    Emus aren't an invasive species, they are native to Australia
    It's just that they were migrating and taking over farmland, consuming crops (during a time when farmers were struggling to make a living growing wheat during the Great Depression) and destroyed fences which allowed rabbits to further cause more problems. So the military stepped in...out of 20K emus, they only got 986

      @@shenlun That's not entirely true. The three founders of OS were inspired by Australian people being fun-loving, gregarious and laid back and they wanted that atmosphere for their restaurants. It was just a coincidence that the Crocodile Dundee II movie was out at the time. At first they wanted to call it Dundee's or Sydney's as homage to Aus but decided on Outback as all three men previously worked at another steakhouse called Steak and Ale during the 1970's that had an American Frontier desert theme so they compared it to the outback being the wild west of the Aussie frontier.

    Outback Steakhouse is as Australian as our nuclear missiles
    Yes, the chain was founded in Florida by people who have never even been to Australia. While the timing of the restaurant's founding was around the time Crocodile Dundee came out, they didn't carry on its success but rather based it off Australia's "fun-loving and gregarious people, and very casual people. We thought, `That's exactly the kind of friendliness and atmosphere we want to have in our restaurants.'" They went from doing an American West steakhouse...to an Aussie West one

    Outback is based on 1990s US stereotypes of Australia cooked to American tastes. It's Australian the way General Tso's Chicken is Chinese. US culture is fusion, not authenticity.

    • @lmaree200886
      @lmaree200886 3 года назад +5

      It's not based on a stereotype, the three owners liked Australian people as we are laid back, fun loving and gregarious (at the time, probably not so much now!) and they wanted that atmosphere for their restaurants. Coincidentally Crocodile Dundee II was out at the same time, they had two other name choices, Sydney's or Dundee's but named it outback as all three had previous experience working at another steakhouse called Steak and Ale that had an American Frontier desert theme and the outback is the Aussie version.

    Outback Steakhouse was created by three Americans without a lack of real knowledge about what is really Australian but it was made mostly in jest not stupidity. They based it on Aussie humour and our fun loving, laid back and gregarious natures (at the time, more of us aren't like that now cause of C) It's an American restaurant with a loose Aussie theming, not really genuine and its not meant to be genuine. Our Hog's Breath Cafes (actually a steakhouse) are more Australian themed then OS if you go to one! They have a huge collection of real Australiana from signs to posters to actual surfboards and stuff! It's real fun spotting things as each restaurant is designed differently.
    We eat only a few items on that menu, the baked potato (we have restaurants that only specialise in them!) and the deep fried mushrooms. I have seen those served for many decades at multiple Aus steakhouses and a chicken franchise called Chicken Express here. We have steaks but they aren't quite as large unless you pay big money for higher quality meat. The filet minon and lobster is called 'surf and turf' and you can choose prawns too. Jam donuts are a common Aussie bakery treat but its slightly different here, generally raspberry or strawberry jam depending on who makes them.

      Brazilian Churascarria's or BBQ's are popular in Aus too but its a shame its not a true Australian restaurant that's popular over there.
