    I did wheel bearing hubs and the rear bearings (pressed in) on a 2005 mercury mountaineer and everything that could give me problems did. They were seized by rust. I put the rear bearings in the freezer overnight to shrink them that one thousandth of an inch to give me a very little advantage haha. Congratulations on being a verified youtuber now. I just realized it today so i dont know when you did actually get it. Its nice watching your videos on fixing things that i probably wont encounter. Keep the videos comin'!

    i love how you guys laid out this video. showing everything. the tools you used. even mentioning the tool sizes (t27, etc..). makes it really easy to know what ayour getting into before starting the job, and begin sure you have at least the bare minimum of the tools you will need.

    For the really stubborn bolts and stuff I'll hit them with a 50/50 mix of ATF and acetone. It'll ruin grease and some plastics, but boy does it penetrate! I used it to remove a lot of the suspension parts on the front of my '04 Yukon XL that had spent 10 years in Massachusetts. PB wasn't loosening anything up, but after letting the mix sit for about 10 minutes, they came of like nothing.

    One tip for o-rings. Especially on big engines like Detroits or Walkashas. Run a penciled pick around the o-ring to take out the twist that developed during installation.

    Ford makes a special seal installer for that vacuum seal that makes things so much easier. I have done a few of these now.

    Question and comment: Q. You mentioned that the hub was dry at the start of the video. Do you grease/regrease the gears before reassembly? Why would the hub be dry in the first place if it's sealed? Comment: I loved the simple A + B = C approach. Kudos to the both of you.... just watching how you two paid attention to the smallest details tells me that I would bring my repair needs to you guys. Learned something new today. Good job.

I am adding these 2 links so that someone in the future won't waste the hours I did. Mine was stuck in 2wd and when I changed the switch nothing happened.

    Man I am liking the old school/ designs better,and better..I bet there is 200 bux in seals just on that side of that front end...3 bills for a manual/auto hub vs 150-200 bux for a pair of manual hubs...

    • @briansmobile1

      The beauty is, it already is equipped with manual hubs as a back-up plan. I do like that. The auto is great for women and their impractical footwear/clothing.

    briansmobile1 I have this same problem with the hubs not engaging, and have looked on the internet and couldn't find a solution. Thank you! I usually just get out and manually lock them in. Have you ever used Dynatrac's Free Spin kit or Spyntec's hub conversion kits? I was wondering what you thought of them, are they worth it? I have a 2006 F350 4x4 with 120k miles and have heard stories of the bearings failing and stranding trucks. Thoughts?

    I liked pretty much everything in this vid except when it came time to install the big vacuum seal. You really should use the OTC tool (OTC 6697 I think) for this. That seal is too expensive and too crucial to put it on with anything else. It's not that much and you only have to buy it once. If you have it, this part only takes a few whacks with a big hammer and it's in and in right. And - the seal at the axle housing needed to be replaced, too. It was shot.

    • @mrk2290
      @mrk2290 2 года назад

      i agree have done many ,correct way is to use the tool to set seal depth if not seal life is shortened. It is a poor design to begin with so go by the book and do it right

    Can this also cause it to work sometimes,. It works when locking in the hubs but when going in to reverse and then forward again it stops working .I more the hub again and it works again. What can be the issue?

    I LIKED THE VIDEO UNTIL YOU INSTALLED THE SEAL AND THEN THE PROCESS OF SEATING THE SEAL IN THE KNUCKLE. THAT IS NOT THE WAY TO DO IT. YOU NEED AN INSTALLATION TOOL TO SET THE PROPER DEPTH IN THE KNUCKLE. YOU CAN DO IT WITHOUT THE TOOL BUT YOU WILL PLAY HELL TRYING TO SET THE PROPER DEPTH AND MAKE IT SQUARE IN THE KNUCKLE SO THAT YOU CAN SECURE THE "C" CLIP. I SUSPECT THAT IS WHY YOU DID NOT COMPLETE THE INSTALL IN THE VIDEO.

    I have a 2002 Super Duty with auto locking W/ manual override hubs. The switch for the manual override has become very stiff over time. Does anyone have a good way to loosen them up. I've soaked them in ATF and WD-40 and I still need to use pliers to engage them. These units are about $400 a piece from the dealer so I took mine apart and re~lubed it. I noticed that it doesn't pay to be too liberal with the axle grease inside the unit. I had to reclean the unit and relube it lightly with white lithium to get it to work. Has anyone had any luck with the Dorman aftermarket units for $145?
