The Maid of Honor's actions are a huge breach of trust, and anyone who says she doesn't deserve to be kicked out of the wedding is delulu. 18k would get you kicked out of my life, period. Heck, stealing any amount of money would make me seriously reconsider a friendship.

In relation to the first story, something else to consider is that the money the fiancé gave was also meant to pay for plane tickets for the people who were going to be attending the bachelorette party. All those guests had to pay for their own flights. So not only did the MOH steal from the bride and fiancé, she stole from the other guests, essentially.
She made them pay a seven of the expense of the party, too.

Second story: I grew up with the phrase "you know how your sister can be" I set boundaries as an adult and was called cold-hearted because I didn't bow down to my sister. As an adult when I hear family complain about my sister I tell them "just do it, you know how she is" then walk away without any involvement. Karma
In my family, my parents, my brother, an aunt and and all have anniversaries in the first week of Sept. The sister doesn't have a claim on the day.

I'm literally sitting here with my wife, her best friend and her bfs husband. They heard the story and they were both like WTF?!?! They've been friends for 30+ years ( we're in our 40s) so life long friends. They both think MOH is a huge AH. If either of them needed help, they would do it, no questions. They're both adamant that they would NEVER steal from each other. Not even a lipgloss let alone $25,000. If either of them needed financial help, the other would step up with no questions. They both asked what type of BEST friend would do that?
They should sue her, but if the ex-friend doesn't have a lot of money, just sue for $1. They get the judgment in their favor, they won't look vindictive for "trying to ruin her life" because she doesn't have a lot of money, and they can then walk away. If she has to do jail time, that's up to the courts and prosecutor.

I can relate to the last story. My husband is addicted to his ps5, and I’ve wanted to take an axe to it sooo bad. I have MS, and there’s been times when I’ve really needed his help, but he’s too busy playing a game. He keeps promising to do better, but it never happens. It is an addiction, I’ve realised that, but doesn’t make it any less frustrating!
Op story time:
Gaming is an addiction, my ex (married 16yrs together 20) has addition problems. I didn't care in the beginning with the games it was cute, we were young. As we got older and had kids he got worse, up all night ignoring the kids and I, I was sending the kids to daycare to make sure nothing happened to then because he was asleep. My break was when the kids started playing games and acting like him, getting overly angry , telling me they be done 'in a minute', and fighting over the games. I couldn't take it, so I sat him down and asked for therapy for him, us and the kids, he agreed the therapist said to remove all games from the house for a month and see how everyone does. The kids and I grew closer played board games, read to each other and went for walks, he started "working" more. I notice his checks not getting big and went to his friends house 1 night and found him playing. I divorced him 4yrs ago and me and the kids are so happy. Yes we play video games but they can be put down and ignored for days.

I did post an update in the comments, but the short of it is he has severe mental health issues that he wasn't honest about for a while, but he's gotten help and life is getting better on all fronts for everyone. :) still rough in some areas, but hey, it's life. And yes, I did know about these mental health challenges from the start. He was just hiding how bad things had gotten. Being maxed out on the same med for 4 years is bound to stop working after a while. He's now on something that works THANK GOD. (and is also back in therapy)
Just a fun fact: warhammer 40k is also a series of books and comics and the game is a lot of fun y’all should check it out!! Love your show guys!
I feel so bad for OP 😭 My husband is a gamer and is also an avid 40k/warhammer player, I’m talking like thousands of dollars into this hobby, and he makes sure that my needs and the needs of our relationship/family come first. He also has not had to give up any of his hobbies, it works it just takes effort on BOTH ends. Sometimes that means I go to bed without my husband and sometimes that means he doesn’t get to play games, but I’ve never had to beg, and you should NEVER have to beg for your partner’s attention 😭😭

I don't mind going to bed alone from time to time, but I was legit begging for one night a week. It has since been reversed - he stays up and plays maybe 2 nights a week now. There is a lot more to it, but he's getting the help he needs and is making massive improvements.

@@Kmart_ you're so sweet! Things were super rough for a while, but are improving now. Mental illness does have a massive role in this (he is disabled through the VA for mental things he developed while being in Afghanistan...) but after fighting with the VA and him, he is now getting the treatment he needs and the VA is covering it all.

If the husband on his wedding night spent his time gaming then he consimated his marriage to gaming. He isn't married to you, he is married to gaming. If you refuse to leave then he needs to go to counseling for gaming addiction. It's a real problem when it messes with your life and wellbeing. What will he choose gaming over next? His children? His job? His health? It will only get worse. He needs to be on a schedule so he limits his time and learns to manage life and gaming and that can only game after a very long period of gaming detox. Like literally 6 months. I am dealing with a family member with gaming addiction and know how hard it is to get them to overcome it, litteraly years of struggle. The biggest problem with a gaming addiction is that they have to learn how to manage it, because it is not like a drug that is killing them, they can't just go cold turkey forever. They will see it in commercials, they will have the urge every time they use any electronics and once they start they will spiral. So the only fix is to detox and try again to stick to a schedule and make their brain realize that other things in life are more important and gaming is only a small part of their life, not their whole life.

There's a mindset that often crops up that people with 7- or even 6-figure incomes have enough money that a given amount should be disposable to them, that they won't miss it. Sometimes, it goes as far as they owe it to me to give or let me take x amount because I'm important to them. That's why stories like this happening, and that's why so many of OP's circle think she's in the wrong. They either agree with the mindset, or are too scared to rock the boat. Integrity is one of the first things to go out the window when this much money comes in the door.

I am the OP from the last story (KittieMcCatFace) This is so nerve wracking, sitting here, listening to yall read this 😭
What ended up happening:
He got back into therapy, got his meds changed, and was diagnosed with depression. His gaming has fell off to the point he doesn't like playing anymore (which is really heartbreaking because he used to love gaming and was something we initially bonded over back in hs) We are moving forward with exploring new hobbies as a family and for him on his own. He is disabled through the VA and stays home with the girls and I (I work from home) so he doesn't have a lot of time to himself FOR himself.
Things were super bad there for a while, but we pulled through. He is planning a weekend down in Branson for our 1 year anniversary, which was meant to be a surprise but it slipped out one day on accident.
Also, we got married 10/27 due to the leaves changing and fall being our favorite season :) so close to that 11/11!
Glad things are working out, but don’t let his issues be an excuse for you to not be receiving the love you deserve ❤best of luck to you both

I feel for that last story. I have similar things happened to me too.beside getting married. And also one night I had enough and told him everything that’s been bothering me and hurting me. And guess what he fell asleep and started snoring. I was crying even more to the point I was hyperventilating. And ever since that day. I change. I prefer to be alone in my room. And he started to realize that I’m not asking for his attention so he’s been coming to me.

40k is Warhammer. In the one who doesn't come to bed and stays up late gaming. Especially once you have a child. Once you have been together over a decade, have kids and a house, weddings are more of a courthouse or day thing. Most people aren't that romantic by then. Now if you got family watching the kids and all that, it's time to get down, but I can't fall asleep after and I used to just lay there while my husband fell asleep. He told me just get up and go play games. Otherwise I'm laying there for a few hours doing nothing 😅
EXACTLY!!! We had a small wedding, his mom took the girls, and we went back home. He hopped online, and that was it. I told him over and over that I was tired, I missed him, and wanted to spend time with him. Didn't happen. I sulked off to bed and just felt awful about myself the whole night. I mean, I don't care if I fall asleep and he gets up and plays, because he IS a night owl, but it being on our wedding night that he didn't even give that courtesy? It hurt.

OP's family and friends are whacked - it isn't OP's fiancé's responsibility to pay the MOH's debts. Who will she steal from the next time she maxes out her credit cards?
Even if OP doesn't press charges, she should go to civil court to get the money back. It doesn't matter how she goes about getting the money, the MOH needs to find a way to pay it back.
