But you also explain your side well, take the opportunity to experience their culture even if it's at the surface, and have the time of your life with something that many could say was a once in a lifetime experience. Very well made, I love how much your videos feel like a documentary/movie. Most Aussies typically aren't as patriotic as Americans but goddamn nothing gets an Aussie more proud of their country than seeing others experience it first-hand.

unironically it looks like he got a good spread of australian food and experiences he even experienced vegemite how an aussie would eat it. truely looks like a wonderful memorable experience where you could not possibly have a single regret. The best place you could find a parm for anyone wondering is actually just a pub. its generally considered a pub food.
Yes, a meat pie is usually eaten with a big dob of tomato sauce splashed on top. And as my father (who was an Irish immigrant) taught me as a kid, the measure of a true-blue Aussie was being able to eat a pie with sauce one-handed (and these were the old-school mass-produced square "footy pies" with a runny mince & gravy filling and a thin, soggy pastry base served in a shallow & fragile foil tray) without spilling the whole lot down the front of your shirt and into your lap; the reason why it was essential that you be able to achieve this one-handed was because you'd [naturally] be holding a frosty can of beer in the other hand.
Dude... you seriously flexed your filmmaking chops with this one. Your eye for cinematography right down to your usage of music is nothing short of inspiring. Shout out to the Air BnB Lizzy
For those who are interested, the restaurant vistied in the video has only been a Outback steakhouse for a few years as they rebranded from a Lonestar which was a texan theme restaurant.
Oh wow! Lone star! I remember that now. Another decent easy family restaurant gone the way of sizzler and their magic toastie bread 😢 Christ that actually blew the dust off a whole heap of memories from what’s gotta be at least 25 years ago. Cheers man! Better throw in a big ole 🖕to food star just for good measure lol
Where I lived in Leumeah we had an Outback Steakhouse for years. It’s still Outback Steakhouse today & there is a new one that was built recently. Lonestar was its own thing that’s come & gone over the years. I remember when I was a kid Lonestar had peanuts that people just threw the shells on the floor
I'm not the most patriotic Aussie but I love my country...seing you wide-eyed and bushy-tailed enjoying Australia through a lens I dont often see first hand was the most wholesome thing. I'm glad we put a good show on for you!!!
How the heck did you take a video about outback steakhouse, a traditional very un-australian thing. And turn it into one of the best video about Australia by an American, well done sir, this has earned you a subscription
Exactly what I was thinking! Close to the end of the food portion I checked to see if there were any other videos of your time in aus to see some blog type stuff then I was pleasantly surprised when the video went on after Outback Steakhouse, so respectful and great to see instead of being blissfully ignorant as some tourists can be, he seemed to really care about getting it right and admiring - I’ve watched some of his videos before but I also subbed from this video, it was great!
I'm Irish, and I went to an Outback when I was in Florida a few years ago. I don't remember what I ate but I do remember being given a free bloomin' onion by a server because they made an extra by accident and it was my brother's birthday. I'll always like Outback for that.
As an Aussie, you did a fantastic job touring Australia you did almost everything an Aussie would want you to, I hope you enjoyed our country and at the end of the day that’s all that matters. Thank you for coming and documenting our country beautifully
Agreed. Personally though, I'd have wanted him to stay another few days and drive to the desert, Cooktown to Mt Isa, or Adelaide to Thargomindah or something. That's how you understand Australia I think. Drive slowly past thousands of ks of nothing... praying you don't get lost and die lol.
‘Is a meat pie a breakfast item?’ It is if you’re a first year builders (aka ‘chippy’) apprentice, washing it down with a litre can of Monster at 6am 😂
Outback was opened because a group of rich dudes wanted a spot to have drinks and a steak after a round of golf. It got it's theme becase Crocodile Dundee was SUPER popular while they were hatching their genius plan to eat and drink for free by building their own restaurant. I worked for one, and the brand is very proud of it's origin story, and it's a central part of the onboarding process when you're hired. Another fun detail that they're weirdly proud of-- an inventor local to their original location loved it and wanted to help them streamline the Bloomin Onion. He fabricated a customized potato cutter (like for fries). They didn't accept his invention because they didn't think it was worth paying for it (he offered it up VERY cheap). He spent so much time on it and had no other use for it, so he just gave it to them for free with 0 contract etc. Naturally they immediately got a patent and now it's a cornerstone part of their very dumb lore...
As an aussie I really enjoyed how comprehensive this video was for the short time you stayed. Genuinely the best approach I've seen to a short Aus tour, and you really ticked off so many essentials. Definitely earned a sub. Cheers
As a brisbane resident, for the short time you were in aus, you had the perfect itinerary. Cairns, gold coast, sunny coast, getting that all done in such a short time is pretty impressive, and all the places you went to are the best places we have to offer. Even the foods, you had, great choice. Just maybe not the pie for breaky
As a Queenslander on the Gold Coast I find your pronunciation of Queensland is acceptable either way. Australian food - kanga bangers (kangaroo meat sausages) , meat pies, and we fight New Zealand about the origins of lamingtons and pavlova. Other than that, yep our food is what you'd find in the US or UK. Our bread doesn't tend to be as sweet as bread in the US.That pie looked like about a 6 to me too but the best pies are from Yatala - just off the freeway half way from Gold Coast to Brisbane. The "koala" signs are really warnings about drop-bears, an aggressive and carnivorous variety of koalas that our tourism industry suppresses information about, to avoid scaring off tourists. Hope you enjoyed the rest of your stay and i'm looking forward to seeing the rest of your videos!
I’m an American who luckily knows about the dangerous drop bear and i recently made a presentation to warn my friends about them. Sadly they didn’t take it seriously meaning that are more susceptible to an attack. Is it true that drop bears are more likely to attack those without Australian accents? Something about the comfort the drop bear gets from a non-foreign accent.
@@jennatandy6272Nah nah, the misconception about the accent is just correlation, not causation. It's the Vegemite that actually keeps drop bears at bay, though I'n not sure if it's been conclusively proven if just eating it is enough or if you have to also rub some behind your ears!
Hate to give yous credit, but lamingtons are defo Australian, though as far as I can tell we invented the far superior raspberry variant. Pav however is 100% ours
I'm an American but my spouse is from southeast Asia. She was woefully unaware of the danger presented by drop bears. Fortunately I set her straight so when we visit AU, she will be safe.
The exchange rate is super favourable for Americans, plus Australia is so expensive, can see the world and experience different cultures for cheaper, no point exploring our backyard it’s a rort for cashed up tourists
i snorted at the title because there is nothing Australian about Outback Steakhouse, but as the video progressed, it became more and more Australian. Well done mate
A lot of people incorrectly think we just call ketchup tomato sauce but nope, they have totally different ingredients! I discovered this when I worked in a warehouse that sold both ketchup and tomato sauce, I thought it was odd to sell the same thing with just a different name and I looked at the ingredients on them.
Tomato sauce is more vinegary and less sugar than ketchup but agreed - it’s essential for a good pie/sausage roll experience. I would gag trying to eat them without sauce - way too dry 😂
This video took a great deal of effort to make. Educational and entertaining for sure. I do like Outback Steakhouse. I even visited one branch in Manila, Philippines. No, that purple slice was a passionfruit. They would be prolific in Hawaii. There used to be thousands of aboriginal dialects but over time, they have been lost and we are making huge efforts to keep the remaining 200 or so.
Just curious, what is the reason for wanting to keep so many dialects (as opposed to the culture or root language, which are obvious)? Don’t dialects naturally disappear when groups aren’t isolated any longer?
@@DragonsFrogs Aboriginals were nomadic people with no one defining culture or language, there were thousands of different tribes across the country independent of each other. Many were wiped out entirely when Europeans settled here and over time many have disappeared for numerous reasons.

Yo, the outback steakhouse is around the corner from a place I used to lived in. Also, sauce on a meat pie or sausage roll is quite common. Typical sauces are tomato sauce (ketchup) or BBQ sauce. A snag also usually comes with caramelised onions, and most people would also add a sauce on top of it. Hope that helps.
This may have been pointed out in another comment, but I've made Bushman Bread (the bread you get at Outback). The version you got for that meal is actually what the bread generally looks like. In the US, they add brown food coloring to get that dark look. It's actually very easy to make at home, if you like it.

Always find it very interesting watching Americans/ Canadians visit and review Australia. Just some fun educational facts for next time: Cairns is pronounced as CANS ( as in a can of beans) and not Karen’s and also the fruit that you referred to as a “ papaya” is actually a Passionfruit which is very different both in size, colour and shape. This was a wonderful vid!
The fruit at 21.36 is a passion fruit. The passion fruit (Portuguese: maracujá and Spanish: maracuyá, both from the Tupi mara kuya "fruit that serves itself" or "food in a cuia") is the fruit of a number of plants in the genus Passiflora.

I'm Australian, and the first time I visited America I was taken to an Outback Steakhouse (I'm pretty certain at that point - 2003 - that there really weren't any in Aus). I cracked open the menu and... nothing. Not one thing in that menu was Australian. The first words out of my mouth were, "What on Earth is a bloomin' onion?" I hope while you were in Aus you tried out some local restaurants as well. Ah, I've just got to the point in the video where you try snacks. Now you're making me homesick. To explain our health star rating as alot of Aussies also don't understand it. The health star rating is grouped with "like foods" and is meant to help you make healthier choices when selecting foods at the shops. It is not accurate to compare "unlike foods" like milk vs timtams or even shapes and timtams! However you can use the system to compare a whole wall of timtams or chocolate biscuits! Hope this makes more sense for everyone and other Aussies+!
Dude, this video was so freaking cool! I've been wanting to go to Australia for forever, and seeing you just randomly decide to go there on a whim was awesome. Also I appreciate how all out you seemed to go with the production values/editing. Sometimes the less immediately noticeable stuff like that can really make a difference.
Just to clarify to you NSW has like 8 million people, and as you said theres around 6 locations there. It makes sense to have 6 of them there instead of in the Northern Territory or Western Australia where you have like nobody (besides Perth) lol. Either way cool to see it exists there. I hope they bring it to New Zealand where I live someday.

To be fair starting a restaurant so your mates and you can sit around drinking and eating steak for free is a very australian origin story.
Yes. That’s true. They rode on the wave of the Australian Phenomenon of the Crocodile Dundee film.

Also it is extremely rare for you to need to ask for the bill in australia, the vast majority of places you either pay before sitting or you pay at the front.
