This saved me! My truck wasn't ideling poorly but was having a delay during acceleration. Cleaned throttle body, changed spark plugs, and still had the problem. Now it's gone! Subscribed for life! Thanks buddy!
I'm a mobile mechanic in Orange County and my $700 autel scan tool said selected function not supported by ECU, your information saved me, thank you so much, I had to try it a couple times to fix my customers low idle. But eventually it stabilized
MY 2020 Tacoma idled bad (up and down from day one) I did not disconect my battery but followed the directions and now the idle is stable, Thanks again.
After the dealer advised me it would cost $750 to change the plugs on my 2015 Tacoma TRD Sport, with 50K miles, I decided to it myself--an hour, with battery disconnected, later job completed! Started right up --idle high and not steady. Applied Reset tip from your video---perfect! thx.
Thank you so much I disconnected my battery last night and this morning noticed a rough idle when stopping at red lights. You’re the best Tacoma RUclipsr out there. You saved me a trip to the stealership
This video cured my whoahs. After cleaning the throttle body and replacing Spark Plugs and valve cover gasket I was experiencing high idle in park (2000 rpms). Once I followed these reset steps I was golden. The idle came way down and The truck runs like new(165,000 miles). Smooth at idle and the shift points transition seamlessly. Thanks for this tip!!!
My 05 taco got a new battery and had a rough idle and was about 450 to 500 rpm’s tried your fix and first time runs like new! At 700 to 750 , thanks for the cool tip !👍🏻
Worked for me! 2009 Tacoma... Had battery disconnected to remove seats... Went through the process twice, now idles exactly where its supposed to... Thanks!!
Good stuff. Disconnected battery on 2011 Tacoma for 4 hours for engine bay cleaning. Idled rough at 450-500 upon reconnection. Drove around for 10 mins, started and stopped the engine a few times, and the computer seemed to recalibrate to normal 800-1000 idle speed. Will use this trick if issues reappear
I had the same issue with high idle on my 06 Tacoma after disconnecting my battery and watching your video I tried it and it worked. Thanks again. That’s the best thing I tried on my truck before spending couple hundred dollars and a headache that comes with it. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
This is great... thanks. I just installed new seat covers on my 07 tacoma 4.0 v6 (255,605.0 miles)normally runs flawless.... I had disconnected the battery, as I find it easier to remove the front bucket seats while changing seat covers... After completing the task, I noticed very low idle.. almost stalling when stopping while in drive.. this cured it. Thanks 😊
changed my washer fluid pump... hooked my negative post back up, went to town and noticed every stop light, it felt as if it would shut off... RUclips it and bam fixed it... THANKS
I just installed the AlphaRex Crystall Luuxx LED Headlights... I tapped into the inside of the Cabin area so as to use the Ignition Fuse bank. The signals would not blink right , until I started it up Oh 2007 Tacoma X-Runner by the way .,,,It fixed the Blinking issue , but it has an idle now like it's 15 degrees , higher than normal idle . I haven't left the Driveway yet , so I'm gonna use this Fix (hopefully ) that you demoed here ... Thanks.
I like the way you explain everything so I got a question for you how can I adapt some fog lights to my Tacoma 2011 it does have the holes for the lights but doesn’t have the pre connection
This relearn process worked great after new battery install, Throttle Body & MAF sensor cleaning, and new spark plugs. 2006 4Runner SE. RPMs settled in at 650.
Holy crap it worked!!. I replaced my battery yesterday, truck was idling at 450rpm cold then rose up to 650 when warm. I just did this trick, now my idle is back at 1030ish-1044rpm... (I have a digital gauge)... no more rough idle. THANK YOU! INSTANT SUBSCRIBE!!.
Thanks for the video. I have a 2000 Tacoma 4x4 3.4 V6 manual. My check engine light came on and the diagnosis was a throttle position sensor issue. Will this technique work for my truck?
This worked for my '05 Taco this morning. It was running rough for weeks after I disconnected the battery and even before that. Idling at 450, it vibrated the cab and was noticeable through the steering. This quick fix restored the idle quality. It now idles smoothly at 650 rpm. Thanks for sharing!
I have the same problem. Took battery cable off trying to isolate an alarm issue. But I have nearly your same stats. Low rpm 400 500 +/- shakes and died once. However, I tried this a few times and doesn't seem to have an affect. Dod you do anything different than what was in the video? Thanks. '05 Taco v6.
@@Kaneguy ok thanks for the quick reply. I found another Toyota video that addressed a similar thing. Not taco but still Toyota. Seemed to have more of an affect for me. 1. Cycle to the on position and off twice. On the 3rd time start the engine. 2. Set brake & put into drive. 3. Let run for 5-7 min. 4. Put in park and turn off. 5. Turn on again like normal, should have 'learned' where it should be. For what it's worth. Thanks again!
I did disconnect my battery to clean the terminals of the battery as suggested by my Toyota dealer. No comment from them about idle problems after. Strange though the truck ran well after several starts until it suddenly started but then as if fuel starved shut down. The next day it started fine and kept running though a bit rough. I'll try the reset 'truck's and hope it works,
Sweet video, man! Is this the “Idle Relearn” process? I have to replace my pedal position sensor, and the idle needs to be “relearned” is what the parts guy told me.
Normal idle after warmed up is 850 rpm without any accessories on for the v6. Great tutorial, always wondered why it always stalls after disconnecting battery on initial startup. Good looking out,👍👍
Had a crank/no start and.had the battery disconnected while I was troubleshooting. Ended up replacing the fuel pump and had a rough idle at start up. Did this trick and it was purring like a kitten in less than 2 minutes. Until the next time these poorly designed pumps burn up again. Hope mine is in the recall! That topic for another time. Anyway, great tip and great video. Keep 'em coming!
Today I started my truck only to have it instantly stall, over and over again and the throttle body was making a whining noise and being held shut when the ignition was on. I tried this method and was blown away when it fixed my problem. I also had codes P0121, P0123 and P2135. Thanks!
Man my truck been idling whacky for months after numerous battery disconnections while piece mealing a sound system together as I got money could never figure it out and here I was thinking I was once again going to have to replace spark plugs. Turns out the issue was probably this all along. Running 550 to 750 depending how hard I've been pushing it at idle while cut off before secondary cat manifold no more random engine jumps and I'm a happy camper again
My son and I just changed out the plastic pipe that goes from the water pump along the engine block to the rubber hoses to the heater core with a 40 dollar metal one. I could see a mechanic trouble shooting saying oh "you need a new water pump ". We learned these plastic pipes disintegrate and leak at the pump. To get to the bolts the intake had to come out and of course disconnect battery. Everything went well( 3hr job)untill restart, tried the reset computer no go. What did work was clean the throttle body(1hr. job) and then she idled like normal. My 3rd Tacoma, 450k, 390k, I'm at 270k on this one , runs beautifully.
Dude what is wrong with you how can you be this smart and not a mechanic! Goddamn this fixed everything after new plugs and a new thermostat and water pump!!! I didn't even think about the fact I had my battery disconnected!!

Thanks! I cleaned the throttle body in my 2010 4L 6spf taco and this helped resolve the weird idling after the clean. Truck drove fine and shifting through the gears was fine but as soon as I was in neutral at a stop it would bounce between 1-2k rpm After doing this at temp the idle is back at 600 in neutral. Hey I just changed my thermostat and it took longer than it should because I ended up needing a new radiator plug as mine somehow lost its o ring. Its not doing the vibrating everytime its idling but when it does its idling lower than the norm (1k RPMs) and will be ar around .5k RPMs. I also notice a rattling at times
my 2006 tacoma insista on idling at about 500-600 rpm when warm. This causes vibration. When cold it idles just above 1000. When warm and still moving with clutch fully depressed it idles at 900-1000 but once i come to a stop it slowly drops back down to 500 rpm. WHY??
Hi, I have a 2006 Toyota Tacoma 4 cylinder 2.7 l four-wheel drive. I had the battery disconnected because I was replacing the fuel pump. Afterwards, the truck started right up, but I get a low, rough idle. About 500 RPM. I tried the trick three times, but it didn't work. Any other ideas?
Keep on doing it. I tried it over 10 times to lower my idle on my 13 tacoma 2.7L. I changed spark plugs and cleaned the throttle and the air flow sensor.
Hi, a few weeks ago I shared battery using jumper wires, the RPMs were affected when I was backing home. Could this process help me to reset it? Thank you!

my 2006 tacoma insista on idling at about 500-600 rpm when warm. This causes vibration. When cold it idles just above 1000. When warm and still moving with clutch fully depressed it idles at 900-1000 but once i come to a stop it slowly drops back down to 500 rpm. WHY??
I had a similar issue... it was much simpler in my case. A simple vacuum leak in the Catch Can tubing.
Second time I’ve done this and it works!
Worked perfectly on my 06 4Runner. Thanks!
Awesome!
Thanks so much!
Thank you!
It won't hurt anything so it's worth a shot.
Omg,,,
Soo simple.....wow....I'm spechless...it is so beautiful...Did I said it's so simple...lol
I thank you for the info..got it done by 3:15 am....Love from Miami..
Thanks, it worked on 1995 t100
Awesome!
Thax had battery replaced will try it
Huge help. thank you
Glad it helped!
Tacoma went from litterally shaking on start up to running smooth thx
Might have a bad tps sensor on my 2013 tacoma 4.0. At idle with the engine off it shows 20% throttle. At wot it shows 80% is this normal
Nice forgot to ask you, this procedure works on a 2006 with a 2.7 engine?
It seems to be the same process on multiple Toyota vehicles so I would guess so.
