ANYONE having a noise in 4x4 ONLY, & when you start spinning, needs to check this and see if it applies. We have had several people reach out and say that their dealer told them "It is normal and will go away as "it" breaks in." Are you kidding me.....SMFH. Please please if you are NOT getting the service you deserve, I would highly advise YOU to make the trek to come and see us to get this handled. Enough is enough, our TRUCK MAKES NO NOISE, it's NOT normal. Stop telling people this and just fix their trucks. THANKS so much for watching each weeks episode, means a lot. As a owner, most technicians dismissed my requests for them to watch your fix for the "squeeky" axle.
They reguarded me as a unknowing person and are just full of themselves in how thing work. I started working and repairing Marmon Harrington AWD trucks before their parents were born.
Thank you so very much for your content!

The company I work for has both and the 6.2s have been more reliable small sample but still in my experience the gas trucks have way less issues. Of course it's not typical use idling around muddy construction sites all day and night.

    • @Engine-town
      @Engine-town 7 месяцев назад

@@rockie307yeah i’m not surprised by that one bit. I’m pretty sure everyone buying these trucks know that putzing around and idling is for gassers. If you run a diesel like that, the number one issue is the CCV box. Almost no one knows about it, and if they do they still don’t service it. So as a general statement I don’t agree. Like you said they’re being worked a specific way…

I took my 2022 F250 in 4 months ago because of this funny metallic noise also coming from the drivers side axle. I told the dealer I thought something was wrong with the hub. The dealer said their "master tech" said the noises were normal and refused to resolve the issue. I told them there was nothing normal about this noise. Thanks for the video. I'm taking this back to the dealer with a video of my truck making the noise and I'm bringing Ford in on this to make sure whatever is wrong gets fixed.

Driver side. 21 f350 6.7 had this same issue. Watched over dozens of RUclips videos to see a possible repair for this model year but this is the first video so far for my model year. Was going to tackle myself but dealership got it fixed under warranty. Paid out of pocket to have them replaced the passenger side while they were at it just in case. Also had them install the front axle knuckles seal shield. Hopefully it’ll help keep crap out of the seals. I’ll have to see. A month after the repair now my 4x4 doesn’t engage unless I lock the hub manually. Go figure.😢 But Arod by far is the most knowledgeable person on these super duties. And I really learn and appreciate all your content. Excellent as always

Plow enough snow with these trucks and you can identify exactly what this is within about ten seconds. I sometimes get seals from national that dont have silicone grease in the wiper portion of the seal, if we put them in without checking that they make this noise within one or two plowing sessions. Number two is getting new unit bearings with an ungreased shaft support bearing, that has been happening the last few years so we get stuck doing surgery so we can put a grease needle in that bearing and fill it. I hired a new tech to manage our trucks and machines, these kinds of parts quality issues are so prevalent now its alarming. You will need to be vigilant, that is all it is.

My 2022 350 started doing this today and i stopped at the dealership where i bought it. The Service writer came out and listened to it. went back in and talked to a tech that told him it was normal, just a rubber seal rubbing on metal. It sounds EXACTLY like this truck, if not louder. They told me to just keep running it, everything is good.

2022 F550 dump truck, less than 10k miles. Only use 4H in the winter when plowing residential and commercial lots. Noticed the same noise in December brought it to the dealer they stated it was normal. Had a long duration snow storm in January and kept hearing the noise (drove me nuts) captured it on video this time and showed the dealer. They decided to dig a little further this time. Ended up being the same seal. Ford the king of quality the last couple of years. Lol yeah right. I have a love hate relationship with my truck

I have a beautiful 2017 F350 with 76k on it. The day of purchase I traded one of the most powerful trucks I’ve owned which was a 20-F250. I noticed before I left the lot the 350 has a ticking noise in the hub, we searched for what sounded like a lug nut rattling in the cover and have yet to find the cause. This video makes me question my service shop… I never get proper answers or concerns. For instance, I dropped the 350 off asking them to service and find any issues. It came back with the same issues that I found myself like a hole drilled in the top of the primary coolant tank and the tank empty the infamous hose clamps loose and leaking across the top of the engine… I’m willing to pay the bill I just would like my truck fixed as it should. Thank you for the excellent videos, info, and work sir! Tell me how to book an appointment for a full service 👏🏻

Great video! I have a 2002 Excursion with 2006 axles and the driver's side makes a similar, loud squeal once every turn but only at slow speeds. Started after a shop installed a new lockout hub. I'm hoping it is just a bent dust shield and have not dealt with it in almost a year and a half. The front axle also makes a loud clunking noise and has movement where the driveshaft goes into the pumpkin so that is a higher priority to fix. If the squeal isn't external, now I know what to suspect. Also, I am jealous, I don't think I ever worked on a vehicle this new or clean.

Ford has used those "rotating seal inside a seal" for a long time. I've never heard the squeal, but they seem to leak a lot more often than just a plain wheel seal. I would think a piece of stamped sheet metal would not make a good sealing surface but admittedly I haven disassembled one to see what the inside is like. There is also a limited lubricant available for the seal which I think contributes to their self destruction.

It doesn’t make sense that the seal would fail like that. What is the cause?
The seal shouldn’t support anything, after all it’s not a bearing right?
As I see it, either the u-joint bearings are not keeping the shaft positioned or there is play in the splines going into the hub.
    A weird one for sure!

  • @rickcollins1796

Whenever you have one of these apart be sure to grease the axle bearings. The tapered roller wheel bearings are a sealed unit, but on the inside of the hub is a needle bearing the axle rides on that only turns when in 4 wheel drive.

ED, had to grind tips of my cclip pliers to work! why not pull pull/push axle into assembly with 4 rear nuts as i did?? didnt buy special driver tool, you hit hard with 2lb hammer! the cheaper seal wont take much hammering! the snap ring was frustating with my harbor freight pliers! u do have nice clear videos.

Wish I had that wacking tool when I did mine. I also changed the axel shaft tube seal while I was in there.

My truck started doing this over the winter so thanks for the fix. A question about another issue, the 4x4 won’t engage in cold weather ( minus 20 or colder) I am told this is not unusual in cold weather, help!

It should be going into 4x4 REGARDLESS of the temp outside

I just had to use the 4 wheel drive on my new to me 2019 F350 deisel dually. At speeds more than maneuvering around the driveway, i am hearing a faint screech / squeal. Only in 4x4. Gonna be looking into it soon.

This video made my day. I have a 2010 F250 with the same noise, but mine just make noise after backing out of my driveway, turning right and starts making the metallic rubbing noise for about 200' then stops. Being in 4WD doesn't really make a difference.
I had it in the shop and was sure it was a hub bearing, but the mechanic wasn't sure and didn't make any promises that a new hub was the cure. Sure enough I dropped $1000 on the job but it didn't fix the problem. Now I'm thinking he knew but didn't have the seal installer tool.
My speedometer and odometer stopped working a few months ago, just before the squeaking started, and now I wonder if it could have been related to the speed sensor and this bad seal? What do you think?
    Thanks again for this video.
