Hi okop! Wow.. I never thought I'd see/hear my story on your podcast.. the last story is mine... I have started seeing a therapist (first one was last week and will see her again tomorrow 1/19).. I am still trying to figure out what to do.. as I have so many battling thoughts... like you guys said if anyone has similar stories and if you don't mind sharing them. I'm far from being in your situation, but someone very close to me has been... tldr; she divorsed him 18 years after their wedding because he cheated. She had custody of her 2 children. It was tough at first but believe me, living in a happy house with divorced parents is better than a miserable one with married parents.

I feel like she was pulling this shit my ex did with this one poor girl that was completely brainwashed by him. Basically they sent me videos of them having intercourse to try and make me jealous and she captioned it “yeah he’s with me” but sent it from his account so I sent it to his works social media account and got him fired for harassment of a customer. But I think she’s pulling that same shit.

The best advice i have ever given to friends and myself in these types of situations is to reach out to friends and family. If your partner is cheating, and you dont have the confidence to leave yet, start being with friends as much as possible. Build thw supports. This builds your confidence and gives you the courage to know your worth. Whether a new job, school, church , whatever. Every person i have given this advice to, including myself, left shortly after cause they had the support and courage to leave. You are beautiful, smart and charming op, love yourself, build the social circle and supports, and make an example of a strong mother for those children. Sometimes leaving takes time, and thats okay.
We need a mega episode where Sam, John, Sophia and Riley read stories and give their opinions this was kinda like a test run for it, cause all 4 were there but just Sam was banned lol

Riley that's not trauma bonding. Trauma bonding happens between victim and abuser not victims. It's generally a bad thing that happens to people in toxic relationships who have been abused in the past.
I became best friends with my ex-husband about a year after our divorce. We went to concerts together, shows, we text every day. We knew each other so well that if he complained about something in his relationship, I could tell him, "Pull your head out of your ass!! Can't you see what you're doing 😂😂!!.

I have been with my ex 10 years, age 20 to 30, and we separated due to different visions for our future. In those 10 years, we've become close friends with each other's close friends, so after a time of no contact, we were bound to see each other again sooner or later. Since then (9 years ago), we've become good friends who see each orher several times a year and even invite each other to our birthdays. None of us have any interest in getting back together or find each other attractive anymore, but with all the shared history, we still really like and confide in each other. I am very happy it turned out this way 😊

Okay 1 thing - trunk or treats have been a thing for quite some time. We used to take my sister to them at a church/daycare/preschool that she used to go to back in 2008-9ish bc the trunk or treats are held earlier, they also did a bounce house, cotton candy, music, games, etc and it's just generally supposed to be safer for the kiddos too rather than out in the streets and going door to door and they have like a more fun time too with their lil community ❤
Here people also decorate said trunks or cars for Halloween we've had them for as long as I can remember

I’m good friends with one of my exes. We were friends before we were dating and are still in the same friend group, I like his girlfriend (and helped set them up), he likes my boyfriend. He is still one of my favourite people but what we wanted for our futures was very different. It took a lot of work and boundaries but we are all in a great place.

Trunk or treats have been going on for a long time. I have taken my kids to them since they were tiny, and they are great for my daughter with special needs. Churches and schools are the majority of trunk or treats here. We even have a few that you drive through them so that the kids don't have to get out in the cold.
I had an ex who went to visit his (female) best friend, who lives in a different country, on the day of our anniverssary (4 years). To this day I still beleive he had a crush on her but she was friendzoning him. She is a nice person btw, now happily married to someone else. But yeah, he would do stuff like that just to hurt me. The relationship at that point was going downhill, and honestly the love was long gone, but still, the disrespect. We broke up not long after that.

No. As a friend, if my ex or ex-friend with benefits friend slept over, they sleep on a couch, or if they both visit, they get my bed, I get the couch. Sleeping next to my ex when I know they're in a relationship is bizarre.

One thing I’ve learned in life is that the saying “once a cheater, always a cheater” is true. I’ve given second chances and been burned again and again. What the cheater learns from getting caught, is not to not do it again, it is to just hide it better next time. Unfortunately though, I’ve never met a man who has not been a cheater. Maybe that’s just my bad luck, but through all my years, I’ve been cheated on in every relationship I’ve had.

I have to say I kinda felt for Eric in the one story because of the abusive parents, and having grown up in an abusive situation, that’s one of those situations where staying friends with an ex is totally understandable. I’ve dated people who absolutely couldn’t understand despite my best efforts at explaining that my mother is an absolute dumpster fire of a horrible person and would try to invalidate my lived experience and gaslight me about it.
My partner now also has a questionable relationship with his mother because she was abusive, and it was so relieving for both of us to be with someone who knows that experience and perspective.
That being said, Eric is trash for how he’s behaving and shutting out OP. he needs to sort his problems out alone before inflicting them on other people.

Last story Think of the kids. Do you want them to feal it's ok to be treated like this by their partners or to treat their partners this way?
My opinion on checking the phone if there’s no history of cheating:
If your partner is acting or treating you differently (either very harshly or starting to shower you w/ gifts) and it’s sending your intuition that something is wrong then check the phone
If they’re not treating you differently but doing things they don’t normally do (for example guarding their phone) then that could also be a reason to check it
But if nothing is giving u a reason to check it and you still have a hunch then you shouldn’t UNLESS you started having suspicions that weren’t there before.
I had a friend that was in a 3 year relationship and didn’t suspect their partner of cheating. Then one day they started feeling like something was off and that their partner was hiding something. When their partner fell asleep they grabbed their phone and opened it found out the partner was cheating on them with two other people.

I dated my ex in high school for six months every time I kissed him it’s all really weird like I was kissing my friend… So when he was at Mormon camp over the summer I texted him saying I wanted to break up a year later we were still friends after. After high school I was still really good friends with him and I got pregnant. The father of the child ended up leaving us, so my best friends mom moved us into the house and he became her godfather! Now currently I still live with him my daughter is six and he is my best friend. I love him but not in any form more than a brotherly sisterly love. That's not exactly what trunk or treat is, but I can see how people adopted it for covid. It's been around much longer, at least 15 years, and a lot of churches put them on in parking lots for a safer option for kids instead of wandering around in the dark goung to strangers houses. I took my kids once when they were little many years ago when we were new to an area. It didn't have the same kind of experience.
Ok. So I had an ex gf, we were together for a couple of years. Years after we broke up, we were friends. I was in a committed relationship, so was she. We slept on the couch together for 3days. Nothing happened, her gf even walked in to the house with us sleeping on the couch. I think that she was uncomfortable by it, but she never said anything about it, otherwise everything was chill.

in Texas Trunk or Treat has been a thing for as long as i can remember. im 34. its mostly for the littler kids. churches, schools and the city host them. where i live, there's usually at least a dozen trunk or treats hosted the week of halloween.
Me (afab nonbinary) and my best friend (female) have been best friends for around 15 years. We dated for a couple of years before breaking up, and it did take time to get back to bff status, but now we're almost tighter than ever. She's my favourite person in the world, but in a strictly platonic way, and we often share a bed when one of us stays over. Idk, any future partner of mine will have to be OK with me being bff with my ex.
