Not to mention perfectly capturing the boredom followed by sudden terror and inability to respond to the random deaths. People just died with little warning and usually you couldn't find who did it, they were long gone.
Good to see something from the perspective of our other NATO allies. Too many stories from non-English-speaking nations don't get out thanks to biases, and the French story is deserving of being told like any other.
That scene where the camera guy takes a sniper round to the side of his head is immaculately rendered here. Both the shock and realism of the moment are perfect; I've seen people get shot like that and it's exactly as quick and striking as they show here. Props to the animators for expertly capturing that moment and the stillness and sometimes helplessness you feel once a firefight is over and you can't kill the enemy because he is nowhere to be seen.
"In war, many soldiers don't really want to win, but to go home in one piece so they can hug their family" It is terrifying how death does not warn and simply arrives to snatch what we most desire
You know that reminds me of how when I was in school we'd get these army recruiters visit who would say stuff like "yeah, the army is a great career, you'll get to see the world, make new friends, the army will give you food to eat, clothes to wear, a bed to sleep in" while completely ignoring stuff like "watch you're closest friends die right in front of you".
Especially the afagan and Iraq war, seeing how both were simply done to make money and further the interests of the United States. To think that all this happens cause the fat cats funding Washington and Congress just wanted to increase quarterly profits.
How am I more connected to 5 French soldiers then then any character Disney and Netflix is spitting out, honestly be down to see a show bout these guys

Adrenaline. You don't think, you just repeat your training. When you have enough room to breath that's when you realize what went down. Ending scene shows this, they're trying to act like nothing happened but the scene is replaying non stop in their head.

It's an amazing film, and is a very strong lesson about complacency in a combat theater. While people are people, and need to relax every once in a while, a combat zone is no place to do so. I think this is one of the most realistic videos about war. War is often 80% boredom and 20% fighting for your life. Not a good combination for every human being.Because the 80% boredom can lead to your death in the 20%. And even when you prepare perfectly. You or your friend still can die in the 20%. The art truly captures parts of Afghanistan both in the south and north along the mountain ranges along with the gorgeous sunsets from all the dust in the air.
Yea, french are cool.
Was wondering what nation they were because some countries have the same language, those guys could have easily been Belgium troops with French gear.
@@comentnine1574 What? The beligans were in Afghanistan? I thought it was just Canada, France and UK with the US.

Wow! You managed to portray the shock and disbelieve of his buddy getting killed and the snapping back to training and instinct so well!! incredible
May I ask for a story as to what happened when you see someone shot like that?
"In war, many soldiers don't really want to win, but to go home in one piece so they can hug their family"
It is terrifying how death does not warn and simply arrives to snatch what we most desire

Excellent work of capturing the fatigue, pain and loss of war.
Common theme of chronic boredom during these deployments interlaced with sudden violence that troops feel helpless against
At 2:59 the gun can be heard before the bullet hits, meaning they are closer than they think. Either they were meant to do this or they missed something. otherwise this is a great short film.
They missed something. The taliban don't use subsonic ammunition, so the bullet always hits before the sound of the gun.
I need this be a full-fledged series following the pre-deployment, character buildup, deployment, then the struggle of returning to normal life without your brothers. I need this....
honestly thats insane, didnt cry our for their friend, checked what direction it came from and everyone instantly lit that direction up
Adrenaline. You don't think, you just repeat your training. When you have enough room to breath that's when you realize what went down. Ending scene shows this, they're trying to act like nothing happened but the scene is replaying non stop in their head.
French sounds so cool, I could rewatch this 100 times just to listen.
I was distracted for a whole 2 seconds because of a message on my phone, and just as i was half paying attention to what they were talking about, i heard the crack of the gunshot. When the bullet hit the solider, it caught me with genuine shock, i can only imagine how horrible this same exact feeling is when it happens in real life to a friend you have been stationed with.

It's an amazing film, and is a very strong lesson about complacency in a combat theater. While people are people, and need to relax every once in a while, a combat zone is no place to do so. You can be assaulted from ANY location, at ANY distance, at ANY time and the attitude earlier at 1:01 is just begging your adversary to ambush you, seen later in the film. Situational awareness saves lives, and while it's not possible to do it 100% of the time, you better damn try as more lives than yours may depend on your quick thinking and eagle eyes.

As an American it's east to forget the other nations involved in the Middle East. Not too often do you get to see the fighting from the French or British perspective.
Americans are dumb, the rest tried to keep their exposure minimum to the outside cause of the shit they did there, they even erased shitton of documents when they lost the war in afghanistan that showed the kind of horror and terror their solders inflicted on the afghan population including children and women meanwhile the CIA bragged about the shit they were doing
We had a heck of lot more nationalities there than just French and British bro. Easy to forget that too huh?
i think it may be because there isnt a lot of media about it. at least i dont see much nam stuff from france or english talk about it

I think this is one of the most realistic videos about war. War is often 80% boredom and 20% fighting for your life. Not a good combination for every human being.Because the 80% boredom can lead to your death in the 20%. And even when you prepare perfectly. You or your friend still can die in the 20%. (Or you are fighting in a war like the ukraine. Where your fighting time will be like 80%. And the chance to die is like 120%)
