    The good thing over the US is that a full spec S price is very close to M base model which makes this a no brainer decision. The diff to the competition model is still $5K which quite large diff. I chose the base since I like the white color better, and I was worried about the rigidity of the carbon wheels on public roads.

    I have bought this , downgraded from Ducati v4s. Not a swap, but almost.
    What you said is correct, 150mph is harder than 180 on a fared bike, and i am not wanting to do it very often. On track of course.
    This is great handling machine, so you don't get left on corners. Just straights that are long. I do miss the Duc, but am now, at over 50, enjoying the bmw competition as easier to ride at sensible speeds and I use it much more.

    @teej710 Год назад +5

    Sorry, i have to disagree with many of your points in the review. I currently own a base model M1000R and have also had the pleasure of a S1000R sport. For the extra money of a M, compared to the current price of a S sport, you get a better torquier engine, the brakes are better, fully adjustable suspension (manual), better rider aids, a more slick quick shifter, lighter forged wheels plus a few cosmetic changes. In my opinion the M seat is harder, the riding position is slightly more prone and the stiffer suspension is unforgiving, making a long journey uncomfortable. Also, the M vibrates more than the S. But, the M has a far more usable spread of power. which is a massive plus. It stops as well as it goes and there's always the M bragging rights. I have never experienced any noticeable benefit from those wings. Other than bling, there is no rideability difference to justify the significant extra money, for the competition version you reviewed. The S and the M might look similar, but they are different beasts and the price reflects that. I found that dealers are prepared to do a deal (without part ex), so don't have to pay the list price and the base M becomes even better value for money.

    • @yodomcat
      @yodomcat  Год назад

      Think we’re agreeing from reading the above. However I found the seat more comfortable to the pony I got a price from bmw! 😂
      The vibes affected me differently, vibey like the S, but didn’t hurt my elbows which a long contestant ride on my S does.
      Power, M is amazing, worth it over the S? If you can afford, if you can’t no disappointment in the S (with a decat).
      For the suspension it is dynamic like the r but with more adjustment in the pro modes from that I saw. Slap it in road and it is soft and comfy, whack in dynamic pro and it’s how you set up. Or did you spec manual suspension?

    • @teej710
      @teej710 Год назад +3

      @@yodomcat As for the suspension, on the S you can adjust the damping modes from the LH switch gear. Then the DDC does what it does. No switch gear option on the M. On the M these settings are Preset and you have to go into Race Pro mode, to setup custom damping values manually, then select that mode to use. Preload is manual on both S & M.
      On another note, RUclipsrs who don't actually own an M1000R, never mention the insurance aspect. In my experience, potential buyers should check whether they can get insurance first, before purchasing the bike. I have 42 years continuous riding experience and full NCD, but my existing insurer would not quote to add an M1000R. I had to change insurers and accept some ridiculous excess and clauses to get it insured within a multi bike policy. My BMW dealer informed me that he'd lost several orders, due to insurance quote issues. Something to bear in mind 🤔

    • @yodomcat

      @@PleadTheFifth_Racing it’s an amazing bike. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder so which would you feel more happy pulling up to the bike meet in. For me the bmw is perfect, but the Ducati has more prestige. At that level of cash though is there no way you can test ride with your foot?

    • @PleadTheFifth_Racing
      @PleadTheFifth_Racing Год назад

      @yodomcat unfortunately no because mounting the electronic shift cylinder requires some modification to the motorcycle that is not easily reversed, though minor.
      I know I'd be thrilled with either machine. The Ducati V4 sounds amazing and does have prestige for sure. But the BMW M 1000R with all the carbon, wings and M bits is beautiful too.
      Performance wise is the Ducati more hooligan machine and the bmw more refined race with decent in town manners?

    Love all the bikes today but since you talk about vibe and fun did you ever give the Super Duke a try? In my experience there is no naked on the market that provides soul and fun factor like the SD.....in fact nothing even comes close. I can see an RR on track being amazing and the R just seems like a naked RR......meaning a high reving race bike where the fun happens after you are already going way too fast. Don't get me wrong, I would love to have either the R or the RR in stable but I think I agree with you that the V4S would provide more smiles. I have a Pikes Peak and even at 170hp it is incredible, I can't imagine the 215HP V4R. One thing to consider is resale value, I imagine the M will hold its value better sort of justifying the higher price.......maybe....;-)

      Yes I covered this in the video. My bike is worth £12/13k if I sold. And to jump on the base M is £19.5k for me (and those with a S in the same position) the jump is £6k. More to the competition edition.
      If you sped up a full M-sport billet pack/carbon pack etc then you’re at full M money, but you’ll have the XR engine and not the RR engine so in that position I’d deffo take a base M and forego some extras.
