for caddets the new comp is worth it because we have gear restrictions and sram doesnt have any cassettes that are 16-30 but with shimano you can make custom cassettes
The new prices are insane... Purchased a 2021 Tarmac SL7 expert for $5,000 with a full ultegra DI2 groupset. Now with the comp being $5,500 with 105?!?! Insanity...
Something really interesting about this comparison is that these two models are only $500 apart in Canada as opposed to $1,000 USD different (I believe the specs are the same as the US). Highly unusual for the Canadian market is price differences are usually much greater due exchange rates.

My next bike is definitely going to be the new SuperSix EVO. $5,500 with the new 12 speed Ultegra Di2 and 50mm carbon wheels. And if you have an extra grand you can get it with the latest SRAM Force and R-S 50mm wheels. Is ridiculous Specialized charging these prices, but most ridiculous the people paying for it just because they want to have a bike that says Specialized on the side. Even for that price you can get a better bike from Giant.
The new Supersix evo looks great but good luck getting the 1 or 2 model. I’ve tried ordering the evo 1 through 2 different LBS that sell cannondale and neither could get a hold of one. The $5500 evo 2 you are referring to is also sold out even though it doesnt even come out for a couple months yet. The evo 3 with garbage wheels and 105 is pretty widely available though.
yea a sl6 with shimano 105 mechniacal or even ultegra we will call it..... its a mechanical group with external cables and a carbon covered alloy seatpost......... and you know how much electronic groups were back then as well

Simple. There are budget options like decathlon if this is too expensive for the layman.
I got a di2 comp Ultegra SL6 for 3900 USD in 2021. Added a zipp bar and winspace Hyper's for about 5k total with sales. I'd recommend comp and upgrade your own wheels and bar.
Seems like you get a lot for your $1000 right there. And you're 100% correct - the lower pricing this year is a reflection of just how bad the cash grab was last year. I'd wager they realized they have ballooning inventory and the market isn't supporting the gouging prices, so semi return to normalesque (still expensive).
I got the comp about a month ago 25% reduced and on cycle to work scheme (UK - essentially the 40% that I would pay in income tax goes to the bike instead so real world 40% discount on top of the 25%). I added some Hunt 55 carbon rims tubeless set up and the power meter upgrade and handlebar which I will do soon are relatively cheap. Getting it out the box with 2 of these 3 upgrades is something I would've considered but I'm happier with being able to pick the wheels I wanted instead of the 38s. Also thinking about using some of the savings to get the Favero Assioma duo power meters instead as well. For the handlebar I'm waiting to see what comes out with the lead sl8 that some of the pro teams have been running on their SL7s.
It’s like they don’t want people buying new bikes. SL2-5 used, under $1000 and better bikes than any of these new bikes. I’m not against e-shifting or hydro disk road brakes. I just find it offensive that manufacturers are forcing it on everyone. I want to put my snowboard away at the end of winter, pull my bike out and ride it. I don’t want to charge or change batteries, update software, bleed my brakes, listen to my disks make noise, change the fluid in my tubeless/hookless wheels, sync my phone to my bike. It’s fine if you do, but I want the option to opt out. I guess that’s where Marketplace and those “old fashioned” SL 2-5 DuraAce bikes for

Yep that's the one. I ended up getting the previous years expert in gloss carbon/oil tint/forest green. I don't like the colour as much, but it came with Ultegra for the same price as the gloss morning mist with Rival with the recent discounts.

You can find sworks sl7 with red groupset for 8k in great condition. Primarily due too many people making a prediction about sl8 on RUclips and telling people don’t buy an sl7…. There is a youtube advising people to wait for sl8.

The reason people use the SL7 as a comparison is because it's not an aero frame, so the numbers look better. It's essentially a benchmark of a basic road bike with no aero design.

The claim that the Shimano 105 Di2 is better than the Sram Rival eTap AXS is ridiculous. With 105 Di2 you are limited to only two cassettes 11-34 and 11-36 and one chainring 50/34. The Shimano 105 Di2 Rear Derailleur doesn't even support the use of an Ultegra or Dura Ace 11-30 cassette. Gear ratio options are much larger with the Rival AXS. The Rival AXS Rear Derailleur supports 10-28, 10-30, 10-33 and 10-36 cassettes (Rival, Force, Red). With the Rival AXS FD, you can combine 7 types of cranksets. By changing the crankset, cassette and rotors for the Sram RED AXS, you reach almost the same weight as the Sram Red groupset. The difference in levers Front Derailleur, Rear Derailleur and brake calipers between Sram Rival and Sram Red is only about 100g. Bikes with Rival AXS are usually the best to upgrade if you want a modern and relatively light bike with 2 x 12 electronic gears for a reasonable price. At least that's my experience.
It’s just my personal preference, and my professional opinion working with both groups every day and building these bikes up daily. But it’s my opinion

yea they are still releaseing them as new models, and the bike is still a top performing bIke in 2023..... it won mens giro, vueltta, 3 times in a row mens uci championship, the bike still performs very well

Would a pro like Remco have less success if he was on a different top tier brand bike? My guess is probably not, but the marketing of Specialized plays with consumers' emotions more than other brands (I for one bought an Allez as my first bike because of their marketing for example).

Paying for a “premium” of an electronic groupset while having a choice of a reasonably priced mechanical one is fair. Being cornered i to buying a lower-tier E-groupset without other options is a scam. I bought a sl6 expert with mech Di2 and C38 for $4000 and it is miles more of a bike than these comps will ever be. Mind you the price if manufacturing in Taiwan went up lets say 20% - thats on a $400 Frame to manufacture - a joke. All components besides the groupset are in-house and similarly dirt- cheap to produce. Shipping is back to pre-pandemic prices. There is nothing that justifies these prices. Specialized margin on these bikes was already over a 1000% but the greed can not be stopped
I mean the 105 dis group is more epxensive then the sram rival group, so if the comp from last year was sram rival and 5500 and people bought those all out, then now your getting a nicer group for the same money

i think for the Pro model they will put the ultregra that came out with the expert last year aswell as the new force.

I absolutely love the white (light blue?) color of the new rival expert, but I'd never buy it over getting the 105 comp and buying my own 50mm wheels.

not a lot, the 9r is heavier and more dense so more ocmfy but by very little amount just the weight

Paying for a “premium” of an electronic groupset while having a choice of a reasonably priced mechanical one is fair. Being cornered i to buying a lower-tier E-groupset without other options is a scam.
I bought a sl6 expert with mech Di2 and C38 for $4000 and it is miles more of a bike than these comps will ever be.
Mind you the price if manufacturing in Taiwan went up lets say 20% - thats on a $400 Frame to manufacture - a joke. All components besides the groupset are in-house and similarly dirt- cheap to produce. Shipping is back to pre-pandemic prices. There is nothing that justifies these prices. Specialized margin on these bikes was already over a 1000% but the greed can not be stopped

I mean the 105 dis group is more epxensive then the sram rival group, so if the comp from last year was sram rival and 5500 and people bought those all out, then now your getting a nicer group for the same money

What you want me to do? You want me to do every bike at a price point? I’m a specialized guy I sell specialized. I know the product back and forth. For me to sit here and say these bikes are better from like a look I don’t know how those ride. I’m only speaking on what I know
