Layton changed my entire fragrance world. I had about 60 designer fragrences. All kinds of different scents for all kinds of different occasions. After I got Lauton I was in love, and blind bought Layton Exclusif. That blew my mind completely, and changed my perspective in a unimaginable way. Now I've been selling of most of my designer fragrances. Wearing Azzaro, Paco Rabanne, Hugo Boss etc just doesn't intrigue me at all anymore. Of the 60+ I have an loved, only 25 or so is even tempting to use again. This is the start of the next chapter in my fragrance journey. I can't wait to see where it takes me. I'll be a PDM and The Laytons especially. It was my gateway fragrance. I can't recommend the two enough.❤❤
Perfumes from designers where the first priority is clothes, jewelry, luggage, etc. cannot be good. I had to learn to understand that too. Im done with that. From now on it's niche only for me, where their first priority is fragrances, and ONLY fragrances. I wasted so much time and money with those garbage designer frags man.
I smelled a small sample of Layton. IMMEDIATELY put it on my shelf to buy a bigger sample. IMMEDIATE LOVE. I accidentally bought 2 5ml samples. Used BOTH of them up during the course of Fall/Winter. Prowled Jomashop until the big bottle was available for discount. Bought it, now I love it even more. The perfect love story. 15 frags in and Layton is still #1
I have had well over 120 fragrances in my collection and my # 1 is Layton.Happy to see you give it a 9 but it wouldn't have mattered if you gave it a 3, beauty is always in the eyes of the beholder and I will always love Layton.
Yep I have Bleu de Chanel EDT, MontBlanc Explorer and MB Individual and a bunch of YSL's. YSL Y edt and YSL Y EDP ( maybe my second favorite fragrance in my whole collection) YSL Y Parfum, YSL L'homme and YSL La nuit de l"homme.

It took me 3 tries to finally fall in love with this masterpiece! At first I didn’t understand the hype. But I tried it in the winter ON MY SKIN and the dry down blew me away!
You know when people say I have so many bottles but this is The One. Man, Layton stole my heart. Such a fire juice. Every time I smell it, I get weak. If I can keep one bottle out of my collection, this would be it. Such a versatile and beautiful fragrance. I never get tired of it. Just the whiffs keeps my mind fresh and the mood uplifting.

I’m actually wearing Layton tonight for a Christmas party! My bottle is from 2018 and can’t speak about the newer batches but mine is sooooo dense and rich!
The new bottles are richer with maceration. I have a 2023 batch to which I allowed it to age 5 months. It’s last over 14 hours with a beautiful/rich dry down
@@unknown_matter1317yep, I’ve got a 2023 bottle and I was fuming with the richness and density that I remembered but I can safely say that after leaving it in my wardrobe for a few months it has improved. Bought the discovery set 1 year ago. Hated Layton when I first smelled it. After buying/smelling different perfumes through-out the year I've went back to it and think it's a 10/10 and really appreciate it. Will be buying a bottle soon.
Oriental isn't offensive to or for an object, only as a lable for people. In fact, oriental probably fits for fragrance better than it does than for most things that's not a blanket or a rug. As you stated raw, original, as old as the Earth natural existing materials. As some stated about themselves, I'm part Korean, growing up my Father often would correct the differences when used out of context, especially toward people. Anyway, I'm very interested in PDM fragrances, hopefully will pick up a sample set before spending big. I have Suma Oriental Une Nuit it's a really nice scent.
It’s about time you reviewed this fragrance. I’m surprised you didn’t have the same reaction you had to Herod or even Carlisle. When I first smelled a 1ml sample of Layton, I instantly knew it was full bottle worthy. I’m in love with that scent and I know that NO ONE smells like me EVER. 3 sprays 4 sprays max if I spray it early in the day. It’s definitely my fall/winter superstar fragrance when I want to stand out from my signature scent (molecule 01…..which ppl smell on me but I spray 8-9 times). But I love Layton. My gf thinks it smells like a grandma, which we now affectionately nickname “Grandma”, but it makes me very happy and i proudly wear it on cold days.
Thanks so much for including the chemical names in the upper corner! It gives me the option to do more research and adds to Aaron's credibility which is already very high.
In my memory, I believe you ranked Layton Exclusif as a 10 out of 10 or at least super high. It seemed like you loved the addition of smokier and perhaps more mature/sexy notes. Love this review, and I totally agree with you on the addictive factor. I don't like the price of PDM, and I know there are great clones, but there's something very addicting about these fragrances for sure. Thanks as always for your explanation!

parfum de marly and initio are sister companies, was owned by a couple and then sold out... both houses diluted their perfume concentrations before getting bought out too... sad, my new bottle of side effect isnt same as the old bottle i have =/, looks like the sample vial you have is the newer batches with lower perfume % concentration...
Although skin is definitely better to test a fragrance on, most people also wear fragrance on their clothes. So a tester strip might show a bit of what the fragrance would smell on clothing.
I love the passion you put in your videos. You seem like an actual professional. Your not just good at smelling fragrances for RUclips, you have serious raw talent.
Funny how I always overlooked this house until one day, while I was helping my picky older brother to buy his new signature scent. We spend hours bouncing around between different niche brands until the sell assistant insisted we should try some of Perfums De Marly. Truth be told my brother who had never bought a niche, pricey fragrance ended up buying 200ml bottle of this beautiful Layton. We were so impressed about the brand and now it’s become one of my top three niche perfume brands.
You described PDM in general exactly how I see them: they're designer scents in the way that they're built for mass appeal, but done in a niche way that stands out. They're my favorite house :)
I disagree. Carlisle and Kalan are nothing like designer frags. Even herod haltane and godolphin imho are very unique. Sure haltane is their oud take, golophin is leathery and herod is arguably like a TF TV but tbh oud leather and TF arent exactly designer DNAs
a Korean American told me it was offensive when we use the word Oriental for PEOPLE, but perfectly normal when talking about things- e.g. furniture, decor, or cuisine
I am with you (as a painter) about raw materials, and I love fragrances. Theres something about the science of the senses. Appreciate your review on Layton, trying to see if this is one my husband would like. Merry Christmas ❤🎄🙏
Aaron!! I really appreciated that bit at the end where you described for us the differences of corporate perfumery and how they use standardized amounts of things and the purpose is less for art and more for profit! Also, I'm really hoping to buy one of your frags soon but being from America I need to figure that all out. Love you!
Layton is a beautiful fragrance that doesn't have massive projection but it does have that signature creaminess that a lot of pdm fragrances have. Another great review Aaron Merry Christmas
Unfortunately I also think that Layton has been reformulated because I get about 4-5 hours longevity. I tested the fragrance on a sample before which got me about 8-9 hours longevity. Nevertheless I love this fragrance and use it as my winter signature scent. Thank you for your honest opinion. Love your content. Best wishes from Austria!
Smelling them all in this sample set, I got to pick up the similarities via the raw materials (such as the vanilla) whereas with my Tom Ford sample set I am smelling a completely different style of perfumery from anything else iv ever smelled. What I'm getting at is, sample sets such as these are an opportunity to broaden ones understanding of perfumery thus understanding the brand or how the individual perfumer thinks.
This fragrance is probably my all time favorite - as a hobbyist perfumer it showed me the value of Norlimbanol which is used (in extreme excess haha) here
Aaron thank you for a great review as always 🙏. I would like you to review my favourite fragrance Nishane: Africa-Olifant. I wonder what you think about it. Stay safe and well.
I really really enjoy you speaking to finding a good musk accord and identifying Musks in a formula. I just started DIY perfumery and wish I could learn from you more. I couldn’t believe when I started a formula is 60-70% just musks, iso E and hedione but I guess it is.
Aaron you should try to get a sample of the new side effect... Whatever they did in reducing the oil percantage, you will notice that side effect got a lot weaker and less rich. It's a shame... What I also want to suggest you, is to test Paragon! It's a crazy unique scent 👍🏾
So glad to hear your perspective and not caving to cancel culture. Didn't think I could like your fragrance reviews anymore than I already did, but here we are 🤌. Great review and info as always
With its recent boom in popularity Layton has been getting a lot of hate. To me it’s still such a beautiful fragrance and one of the best I’ve smelled. I’ll always be a big fan of this one.
Test strips are good to preselect fragrances for further testing. I have limited space on my skin, so when I go to the perfumery, I test a lot of fragrances on test strips, then I spray the four I like the most on my arms and go on a walk, maybe have a coffee, go shopping elsewhere, regularly smelling on my arms to see how each of them develops over time. Then before I drive home I go back to the perfumery and ask for samples of the two most convincing fragrances to be able to give them both a few full wearings before I purchase a bottle.
I’d really like to see you try an odd one: Montale Oud Edition. Very oriental and its a beautiful scent in my opinion, hands down my favourite Montale, really interested to see what you think of it!
Merry Christmas 🎅 arron to you and your family and team best wishes from Cheshire keep up the great work you do and fabulous reviews will you do amounge jubilation 40 review pls
I was so underwhelmed when I first smelled it, I only bought a sample because of the hype, never read the notes or anything really. And then every few weeks I started spraying it on my skin and smelling it, I really like the green apple note in it, it so nice and alluring, but I just can't seem to love the scent itself.
Talking about changing your view of a scent. My likes and dislikes change regularly. Sometimes day to day. It depends on many things I feel from your mood, the time of day, the weather even atmospherics. How may of us have thought, oh I don't like that much, only to fall In love with it later?
If you like it then that’s all that matters. I received a sample of this from Fragrance Samples UK and I can confidently say I like it. At first I thought it was a bit too sweet for what I usually wear but the performance is great and the more I wore it the more I liked it. Not sure if id get a full bottle as I have others in mind that I like more but I’d say a solid 7.5/10.
I've got that at the first wearings... For 1 h or more that was all... Now after some weeks and spraying more from the bottle I get the apple cinnamon more with some fresh nuances
When I first sampled it was a pre-reform and it had a brutal menthol note. I bought a bottle this year which I believe is a 22' batch and there is ZERO menthol

@@chusett they have a couple that aren't mass appeal scents (Layton Exclusif comes to mind too), but the scents they're most known for are
Would love more reviews of PdM fragrances! Thank you for this one, Aaron.
a Korean American told me it was offensive when we use the word Oriental for PEOPLE, but perfectly normal when talking about things- e.g. furniture, decor, or cuisine
I came here for the review and stayed for the master class
I have the first formula of Layton......I have 8 Parfums De Marly...Good stuff!!!
Have you tested parfum de marly ojan? With Christmas here it would be perfect for a Christmas video.
You look radiant, I am happy for you ❤ I appreciate these reviews that take the bs out of perfumery. Happy new year!
I can imagine you're good at drawing, would love to see some of your work!
Smelling them all in this sample set, I got to pick up the similarities via the raw materials (such as the vanilla) whereas with my Tom Ford sample set I am smelling a completely different style of perfumery from anything else iv ever smelled. What I'm getting at is, sample sets such as these are an opportunity to broaden ones understanding of perfumery thus understanding the brand or how the individual perfumer thinks.
i need you to test Blonde Amber by Clive Christian. curious to see how you like it
Wore this today. It's a BANGER!
Glad you are using the term “oriental fragrance”. Thats exactly what it is. Ignore the trolls.
I think there are more people offended at the idea that some are offended, than there are people who are actually offended.
Spot on
So glad to hear your perspective and not caving to cancel culture.
Layton is one of the best. Love it!
ive worn layton several times. always smells like cough syrup going on but dries down really dark blue
I think you missed your calling as a narrator. You have a very soothing and comforting "voice"
The day has come i cant believe it
Layton is not my style, but I can't deny how brilliantly constructed it is and well priced.
I’d really like to see you try an odd one: Montale Oud Edition. Very oriental and its a beautiful scent in my opinion, hands down my favourite Montale, really interested to see what you think of it!
I love this fragrance. Wish I experienced it when everyone was saying it was beast mode.
One of my favs! I really like the exclusif version!
I have 2 amazing of Layton. Very very good. I wonder If I should get the original especially after the reformulation...
THANK YOU! for standing up to this cancel BS and having a philosophical backbone and stance. Don't bow down to these weak minded people.
Aaron, please review Apres L'Amour by Thomas Kosmala. Im having trouble deciding what to think about it. Your professional thoughts would help a lot.
@@thebizness5596 I don't smell sweet, I smell straight musk. Br540 is sweet
Wow you are just checking out this beautiful fragrance? It is so fucking good love it
Would enjoy to see a comparison of the whole line or at least the heavy hitters from PDM.
Great video! Glad you’re unapologetically you.
What in Layton gives the menthol note. Seems some people don't smell it in Layton, bt it's pretty much all I get 🤷♂️
Yes, a huge menthol note in it
I've got that at the first wearings...
@@derrickarmour Mine is an old batch and the menthol is very strong and lasts for hours.
Aha, that's interesting @@derrickarmour
😮 thanks very useful. I have learnt a lots
I've been waiting for this breakdown....
Merry Christmas, Aaron
Orientica Amber Exclusif Bleu by Al Haramain blows this Layton out of the water! Richer smell. Longer lasting. Sweeter. Delicious.
