- Time to change the brake fluid on the Ferrari F430, and this time it's going to be much easier as I'm going to use my Motive pressure bleeder.

Excellent job showing every step and explaining why you were doing what you did. I'm off to try this on my 360.
I have been watching for a long time and must admit for a guy that drives his car that has to be one of the cleanest F430's I've ever seen.
Well, the camera hides a lot of the imperfections. :)
Love these videos!!
Thanks! I like making these. :)
I've always wondered how hard those breaks would be to do.
Big stickler!
However, the car makes it all worth it😊
To be fair these are aftermarket so I'm not sure how hard factory brakes are.
Great video as always. Including the what goes wrong makes it relatable to the viewer in my opinion. Side note, will you be revealing the before and after of the kitchen Reno? Curious to see Meg’s decor tastes.🇨🇦
Yup, the kitchen JUST finished, or well, is usable as of last night so I'll probably make that video soon. I did time lapse for almost every day so that should be pretty cool to watch.
Dan, I did the Brembo pads on the Mas and it was SUPER easy. No need to remove the caliper - just pop the pins, remove the spring, then lift the pad out the top. Compress the pistons (I was able to use my fingers), then reverse. When removing the pins it helps to hit them with brake cleaner to get the brakes on dust out of the way so they slide through the caliper easier. Also helps to compress the spring to relieve tension on the first pin.
Well I hope mine are the same way. If so that sounds pretty simple. Thanks!
The time-lapse are always cool!
I agree. 😎
Nice!!
Thanks
Will you buy a Gallardo next? I need some informational videos 😂 love the channel. Going to COTA Nov 1?
I will be at COTA for F1!
@@normalguysupercar Couple of us will be there Nov 1 - 3 for the vintage races!
I'm thinking of going for the SVRA races... Most likely.
We'll be driving down from Tyler. One of the guys in our group just got a F430 and will be taking it. Should find a time to meet up!
Ah, seen the video now. Nice, you right you had done a fluid change video before.
Yup
You should get the Ferrari wrapped up like a chrome blue or any other color it's going to look real nice and it will protect the whole paint.
Na I like it red.
So I can see you bleed the front and after the rear … what s is the best practice ? not rear right, rear left, front right, front left ? Thanks
very cool dan....hey, what kind of floor do you have in your garage....are they some kind of squares attached together...
Swiss Trax
I hope all 4 Michelin PS4S tire treads have been holding up with those brakes! I'm looking to get them for the GTR. My Dunlop runflats have lasted over 20000 miles (mostly hwys).
So far I'm pretty happy with the PS4S. They certainly seem to have a lot more life than the Cup 2s.
Wowee!
Time Lapse!!!!
Yay for time lapse
I have to do this with my Supra because it's so low. Like you said, I have two 2X4s that I drive up on and that lifts the car just enough to get my low profile jack under it. Also I use line wrenches whenever I'm working on brake lines to avoid rounding off the nipple
Yeah, I need to get some of those wrenches.
Great vid...keep it up...about 46% to the 458!
Woohoo!
Lol the cap flying off was pure comedy! Just curious, why not put the Mini outside and the 430 in the middle to have more room to work? I can’t work on my cars unless the car is in the middle of the garage.
I probably should, I'm just lazy.
Haha I’ve tried taking tires on and off before with the car in its usual place in the garage, and I always end up saying “dammit should have just moved the damn car!” 😂
I've said that to myself many many times now.
How do you dispose of the used brake fluid? Is there an oil recycling location in Austin that you recommend?
Pretty much all of the auto parts stores have oil recycling, so I just take it to Advanced Auto.
Hey Dan, nice video as always! Was wondering whether you were going to the USGP in a couple of weeks? I am heading down for that with some car guy friends and wanted to know whether there were any Ferrari events or car shows scheduled for that weekend that we could possible attend? Thanks.
I am indeed going, I picked up some grandstand tickets - Section 117. If you're a FCA member, there's the FCA F1 Reception Friday night.
Normal Guy Supercar awesome! We will be at Turn 12 near the top. Maybe we will run into each other!
Very cool. It's a lot of fun.
Thanks for the helpful video but I don't understand a couple basic things. At the very beginning of the procedure there are several inches of air in the plastic tubing between the bleeder container and the master cylinder reservoir, which get pushed into the brake reservoir. Doesn't that introduce a substantial amount of air into the brake lines? Also, since it's necessary to remove Motive's thick rubber diaphragm from the adapter cap, what did you use to seal the adapter cap to the master cylinder? Without that diaphragm I can't get an air tight seal. Appreciate your feedback.
The air won't push past the fluid already in the reservoir
@@normalguysupercar Thank you. Appreciate the quick response.
Nice brakes 👌 I heard your Ferrari rev at cars and coffee
Hopefully your ears still work.
@@normalguysupercar idk bout that
I wonder what is your next repair you are going to do on your car because you pretty much did most of all serviceable items. .or are thinking of replacing next your wheels .. engine.... your air freshener ..... whatever next we will always enjoy watching you
Well, I drive it enough that I'm sure it will need more maintenance soon.
Good video, but you do NOT need to keep topping the reservoir up, just put a couple of pints of fresh fluid in the power bleeder and push it through. Here is a video on how to use that particular brake bleed system ruclips.net/video/2MmKaa3IVMo/видео.html
which DeWalt tool do you use to lose up the lug nuts?
I used a breaker bar to loosen them, but the DeWalt impact driver to remove them.
NEW CONTEST FOLKS!
If you can come up with the exact number that Dan said the word “nipple” you win his old brake fluid!
Enter Now!
LOL! Just don't drink it.
Interesting that they are one peace pads in those calipers. I thought with that design of calipers they were 3 separate pads on each side of the disc?
Nope, just 1 per side of the rotor. Quite large pads.
An idea for topping off the fluid without worry of getting it on the paint is to use a larger turkey baster. That's how I do mine. (When i do do it lol)
Pretty good idea.
My QuickJack doesn't fit under my Scuderia. Like you mention, I drive onto 4 pieces of 2x under each tire. Also you can get some wheel guide pins that makes it easier to line up the rims when reinstalling since the bolts are a pain. I use the same ones from my porsche. - 14x1.5
Gerald Luiz I have a similar problem with my private jet. It’s the tallest model they make so I have to lower the tire pressure to allow it to fit in the hanger......luckily my helicopter fits no prob:)
Gerald - yeah, that's my concern with the QuickJack. I almost bought one but I was highly suspect it wouldn't fit under the car.
Here’s a thread from F-chat about using the QuickJack. Seems to fit the regular 430.

Here’s a video lifting a 430 spider

The problem is mine is lowered so I may be hosed.
Good break fuild last year's before you actually have to change it. Especially if you drive the car alot.
The issue is that most Ferrari owners let their car sit for long periods of time and the humidity makes the breakfuild contaminated.
Yeah, that and if you're tracking the car, the heat will break it down.
that fluid looked cleaner than my pee
You should probably drink more water. Lol.
Buy a set bleeder wrenches 🔧 so they won’t round off brother 👍🏼👍🏼
Yeah, for sure.
Instead of going through all the trouble. Is it possible to just change the brake fluid in the reservoir only?
Well, that's not really where the fluid needs to be changed most. The fluid closest to the calipers is the fluid that gets heat cycled the worst and therefore is the fluid of most concern.
Do you think that 5.1 brake fluid would make a difference for you?
Well, I've been using the Castrol SRF since the last fluid change and it didn't have any brake face at COTA. So I would say it works well under pretty extreme heat so that's good enough for me.
Dan, my experience is mostly motorcycles. But Brembo all the same. One product that goes on all my bikes www.speedbleeder.com. They work well. If you’re replacing the bleeder screw that’s rounding off, I recommend these.
Yeah those look interesting for sure.
OK - somebody has to say it - have you thought of getting a funnel to pour brake fluid into the reservoir? :-)
Naa... no need.
@@normalguysupercar Looked like you were using @WatchJRGo's bluetooth funnel...
$ 2000 brake fluid change! :-)
Probably close to that at the dealership.
The new fluid goes in the pump jug......
Yup, I didn't know that. Good to know for next time. That'll make it even easier.
Fust
Damn u's.
The money he saves changing the fluid himself vs dealership is probably 5X my yearly salary :(
I think I'm saving about $2k this year... Last year was bad and I probably saved about $15-20k.
Can’t have nice cars parked anywhere! Normal people don’t care about nice cars!
Nope! Nobody gives a damn.
Buys a Ferrari, can't afford a funnel.
That last $2 would have broke the bank.
