I have had my 2021 s1000r sport since June 2021 and have covered approx. 3500 miles and can say I bought the bike because it offered to me what I wanted - quality, performance, reliability. When I want to get it on 100mph + it will well beyond my skill level but if I want to be more subdued it will be equally capable. The gearing 1-3 is shorter than 4 -6 simply to provide progressive acceleration which results in the S1000r being faster 0-62 r than a s1000rr. I smile every time I look at it, ride it and every ride receive compliments from people who simple appreciate the bike and how it looks - mine is racing red with the red pinstripe painted on the wheels. It is a lovely bike

Hello Dom. I like your channel and honest reviews. Thanks for this excellent video about S1000R. I have 2022 S1000R with M package and I am also very happy with my decision. As you said, it is a perfect allrounder bike which you can ride easily, slowly and safely in city, or highway, you can turn off the TC and have unlimited wheelies when I want to feel some power. It will always put a smile on my face. As you said, we have a liter machine. Best electronics, efficiency, confident and of course Bmw quality. I disagree about if this doesnt have a soul and not sure how the community count the souls of bikes. 😂 this is a high tech, powerful, modern bike and it is suitable for any kind of needs. Still on the 2017 version but, yeah. With the BMW comfort seat and a Hornig windscreen, it's the perfect sport-touring machine for twisty mountain roads. Looks like they fixed the lackluster headlights in Gen 3, that was the only thing wrong with it. Lighter and faster? Icing on the cake.

I have a 2022 Triumph Street Triple RS, very, very happy with her right now. But, this one seems to be the right upgrade for whenever.
I love the word clinical, seems close to disciplined if you know what I mean. I feel rider aides are great, they keep you safe. And like you mentioned if you are feeling adventurous, turn them off. I’d rather have them watching my back, than off.

The screen was also rubbish, Triumph were the first to do a decent TFT that worked but since 2019 they have really messed the UI up and it just feels old and clunky. You know there is a problem when Aprilia make a more usable TFT!

Windscreen is pretty crap. In full tuck it will take the wind off. Not bad 90mph but above 110 you know you’re on a naked! The RR you’d only feel the it above 120. So summarise RR 90 feels like 40. R 90 feels like 90! 😂

Do you have to be in neutral to change modes? I've seen other videos where they just have to come completely off the throttle, so they hit the mode switch, release the throttle and it swaps mode, then back on the throttle in the new mode?

Thanks, glad you liked it 🙏🏻 I never bothered with the race pro modes on the RR as it disabled the app and Bluetooth - is that still the case?

    • @Porschemovies
      @Porschemovies Год назад +1

@@yodomcat yes still the case, the Connect App is trash and they want to monitor your speed and all that. I don't like big brother watching me. I issue I have with My RR is I'm too light for the heavy springs it comes with. I had to set the sag for like the track instead for the street I mostly ride. So I need the hydraulics open all the way or I would get thrown off the seat. I'm forced to be in Race Pro Mod so I can have the fastest throttle without having the RACE mode suspension settings. I can't change the springs to suite my weight because nobody can change the logic in DDC to match a different spring and work correctly. SO this is the only workaround I figured out for now.

Hi Dom, thanks for your informative review on the S1000R I'm looking at buying a new S1000R and would like your opinion on the subject of Vibration! There have been a lot of reviews since the release of the S1000 series commenting on excessive vibrating through the bars and foot pegs annoyingly right around the 100 kph touring speed! Having ridden motorcycles for 50 years 😲 excessive vibrating coupled with arthritis in the hands really detracts from the enjoyment of riding! Would appreciate your experience regarding the current model S1000R .

    • @yodomcat
      @yodomcat  Год назад +2

There are vibrations. But no way near the older models; so ordinarily I would answer don’t worry, however I’m not going to in your case.
I suffer from golfers elbow and my bike makes it worse. I would not not buy one because of this (after all what is for me is not for you), raise the issue with bmw and tell them you want to test ride the bike over night. Then plan a good 3 hour route and make sure for yourself.
Hope that helps 👍🏻 if the bmw is not for you the Triumph speed triple 1200RS is a good second option (review on my channel) but the bmw swayed it for me.

Hi enjoyed the review. I may have missed heard what you said but I think you said you need to go into neutral to change the Modes. If so this is not true, while travelling press the Mode button (right hand) repeatedly until you get to the one you want, roll off the throttle, pull in the clutch and the mode changes. Apologies if I heard it wrong. I went with your mirror recommendation after your other review. I think I have mine the other way round. e.g. flatter edge on the inside. Just an observation really.

@@yodomcat Sounds cool, but the M1000RR didn’t go over too well and, unless you plan to exclusively track it, it isn’t the better choice. I only ordered the S1000RR because I gave up on the idea of a dedicated 600cc track bike due to numerous challenges in doing so. I sold my Ninja ZX14r for street fun, consolidated my BMW K1600 GTL and R1250 GSA into a single dual sport and touring bike (kept the GSA), and used the proceeds to get something that could be an adrenaline machine on-road, track bike, and also do some touring. Hence, it needs to be good on-road and not kill me on track as I’m getting into that (600cc would have been a bit more of a gradual learning curve). So the S1000RR was a compromise, and an M1000R/RR is likely to be too much of a compromise. So, not sure that’s a good idea, for me at least.

@@ryanmalone2681 We'll have to see what they release, I think it won't be so track heavy like the RR, but won't know until it comes, but the main thing is BMW bringing shift-cam to more bikes, I think it will become the standard.

Cheapest? This is $1k less than an identical RR and about $1-$2k less than a SFV4S. Don’t compare with a Tuono V4 because that’s cheaper and better.

At this level of cost, most I would imagine would finance (I did), and then that kinda puts them all the same, couple of thousand here nor there is about £50 a month.
Personally I can’t get on with Tuono, waaaay too much drama! 😂

Biught my in Jul '21, it's 25000km now, at 12k there were two large noises like something broke inside, soon after that strong vibrations started to come and go, at 18k those vibrations stayed and are permanent, after two hours on highway my fingers getting numb, I have to rub them to get back feeling.
I went to my dealer, they told me it's normal and I should ride and observe and they can't do anything about it, I asked them what if the engine blows? I was told it they will replace it under warranty.
My question is WHAT THE ACTUAL FCK?! @BMW #BMW
Is this premium customer service ??
    Is this reliability ??
Or it's some cheap brand nobody ever heard about ??
    DON'T RECOMMEND THIS SHITTY BIKE

Sorry you had a bad experience, it is a vibey bike, the R series always has been, for some worse than others.

@@yodomcat I know it's vibey, knew it before I bought my bike but something broke and vibrations are like 10 times stronger, that's not ok.
Don't get me wrong, it's a great bike, I loved riding it unitl it broke.
I understand things can break, it's just a machine but I have a warranty and they should fix it.

@@p4wk0r Ah sorry I misread so something really broke. That is bad BMW are not resolving this for you under warranty. In your position I would go to a local trusted specialist (doesn';t have to be a BMW specialist, just a known local tuner) pay them to find out what is wrong and put it in writing, BMW will have to investigate and if they agree fix.
If you say something broke, I think a balancing issues, could be weights in the tyres, busted dampener, or a misfire, etc. It will probably be something simple. Check the suspension from Road to Dynamic also.
It shouldn't be this way, but I had a similar experience with Triumph and this is what I did to resolve.

@@yodomcat vibrations coming from the engine, when I ride on highway, constant speed I press clutch bike vibrates but when I press clutch and release throttle they are gone, revving up and they are back.
Both local BMW dealers in my area have the same owner, I thought about some tuner or specialist and I think it's the way to go.
I've been commenting on BMW Facebooks apges and BMW Motorrad contacted me via Messenger, they assured me they are working on it but I have to wait, it's been a month ago.
I hope they will fix it but I no longer trust the brand and my local dealer is responsible for loosing a client.

@@p4wk0r I had Triumph tell me my triple was fine, took it to a local tuner (Ducati specialist) who straightaway saw the rear shock was gone. Simple and cheap fix, but 3 visits to Triumph and they said it's fine.
It is your luck, but if you get a specialist to find the problem then get BMW to fix under warranty. My local BMW are great but if I have any issues I go my local mechanic (the one I mentioned above) and have him look first, if cheap I just get him to do it, if expensive then use the warranty.
