    I definitely agree. Reddit podcasts feel like the video equivalent drop-shipping. Minimal effort to capitalize someone else’s material/work. I avoid content that takes that approach as much as I can, but TikTok and RUclips both try to keep putting them in my feeds.

      Killer analogy, everyone wants to get in with minimal work. There is some value seen there, but overall it feels empty and artificial.
      Thanks for watching 🤝

    Omg, I clicked this video bc I agree and seriously thought I was alone in feeling this. I block any channel that gets suggested to me that just reads reddit posts. If I wanted reddit posts, I'd get on reddit.

    Tbh I've come around to Smosh reddit stories. They still have a ton of other content and they expanded reddit stories from streams because it was so popular. I didn't watch it at first but now it's just another form of their personality based content and I enjoy it

    • @tryhardterry68

      The beef I have with them is it feels like when they do the Reddit content it feels like they’re phoning in, just making content to put something out.
      I would NEVER do that! /s
      No, they’re fine, I just thought it’d be fun to complain a little.

      @@tryhardterry68 😂😂😂 fair enough. Honestly here's my pitch for a follow up video: reddit podcasts are ruining reddit. The more publicity these stories get, the more incentive there is to just blatantly make up shocking stories

      I’ve been convinced for years that people use Reddit to work on how convincing their writing and story telling skills are.

    Personally, I enjoy Reddit Podcast, but on RUclips, it becomes like a Mister Beast situation where everybody is trying to replicate the success! And everybody is trying to become relevant with either awful takes or awful personalities!

    • @Ballhair
      @Ballhair 2 месяца назад

      Also I frequent the smosh-cast but they are so heavily feeding into the awful takes category with either blatant (and concerningly recurring) misandry or just flat awful no-good bad takes.
      Great video also :) 👌

    • @tryhardterry68

      Yeh I understand they can be fun and relaxing to listen to. It’s like any other niche in media, there’s one popular one and 15 copycats.
      The takes are there so they can say it’s transformative, but we know why we’re here. 😉

    I don’t completely disagree. You make a lot of good points. I just think you’re being a bit unfair. It’s not just “bedtime stories”. It can add different perspectives so that if you ever get into situations similar it could help. It’s not that I necessarily want them to disagree but I also don’t want them to always agree with me. The only times when they disagree and I don’t want that it when I feel like their opinion is genuinely harmful and they are missing crucial nuance or being ignorant in some way. But like I’ve genuinely changed my mind after hearing other people’s perspectives quite a few times while listening

    • @tryhardterry68
      @tryhardterry68  2 месяца назад +3

      You’re spot on there, I didn’t take into consideration that some people may want to be challenged on their opinions when it comes down to certain situations.
      I absolutely unfairly reduced it down to just “bedtime stories”, but who doesn’t love a little exaggeration in their life.

    Its been a trope on reddit for a while that AITAH is where people go to practice creative writing. I'd say maybe 5%, if that, of the stories are actually real.

    I like them at work or driving. I don’t like to read Reddit during my free time cause I don’t have much. I can’t read it at work. So I miss a lot of the good Aita and Boru. But I can listen to a podcast. So I do indulge sometimes.
    I think they are also good for people that can’t read for whatever reason. People that are dyslexic, illiterate, blind, etc might prefer a hosted auditory version of Reddit.

      You bring up some amazing points there actually. In no way do I want to discredit the people who enjoy these podcasts for whatever reason they want to, I can respect that.
      I’m just hating on the people that make them.

    My big problem isn't that this stuff exists, even though I'd rather just read Reddit myself. If people want to have Reddit read to them, that's totally cool. It's that several of my favorite content creators that normally do video essays or comedy sketches have started doing these "react to Reddit posts" kinds of videos a lot lately and I'd rather that they do their other stuff. I don't have problems with Reddit posts kicking off inspiration for a video essay discussion, but just reading and reacting to a few posts is unsatisfying in people who I look to for more entertaining content.

    • @tryhardterry68
      @tryhardterry68  2 месяца назад +1

      I know exactly what you mean, but I figured that fell more into react content topic more, so I didn’t want to touch that. There’s tons of great content on Reddit but yeh it seems like it’s just creeping more and more into RUclips content.

      Podcasts can be lucrative if you have an interesting enough personality or topic. But just like any medium, it’s definitely getting too saturated.

    I listen to TwoHotTakes to sleep, because I need to listen to something because otherwise my brain goes to 200% and start planning everything, from things I need to do tomorrow, to world domination. And I can't sleep. But I can't listen to something engaging, because them I want to pay attention. So reddit stories is one of the alternatives.

    If I was to read those reddit threads for myself I would be stuck there for a lot of time and scrolling through comments. Sometimes I catch myself wondering why I keep reading, but then I read a few more...
    Listening to those stories makes it possible for me to do something useful in the mean time, like cleaning, washing dishes ect. Can't do that while reading. And they pick and choose those most entertaining stories, some of them keep track for updates, which is nice and read only a few comments and I cannot loose myself in rabbit hole.
    And that is why I like them.
    On top of that I like THT for their personalities.
    However I do feel like I am wasting too much time on that anyway, because I listen to couple of them (FOMO). But I know I would waste a lot more if I was to read them, so kinda convincing myself that it is better to keep listening.
    I just wish I was among those first who came with that idea, it seems like it is easy and fun job to do, if you have big enough audience to be able to earn a decent money.

      Sometimes I feel like I’m hearing the same stories over and over, like some stories go really viral amongst several pods so it gets tiresome and dull for me. I understand where you’re coming from and I respect your perspective on these tho.

    Tbh i only really like the Two Hot Takes podcast and Some of the Smosh reddit vids bc they add way more personality than just a boring reddit story, most of them are made up obviously but its still a form of entertainment good for when your cooking or whatever and dont have the hands free or the interest in scrolling reddit to find unique stuff. I always ignore the robot voice ones tho its so jarring to hear
