1200-mile BMW M1000R review + Autobahn top-speed test

  • I wanted to see if the 2023 BMW M1000R is a 207hp improvement on the older S1000R, so I took it on a 1,200-mile tour of France and Germany to see if it's up toe scratch.
    Join me for a walkaround, a look at the BMW Connected app (an absolute godsend), some top-speed testing on the Autobahn and a chat about the handling. There's also a man relieving himself on a hairpin if you get really bored in the middle.

    Love that the BMW engineers just went crazy and slotted the full fat motor in a naked chassis. I less like the looks, the vibes and the stiff set up.
    I've done 33,000 miles on my MT10, many around Europe. Don't think I could do those miles on the 'M'. Think I prefer comfortable crazy with a great soundtrack. Insane crazy while being fun for short periods, could get wearing.

    The vibration was totally unacceptable with the MR. The handling was awesome and brakes very good. Thing I found that the engine is really lacking in the midrange compared to my Ducati Streetfighter v4 SP. I do believe the SP will be ahead when ridden head to head. The competition MR is the only option if they could sort the vibes out.

    I just came back to watch this review again as I’m considering ether 1 The M1000r or option 2.. The Kawasaki H2Se …. I’ve sat on the H2 it feels surprisingly comfortable but obviously I need to ride both ! Which one would you choose Tim given the choice as your only bike ? 👍🏾

    • @timrodierides
      @timrodierides  7 месяцев назад +1

      I've not even sat on an H2 sadly so can only speak to the BMW. The BMW is pretty committed in terms of riding position and bar vibes - you can tell it's as close to a sportsbike as you can get without bending your spine. By all accounts the H2 is heavier, a bit more relaxed in riding position and comfort… but also crazy fast. Guess it depends what sort of riding you'll be doing!

    • @Cartsp70
      @Cartsp70 3 месяца назад

      @@timrodierides hey 👋🏽 great video I watched again 😂🎉! I tried the M1000R it’s in a different league to the Zh2, it’s comfortable not too leant forward and just the fit and finish is better, the Zh2 yes it has a supercharger but that just makes it accelerate without the tiny delay that you get from any other Bike, but that’s not necessarily a good thing it’s just faster but better ?I’d have to say no unless you’re in a race with someone and you’re usually not so I’d pick quality over speed!

    Excellent vid as per usual, Tim! :) "Stranger in the night", huh? (and the gyrating at the end, what kind of bike channel is this becoming? (surprised you didn't get a Wurst joke in there, too ;) :p :D :D )). Surely, regardless, for the price the MT10 is WAY more value for money if it even gets close-ish to being as good? How do you think it compares on bumpy UK B-roads to the Voges (which themselves, for France, are often not particularly smooth)? (Good to see they have finished resurfacing the "entry road" up the hill - they were scraping it when I was there and it wasn't pleasant, and the fun was ruined... Keep up the good work! :) (also, whats the XT2 news, would like to find out what happened there?)

    It looks SO GOOD! I think I'd prefer the 1290 SuperDuke, except for that damn KTM reliability. I've heard it's a lot more uncomfortable than any of the other supernakeds due to the sporty wristy position. I think I'd be afraid of crashing it at the track though. I'd rather have an MT-10 SP so I'm not too worried about crashing it and can use it on the street and track. My current ZX-14r is a bit too much for the track.
