Don't hate idiots, hate the people who put them in positions where they can do great harm, hopefully no one will put a demented person near to nuclear codes...
That's one of the dumbest plot ever, even if it has real life inspiration. He's supposed to be a scientist, seeing that everyone is dying wherever he goes should have been the Red flag, "why is everyone dying but I'm fine". Next, since the military and everyone already know he is the culprit, they could have made a way to inform him about it through speakers or some other methods, if he knew it, seeing that he is not a mass murderer in his core (they know this because they saw him confused and asking for help multiple times) he would comply 100% if he knows what's happening.
Rather than questioning how a bio-weapon pill was left out this carelessly and how stupid the main character is I am more frustrated on how they tried to stop him. They could have literally made a road block for him or seal the tunnel instead of doing that stupid shit
Or they could’ve, idk, just shot the road IN FRONT OF HIM?? Like I understand if they can’t directly shoot him but their targeting systems should at least be able to destroy the road in front of him preventing him from moving forward to Tokyo

the pill is a weapon that works like magic basically with sweat being toxic it would also make sense as a weapon that the pill also mess with the guys brain making him go to where humans are and ignoring everything too meet people
The pill had to be magic or something with that kind of logic. How would it stop a tank, outside of the range, bullet from missing him or his path? Then there is the point that the guy is a scientist and would come up with the conclusion that he is the cause of it. His mother even says to stay away from people, but keeps going towards people. It sounds to me like this whole film is a fever dream. Dude gets a flu shot, winds up delirious with fever, takes some experimental medicine, passes out, and has a dream (not a nightmare, despite all the death) of him trying to deliver a briefcase. Firstly, if the military was trying to stop him, they would first blast the road ahead of him, not fire at or behind him (to start with at least). Second, even an exhausted workaholic Japanese salaryman would figure out something was up when the JSDF started trying to kill him. Third, he somehow manages to put on a high-tech spacesuit alone, and use it effectively. Somehow, his 'stink bomb' was able to kill the Americans in the suits with their protection up, but it never leaks out while he's wearing it until he turned off the protection. He's clearly dreaming. Besides the fever, it could also be that he's overdosed on medicine. He's been taking his company's OTC medicine, he's got a prescription from the doctor (no mention if he had it filled and is currently taking it), and he took some of the experimental medicine. Mixing medicine is generally a no-no unless your doctor gives the ok, since they sometimes interact with each other in dangerous ways. He's most likely still unconscious in the reception or in the hospital as they wait for the drugs to leave his system.

@@Spiralblitzful I watched Original, Movie and Remake. To watch Movie and Remake, we must completely wipe our memories of Original series, where Shinji mentally grew up and accepted things. eg. We hate adulthood due to restriction of freedom...but we feel insecure if there is full freedom; During rainy days good things still happen; Deal with things rather than run away.
For Movie and Remake, the story retcon Shinji to be spoilt, stubborn, selfish teenager-child who refuse to face reality or grow up.
Shinji is avatar of Hideaki Anno. The fame and fatigue (20 years passed he still forced to work on Eva, for money I guess) got him. When he inserted the theme from Wakusei Daisenso in Remake, I knew he had lost his marbles. In Original Eva, every scene has a message. Now he just make things randomly, eg. placed something from 70s just to spike his current audience.
