8BitDo is releasing a controller which uses Gulikit's Sticks next week for $70 as well. Better deal IMO if you live somewhere where the King Kong Pro 2 is also $70. It has 2 rear paddles, a 2.4GHz dongle (as well as bluetooth) and a charging dock. You have to specifically buy the one which is for Switch and Windows though, they are releasing Windows only and wired only versions as well, but those use normal sticks.

For the GK KK3 they should have a stick / dpad arrangement you can flip around, and have different USB-attached radios you can attch so instead of shoehorning compatibility for almost everything inside of the controller body, they can have the external radio permit for different firmware to use with other consoles.
If they go that approach, they could either have the radio sticking out of the controller, or to make it look _sleek_ they can have it stuck inside with a switch-style lever to disconnect and protrude the radio for ease of replacement, and tinkerers will definitely find other uses for them.
Future replacement face button caps should either be magnetic, or barring that go full techie and use monochromatic e-ink displays. All of these changes would probably bump the cost up to $140 but remember, you're buying this _for life._ There's no reason why not to shoot for the moon and create the ultimate controller.

A thing to keep in mind is their Quality Control. I bought this controller and I had severe input lags even in wired mode. I had to return it twice (they sent another one with the same issue but still very noticeable input lag) before receiving a non-defective one. And the input lags I experienced wasn't just milliseconds of delay, it was seconds to the point I could see the input was stuck in one direction while I was testing on gamepad-tester. Other than that, it's definitely a worth buy with such a cheap price but subjectively good to play with.
Edit : On top of the issue I had, there's also some complaints at my local shopping platform where some users experienced some issues on the buttons where they would be hard to press and/or stuck, as well as the analog stick having some form of friction (which they shouldn't, they're supposed to be very smooth). These issues could be from the molding injection defects where there's excess plastic on the parts, another RUclipsr have made note of this when they disassembled it ( Link : ruclips.net/video/SLepubiTsEc/видео.html ).

Most of it is easily fixable with some sanding (the controller is one of the easier that I've opened too). My issue is that the mechanical buttons themselves are similar to mechanical keyboard switches but nowhere as high-quality; the 'clickiness' comes from two plastic fins grinding against two plastic tabs inside and this design gives it a weird amount of resistance that some players might find awkward and even 'sticky'.
For people who find that the buttons are hard to press down and/or are sticky, I highly recommend giving them the same treatment as you'd give mechanical keyboard switches: open them up and lubricate the insides. They then turn into some of the best buttons I've ever tested.

The latter is an inherent issue with how computers handle decimal points, and we've been so unable to solve it that no programmer in their right mind should allow floating point numbers into financial programs. There are workarounds, sometimes. In the case of graphical functions, many calculations involve these slightly inaccurate numbers. Nobody cares if the model is a pixel off in a frame or two. It's definitely a case of "good enough," and some things run faster with less accurate numbers.
My personal experience is pretty damning. I was making a program and defined a variable as 2.0. I then hovered over it in the code editor, and the tooltip told me it was 2.0004. What. Imagine that, but then you throw cosmic bit flips into the equation. There's a solution for that too, but Intel decided a long time ago that shouldn't be a general consumer feature.
In short, the average home PC is likely not perfectly accurate. Engineers pay extra for more stable hardware, but even then the program has to be designed a little different for maximum accuracy.

There are some flight stick controllers by many manufacturers that also uses them, but weirdly enough, that’s a trend manufacturers sadly walked away from, probably for cost savings. In all of them, after everything else falls apart; the accuracy/precision of the hall sensor (after more than 10 years of continue using) is still as good as the day I brought them. I'm pretty sure drift wouldn't be a thing if they had slightly better quality joysticks. though obviously hall effect and optical switches are still the best in terms of reliability.
a great way to get rid of mechanical drift is to have a small spring detent in the middle, avoiding the joystick from wandering around.
though the problem would also be solved by having easily replaceable joysticks. use inserts and machine thread screws, and have the joysticks on a secondary pcb. don't tell me the extra 2 bucks can't be put in a fucking 70 bucks gamepad.

@@dillonmarius306 Sure! Where would you use it? On your switch, mobile, or PC? Because I own both Gulikit Kingkong 2 pro and 8bitdo Ultimate BT variant (not to be confused with the 8bitdo Ultimate NON BT variant, with only 2.4ghz connectivity), and I mainly use them on my PC.
      - If you want a charging dock: go for the 8bitdo ultimate. Regardless of variant (BT or 2.4ghz), they offer charging dock which is neat because it also stores the 2.4ghz dongle you use to connect to PC.
The Gulikit also have one but is a separate purchase, and the design does not compare to 8bitdo's charging dock which also act as its stand.
      - Both controller (KK2 pro and Ultimate BT) have hall sticks sensor. Beware of the BT ultimate non BT variant as it only have the potentiometer joystick.
-Both joystick have 0 deadzones mode but needs to be turned on. The 8bitdo has its own software, which I will mention later. While the Gulikit can be turned on with a combination of button. Between the two, i feel like the 8bitdo is much more accurate that Gulikit. But maybe it's only because of:
-Latency issues. While on PC, i connect the 8bitdo via 2.4ghz. While the Gulikit is only via BT connection. I feel a little latency on Gulikit, and is also a known issue already on internet by most user. I dont have any latency issues on the 8bitdo one. My Gulikit often disconnects and also worsens input lag if you're a few meter away from the PC.
-Customizable: The 8bitdo ultimate has its own "ultimate software" that you can use to set your button bindings, macro, deadzones, etc. While the Gulikit ones only have a set of button combos/instruction on how to set a certain action (Example: setting no deadzone mode is 'gearbutton' + 'minus' button).
      - Android compatibility: I dont own a switch so I can only judge the two on PC and mobile android. I cannot connect the 8bitdo Ultimate BT on my mobile phone and it is a known issue. Even though connecting it via 2.4ghz or BT, no luck. My phone can pair it via BT but does not register any inputs. While the Gulikit works flawlessly on my android phone. Tried it on deadcells and call of duty mobile.
      - Feel while holding: I prefer holding the Gulikit. Its shape and looks looks similar to Xbox' controllers and feels better when held than 8bitdo. Maybe because of 8bitdo's shape which is a more straight on its side.
-Buttons and trigger: Buttons, i prefer the 8bitdo. My Gulikit already have a sticky 'A' button only on 2 months of use. And my 8bitdo is much older with 5 months of use already. Meanwhile on trigger and shoulder: I prefer the Gulikit one. Its trigger is easier to trigger because it has a less travel time to be 100%. Also the RB/LB buttons have a clickier sounds. While on the 8bitdo, the triggers need more push to be 100% input.
This is my take on the both controllers. I love them both because they are my first premium controller coming from fake xbox 360 controller which only cost around 7$.
Tell me if you have any more specific questions between the two and i will glady answer you. I hope I can help you decide on which one you should get.

Couple of notes though, when I first opened mine I got a very small fiber of plastic stuck in my finger, from the carry case.
The sticks are very light to use, as are the triggers. If you're used to a xbox or ps controller you will push them too far to start with.
I also had to take it apart and shave a small piece of plastic off of one of the joysticks because on the inside it was rubbing against something inside, stopping me from being able to move forward fully - it was very easy to do and maybe took 10 mins tops, but that was also trying to find out what was wrong (I've since seen this is the case for a couple of other people online too).

the ps3 controller also used hall effect sticks. also stick drift is usually because the tension in the metal that contacts the carbon track is weak and has an intermittent connection, then the controller oversamples the readings from the sticks to smooth and get more resolution , the drift is because of the oversample with intermittent connection. after changing many metal cans and many pots to the side with matching resistance to the original all ended with varying results that needed further adjustment, the best method to fix drift is to take apart the sensor and slightly bend and add back that tension. i have not had stick drift over 2 years after doing that, before i was soldering every few months, oh yea, you dont even need an iron to fix the drift, just small screwdriver to pry the pot away from the stick and take out the disc and bend it, put it all back and no more stick drift. i think the factory set a tension balance between track wear and contact pressure which seam to loose its pressure after a few drops or bangs.

I wish we could get more controllers with the overall shape of the PS1/2/3 controller. Those controllers felts so nice to hold as the two part sticking out were short and relatively thin. On Xbox style controllers, which all current controllers are that part is to thick so the part of the palm where your thumb attaches always has pressure up against it which doesn't feel as nice.

I was always dissatisfied that joystick have been almost identical the last several generations.
One small detail that always bugged me is how the opening for the joystick never has a better/smoother bevel and your joystick always ends up with a very sharp line indentation after some time

I love my KingKong 2 Pro controller. It is the only controller I use with my Switch since I got it. I even use it on my PC quite often. If only it had and back buttons. Good thing there is the new 8bitdo controller coming out soon with those and it uses GuliKit's Hall Effect joysticks, at least in the higher end model.

@@olewornhat It will only support Bluetooth with the Switch. PC connectivity will be a 2.4ghz receiver, and it will not be compatible with Android. Which really kinda sucks because I would much love to have it work with my PC and Android phone via Bluetooth.

The thumb stick tech is 20years old, but cost more than potentiometers that MS uses in the included controllers. Older consoles used magnetic analogs and that's why they still work today without the drift

  • @nathanhottel5910
    @nathanhottel5910 Год назад

fun fact it does get drift and it gets it hard. but to be fair i had the controller for a long time. i had to trow it away because i couldnt walk forward. i figured its something to do with the magnets somehow breaking. whats weird is it wasnt even from somthing like dropping the controller. it was fine one moment and then it broke. other than that its a great controller and i would highly recommend.
edit: i tried to contact support but i dont think they have an email or a number. all i see is faq and manuals for the controller.

The bumpers on controllers that I use are consistently the first part to go out. I would love to see some LTT Labs reliability testing for controllers to put manufacturer's claims to the test!

    • @BuzzaB77
      @BuzzaB77 Год назад +2

me too. I play Rocket league at a high level and my bumpers get a work out. The broke on this controller after 45 days. they didn't offer refunds, and on support email actually told me i could take a microswitch from an xbox controller if i wanted to fix it!
Until i left them a bad review, then I got a replacement but after thorough testing in rocket league the controller still isn't good enough at high level. sticks are good but the rest is garbage. buttons stick, bumpers are mush, and triggers have half the travel of the xbox official. just too hard to control in high level competitive matches, probably fine for everything else. the only bumpers that haven't broke on me have been xbox series official controllers.

@@BuzzaB77 Oh, this is great feedback. I play Rocket League at a GC2 level and I have gone through too many controllers because of bad bumpers or face buttons. I have already ordered this controller and I plan to try it out. I will likely return it if it doesn't work for me. Good to know that the official Xbox Series controllers are working good for you. It feels like no other esport wears on a controller like Rocket League does.
