    Anybody looking for an easier and more effective way to clean your unit? Instead of dismantling the unit just turn off hot and cold, hook up a 5 gallon jug filled with the cleaning solution (I used 1 tbsp bleach per gallon of tap water) and let it run like normal for about 10 minutes. Then let water flow through both the cold and room temp spigots until the jug is empty. Do the same thing again with a jug filled with tap water without cleaning solution to rinse the machine. I followed this video and while I’m grateful to now have the knowledge on how to dismantle my dispenser, this method didn’t clean it as thoroughly as I would’ve liked, plus it was somewhat of a hassle for a procedure that should be done several times a year. If this method was more effective I’d reconsider it but the real problem is that pouring the solution into the tank directly doesn’t clean every part of it. My room temperature water still tasted complete musty when finished cleaning, even though cold water seemingly improved. Just my two cents on the matter, either way I wouldn’t have had the confidence to do any sort of cleaning/dismantling if it weren’t for this video so thanks a bunch 👍🏻

    • @ThatHobby
      @ThatHobby  Год назад +7

      Thanks for the detailed comment. I am glad the video helped. I like the idea of running the solution through the 5 gallon jug. That would clean out the inlet lines. So yeah I was thinking of trying that too. I was just going by what the directions said to do. Some people have issues with hard water build up in the lines and nozzles. So I would still recommend using filtered water for the cleaning and rinsing process.

      Is it possible that manufacturers don't trust customers to use bleach in case they poison themselves. You know how it goes: legal said don't mention bleach. My earlier water dispensers had bleach as part of the procedure for sanitizing. However, the earlier dispensers did not have ozonating self-clean built-in.

    Thanks for the visual instructions. I never knew these needed to be cleaned periodically. I had to remove the top of my A4 since no water was coming out. • @ThatHobby
      @ThatHobby  Год назад +1

      Wow that's crazy that it's frozen. It must be pretty cold there. Yeah they say to clean it out every six months but I really think it depends on how filtered the water is. If the water has a lot of minerals in it they can clog up the spouts and some residue can build up in the tank walls too.

      Yeah I was thinking the same thing. I was kind of expecting something funky in there too but I looked great. They have some pretty big water filters at the water store that we go to. So the quality of the filtered water probably has something to do with it. If there are some minerals in the water they could build up and cause some issues. I am not sure if the vinegar will fix the low pressure. There could be some mineral build up. Check the tip of the water dispenser too. There could be a little bit of a build up in the water dispenser tip. Let me know how it all works out.

    Thanks so much for the excellent video. Unfortunately this is a make work project that most people won’t bother to undertake. Top mount bottle coolers are so much easier for the maintenance! If you inspect and don’t see any green then your cooler is probably okay. Using reverse osmosis water is almost as good as distilled. I might also hook up the RO bottle sooner for flushing and waste a little good water. I would use hydrogen peroxide mixture vs vinegar to avoid the vinegar taste. I will probably do this once a year eliminating the possibility of breaking something during the cleaning process. Cheers

    A lot of other videos I have seen use the "straw" to suck the water up instead of dumping water in the top. Is there a reason to not do that? It seems like a good idea to get it clean as well.

    • @ThatHobby
      @ThatHobby  5 месяцев назад +2

      I just went by the instruction manual. For cleaning and rinsing the tank Avalon recommends pouring 0.6 gallons of water into the cold tank and then draining it. I haven't tried the other method but I think you will need to close the lid and turn the power back on to use the straw to suck water up into the tank. Then you will need to turn off the power and open the lid to drain the tank. So I think the Avalon recommended instructions are designed to be more efficient. You don't have to open and close the lid as much with their instructions. I also think it has to do with protecting the pump. If you go with the other method just make sure you don't run the pump dry or you could damage it. But I think the main reason that Avalon recommend this method is so that people will open the tank and inspect it. So yeah most people will just put a cleaning solution in a water jug and never open up the tank to inspect and clean it. A combination of both techniques might be the way to go. Let me know what you end up doing and how it works out.

    • @ThatHobby
      @ThatHobby  10 месяцев назад

      I haven't had an issue like that with our water cooler. So I am just kind of guessing here. But there are a few things you could try. I think there is some freon in there and if the unit was on it's side it may need to sit upright for a few hours for it to settle. The next thing people say to do is to add cold water or ice if possible to get the cooling process restarted. It could be the cold water switch on the back. There is a green cold button and an orange hot button. Check that and make sure it is on and working properly. Next it could be the water line. You could inspect it to see how it looks. You could also try to switch it with the cool water line to see if it works properly. Finally it could be the cooling element. So if you want to try and fix it you can inspect each of the different areas and see if you can isolate the failed part and replace it. Let me know what you decide to do and if you can isolate the problem? You could also try and contact Avalon customer service. They may be able to help you fix it or recommend a service center.

    This was great thank you, but one thing I noticed is this process wont clean out the suction line, bottle straw, or the inside of the pump. You would have to draw up through the bottle straw, this will require more rinse cycles however.

    • @ThatHobby
      @ThatHobby  Год назад +1

      Yeah I noticed that too. I just read the directions and did the recommended cleaning. I think the concern is that you don't want to run the pump dry because that could damage the pump. I think putting the cleaning solution in a bottle would be a great way to clean lines just don't run the pump dry and it should be fine.

      You could try to let the cleaning solution sit in the lines for a few days or even a week. You could also drain the cooler and let it dry out inside first. Good morning, I have the filtered model that uses 2 filters. The filters are supposed to last 6 months but so far they only lasted 3 months the first time & only 2 months.
    Any ideas or info?
    Thanks in advance

    • @ThatHobby
      @ThatHobby  Год назад +1

      I don't have the filtered version but I do have some other products with water filters. From my understanding the harder your water is the quicker the filters will clog up. You could try to add a more economical prefilter to your water cooler to get more life out of your water coolers filters.

    Is there a video to fix the heater and cooler on the Avalon A5? My Avalon A5 no longer cools or heats our water anymore. Granted, the water cooler is about a year and a half old and I've never cleaned or changed the filters, but I doubt that's the reason why our water cooler is no longer heating or cooling our water anymore. I don't know, I could be wrong. Will this cleaning tutorial fix our heating and cooling issue? Or is there a more serious problem? Can anyone please help? Thanks

    • @ThatHobby
      @ThatHobby  8 месяцев назад

      This unit doesn't have filters it is the older model A4. I have had it since 2020 and I have not had an issue with the heating heater or the cooler components. So I haven't made any videos about them. I would check the users manual or contact Avalon customer support to check and see if changing the filters will fix it. That is probably the issue but I don't have that model so I am not 100% sure.

      This unit doesn't have a filter. So the red flashing light just means it is out of water. But if you have the model with the water filters it may mean you need to change them.

      I haven't had that issue before. I would try to defrost it by unplugging it. The thermostat may have gone bed. Put a towel or a rug down when you defrost it just incase it makes a little bit of a mess. Defrosting it may fix the problem but if it that doesn't work it will probably need a new thermostat.

      If you use filtered water you wont have to clean the unit as much. But if the water has a lot of minerals in it you will have to clean the unit more often. I like to use vinegar for the cleaning solution. You can use more vinegar and let it soak longer. If that doesn't work you may have to use the recommended Avalon cleaning solution.

    • @ThatHobby
      @ThatHobby  Год назад

      I haven't had that problem. If your unit is new it could be a manufacture defect. If it is an older unit the cooling mechanism could be malfunctioning. What happens when you use the room temperature water dispenser? Does hot water come out of all three dispensers?

      Try turning on the water spots to see if any water comes out of the front.

    • @ThatHobby
      @ThatHobby  7 месяцев назад

      You may need to put the lid back on and plug it in to get the pump to run the rest of the solution out of the front water spouts. The drain plug doesn't seem to get all of the water out of the tank. That's a good thing though. Because the solution will help clean the hoses and front nozzles as you run the rest of it out of there.

    I used the chemicals you pay Avalon for and drained the dispenser so many times. It does ent matter how much I train or use the water spouts. The water has dangerous levels of chemicals. I thought maybe the water was bad and got extremely low levels when pouring it directly from the jug

    • @ThatHobby
      @ThatHobby  11 месяцев назад

      That's a good idea to test the water. I haven't tried that. I will have to look at some different test kits. I have just been going by taste. That's probably not the most scientific method.

    How come you can't put the vinegar water in a clean container and put the pump tube in and draw it up into the works? And why take the plug on the back when you can remove the water through the faucets?

    • @ThatHobby
      @ThatHobby  2 года назад +3

      I was just following the Avalon cleaning instructions from there manual. I think the purpose of opening it up is to inspect the insides of the water cooler. That way you can decide if you need to wipe it out or not. I also think that taking the plug on the back off empties the container safely. If you run the cooler dry to empty it there is a possibility that you can damage the pump.

      Some people have said that they have had trouble draining it. There could be a clog in the drain line or you may just need to tip the unit backwards to help it drain. If that doesn't work you can use a small cup to get out as much water as you can and then run clean water through the front water spouts of the unit to finish cleaning it.

    My Avalon water cooler dispenser was cool until it stopped working properly. I contacted Avalon and all they done was send me repair videos as if I’m a repairman and because the year warranty has expired (August 2023 and my problems begun in September 2023) they only offered me a 25% discount on buying another dispenser as if I was going to spend my hard earned money on another faulty dispenser. My warning, Avalon products are good when they are working but beware when they have issues, Avalon expects you to become a repairman and if the warranty is out you are getting screwed.

    Good thing I read the instructions because this video is incorrect. It says you're supposed to be mixing 4L of water with the "cleaning solution crystals" (so if you're using vinegar instead of the cleaning crystals, this means 2L of water and 2L of vinegar). The 0.6gallon figure is just to RINSE and drain with fresh water, not to CLEAN it with the vinegar.

    • @ThatHobby
      @ThatHobby  5 дней назад

      Make sure you completely drain it if you are going to put that much water in the tank. If you aren't able to drain it all the way you may have to clean it twice to get all of the solution in there. If you clean it regularly it shouldn't be that bad and a rinse with some vinegar should be fine. But if it is pretty bad you may need to clean it a few times to get everything out of there.

    • @ThatHobby
      @ThatHobby  28 дней назад +1

      It's not a deal breaker. Just turn off the power on the back of the water cooler. The main concern is that the pump may come on and if it runs dry the pump could get damaged. You are not doing any electrical work you are just cleaning the water tank. It's always a good idea to turn off the power when you work on an appliance though. So unplug it if you can.
