With the Switch having been around for 5 years now, I'm surprised Nintendo hasn't released any revised Joy-Con. Not just for stick drift, but also grip comfort and analog triggers. Or retro-themed ones that fans were dreaming of early in its life.
They really are putting minimum effort into everything. The consoles UI to the content in the newer games like switch sports to their console colourways and designs. I hope they don't start to fall off because of this mindset...
8bitdo bonus: the Lite or Zero can act as a remote clicker on the laptop of a boring grown-up who makes PowerPoint presentations. Just need a button-mapping program to get extra value for those kinds of use cases.
I got my Split Pad Pro on your recommendation when it launched a few years ago, and it's still my favorite Switch accessory. The quality of your videos is superb as always!
At this point I'm convinced that the only way to get the controller I want is to make it myself. I think once I get my workshop setup at the new house, it'll be time to get going on that project.
The day someone makes a joycon without analog sticks but with all the other buttons is the day they will make ton of money. An old school joycon needs to be made.
I love my m30 so much. i rarely play fighing games but i love it for old 2d rpgs like final fantasys and dragon quests. It feels perfect in the hand and that dpad is perfect for menu based games.
I had bought both the split pad pro and compact, had to return the pro version it's way too big. But I love the compact, substantially bigger than joycons with a great d-pad all around comfortable. Left analog feels a little off on both but it's better on the compact. Using on the oled model, they don't have any wiggle whatsoever which is great.
Liked & subbed. I’ve been noticing as well that Nintendo switch does seem to have the most wide assortment of controllers. I’m glad you started with retro fighters because I’m looking to pick up a product from them soon and I see nothing but 100% positive feedback for everything they make 💫✊🏆 Time to share this on Facebook
I was really hoping that this video would cover more of the benbok style joycon controllers. I would love for nintendo or 8bitdo to make some pro style joycon controllers like the benbok.
No love for the Gulikit? I have my small gripes with it, but I'd love to see more visibility and talk about their hall effect joysticks. The controller shape is also straight copied from the XBox controller (one fits into their hard shell, though it won't close completely due to other reasons) like the MGC
on the 8bitdo Lite 2 it would a lot more pocketable if they had 3ds style circle, they would have to have the stick click buttons separately, but other then that it would be the ultimate pocket controller!
The brawler 64 has one big catch. the analog stick. For modern games, it's fine. But it's not made for modern games, it's made for n64 games. And the analog stick worked in a specific way where it gave more degrees of movement that retrofighters' sticks can't compare. Aiming in n64 games specifically is where it fails. People say aiming in the zelda games suck. With a modern stick they're right. But with the n64 controller in a good condition, it feels fine. Retrofighters should have tried to emulate its movement in someway instead of doing their own thing. Especially considering the stick registers a rectangle instead of an octogan
Kevin's videos feel like you're hanging out with a friend and he's casually telling you about Nintendo Switch controllers while having a couple beers and playing together. Love the vibe ✨✨
8bitdo is soon releasing a new wireless controller "Ultimate bluetooth" which also has Hall Effect joysticks! People need to realize that Hall effect joysticks are the cure for stick drift and controllers have been a scam for over 20 years!
8bitdo has the Ultimate line of corded Xbox controllers but later this month they're releasing wireless version for the Switch and I highly recommend them! Easily my favorite controller currently.
The 8bitdo light I would have assumed that it has pressure sesetive dpads like the PS2 did so you walk by pressing it lightly and run by pressing it hard.
I pre-ordered the hori split pad fit and am waiting for it to ship. That's the only thing I've ever pre-ordered. I have the 8bitdo with the dual d pads. It is great for 2d games like new super mario bros. I use the joycons most because I play in handheld.
they should make a hori split pad pro xl were they have proper grips because I don't like the grip of the hiri split pad pro because the grips aren't big enough
I bought a pair of Nyxi controllers with the same form factor as the Benbok, but the sticks gave out after I want to say about 100 hours of play; they're all wiggly and loose now. Does the other brand have this same issue?
An important thing that gets ignored is that there are two models of Brawler 64 controller - one that'll work on Switch (and others) and one that's only for N64. I made this mistake and want others to avoid. The frustrating thing is that only the N64 ones are available in the UK.
I’m not surprised at all that that switch plate controller is already sold out 😅 Yesterday it was the GC loader for the GameCube it seems anything really great for the money is getting scalped this year 2022 year of the scalpers 😅🤦♂️
I agree with these takes except one - I find the 8BitDo M30 uncomfortable to hold, and its d-pad membranes (though not BAD) feel less than tactile than is ideal. Alternatively, I would HIGHLY recommend the Retro-Bit Genesis and Saturn controllers - they’re officially licensed by SEGA and are 1-to-1 recreation of the originals. The Retro-Bit SEGA d-pads are an absolute game-changer when playing Genesis games, fighting games, beat-em-up’s, Sonic, Mega Man, or anything in need of precise digital inputs.
8BitDo definitely has better SNES d-pads than Retro-Bit tho. The best 3rd party SNES d-pads you can find are in 8BitDo controllers, specifically in the GameBoy color way. For whatever reason, they use better membranes in the GameBoy ones 🤷♂️
Current controller = a controller not optimized for either the analog stick or the dPad, causing you to shift your thumb/grip awkwardly to reach something that is not angled with the physical grip you're holding... ...Nintendo 64 trident controller = a controller perfectly designed to allow you to play analog stick games or dPad games simply by switching to a different grip, both directly aligned to their corresponding directional controller without having to angle your thumb. Amazes me the amount of lemmings that are psychologically pre-disposed to a "modern controller" solely for the fact of either never having used a Trident controller with perfectly aligned grips for each control type, or who have simply been using those xbox/ds controllers for so long they can't handle something even when it's optimized for the system.
I was going to get a $100 Fusion switch controller, but then I noticed it has the exact same ZR and ZL buttons that I hate. I played Splatoon 2 with a less expensive model and it just doesn’t feel good.
Pair these perfect controllers with a Switch OLED!! I have one that’s been sitting in my closet for about three months in pristine condition, and I want it to go to someone who cares. It comes with the original box and all the accessories in their plastics, a matching white traveling case, white thumb nubs, and two games! Reply to this comment if you’re interested. I really want someone to enjoy this console!
Do not buy the Bing bok controllers unless you're going to buy them off of Amazon because they will try to take your money and Rob you those controllers don't even last that long you're probably going to have to return them!

100% agree with you about the 8bitdo M30, it's my fighting game controller for Ultra SF2 and 2D platformer for Cuphead.
I think the Switch has the best selection of Third-Party controllers of all time.

Did the split pad pro ever get drift ? . im planning on getting a pair myself
@@the_stranger833 No drift on my hori's they have the best joysticks out of all controllers I've tried for the switch
Best analog sticks ever.
That 8bit do fight stick is sooo good. It’s not as good as my pro sticks. But to jump in on switch and get a few chill games in, it’s perfect.
Would of liked to see 8bitdo use circle pads (like you would see on a 3ds for example) on the lite 2 controller.
I agree, I feel like those circle pads have a lot of potential in this example, it's a shame to see them ignored like this.
@@thevgmlover yea great for compactness and portability
L3 and R3 would be hard to do with circle pads though

The Power A Nano doesnt get enough love. Its by far my favorite to use. The D pad takes a lil bit to work in, but the size is perfect for on the go.
The switch plate feels just like the PowerA Nano Enhanced controller just with rumble. Solid controller and feels great in hand.

Great run-through of some cool controllers 👍🏻

Defo prefer the Hori over the Binbok; I have both and the Hori's thumbsticks are a lot smoother and more precise.

I really would've loved the 8bitdo lite 2 to use 3DS style circle pads instead of regular control sticks.
This would've been amazing. I really want a portable stick controller.
Skull & Co joy grip is all I really need. Plus it loses nothing since it's using original joycons
