Up until seeing the clips from the hearing, I saw Kavanaugh as a guy who'd been a proper asshole and a misogynist in school and then grown out of it on the day of graduation, someone about whom you could truly say their past doesn't reflect their present. Associating those horrendous details to the cucumber in a suit Kavanaugh seems to be had just enough of a disconnect that could make people who have existing bias believe him.
Thank you, Brett, for showing us your true colours and the anger and entitlement of a man wholly capable of pinning down a woman to a bed and covering her mouth when she tries to object.

I think the largest portion of discontent comes from him not appearing close to being impartial as a potential supreme court judge. His statement was heavily political. Come on now, a Clinton conspiracy? Regardless of his innocence or guilt he has been very emotional, not a calm rational reaction you expect from a judge. I expected him to have said something along the lines of
" What has happened to Dr.Ford is awful and very traumatic, it should be taken very seriously. I am not the person who has done or is capable of any such horrible act. I welcome a polygraph. I also welcome an FBI investigation as I feel there might be a chance it would reveal the identity of the person responsible for what has happened to Dr Ford. Sexual assault is a big problem in our society and as a potential Supreme Court Judge I will do everything I can to help tackle this issue at large. I am now open to questions. * ---- Yes I did like a drink in high school, i was particularly fond of beer. --- No there is no chance i did something like this and then passed out and forgot. I agree with Dr.Ford that you would remember something so awful. Thank you all."
I expected him to answer questions calmly, without prejudice and give rational intelligent answers. That's the minimum you would expect from a Supreme Court Judge. The Republicans control both houses. If they control the Supreme Court which has to be impartial and have no party influences then you can't call it a democratic country. (It's not been that for a long time now anyway but it wasn't on the surface as much.) I don't know if he's innocent or guilty. He has proven he is not fit for such a high post in the way he has conducted himself, nor is he in any way impartial. Aye aye

Just assuming this pathetic alcoholic Ivy League baby would have a chance at getting on the Supreme Court, and the women they got drunk and molested would speak out? Holy shit they’re good. That’s a stunt, damn right! Ruin his life? Hahaha wow, so if a filthy rich liar (you just pointed out very clearly that he has no integrity and pretends to be whatever fits the circumstances) doesn’t get a lifetime appointment as a Supreme Court judge his life is ruined? 😢 aw how cruel, that poor lil guy, wtf is he going to do instead? Retire with more money than like 90% of Americans will ever make?:(
The Supreme Court needs to be completely disassembled and rebuilt with strict term limits and a fair and equal ratio of greedy corrupt fake Christian conservatives to greedy corrupt democrats. We can have freedom through government by the people, or this rampant corruption and a bunch of ultra-wealthy geriatrics wearing adult diapers and showing signs of dementia who only act and work to gain the private approval of those corrupticians above them. This bullshit criminal takeover of the government will be remembered....and those who wouldn’t listen due to closed mindedness will be too. Lobbyists are running America as usual, but at least before this orange whiny bitch hired them, the illusion of a “democratic republic” could still be sold to the braindead masses. This is a plutocratic nation and our votes don’t count.
Now it’s almost as simple as “you either see reality for what it is, OR you think America has a bright future.” Stop seeing thing the way you want them to be and take them as what they ARE!

If you think courts are bipartisan, you're an idiot. They're inherently partisan, they can vote outside of the lines of their party if they so wish but they are definitely partisan at least insofar as you have justices that you can track their voting patterns. If they're conservative, they'll vote that way. If not, they'll vote the other, generally speaking. In his case it's well known he's leaning Republican. It happens. Honestly, blame Justice Kennedy (a known partisan Democrat, by the way) for retiring. He should've held on till 2020 like Ginsberg if he really cared that much about the future of this country but he didn't. Blame him, though. What everyone seems to be be forgetting here is that this is essentially a follow-up on a job interview, not a criminal court hearing. When interviewing a job applicant one often has to go with their gut as to the applicant's body language and demeanor in response to specific questions. Based on that alone, I would reject Kavanaugh and go on to the next applicant.

Also, "without any evidence whatsoever" is a flat-out lie that ignores a good deal of stuff just from Ford alone.
Trying to say "nothing the accuser says can be used as evidence" goes directly against how the American legal system is supposed to work. AND in this case is misogynistic in the extreme; "her word can't be trusted against a MA-an's! Gracious, what do you think got into her little head, I do declare? OBVOUSLY nothing she says can be taken at face value... why? Well, well, because she's accusing a RESPECTED MAN, who has a SHINY FACE, is a good husband and father according to his wife {"Yes. Yes, I do have to say that. Otherwise it gets bad."}, and has retained a checklist of SIXTY-SIX different ladies from his all-male high-school days who attest to his character! Why would ANYONE do that, much less a ... a ... FEMALE??" is what you hear here if you're listening unbiasedly.
--Dave, "unbiasedly", by the way, means you don't automatically assume the man is right, or even give him 'the benefit of the doubt', and you don't scream about how this could ruin his career if it's true either; you treat the accusation(s) seriously and INVESTIGATE. Political theatre is not an investigation; it's a hearing. Kavanaugh asked for a hearing, not an investigation, to start with. Sheesh.

Just like President Clinton couldn't control himself and lied under oath about Monica Lewinsky because he was so angry his private sex life was part of an official investigation. That was a big deal for Kavanaugh 17+ years ago when he was part of Ken Starr's team.
Now Kavanaugh's skeletons are being unearthed and he's angry just like President Clinton was. There are so many other qualified judges to choose from who will rule the same exact way as Kavanaugh.

That smug little smirk on Kavanaugh's face when Graham was having his fit made my blood boil. Nothing about how Kavanaugh acted yesterday said anything positive about his character. He was defiant, smug, disrespectful, agressive - which was a complete flip from his little dry-eyed, sniffling sad-angry speech he started with (where he made clear who he felt was the real victim in all of this). And on top of all that, I don't think he once gave a straight answer to simple yes/no questions asked by any of the Democratic senators. Even if I didn't believe he assaulted Dr. Ford, nothing in his temperment or character that was on display yesterday makes me feel he is in any way, shape, or form fit to serve as a bipartison, reasoned voice on the highest court of the land.

Crying in this manner is actually a form of rage. People keep saying there is no evidence...well there is and it's what led the ABA and Yale Law School to come out and urge for a investigation. And that is his behavior. Best way to explain it is two police show up at a liquor store that just got robbed. When they arrived there is a person walking down the street when the person sees the cops coming toward them they start to run. Cops begin to chase him. Why?There's no proof he did it but his behavior leads cops to believe he may be involved.
The ABA and Yale being pinnacles of law prestige asked for a hearing because based on his behavior there may be something to
g the claims soley based on his testimony.

She can't possibly agree with everything he does and says over the years, and I can imagine him attacking her verbally and emotionally just like he did the Committee. I was 14, it was 1962...High School. Behind a locked door, a female teacher behaved inappropriately toward me, suddenly climbing into my lap, acting seductively....caressing my face (WTF...!!??).Being a shy teenaged girl back then, I thought I had somehow brought on her bizarre behavior, that I was actually the cause. (A common self-blaming response - when a younger person is victimized this way) I clearly remember trying to tell my mother about it, but she didn't believe me; mom was involved in her own marital turmoil. I sensed, pronto that I should simply shut up. I tried a second time, same reaction. I did not speak again of the incident, since I understood even then, the way this information would likely be received. Years later, visiting my former school (I was 35 or so)... I heard: that teacher had committed suicide. Now I look back, I realize she was a deeply troubled woman. All the same I wonder: how many other vulnerable students she may have done this to? (We can never know) I am now 70. And whenever I read or hear of someone coming forward with an accusation of a past sexual assault...and others smugly sneer.. asking, "So, hey... how come you DIDN"T YOU REPORT IT AT THE TIME?" It just makes me want to scream!!

I'm an advocate for treating abuse crimes differently from other criminal behaviour like theft and conspiracy. Abuse comes with victim shame, and that shame is more powerful than anyone who hasn't experienced it can imagine. The norm is for victims to keep quiet for long periods of time, even for life, and to act as if that proves the victim is lying is ludicrous. We wouldn't need to do this if victim blame, the other half of the awful equation, would die, but it hasn't yet and I doubt it will. So different expectations need to be written for victims. This "report it like a mugging" idea is bullshit. Muggings don't rip your entire existence apart and traumatize you in the same way, destroying your future, haunting you. I'm sorry that happened to you. And I'm sorry your mother wouldn't listen.

He does not have the temperament appropriate for a Supreme Court Justice, or a lower court judge for that matter. The U.S Supreme Court is the highest court in the land. It was embarrassment to see him testify. Lashed out, yelled, rude, and was not able to give a direct answer. He put him self in worse situation

BigloBot It’s not Serena Williams whom accused of sexual misconduct here. Your comment is not relevant since it’s not apple to apple situation.

He is being accused of rape by your sick projecting democrat party officials... he has every right to be angry. Have you people ever heard anything about bearing false witness?

    • @nurymoeis

Jordan Munk Angry is normal for that situation, but why not demanded for further investigation to clear his name instead of put him self in worse situation by acted the way he did. Same like you, he played blaming game was not a right thing to do, another accusation which need proofs and could cause another negative aspect to him if not proven. Either Dr Ford or him, if found guilty and lied need to face the consequences of the action.

Honestly. Kavanaugh’s defensive posture when being questioned was so obvious as well. He was curling in in himself. That’s not someone with righteous indignation. That’s a guy who knows he’s guilty.

As a 28 yr old Democrat from South Carolina I feel the need to say Lindsey Graham is sadly the best you can hope for from my state. I've voted for him in the past since he was one of the better, sane Republicans. I feel personally disappointed and humiliated that he behaved like that before the eyes of the world. Mitch McConnell has repeatedly violated 2 centuries of precedent in the United States Senate and he couldn't have cared less. These men do not respect the fundamental ideal of liberal democracy in the western world. The sheer fact that it's necessary for me to say that about my own country... THE f***ing UNITED STATES! -- is beyond demoralizing.
