Nice review and I totally agree on how good this bike is. I picked my S1000R up beginning of July and have put almost 13'000km on it. I love the Hockenheim-Silber color scheme. Needless to say I love this bike. It really comes to life on the roads in Schwarzwald and in alpine twisty roads. When on a week long tours with a passenger and luggage it requires frequent stops just to stretch the legs and I will be looking at getting a second bike for those trips. For me this was the "sensible" bike to get: loads of fun racing through tight twisty roads and grown up enough to use it as an every day bike. One of the best features is the front light... yes, it looks characterless, but the light you get from this is second to none and is better than the lights on most cars. The cornering light on the other hand is hardly noticeable. I have the stock exhaust and don't notice much of a difference compared to the Akrapovic. Sound did change a lot since I first got it and driving in "Dynamic Pro" mode gives the exhaust this beautifully addicting burble of little backfires when rolling off the throttle. If you do get a S1000R I highly recommend the Dynamic Pro package, active suspension and heated grips. I am still using the standard wheels and may upgrade those to forged wheels later on. The difference is very noticeable especially when using the carbon wheels... but those were beyond my budget ;-) Handling on this bike is an absolute dream even with the standard wheels One of the things I really don't like about the bike is the Bluetooth system. The connection with my Cardo PackTalk bold is terrible: Audio quality and timing varies constantly. I had to connect the phone directly to the headset and now I cant accept calls or change music over the handle bar controls. I really hope they will be able to increase signal strength with a software update. I still keep the phone connected to the bike to track all rides with the BMW app and this will also show the current speed limit on the dashboard and allow for turn-by turn instructions directly on the bikes display Another thing I don't understand on this bike is the mirror configuration. On the standard mirrors about 2/3 of the view is covered by my arms, so I have to move my elbow in to see what is behind me. they should be moved out a bit more or have a slightly longer bar. I replaced them with ones from Rizoma mounted on the handlebar ends.
I got one myself! Coming from MV Dragster, this bike is a dream! It handles like no other bike I've ever had! I'm glad I got his instead of RR; it's much easier to live with on a daily basis since I ride it every day!
Great review. I went from a Tuono to one of these. No, you don't have the sound and torque a bit lower in the revs but, that aside, it's a far superior bike (IMO). Give it some revs and it comes alive, it is proper grin and chuckle factor... The Tuono never gave me the giggles like this bike does! And the smoothness to me is a bonus, not a lack of character, specially after a Tuono.
The Beemer is nice but I would not trade a 765 RS for it. Your Triumph is already tuned and equiped. It is lighter. It is (hopefully) paid for. Realistically the bigger BMW will not be any faster, anywhere, despite having more power. If you just fancy trying something different, then go for it. Fun bike for sure. And also new content for the channel is a good thing. I bought a Duke 890R after a long debate of it v.s. Street Triple and love mine. Definitely will not trade it for a SuperDuke for cost reasons and because it's quite hard to exploit all the power the 890 R has and I am a pretty decent rider with 3 decades of riding experience and loads of track days done.
I stepped up from the Street RS to the S1000R Sport last year and have never looked back. Just an amazing machine. Hope you rode it in Dynamic Pro mode for some real OMG moments!
@@BikesofRye no mate Ireland, i would say the waiting list for use is much shorter if even you have one, they had 2 where I bought it but an M model and the one you are on here. But I want the red colour so I have to wait for it.
Myself a primary BMW rider after a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI work related) I found I could only ride with fully intergraded ABS, my eye to hand coordination severely handicapped my ability to keep my shiny bike shiny. As well as I hate driving in rush hour traffic in Dallas without wearing full body armor. Because you have to worry about the four wheelers that don’t see you at all. I did test drive a K1200 GT and figured out it was way too much HP for me.
So did you buy one!? I went from a 2017 Street Triple RS to the same version and colour in your review, nearly done 2000 miles and no regrets. Get Dynamic Pro mode to suit you, enjoy the overun pops and bangs which this mode gives you....totally agree about the slight lack of character and am also looking to update the stock slip-on.

Well if it was like for like on tech by chosing a base S1000R and only ticking the option for the bi-directional qs. The BMW would be 1k more in the u.k and I would absolutely chose the BMW.
I purchased the S1000R Sport five weeks ago and haven't looked back. There is a stylish windscreen for it I have ordered and maybe a radiator guard but apart from that the bike is fine. I would also like to see some reports on the fuel, might not be interesting to everybody but in my country the fuel prices going trough the roof, I think it will play a role in buy or not to buy decision.
