haha whaaat, there's nothing wrong with the PS4 d-pad, youre crazy.
*gets an ice pack*
Was that a Dashie reference?
This is a joke but also I just don't have a problem with the PS4 dpad
matt k that seems... much much worse
I just use the thumb stick for ctr on PS4 and still got the champion kart so it can’t be THAT bad
@@cshep0551 growing up with the original thats what im used to, inputs are more precise w/ the dpad, but anecdotal stuff is fun
You missed one thing. Sure that battery pack is proprietary, but you have the ability to switch the battery pack and use regular old double A batteries. I think that's pretty cool for a just in case scenario.
Judt like an xbox one controller
It also means you can replace it in 4 years when the battery has reached the end of its lifespan.
Ya, let's all go back to using expensive batteries and replacing them ALL the time! Those were dark days back in the 90's, please no!
I have AA rechargable batteries. Works for me and my X360 controller...
@@kinghoju 4 years, you say? I bought ps3 in 2012 if my memory serves me well, and the controllers still work properly... 🤔

i wish this had a headphone jack
I sit close enough to my switch where I don't need a headphone jack, but it feels very stupid that Nintendo still won't add a headphone jack
ben stanyer it’s stupid that you can’t use your Bluetooth headphones with the switch. Smh.
Pdp afterglow auido controller is wireless has rgb feels amazeing and has two back paddles which can be mapped to whatever button you want at a price of around 45 i think
The only thing is i don’t remember if it has rumble amibo and motion
Zerus there is a 30$ thingy you can get that lets you use bt on switch just search it up on RUclips because i don’t remember the name

So apparently if you remove the battery you can use AAs so that's the 'benefit' of the removable battery according to Spawn Wave
JBell017 also if the battery completely dies from usage you can replace the battery not the whole controller. Example: improper charging will ruin a battery. Everyone would love to hear a “benefit” for a non removable battery of the same specs. That question was really pointed at you, anyone can answer
also, Spawn Wave did mention before that it's kind of sad that the battery in SF30 is soldered on to the board, although it is not quite an issue, it will be just harder to replace but not impossible. So by doing this, they're just showing that they do care and listen. woohoo
Use rechargeable aa batteries like I do with xbox controller. Quick swap and u going again. No plugging in.
Does proprietary means that you only ordered through that company
INFECTEDMANIAC you can replace the battery in the pro controller extremely easily though. It’s literally like 6 screws and the back comes off and the battery is right there. There’s no risk of damaging any internals because the battery access is before the internals access

This isn’t the joycon strap pro deluxe
This isn't sideways joycon either

@DarkGengar94 I hate to be that guy but RNGesus really hated you didn’t he?
I use this controller. It's absolutely fantastic.
It was worth every penny. The D-pad is really good.
It's like the magic of holding a SNES controller and a Playstation controller at the same time. It is not perfect, but it's the closest thing to perfection I've ever played a game on.
It's definitely the best switch controller there is. My only complaint is that it doesn't wake the switch up, which is only a minor annoyance.
I’m looking for a controller to play Fortnite with. Do you think this is a good one to get for that?
Does it have a home button
@@audioribs1005 it does have a home button. It has the screen cap button also.

Keep the cable that comes with it.
Though much more expensive, you got a good controller.
This way you can enjoy HD Rumble (the SN30 Pro+ only has normal rumble) and have the NFC/amiibo reader in there. Also, with the Pro controller, you can turn on your Switch from the comfort of your sofa.
I’ve been waiting SOOO long for this :D
So happy to see it out there
Shame it only comes in the US version of SNES. I want those coloured buttons!!
Yeah, the famicom buttons are so much better
Believe in yourself, open the controller and swap those buttons
Amazon had the famicon ones when i ordered mine like 8 months ago.
Would really love to see a followup on this after a few months to see how it continues to hold up after moderate/heavy use.
I’ve been waiting for your thoughts on this controller, thank you sir!
Sold! Thanks for spending so much time and energy with down-to-earth, real reviews.
The sn30 pro plus is basically the switch’s version of a Wii classic controller.
Been waiting around 12-14 months man. About damn time. 🤓
I'll be getting this because I need the analog sticks to be at the bottom together for Katamari Re-roll. ♥
I need the analog stick on the bottom because symmetrical is better than asymmetrical like the Wii U that was awesome
Dude, same! I was so excited for Katamari when it came out, then I picked it up and it just felt... wrong without the Dualshock sticks.
@@derk.ex.machina 100% same situation for me, man! I tried several times to get past it, but honestly the controls just felt so off/wrong with the Switch Pro controller (not to mention joycons, of course). I almost got a Power A controller, but, now I don't have to! This one FINALLY released and it should be perfect for Katamari controls!!! I can't wait to try it out. 👍🏻 "We ♥ Katamari" and Disgaea were my two main Playstation 2 favorites growing up. 😍
The controller takes AA batteries. That’s a huge feature you missed!
Thanks for the video, it help me a lot on deciding what controller I should aim for.
I now own two of these damn things, and I'm planning on getting two more. I traded in my Switch Pro controller for it. I use it on my Switch, my PC, and my raspberry Pi, since it has separate input modes for all three of those things.
My ONLY complaint about this controller is that there is no input mode which takes advantage of all the features it has to offer.
In Switch mode you get the gyro, but no analog triggers. In Xinput mode you get analog trigger support, but the gyro turns off...
There's gotta be a way to get all these features working together. No controller on the market currently has this, except for the PS4 controller, but the PS4's gyro is pretty floaty and doesn't feel very good.
Also the removable battery is good because it can be replaced with rechargeable AA lithium ion batteries, which increases the lifespan. This is something Xbox One controllers have, but nothing else. Point for 8bitdo
has this been fixed since?
@@cheekybananaboy3361 I have the same question
My first Nintendo Switch (the new revision) is on the way, and I watched your previous video recommended about the 8BitDo controller, already decided to get a SN30 pro, now this plus version comes out, think I just will get them both. :D
The more controllers the merrier!

I use my sn30 pro for 2d games and My pro controller for everything else
Exactly the same for me.
Simon Vermaat, how does the pro 30 hold up for fighting games such as Sf2/Mk11? Better to go with the wired original?
I use a dualshock for all my games! I'd definitely use my pro controller but it started drifting pretty badly.
@@chadthelad1367 I haven't played sf2 and mk11.
How did you get past the D-Pad phantom pressing up/down when going left and right.....and buttons holding themselves down for far too long

This controller is amazing, my new favorite controller.

I bought this controller because of your video. Your review is spot on, this controller is amazing! Thanks again man!
I just picked up the all-black version of this controller because of this video and I *love* it!
Ehm...you can use AAs instead of the rechargeable battery.
I already caved in and bought this controller to replace my drifting pro controller and it’s amazing
I like that the D-pad and left analog stick are switched giving it a more symmetrical feel
This is an awesome video, very informative for my future switch accessorie purchases :)
My first playthrough of botw was entirely with the sf30 pro. I have big hands and it wasn't that uncomfortable. It's a quality controller so this one must be even better.
I’m still really chuffed with my SF30 pro controller, even though I wore out the left joystick playing SSBU. The shape and those lovely coloured buttons take me back......now I just waiting for them SNES games on Switch
Can you elaborate on wearing out the left joystick a bit? I'm interested in Pro+, but I'm worried that it's gonna have the very same issues I encountered with both first-party and third-party controllers I bought for Smash (drift/snapback).
Subscribed yesterday. Been binging ever since. Glad I found this! You really deliver some great content! Your style reminds me of other tech stuff I watch like Linus tech tips!
Got the pro+ off of your recommendation. And getting longer usb c to go wired sometimes. Thanks bro!
Damn Bob were both wearing the same shirt today! (Yes I know you filmed this a couple days ago 😜)
I feel like this is the future of controllers. The amount of control over the... controller... in the Software Utility is insane.
Great video, as usual. I got the pro controller from your recommendation from a past vidéos and no regrets. Been using it for all types of games and loving it. Thanks for this and all other videos.
I bought one about a month ago after watching this video and it's absolutely perfect! Discovered 8BitDo via this channel. Great videos, keep it up man!
Have you played Fortnite with it and if you have it is good for fortnite
Grabbed this about a week ago. I don't have a switch, but I was looking for a controller for my PC that would work well in 2d and 3d games. 100% recommend this. It feels amazing for every game I've tried with it (gran turimo, skryim, GTA 5, Fallout NV, Castlevania, etc). Lasts way longer than you'd ever need it to in Bluetooth mode, and you can always plug it in while you play if you'd like (tho i felt no latency difference). Thanks for the recommendation.
My Gameboy styled one just came in the mail. I'm absolutely in LOVE with it. The d pad and buttons are great, but weirdly, my favorite thing about it is the color scheme. That faded beige, that dark red. Really makes me nostalgic for late 90s - early 00s technology.
Nice to see they added the handles.
The removable battery means you can now use regular batteries as well
I have to pick one up now.
incredible review. got one coming in the mail now. hyped!
So with this controller you can change Y to B and B to A for NES Online (More Specifically Super Mario and Super Mario 3)?
Ewww can't understand why anyone would do this. First thing I'm going to do is make mario odyssey have the proper control scheme because nintendo only lets you change the 2d mario controls for some reason
I don't know why you would, but yes. You can
correct
Neiden Asg Because that's the control scheme for Super Mario World. Since the snes buttons are tilted it's difficult to run and jump using A and B.
@@bex-- Oh, thanks for clearing that up. To be honest I'm not used to the Nintendo button config. and I just thought (Y) would be the top button. (I haven't really used any nintendo console, the Switch should be my first really soon)
Thank you so very much for pronouncing 8bitdo correctly. Anytime I hear 8bitdoe the little pedantic part of my soul starts screaming.
I'm really loving this controller but found it strange how some features are different depending on which colour option you choose. 8bitdo's website makes no mention of this so make sure you pick the one you want. Personally I can't stand the concave X and Y buttons on the purple/grey model as they just leave a deep imprint and eventually blister my thumb.
Would love to see a version of this with Wii U Pro Controller stick and button layout, my personal favourite that no one has yet copied. Nevermind, the NS Magic Adapter will see me through until they do.
Thanks for the great content Bob.
Got mine in the mail today, and am loving it.
Thank you for this video. It made me finally make the decision to purchase the SN30 Pro+ black edition! This controller feels so good in my hands! Enjoying your videos, excellent to the point content!
This is hands-down the best controller I’ve ever used. The straightening of the handles versus the PlayStation controllers is such a minor yet HUGE upgrade, the software is great, and I’ve found that the location of the sticks is even more natural than on Xbox controllers. I don’t play around with macros at all, so I can’t speak to those, but literally everything else is perfect.
Hey I heard a lot of negative reviews for this controller saying it starts drifting in a few days is it true? It’s been over a year, is the controller still good or no
@@game_rboy2895 - Unfortunately my Switch bluescreened a couple months back, but absolutely no drift on my controller.
@@game_rboy2895 - Just wanted to add that, after a bit of research, most of what I found pointed to a lot of drift issues being a result of a particular firmware. The issues seems to have been remedied in successive firmware releases, so just make sure you’re keeping it up to date and you shouldn’t run into any issues.
ordered this on amazon, still waiting for it. so glad it turned out to be a great controller. i've been waiting for this since the first time i'd seen the g classic edition's pic. it was love at first sight.
you missed 2 things though:
- removable battery pack enables you use 2 aa batteries when in a pinch.
-and no amiibo support.
Assume no amiibo and no system turn on unless otherwise stated for every controller.
Yeah. Using double As will increase its battery life by more than double
Just got one today, it's my first 8BitDo controller. I'm loving it, they've made a fan.
Hell ya i have been waiting for this i just bought one before they released the plus but might get it! I still enjoy mine. 8bitdo kicks ass.
My vanity just eats away at me because of the look. I love my SN30+ because it looks just like an SNES controller. If they made one like that with grips, id upgrade.
The SN30 Pro Plus does work as a wired controller, also if the battery is flat you can swap the battery pack out for 2 x AA batteries
Good video, man! You definitely helped out the community for us Nintendo fans! Thank you
I love 8bitdo. I got a wireless pro 2 and a Gbros and they are amazing. A couple of weeks ago I caught a wired sn30 (without the handles) for sale on Amazon. I now have 3 controllers that I can use on my switch, and I love choosing which one I use depending on the game I play
The removable battery can be swapped out for two AA's if you're in a pinch, say your battery's dying and your charging cable is too short. Pop in some eneloops and keep playing.
Well, I think it's more in case your lithium battery ever stops working, you could still continue using it even if 8bitdo doesn't sell replacement batteries. It would be amazing if this could also recharge batteries like eneloops so in case your lithium battery ever dies, you can just replace it with eneloops and continue using it as normal.
8:03 Ironically, DK Country Tropical Freeze has analog variable moment speed, so there is a slight benefit to using an analog stick in that particular 2D game.
Happy to get this 8Bitdo SN30 Pro Plus Controller ordered from Best Buy today and will get it in my hands sometime tomorrow. Thanks for this amazing review, Wuff Den and the team. Having it alongside with my Nintendo Switch and Samsung Galaxy S8 is incredible
I ordered mine weeks ago and it's getting here Friday God I don't want to wait but it's only a few days. Thanks for the video I always trust your input on these matters. You've never led me astray in the past Bob and I know this controller will be great!
Yes, finally the ultimate perfect Switch controller for my Switch Lite next month, can't wait!!!
Wish you luck
I don't like it
i actually prefer the symmetrical analog sticks than the one that is swap with the d-pad, probably because i owned a ps3 and a wii with the wii pro controller
Mine gets delivered today. Can't wait to use it.
I think I'm gonna get one, just saw they come in three color schemes as well which is nice.
I needed to see this before I brought my pro controller
I've been using this bad-boy since release and it's awesome. Grippy and responsive!
Have you tried it on Android yet? I'm interested in using Playstation Remote Play but I hate the touchscreen controls.
Any issues yet? Thank you!
Does it drift?
How's it held up?
Thank you for this great video!
I love the hell out of my SN30 pro 2
Bought the phone clip and it's AMAZING
The 8bitdo Gameboy edition SNES is really neat too for Mario Maker. Except that there's no ZL or ZR so I have to use another controller to activate the menu coming from the intro.
Edit: I have since found out that if you update the firmware of the 8bitdo Gameboy edition SNES controller you can press down and select I think to activate it in the Mario Maker main menu. That's what made me keep it. :)
I have the same problem so i want to buy this
@@Gunar-xe8fn I have since found out that if you update the firmware of the 8bitdo Gameboy edition SNES controller you can activate the menu in Mario Maker 2 with the triggers. Or if it was a Mario Maker 2 update. Not sure, but at least I can use mine now so! :D
Yeah, but what about a Backyard Sports Football and Baseball combo plug and play controller All-in-One?
Now I'll have my SN30pro wired as a back up the pdp for smash and the new sn30 for everything that controller looks amazing!
So I bought one of these for use with my Windows PC via bluetooth, and could not be more satisfied! I love how simple the software is, and it's very comfortable for someone with large hands. I have not used it with my switch, but I just might!
I compared the feel to my ps4 controller, and the Pro plus controller feels way better to me. I love this controller!
Ok thanks
The added battery life makes it tempting :P.
I always assumed it was pronounced 8Bit DOH - as in Ninten DO.
It is, this guy also says mare-io
It is pronounced doh
Love your videos, keep em comin
The removable battery is there because you can swap in AA's on the fly instead of waiting for the controller to charge
The macros would be so useful for mass releasing Pokémon!
The pro controllers are more difficult for my younger nephews to use, so these SN30 controllers would work a lot better for their smaller hands
Perfect timing. I was looking at getting the SN30+ pro or the older sn30 pro. My thoughts were I can 3d print grips for the regular sn 30 pro if I wanted to. But the plus having re-programmable buttons and all that makes me really want to go this route. I kinda wish they'd make a sn30 pro 2 so its the old form factor but with the new board.

"Or any other 2D game on the Switch that I might want to play like uuuh... Gunvolt"
Ah I see you're a man of culture as well
Thanks for the recommendation. Just ordered this. I feel I’m more accurate in 3D games with the joysticks located similarly to PS4 and I play a ton of 2D games so this controller seems perfect. Probably won’t dabble to much with the mapping but who knows? The feature is there. Thank you.
Might be worth playing around with on the pro 2. I imagine they will update it. And that controller has even more buttons.
Imma' add this to my Christmas wish list.
Woah. Thanks alot. Was looking for a cheaper pro controller alternative.
:3
I’d make the upgrade if they made a Super Famicom/European SNES color scheme variant.
They have that for some of the other controllers. Ironically I ordered the US SNES color variant and got the EU one. If you're searching for these, it's SFC30 rather than SN30. There's no SFC30 Pro+ right now, but there's an SFC30 and SFC30 Pro.
8bitdo was going to but couldn't as the design is trademarked and the SNES classic edition being made recently made it much more harder to release a controller in that style. Won't be coming out any time soon.
A controller with it's own software for PC?
Omg, pls yes!
I couldn't stop myself from staring at the perfect Mohawk you arm hair forms on your arms.
A year later and this one video persuaded me into buying this and im honestly beyond happy on my decision not only is it good but the controller actually came with grips since the plastic on the controller ends up getting worn and ends up slippery. Thank you a ton. To this day I have 6 of these and no switch pro controller 👌🏿
I will say that I love my 8bitdo sn30 pro controller, BUT be aware that their customer service is not the best. I had an issue with joystick drift when connecting to my Mac, and their solution via email was to not play on Mac. So yeah, excellent controller, but you’re on your own with any issues.

Hi. I had a similar issue with my wired SN30pro . I contacted the customer service team and they send me a firmware update and instructions to update the controller and after that it worked perfect. I don't know if this is useful for you after 9 months but either way good luck
I'm using a sn30 pro with a 3D printed grip. It works well enough
Where'd you get one?
8bitdo likes to rip off Nintendo controllers so much that they even did what the Wii did by making a controller without handles and then making another controller with handles and also with slightly different shoulder buttons. Though Nintendo removed analog with their revision and yes the Original Classic Controller had analog even if it was only two stage.

This isn't true, the Switch does register analogue trigger inputs, there's just no official Nintendo Switch controller that has analogue triggers and there are very few games that have the option to use them.
You can either use the SN30 Pro+ or Gamecube controllers with the adapter to play Trials Rising with analogue triggers.
@@J05TI Yeah, you're right, devs would have to implement support for other analog triggers themselves, which nobody seems to do, sadly. :-(
