
Dr. Scratchansniff: "Vwhy are you acting like dis?
Yacko: "We're not acting, we really are like this."
For me I've been using the PowerA Pro controller on the Switch ( I got Energizer double a batteries for it that are rechargeable).I have gone a month without ever really charging it.
I also got the 8bitdo Bluetooth USB to use the Wii U Pro controller (which I love using, when the 8bitdo Bluetooth works).
Okay but the coffee mess was amazing, and the whole coffee slot was great.
i think i would agree on the homebutton placement even tho i don't own it , im used to reaching the plus button quickly in that way
I watched this again, forgetting that I already saw it a couple years ago, but I watched anyway. That part where the USB cable is too short and he pulls his Switch dock off the TV stand... Classic.
having the staggered analog sticks is a nice one (have been in love with it since I first plugged a 360 controller on my pc) but 8bitdo also has the multiple profiles that you can have synced to different devices (which is also the failing of the new 8bitdo+xbox controller) and so far seem to be the only one doing it the right way (brook has an xbox adapter that can to something similar but the usability is miles behind 8bitdo). Plus, the whole nostalgia thing with the form factor which can't be overlooked as well
dude i love your controller reviews :D
Im sitting here thinking that this would be great for my kids. I have SN30 pro and the PS-style thumb sticks are a little too far for my kids hands to reach well. I did get a POWER A cheaper pro controller for my one kid but its actually bulkier than the regular pro controller so this might work best.
Good point. My kiddo has trouble with the 8bitdo controllers I have as well. (Heck with the pro it's a little bit of a stretch for me and my baby hands.) He has a Power A and it is insanely bulky. He loves it (it is Pokemon, so of course) But holds it very strangely to work around the bulk. I Idon't like it personally because the joysticks are really tall. I would love to find something with short joysticks like the Joy-Con and Switch Lite but in the different (but smallish) form factor (and a friggin turbo setting).
This could be good for my kiddo but he does love that darn Pokemon monstrosity (every time I use it, I dick everything up accidentally hitting the additional buttons on the back) so it may not be worth the 50 bucks since it doesn't look like the button style I would prefer if he ended up not using it and I put it in my go-bag instead (as though we actually go anywhere right now, lol... another reason it's not worth it for the battery life alone),
SN30 pro is very useful to me. And for my 5-year-old kid, I bought him a small IINE controller, with the cat-ear-like L/R buttons. Check it out. It is comfortable for my son at least.
For sale: a slightly used 8BitDo Lite Controller. Barely used, good condition, powers on.
Coffee bear makes this really nice jar with the filter integrated already for cold brew, life changing :)
the 8bitdo sn30pro plus is still my go to controller. The joystick and control stick placements are perfect for when I play Superbeat Xonic.
I like this as something small to throw in a bag but not as a replacement to the 8bitdo option, which i mostly use for 2D games due to the dpad location
I'm already covered on controllers between a pro controller and a SN30 Pro+ but this was still interesting. Good to see some more competition out there.
Your videos are always so entertaining to watch, even if it's just a review!
The thing I like most about 8bitdo is the low latency. I have a switch pro and an sn30 pro plus. The sn30pro plus has less input lag than the switch pro controller over Bluetooth. It feels almost the same as when you use the joycon attached to the switch. Just my opinion/experience.
Getting huge Wii Classic Controller vibes from this.
Informative vid man! Ill stick with my SN30!!
I use 8bitdo's controllers for the PS layout, because since the NES, the next console I had was a PS, I really love the more ergonomic options of today than does days
I watch these controller review videos knowing that for basically any game but smash i am perfectly happy with my joy cons. There is just something about playing while lying back with arm behind my head as a support and my other arm stretched out that cant be beat
I gave this a thumbs up just for you making a mess with your coffee. Well done sir.
Never knew you were from the island my man . If you take uber ever i hope we run into each other love your work!
Love the videos Bob, good content and you're hilarious. Thanks for some laughs 🙂
damb that ad had some nice camera work. nice job dude
Finally an ad I didn’t skip. Not the same ol’ VPN bs and the skit actually made me laugh. Bravo. And I low key may have ordered some SailAway to try 👀
I have SN30 Pro after waffling for ages and I can't even regret it thanks to its three connection modes that let me use the Gyro with Steam when I want that and a XBox 360 controller when I need that instead. For ful gyro though I'm probably going to switch back to the DualShock 4 because I need that touchpad function I simply can't get anywhere else. I just need more buttons! A lot more buttons.
The sponsored editing cut on the outro LMAOO bro went crazy with this. Nobody doing it like Bob.
Hahaha dude I really enjoy your sense of humor EVEN THE ADS! ♥
I love my SN30Pro+ , but I really like offset thumb sticks.
Now that is a small form factor controller I could try. Looks nice.
You sir just god a subscriber, your genuine thoughts and advices are priceless 🙌🏻
I'm very interested in this. I have a PDP wired purple controller which I love, and I have an sn30pro SNES controller but I really couldn't get to grips with it. I can't stand the sticks being in line with one another which is probably why.
I'm glad I've found a channel that stans 8BitDo as much as I do.
One point might be, I always see PDP controllers on sale at some retailers. Might be worth picking this up at stores a while after release in a good sale.
Been waiting for this video
1:14 I was just listening to the audio so it just sounded like you swore out of nowhere lol
I’ve completely lost count of the amount of your controller videos I’ve watched in the 2 weeks I’ve owned a Switch 😂
Got the SN30pro+ for 2D, the PRO controller for 3D and the PDP battlepad for smash. Im all set!
You make some of the most entertaining ads on RUclips
i bought two sf 30 pros
they were a pain in the ass to connect
the sticks started going haywire after a couple months
and the face buttons started to stick down
There is too much chaotic energy to handle in this. The coffee spill, the wire pulling the switch off the shelf, the controller down the front of the pants. Hahahah
The other functions off brand controllers either hit or miss are rumble, NFC, and home button powering on the system. I think 8bitdo also syncs with other machines? Some do that.
I loved my 8bitdo sn30 controller, but it actually started to drift after a few months of use. I specifically bought it to prevent drift on my joycons, but ironically my joycons still don't drift, while my 8bitdo does :(
2:48 the dog lol
Yeah, the dog just looked at him like "theres no way youre that stupid" lol
Most games i play are 3d and because i have been using my switch lite a controller with that layout in a small form factor is something id use when im wanting to play in tabletop mode plus 40 hour battery life means i dont need to worry about a charge for a good while between charges unlike the dualshock 4 which i use for stadia on phone and chromebook
I have the sn30 and i charged it for every 3 days past and i do use it a lot.
I used my 8Bitdo Pro Plus on everything it can connect to. Beaten many games with it now. Best 3rd Party Controller I've bought in a long time.
I got the 8bitdo sn30 plus pro and this is my favorite controller!
That's some professional looking ad right there dayum
PDP do that with all there controllers they flip the start, home, select and capture button from what Nintendo have on the pro controller
5:30 does the small one has rumble? 😂
Nostalgic feeling always the best feeling
I think the original 8bitdo snes controller also has 20 hours. I use It all the time and it feels so rare when i have to charge it
Your content is probably why I subscribe to you in the first place 😭😂 love it 🤘🏾
Always good to have competition, albeit not quite hitting the mark.
Bob didn't mention it but I assume the PDP controller does not have the ability to wake the system either?
The main drawback to 8bitdo is having to turn on the system with something else before you sync it and then go into the controller menu to change it to player 1
This really is the review I needed. To think I was gonna ditch my sn30pro for the little.
I've bought several 8bitdo controllers and none of them have fully functioning dpads. Every single one of them has had diagonal issues or ghosting.
Good broll skills, dude!
My go to controller is usually an sn30. Sometimes the pro controller, rarely the nes controller unless I’m playing the og Mario games, then it’s a must.
I liked this video because of the hilarious ad lmao
Edit: The tiny cable part lmfaoo
The ad and how he talked about the product I didn’t even wanna buy it but he does it so well so I had too
I'm still extremely happy that I got a SN30pro after you recommended it. It's such a fantastic controller, specially for someone who's first console was the SNES.
how do you like it in 3d games?
@@fatusopp4739 it's amazing. Seriously, it's no pro controller, but it's a fantastic alternative. I love it.
@@elcheshireilustracion9396 thanks for the reply! also you are talking about the snes style sn30 pro and not the sn30 pro plus correct? just making sure.
@@fatusopp4739 yes, the regular SN30pro that is straight up an SNES style controller, I never got to try the plus.
@@elcheshireilustracion9396 ok. thank you very much for the input.
This is the content that I wanna see in my youtube recommended
I have a use case for you: The D-Pad on the SN30 Pro looks great, feels great, is the right size and in the perfect spot, but is an absolute mess in terms of false diagonals! I bought an SN30 Pro because I play a lot of Mario Maker 2, wanted the classic SNES controller form factor (since I have small hands), but still needed analog sticks for other games. Based on reviews I thought the SN30 Pro would be perfect for my needs. It wasn't. Playing Mario Maker 2 is near impossible with my SN30 Pro because if there is a vine placed anywhere in Mario's path, I 100% will start climbing it even if I am holding 90 degrees right on the D-Pad. Worse than that is Tetris 99 when I pull down to drop a piece, it almost always moves to the left or right just before hitting the bottom. I know I'm not the only one having these issues based on the number of reddit threads on the topic, but it seems like the top youtube reviewers (like yourself) all tout the wonderfulness of the SN30 Pro's D-Pad. My experience with the SN30 D-Pad is that it is the WORST D-Pad I have tried for the Switch. I went so far as to open it up and use the paper circles mod just to make the thing usable. That mod did work to stop false diagonals, but now I have an issue with unregistered inputs. After the mod, occasional directional inputs just don't do anything, presumably because of reduced contact. So rather than climb every vine in Mario Maker 2, I now stand at a door pressing up and not getting it to open when I want. I guess you and other youtubers haven't had this issue with the SN30 Pro?!?!? It does exist. I am not inventing it.
My point: I came to this review to find out about the D-Pad on this PDP controller. I get that the placement is not as good and it looks smaller than the SN30 Pro D-Pad, but how good is it from a functionality perspective. Please hold Y and run to the right past a lot of vines in Mario Maker 2. Does Mario try to climb any vines? Also while running while holding Y, try to go into a door at the very first moment you reach it. Does Mario go in the door immediately? How about pulling down in Tetris 99; will blocks shift to the left or right when you pull down? I wish this review was done from the perspective of someone who has had problems with the SN30 D-Pad because I really need to find out if this is a suitable replacement. I get that the D-pad looks less good, is placed in a less ideal spot and is smaller, BUT how does it function?!?! I need a D-Pad that just does what I want it to and not make me go up, down, left, or right when I am not pressing that direction. Sorry about the very long comment. I obviously have feels.
tldr: Is the D-Pad on the PDP controller good, because the SN30 Pro's D-Pad sucks with false diagonals?
The thing is that we often take as definitive the reviews given by most of the big reviewer youtubers, but we fail to see that they are always testing a bunch of controllers, games, peripherals, etc. and certainly they do not invest a lot of time with each of the products because of course more reviews means more videos and more $$$ and even if they do most of them are more of a casual players if you want, so hoping for an in depth revision of this controllers is unlikely. With that said, I also bought an SN30 Pro and a SN30Pro+ because of the praise of different channels and to be honest I've haven't played with them a lot since I've only used them for multiplayer games in some meetings BUT I've researched the topic since I kind of a controller nerd (mostly because I play Melee) so the advice is that you should ask/look for in the specialized communities of very technical games(Mario Maker/Kaizo, Celeste). The kaizo players don't embrace the use of the 8bit-do controllers because of the reasons you have commented (missed inputs, phantom diagonals, even broken controllers) and they recommend using in general the controller you are the most comfortable with, a peculiar recommendation though is the Hori Pokken Pro Pad (GrandPoobear has a video reviewing some controllers for Mario Maker 2) which has an amazing D-Pad and it's cheap, I was lucky and bought one new for 10 bucks. To end the dissertation I would say that you should try with joysticks too, I've managed to beat the "Path of Pain" in Hollow Knight with the joycons in hanheld mode, and that's one example of a difficult platforming level, so Trust your Instincts
Try an 8bitdo sn30 pro with the original Gameboy color pallette. The D pad is better than the old models and the buttons have a great feel to them. Works great with all 2d games I've played so far.
Ahh man, another great video, thanks Bob!
I love how well Bob embodies his internal clumsy infomercial actor.
