This is an AWESOME video of how this miserable and seemingly terrifying job can be done "easily" and affordably (the most important items needed are patience and lots of time). Yeah, the garages and dealers are NOT interested in doing this job because it must be done at a specific temperature (requiring time for engine cool down, etc) and some interest in wanting to do the job right... all too often the shop will just SAY they did this job when they did not. Even worse, they do the job WRONG (by checking the fluid level when it is too hot (and "heat expanded"), letting the fluid out and thereby starving the tranny of needed fluid, and then telling the customer the fluid is at the correct level (and maybe even believing it), but having actually made the situation WORSE and more likely leading to tranny damage. Thank you, Faye, for doing the OUTSTANDING job you've shared with us all here in your video!
So detailed and well put together. It's a joy to watch someone that has attention to detail 👍. Keep up the good work, I've really appreciate your help . Going to change the transmission fluid on my SC430 soon so thus guide has been invaluable
As a licenced mechanic I can saw awesome job. Great video as can clearly see what & where you are doing, you do not go too fast, clean tools.... And good explaining. You are also cool!😊 The chicken had me ROFL 😂.
I really like how you included the torque specifications as well as detailed the need for the correct crush washers, both are very important. I also agree that you should use Toyota OEM trans fluid. Very informative video!
I like people who are competent in their technical ability, I like people who are enthusiastic about what they do, and I like fluffy chickens. End result.. I like this channel!
I have to say, you are incredibly good at this. Not only in the mechanical skills but also in your presentation. Extremely personable and it’s obvious you truly enjoy teaching. Two more observations: 1) you showed me how to get this done, so I’m going to confidently perform this on my 02 Tacoma. 2) You have an on-air personality much too good for RUclips. If you enjoy it and you earn a good living here - then great! But I could really see you on broadcast television with your engaging personality and communication skills. I don’t know if you’ve watched This Old House (or similar “how to” program) but that’s how I see your talents best used in either automotive maintenance or another area you love and enjoy. Well done.
Another excellent video that never goes out of time. Unfortunately, as much as I wanted to do it myself I don't have any of the tools and equipment. I had to cave and take it to the Toyota dealer here in Japan. I actually watched them change the fluid but they hooked it up to a fancy machine. They also used Castrol Transmax Pro fluid. I was a bit surprised how they did it. I am more pissed that they did away with the dipstick, so we can't even easily check the level or the color of the fluid anymore. :(
Good morning, Faye! I recently saw your Working From Home videos on MotorTrend which I enjoyed. You mentioned working at an Audi/VW shop. My love of cars began after high school (1981), when I apprenticed/worked for a friend of the family that ran a VW/Subaru repair shop. I couldn't have asked for a better teacher; he was always patient (which is rare these days), taught me customer service, always do my best and work ethic. I inherited the car bug from my dad and now my son has it. We help each other out trying to figure out automotive mysteries.
I agree that she is an awesome teacher. I was a U.S. Army helicopter instructor pilot for more than 2 decades. She has a gift. I was wondering the reason for not just using the tail shaft fill plug for all and save a step? Best video available for this task. Great job!
There is nothing more attractive than a great positive personality. Darn …now I after replay the video to learn how to Service a Sealed Toyota Transmission.
Be careful removing a shift lever if you’re parked on the driveway if you move it a little too much the trans can come out of gear and roll over you. Loved the video.

This video has made me decide to to tackle the fluid change on my truck with the same transmission! You have a gift with these videos. One question: thoughts on Idemitsu WS fluid? I too normally like and buy Toyota/OEM stuff, but it seems the Toyota WS juice is mineral based and the Idemitsu is full synthetic (which I generally prefer). Thanks so much for making the channel, as a guy who does most of his own repairs and learns “on the job”, you are really able to break down (including the how and the why) the steps you take to complete a job the right way.
Good grief. I saw this after I did my own service. Instructed dear daughter step by step as you just did for us (sans computer and thermometer steps) From the looks I did it all the same. Great tutorial. Greatly appreciated. Subscribed.
Faye, I watch you and Bogie on Sunday. Where is your shop? I have a 2018 Toyota Sienna AWD and I don’t trust my Dealer, I’ve got Bridgestone run flats and they won’t let me look under the van when it’s on the lift for oil change to see if I have a spare tire. After watching you on TV you’ve gained my trust as a technician. I’m 69 and had my right shoulder replaced from a 15 ft fall, hitting a cinderblock wall breaking 8 ribs and had my right hip replaced July 3. I used to work on my own vehicles but now it’s to hard to get down on the ground and get back up so I’m having to trust others for the work to be done. I live in Newport News, Virginia but I don’t mind driving, I used to be a big truck driver and I’ve got over 2 million safe driving miles. I lost my wife to cancer seven years ago after 42 years of marriage and having an raising 3 children in good adults with families of their own.
Who ever your parents are...Faye, they're very proud of you. Just wish you can be my daughter... Congrats and best wishes on whatever you do. Many blessings from the guy up there to people like you. Greetings from " The best snow state on earth "
Thanks for clearing up the mysteries of the sealed trans. I usually do my own work, but to change fluid on a sealed trans with no dipstick, I’ll pass and let a pro do it.
2 issues. The customer supplied fluid said it met toyota ws..and ford mercon 5. Which scares me because mercon 5 and the toyota trans fluid are not the same... Second...you are putting in what you removed ... however that depends on the current level being correct which you have no way of knowing.. so if the trans started a quart low.. or overly full.. you continued the poor level. Glad you checked level. overfill a half qt and warm the engine and trans 10 min.. check pan temp with an infared thermometer.. and release the fluid check plug if the temp seems close. Is the best method.. Which i see you did. So awesome job.
Great video Faye! I actually work for a Toyota dealership, so they kinda frown on us doing the transmissions this way because they don't want us to trust the amount of fluid the vehicle came in with. There's a whole process of draining, making sure the fluid is at the right temperature (using our "techstream" system) when refilling and topping it off. It's such a pain in the butt. Bain of my existence... lol ...So much easier if they'd actually let us just measure and replace as you show here. Awesome recommending the actual Toyota fluid, their transmissions are so finicky about aftermarket. Keep on wrenchin!
If you’re a Toyota tech, surely you know it’s not actually a Toyota transmission? Why would the transmission be “finicky” about other fluids when Toyota WS is technically a third party fluid too? The A750F is an Aisin transmission, not Toyota. It is ABSOLUTELY IDENTICAL to the Mitsubishi Pajero/Shogun transmission, except Mitsubishi call it the “A5AWF”. Surprisingly, Mitsubishi techs also say don’t use any fluid other than Diaqueen ATF PA 🤣 Mitsubishi Diaqueen ATF PA, Toyota WS, Penrite ATF LV, Fuchs Titan, Castrol Mecron LV, Nulon, Valvoline have all been used successfully for years on the A750F/V5AWF. If you insist your customers use genuine fluid, you should be filling their cars with Aisin ATF+ Wide Range VI fluid 🤪
Thank you!!! I'm about to seal a leaky Tacoma transmission. Great info on the fluid check! I never thought to check the transmission temp with Techstream.
Nice job, Faye. Really like the comparison part between the gun and the sensor pid data. Don't think i've seen someone do that before, but good to know the gun is fairly accurate.
If I am paying for the service, I would want it done the right way. If I were going the DIY route, and the vehicle were not spanking newish..... the heat gun would be acceptable, as the head range is generous enough. Of course, a lot of build-up on the cover might act as insulation.... and skew a heatgun reading, and cheap 10.00 thermal guns can be way off. I do not even change my own oil... too messy when I can pay someone to do it, and focus on MY business!
Faye is a doll and a lifesaver! Thanks for taking the time while in the middle of your normal “daily grind” to make all the wonderful Toyota content that you do!!!
Thank you very much Faye. I really appreciate you going through in detail and also provide different models of Toyotas. I own 2012 Camry and Sienna (V-6) and I really appreciate the diagrams on the locations of all the drain plugs and also air bleeder locations. Thank you and happy 2021 New Year's.
When i needed to know , i came here to the pro, and now i know which way to go, i spray painted the fill plug in hi vis orange, its confusing under there sometimes ,lol. Thanks, you're a lovely woman.
This is by far the best, most informative and most enjoyable video I have seen that explains the complexity of these idiotic sealed transmissions Toyota has gone to. I never realized that doing 3-4 flushes is recommended either. I usually try to handle DIY to a degree, but this tranny stuff requires some intricate knowledge, which this video handles nicely. After our local dealership (Autonation Toyota) did a drain and refill on our 2012 Camry SE/V6, the transmission literally destroyed itself. A couple days after the service we were on the highway about an hour and could smell burning fluid. Diagnostic code/light on dash went on. Pulled over and the whole engine bay was full of sprayed transmission fluid. Not sure what goes wrong, but seemed like it was overfilled and blew the seals. Sad that the Toyota dealer doesn't even know how to do this properly. I'm willing to drive where she works to have it done right.
This is why I'm afraid to even let Toyota do a transmission change on my Camry. These transmission oil changes are more complex than the old type and most mechanics won't do it in the detailed way it's supposed to be done.
Wow! Really well done both in content, delivery, tips and accuracy. I really liked how detailed you were and how you provided comparisons between methods of checking temperature and fill level.
Great video Faye and you're a refreshing change from all the chaps doing similar. I will service my '05 Lexus GS300 ATF to your method which appears pretty straightforward. Thanks
I know I am late to the game, but thank you for sharing your knowledge! Just did four drain and fills on my 2018 Tundra. My Toyota tech said since it is a sealed system there isn't any reason to change the transmission fluid until 100K. Once I saw the condition of the ATF after my first drain, I was glad I changed the fluid. Thanks again for helping everyone!!!

I'm going to perform this same procedure to my 2008 Tacoma this summer (2nd time w/ about 127K on the ODO) and your's is by far the most clear and concise video I've found on this. Super-great job, very clear and well edited video, I've just subscribed and am a new fan. I'm going to go out and get a calibrated plastic beaker like you've shown, and not be fearful of using my heat gun to approximate the trans temp for the final level verification. I was also going to change the filter and gasket at the same time, (which I DID do 60K ago...) do you think that's overkill? Thanks Faye!! LarryS
No, I don't think that's overkill if you plan on keeping it for forever! I will say that the first time I do a transmission filter exchange is at 120k miles, and I rarely recommend it at 60k miles unless the vehicle does a lot of towing or other heavy duty work. I have saved a bunch of those filters and dissected them at 60k to see what they look like, and I've never found that the filter media was dirty enough that early on to warrant selling them to my customers..... That being said however, I never want to discourage anyone from going extra mile on their own personal vehicle, and I have done plenty of transmission filter swaps at the request of my customers at 60k and earlier. I hope this was not too convoluted and I hope this helps!
And smile and personality. Reminds of my friend Pamele, when she was 25 yoa, when we were neighbors living in Dallas, at an apartment we both lived at, some 20 years ago. Same mannerisms and bubbly personality 🤩 I miss my friend 😔

Others seem to talk with their hands including the one with a camera in it and one ends up feeling nauseated from the shoddy camera work. Great editing as well, lighting, and suttle, but, not overpowering background music. All others should take note and follow your standards.
cutest mechanic ever! knowledgeable and well spoken, was fun to watch
@ALF Raydough Scotty is a hack..
Perfect timing! My Tacoma is just over 60k. Your attention to detail and knowledge is top notch. Thanks!
Great video. I really liked how you explained things so well and at a slow pace for people that don't do trans work every day. Thank you.
Michael Peeples I agree
Started working on cars 24 years ago. Professional since 2008. Still like watching the videos!
I’m a 35year honda tech , plus most other brands , you have done an excellent job on this video , all info and accurate, nothing left out . Great to see someone making videos like this , you’re doing good for automotive ! I just did my 2020 Tacoma trans oil replacement 2 months ago , ended up replacing an old scanner with a new one for the job . Great job on the trans oil replacement and video . Thanks ! 👍🏻
Some people are surprised that girl is a mechanic lol in my part of Canada it’s normal I know lot of chicks that are welders and HD’s and heavy equipment operators. Good job!
LoL maybe where are at but it is rare to woman as mechanic they used don't like get there hand dirty.
yup seen a lot of female truck drivers in the oilfield too (most of em sucked lol) was fun watching them snap 40k winch lines bc theyre retarded and dont know how to work a winch truck
@@johndowe7003 lol yes the best is when a guy busts out his rear window with a flying winch cable. For some reason men have trouble mastering pinching aswell.
Ryry K Welder should be a surprise to nobody. Women naturally have really good dexterity which makes stacking dimes that much easier.
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I turned on this video. Now I know. It is truly refreshing to not listen to some immature guys working on super-cars. I subscribed and looked you up on safari. You’re the real thing 😸.
Thank you so so much. I really appreciate this comment. Glad you gave me a chance!!
Top notch teacher video from someone who taught mechanics for 35 years great job you’re a credit to the mechanical industry
Wow, thank you!!!
You are also cool!😊
The chicken had me ROFL 😂.
She actually changed the oil not like the shops that fake change.
I really like how you included the torque specifications as well as detailed the need for the correct crush washers, both are very important. I also agree that you should use Toyota OEM trans fluid. Very informative video!
Great video Faye! I love your work.
Thank you so much!
Do you think it makes sense to change a 97 4runner 225k transmission filter if it has never been done? Trans oil are replaced every 25k.
@@FayeHadley god I love your personality....made me want to get notifications on your new videos and keep up the great work! 👍
Well done.
Easily the best automatic transmission fluid change video on youtube by a clear mile!
Thank you!!
Nice work, M'am. You covered all of the bases, including taking into account thermally related expansion of the AT fluid.
Oh my goodness lady teaching people working on car. You rock sister, I’m so proud of you.
“Would you look. At. That!” Is my new favorite catch phrase at work now. Thanks for that 😆
My son just got a toyota car and claims it sealed life-time I was very concerned about this since trans oil gets burnt looking over time great video
Your Voice: the Bob Ross of the automotive DIYs
I think she could make a living with her voice. I was going to comment on it, but you beat me to it.
I agree that she is an awesome teacher. I was a U.S. Army helicopter instructor pilot for more than 2 decades. She has a gift. I was wondering the reason for not just using the tail shaft fill plug for all and save a step? Best video available for this task. Great job!
It's amazing how much fun she's having. I know it's time-consuming but you need to make more videos.
There is nothing more attractive than a great positive personality.
Darn …now I after replay the video to learn how to Service a Sealed Toyota Transmission.
😅😅😅
Be careful removing a shift lever if you’re parked on the driveway if you move it a little too much the trans can come out of gear and roll over you. Loved the video.
Stephanie Reagle Car has to be standing leveled horizontally .Maybe on jacks.
came for the service info, stayed for the silkie, not disappointed :)
Super video! I applauded for $5.00 👏👏
My instructor used this as an example of how to properly service a sealed transmission. You do good work, Faye! Keep it up!

Absolutely amazing!! Great tutorial. Scotty can retire... (don't tell him that, he is still funny to listen)
Your videos are great! Definitely the best made informative I've seen. And I like the Toyota emphasis! Keep them coming!
Subscribed.
Thank you!! I appreciate your sub! :)
Hang in there girly, your channel is going to blow up soon. I see 100k subs in the near future if you just keep being your adorable informative self 😍
Loved your well articulate and super cool procedure. I feel that I could converse with you for days lol. Keep up the great work ✌❤
I absolutely loved your tutorial and really enjoyed the enthusiasm you have for what you do. Well done Faye!
Thanks to Faye, I am actually looking forward to servicing the transmission on my Rav4. Her steady camera hand is a huge bonus for us mere mortals!
Who ever your parents are...Faye, they're very proud of you. Just wish you can be my daughter... Congrats and best wishes on whatever you do.
Many blessings from the guy up there to people like you.
Greetings from " The best snow state on earth "
Thank you ... I had no idea being old school with a newer vehicle ... great information, thank you Faye !!!
Love your videos. Not too fast, clear and detailed explanations & reasons.
Thanks for clearing up the mysteries of the sealed trans. I usually do my own work, but to change fluid on a sealed trans with no dipstick, I’ll pass and let a pro do it.
Pro Bono is more like it.
A. Thank you for being much smarter than me. B. That was one of the most informative and positive videos ever. C. Where can i find a pro shop chicken
HAHAHAHAHA thank you so much :) and chicken - Craig's List $5 ;)
Professional transmission service explained well. Excellent tutorial. Keep up the good work.
i always admire a lady mechanic.good job lady, nice video and i love the voice...
Great video Faye, learned something new, I didn't know the transmission model was on the white info tag...
Surprisingly, Mitsubishi techs also say don’t use any fluid other than Diaqueen ATF PA 🤣
Mitsubishi Diaqueen ATF PA, Toyota WS, Penrite ATF LV, Fuchs Titan, Castrol Mecron LV, Nulon, Valvoline have all been used successfully for years on the A750F/V5AWF.
If you insist your customers use genuine fluid, you should be filling their cars with Aisin ATF+ Wide Range VI fluid 🤪
Man, I was most impressed w/ her, her knowledge, communicating to understand.....all of it!!
Thank you for the torque specs, it always helps
Yeah, kinda rare to see them given out---most of these videos mechanics go by " feel "---wish they would use the torque wrench.
Your demonstration is even better than what they teach in Toyota (transmission service) course
Faye is a doll and a lifesaver! Thanks for taking the time while in the middle of your normal “daily grind” to make all the wonderful Toyota content that you do!!!
I need you as the voice of my voicemail!
Thanks for the teaching.

Lol
You are either "panty sniffer guy" or "foot fetish guy " or both
Thank you very much Faye. I really appreciate you going through in detail and also provide different models of Toyotas. I own 2012 Camry and Sienna (V-6) and I really appreciate the diagrams on the locations of all the drain plugs and also air bleeder locations. Thank you and happy 2021 New Year's.
You're so welcome! Happy new year, Toyota fam!!
Very informative video Faye. Great job. U will be a great addition to all girls garage. Looking forward to more videos.
Best tutorial for a sealed transmission DIY 🔥
Thanks
Best video best instructor this woman is awesome. Explained every detail without putting me to sleep. I would let her work on my truck anyday.
I did mine on the no dipstick Camry at 50K, the oil was dirty. Pulling the pan out, magnets had sludge on it. Oil cheap, transmission not so much.
I never knew it was such a process wow thank you for sharing
THANK YOU, FAYE !

I love the way you always take the time to explain what you are doing and why! Wished you were closer to me so I could have you work on my vehicle!
Gday Faye. I Just wanted to let you know my 9yo daughter '10yo in Jan' adores you. She watches a lot of your videos because she can relate to you. My baby has been helping me work on cars for the last 3 years and has been watching me ever since she could walk because she is a daddy's girl and wants to do everything I do. Before the new rules, YT added about kids in videos she made a clip about changing a fan-belt 'with my help' of course and wanted to make more but she just has to wait a little while longer now. In the meantime, she is learning a lot from you and asks me many questions and I thank you very much for that. The only downside tho and something I have no problems with is she only has a few friends as she tells me that almost everyone she knows at school is more interested in boys lol. Keeps up the great work. The more you teach the more question my daughter asks me. I hope she never loses interest and one day like you makes her own YT clips. You are an inspiration.
Faye has the best laugh ever.
And smile and personality. Reminds of my friend Pamele, when she was 25 yoa, when we were neighbors living in Dallas, at an apartment we both lived at, some 20 years ago. Same mannerisms and bubbly personality 🤩

I may be repeating what other viewers are writing, how refreshing it is to hear your warm, well spoken, feminine words. As proven in many other "man careers" (police, fireman, mechanic...) the female presence is vital. Love ya!! ;-)

Thank you Faye, I just can’t see bringing my Tacoma in to a dealership after viewing your excellent diy video. Excellent narration and camerawork. You saved me a considerable amount of money, God Bless you!
I could screw up as much as the dealer and save $$. Last time my dealer torqued down the drain plug to 100 psi! Was scared I might break that bolt using so much force taking it out.
