This is an excellent video! Couldn't have cleaned my unit without it! However, I'm disappointed with my Avalon water cooler in general. The water itself tastes great, but it makes cloudy iced tea. Adding this difficult cleaning process to cloudy iced tea, expensive filters, and the cost of having it plumbed in, I wish I had just stuck with my Pur pitcher. It makes beautiful, clear iced tea!
For bottom-loading dispensers, can we just put the bucket of cleaning solution down where the bottle of water would go, stick the straw in, close the door and let the unit fill itself up? That would pull the cleaning solution through the straw, to clean it as well, and we can avoid taking the top of the unit apart? Repeat 3 times with clean water to rinse? Also, what is the scrubbing sponge used for??
It would be helpful to do a video on cleaning the metal insert for those of us who have bottom loading coolers. Essentially it’s like having a straw and there could possibly be mineral buildup in there as well.
Thank you for your comment. I have forwarded this information to our product specialist team. Please email support@avalonh2o.com if you have any questions.
I’m concerned about the internal straw that sucks up the water (potential mold and mineral build up). How do I properly clean this straw? Should I have have it suck up a source of water with a citrus acid solution (similar to internal tank) and then run with clean water several times?
How do you clean the inside of the spouts? I noticed grime inside of them. Why doesn’t the kit come with a brush? I have to clean my “self-cleaning” unit after just 3 months because the water tastes like soil/dirt. The guide says I’m supposed to clean every 6 months but I have to clean now because of the water taste.
How do we get it to dispense quicker? Over time, it slows way down. The only videos I've seen they stick something in the spout like a toothpick. Is there anything better than a method like that?
I just cleaned my A8CTBottleless and the silicone ring on the water reservoir cover and the mold on it cannot be scrubbed out. How can I get a replacement silicone ring? Thanks.
So after all that you do nothing for the intake side of the system? I’m going to pickup my cleaning solution from a bucket to run the cleaning solution through the intake side🤷🏻♂️
In a pinch, would using boiling water (Or very close to boiling) solve at least some of the cleaning required? As a temporary clean Also would it damage anything? Covid is making it difficult to get cleaning supplies
Thank you for your comment. This is the internal cleaning instructions for the A3 model. Follow the instructional steps in this video once every 6 months. If you have any questions, please reach out to our support team at support@avalonh2o.com
I just cleaned my water cooler yesterday, and I rinsed it twice thoroughly. I then replaced the water with my 5 gallon bottle. And the water tastes horrible, it was so bitter my dogs wouldn't even drink it. So now I have to waste a whole 5 gallon water bottle and rinse again. This never happened with the other cleaning solution I purchased from Amazon. I got this one from home Depot. I don't think I will purchase this product again

I buy a new water cooler every 2-3 years and I can tell by the internals that it doesn't matter if you buy Primo, Avalon, Brio, igloo these are all made by the same company with slighly different external modification displays. They are ALL junk. My advice is to buy the low dollar one and just plan on replacing every 2-3 years. As far as cleaning, I never do it. Our family goes through 4-5 5 gallon Kentwood water jugs per month. Water is constitantly flowing from all dispensors. No one has ever got sick. Once you break into the internals you are asking for trouble. What I do though is disnfect the plastic or metal tube that goes into the 5 gallon jug at every jug change. Not telling people what to do as far as cleaning but just telling you from experience as numerous owner of these units. Anyone else want to verify this statement who has owned many of these?
Do not buy this. Best case you’re cleaning this every three months and has a slight smell. The smell is like a musty smell even after performing the self cleaning ozone. Worst case, it smells musty that you do not want to drink it. If you don’t trust your water source, does it matter what steps are necessary to clean it?
We had one of these water dispensers. Two weeks in the water taste changed horribly. I tasted like pool water. Avalon sent us a cleaning kit, which is not nearly as detailed as this video. Here I am opening this machine and not sure how to remove the separator in the tank (the instructions don't explain that it is threaded on). Horrible. This is the second Avalon unit that has failed and it will be the last. Please don't buy from these guys, there are so many other companies making coolers that don't have this reputation!
This was a nightmare I ended up with water all over me and my model of water cooler is not even a year old and this helped me with absolutely 0. Wish I never bought this thing.
This nightmare comes with any watercooler product you buy, if you follow the maintenance recommendations like you should.. Basic cleaning needs to be done every 6 months, intense cleaning like this probably every year. It's a fact of life, if you want modern convenience at home. If you don't, go back to jug water and buy a kettle for hot water.
This is WAAAAY too much work. Y'all need to simplify this for the customer. Like a button that will auto drain and feed crystals from a little chute. The customer should NOT have to take anything apart.
1. Great video. Explains some stuff that wasn't in the instructions. 2. Ads playing during the video? Really?? Sort of nickel-and-dimeing customers... 3. Watch out for the drain outlet, the water can shoot a few feet out of that when the tank is full! I just scalded my leg a tiny bit with hot water. Too bad I didn't watch this video first! You can see in this video that the draining water overshoots her bucket, too... 4. Happy with my Avalon water dispenser, anyway...

How do you get rid of the plastic taste when setting the unit up for the first time? The water tastes terrible and we can not drink it.
What is the scrub sponge in the cleaning kit for? The inner reservoir doesn't need to be scrubbed? Just sit with the citric acid crystal mixture?
How often are we supposed to do this? I may look for a different cooler that is truly self cleaning, this is a lot!!

Oh goodness is there an easier way, so many steps
This is how you make sure the bacteria n gunk is removed. You don’t want mildew water or citric acid crystals 😂

Junk it. It's a welded unit. Cannot replace the thermistor independently.
Throw it away as it will start malfunctioning quite quickly at this point.@@MortalHuman
Mine is doing the same. Im wondering if unplugging it overnight once or twice a month would help? At least it would allow it to defrost?
What if the empty bottle indicator is not sensing that the water bottle is empty?
