- Before we can really get going on getting the chassis prepped for Paint we NEED to free up some shop space, get a bigger air compressor, and set everything up. So we can finally start tossing some parts back onto the FD RX7 to get it to start to look like a car again. I will say this will be the Cleanest FD RX7 out there after we are done with it.

Rx7 is looking minty, cant wait to hear the braps
im so staked to hear this thing driving around and on the dyno. things going to scream!
It's like watching a whole new car get built
Everything so fresh and so clean 🧼
I dream of doing this to my FD, but I don't have the space, money, or time for a personal project this big and I can't imagine how much it would cost to pay someone to do it. Great work, Im excited to see how it turns out in the end.
It’s def a bit time consuming to do but the end result will be so worth it 🔥🙌 once it’s all said and done I’ll do a tally on it all
Kill Mat is the shit!! Used it when my son and I rebuilt myself dad's 1974 AMX Javalin.!!
How well did it work for ya’ll? 🙌
My head hurts just thinking about all the bolts and hardware lying around. The paint turned out so good! Looking forward to the booth! Cheers!
Some of its guesses and check for the bolts 😅
Gotta send love to the techron, I recommend it to my customers all the time
They the best 🥳🫶
Big air compressor club!!!!! (Make sure you get a VERY nice moisture seperator, especially since you live in a area that is not a desert.)
I have one in there now so we shall see how well it does. Can snag another if needed 😅
@@Smeedia I run a commercial duty moisture seperator in California, and it can still get misty on foggy days. I spent about 400 USD on mine I think (the seperator)
Sometimes that water in the compressor will help clean when using a blower. Haha but ya in Oregon we get some water in the tanks at the daily. We drain our water traps daily.
@@user-nf3oq2ge3g water in the paint is thousands of dollars destroyed quickly.
giving the fd the ol devin niemela spec i see. LOVE these types of builds.
Kilmat is really good and pretty competitively priced! You're going to notice a difference for sure with that much coverage!!
Glad to hear 🎉 I read some good stuff on it 🥳
FWIW I’d definitely add some sound deadening to the interior bulkhead to replace the lost foam on the rubber blanket.
I didn’t on my build and ended up stripping the whole interior to fully deaden it.
Loving the Aspen white, so much satisfaction from doing all your own spray work, it’s looking so sharp.💪💪
Thank you 🥳 pretty happy with the results so far from painting! Going to toss some more onto the wire wall to help insulate a bit better 🔥
The level of attention is next level
She getting closer and closer 🥳🫡
Rx 7 is looking great glad you didn’t get hurt from the electric…
That was a shocking experience 😂
It's coming to life!!!
It’s taking a shape 😂😅
@@Smeedia it's gonna be one of the best looking rx7s, no doubt. I'm in love with the color. I still think you should go white wheels, imo.
My absoulte dream in video form. Keep it up
🫶🫶🫶
Let’s gooo this is gonna be so sick
Can’t wait to see this thing all one color 🔥🙌
🔮 the cosmos have spoken to me. I see a 3 rotor or even 4 rotor in the horizon one day! 👌🏽🤔
One day in the distant future 😅
I love this build so much, the paint vids are awesome!
Im hoping to be painting the body by the end of the week 🥳
That car looks so minty fresh. You’re crushing it
Super happy with how it is coming out 🔥
Yooo! Great work with the paint! Even tho it's a shell. She looks 🔥.
its so crispy and cleannnnn right now!
Always a good day when smeedia uploads!!

That electrical! My clothes dryer in my current place was miswired when I moved in. Luckily, I knew shit wasn't legit on anything and checked it with my multimeter first. Ended up having to wire a 4 prong plug cable like a 3 prong to get the neutrals right.
I figured the plug was wired right, ohhhh boy was I wrong 😂
Ahhhhhhh!!!!!! Big sparky!!!! I had a creeping feeling of that happening regardless of the setup. Almost a right of passage. Shop is looking super pro pro at this point. Keep it up my guy. 👍🤘👍🤘👍
lol it was only a little spark 😅 luckily did not kill the motor 😅
I'm glad you went ahead with the sound deadening!! Excellent choice with the KilMat, it's a great value product. A really good way to know where it is effective to apply is to actually tap on the metal and listen to house tinny and echoy it sounds, your doors, roof and spare tire will be the biggest offenders but doing your wheel wells will absorb a bit of tire noise as well. It's also a great idea to apply it to insides of your plastic trim and interior pieces, it keeps the rattles down like crazy. If you can get some on your firewall too, you definitely won't regret it.
Obhhh the roof is a good idea! Already planing on doing the doors and tire well later. But did not even think about the roof!
@@Smeedia I did it on my Crosstrek, the thing went from a tin can sounding roof to a super solid luxury roof. I also put it in between the reinforcement braces in the metal so as to stop metals from rattling between eachother, but the best way to know you've done a good job is give it a firm knock with your fist, you'll hear which areas need more of it or not. Think of it like a cymbal on a drum set, that's sound travelling throught he metal into your ears and into your seat. Unnecessary sound that is!
The roof is game changing!!! Did that on my first couple of cars and the sound of rain hitting it made me smile every time. SIGNIFICANTLY BETTER SOUNDING @Smeedia
15:36 I know you probably know this but always always drain out the compressor tank even with the moisture filter. Just saying from a guy who might have forgotten to do so spraying primer and got moisture boogie splats on my body work. This thing is gonna turn out amazing, best of luck and I think you got this paint base clear on solid white. P.s. the dark carpet on that clean white paint looks soooo dope.
Right?! The contrast between the carpet and the white is just 👌 the compressors get drained daily The smaller one built up a ton of water 💦
You did a great job painting the interior/engine bay. I think the color choice will looked clean after especially if you put a big carbon wing out back. Nothing beats a clean white rx7 in the looks department.
wing will be color matched with a carbon blade, should accent it nicely 🥳
Nice engine bay & interior paint. You should have replaced the insulation foam on the dash mat to help the heat out under the dash. You will definitely feel that heat when your tracking or dragging it down the strip.
Big moves! Love the RX 7 build
thing is coming out suuuuuper crispy 😍
ahaha that scream during the spark got me laugh lol
It was a shocking experience 😂
You could replace the ruined foam with some Jute from Second Skin Car audio. Should help insulate and reduce sound penetration.
I’ll check it out! Never heard of that before 😅 any addition we can get will be 💪
Painting in that manner may cause color defferences or "paint flash" please try to paint all panels at same time in same batch. It will greatly reduces chances of bumpers and body being 2 different whites. It can turn out fine by doing them seperate you just may have to do paint matchy stuff.
That said. Amazing video as always!! You are doing amazing!! And i cant wait until the car is done!! Seeing as you are doing white its not too likely to be a massively noticable change (i am color blind so i have never seen the suttle differences, but have had them many a time) doing it all at once also helps keep spray patterns and such a bit more consistant. Hope it goes well!
with the lack of space and a full booth ill have to do them all off the car. But should be able to do everything in one single day to keep temp and humidity relatively same same on everything 🙏
freaken awsome!!! I love this project!!!!!! you have insipired me i have been looking for a FD for awhile now.
Yesss!!! I see em pop up on market place quite often 👀👀
My buddys compressor has some copper tube in loops to cool the air before it hits the water separater. Seems to work well here in Washington. He got the tube at ace hardware i believe.
I’ve seen some of those, ideally I’d like to set mine up like that eventually 🙌
New to your channel and I love it. Couldn't figure out why you seemed so familiar and then realized your doppelganger is wheezywaiter.
Lmao had to look him up 😂💀
@Smeedia do you see it tho? You guys have similar mannerisms. Anyways, you have a lot of quality content from what I've seen so far. It looks like you've put a ton of hours into the rx7, but at the same time I'm impressed with how much you're accomplishing per video. Good luck and I look forward to watching!
@@chucko83I try not to upload videos unless we make a good chunk of work done on em. 🫡
I’ll have to check out some of his videos but I can see it 😂😅
Brrrrrraaaaaappppp, there we go bros nice work❤❤
Can’t wait to hear the braps again 🔥🙌

Yo man super late to this one. Been busy, but love to see all the progress man. The paint is gonna turn out killer. Just take your time, you should never rush. Kinda like when you decided to clean the carpet by hand instead of power washing it. Gonna have to get LevRack to sponsor you after you take that thing to Sema.
You are busting ass bro. Here's a little secret to get all the moisture out of your air lines for painting.
Grab some 3/8" cooper coil tubing from the hardware store and coil up into a 5 gallon bucket with both end sticking out the bucket. Run a short air line from the compressor to that coil in the bucket with worm clamps. Run another short airline from the other side of the coil to your moisture filters. From the filter, just run your regular hose to you paint gun. When you're ready to paint, fill that bucket with water and lots of ice. This will cause any moisture to condense into water droplets so your filters will catch ALL of it. This little trick works fantastic and saves on buying those expensive paint booth filters. You wont believe how much water your filter will collect so make sure you drain them as you paint.
I may give that a try, I also found some HPDE line to run with drains to capture moisture as well 💪 I’ll get something long term worked out for a better water trap system here soon 🔥
I'm sad and happy your moving to Spokane hella far
First! Love how that Aspen White pops!😎
The white looks absolutely killer on that thing 🔥🙌
yes 220 would suck, ive been lit up by 480 once. working on a commercial parking garage for all the parking lot lighting. had to pull out an old negative wire to pull in a new circuit along with a replacement neutral for the wire we used as a runner. well the ground circuit was supposed to be tested as off, wasn't.. i was standing on the edge of a pickup truck bead, with my back drenched in sweat against a sprinkler system pipe along the ceiling, as the4 junction box was on the parking garage ceiling. well my back grounded me to the earth, and y bare fingers went to unsplice the neutrals. while still full of 480... not fun hahaha felt like doing back flips after that.
I'd love to see a full resto of a GD. This isn't happening to this level that I have found on them yet.
the GM6 Coupe I have is next up for this type of treatment 👀
@@Smeedia You sir just made my day! Congrats on 141K! gonna be 200k before you know it!
@@Nick_Spencerthanks Nick 🥳🙌
If you have a bag of hardware that goes to a specific part just tape the hardware to the part! Get some $2 masking tape and itll hold on there!
I sent all hardware out to be re plated 😅 so a lot will be guess and check lol
@@Smeedia gotcha gotcha, maybe for the future organizing haha
I'm curious to see how that booth will fit in the shop. Mr. McFarland just had a video painting a 80's gbody (probably a wider/longer car) and it barely fit in it
I’m curious to see how it’ll fit, measurement wise it’ll be tight but should be better than painting it on the rack 🫡
I'm hoping for the best. I've been here for the Subarus for a long time, But this rx7 build is clean. I would say this resto is pushing your abilities to the next level.
MY LONG LOST TUNNA BROTHA, Smeed bro you should of Redbone those crusty looking foams on that FD'S HVAC box, I usually just buy the best weather stripping I can find at lows or home depot, even the local hardware store. Buy the stuff with the glue strip on one side and just match thickness. Comes in a few sizes like 1/2 inch,3/8 ect,, ect,,. But normally you can find something that was better then what the factory used which is kinda rare in the aftermarket but not in this department. Alright later my mang.. and keep up the sweet sweet cont.
Now you can get big boy pneumatic tools!!!!! If you find yourself charging the tank just to make a 1/2 drive go "whirrrrr" you are just a regular man. Nothing weird at all.
lol I’ll keep that in mind 😅 that 60 gallon tank opens up so many more possibilities
U messed up with the FaceTime. Now we want to see your Dad😂
Lmao I’ll bring him around one of these days 😂
😎👍🏻👍🏻
Hell yeah!!!!!!!!
TOMMMM 🥳🥳🥳
Green is for ground :p
It is 😅 in the box it was wired to power 😅
Love how meticulous you are Tanner this is gonna look awesome when done.
You can’t fool an electrician 😂
What you mean? 👀⚡️
@@Smeedia nothing, love the builds
What is the purpose of those floor plugs? Or I guess, why were the holes cut in the first place, if they just have to be plugged?
I wanna say they’re drain plugs in case the car fills with water. But there are other plugs for that. Maybe relic holes from when they stamped the steel
Niiiiice
🙌🙌🙌
Hey! What will you be using to cover the OEM interior holes that were taped?
I have a generic plug kit I bought for anything that needs a plug 🫡
18:47 who'd you shoot? I heard that hit marker lol
if i want i want to get the grimspeed upipe but or plm with ewg later on, would i need the 3 bolt or 2 bolt and if it’ll fit the killer b holy header 2 bolt design with my 07 sti?
Why not heat shield on the fire wall?
Dont know you could delete the AC, down here in the dirty south, swamp ass would make it miserable to drive lol.
Oh I’m aware, when I lived in Louisiana AC was a must 😅
hey bro one more question i live in alaska and obviously it snows here and our summer is around like 80 degrees max but mostly snows and it gets as cold as -25, i’m thinking about ordering killer b equal length exhaust manifold but not sure if i should ceramic coat it or wrap it
Both ❤ never can hurt, he's covered this before
Coat it, the wrap works well but with Subarus manifolds being below the engine they can soak up some oil if you have a leaky engine 🙏
@@kjones7270 sorry but what video did he cover it in?
@@Smeedia sweet thanks brotha!
Does it brap brap already?
It could technically 😅
208/220/single phase there is no 2 phase...........................2 hots a neutral and a ground is still single phase..........there is 3 phase
I just hook up the wires and make it turn on 😅
