You guys are my heroes when it comes to comedic writing and production value. As far as the final contest it was a really close call, had to go back and confirm a few times even with the replay/enhancements. Great episode!
just had this panicked realization i never left a comment after i watched this earlier this week! it came out great! i remember looking into Battletoads & Double Dragon on the SNES and Genesis, i've played and enjoy the NES one, but i was disappointed they weren't more impressive visually, like they're not too far removed from the NES itself. i guess i was expecting like Battlemaniacs. surprised to see them on such even ground in the end. anyway, thanks again for thinking of me for this super mega ultra crossover, had a blast!
Never played this one, but I have played Battletoads and Double Dragon games individually. Nice to see the gameplay takes most of the cues from Battletoads because I think it's a better game overall. The oil muppets were pretty hilarious too "Up, up, down, down, oil yourself up. Dare ya go". Great vid guys, as always. Also, have fun at Too Many Games.
I really respect that you guys didn't force this to have a winner. It sounds like this was probably a tough decision but you erred on the side of being honest with yourselves. These videos are really useful for figuring out whether I had the better experience or not if I only played one of the two games. And of course it's fun and enjoyable with the sketches you have. Keep up the great work.
You are doing a great job with these VSs! This a very refreshing approach to the timeless war between super and genesis. I am more an arcade guy (as you can see in my youtube channel), but I really appreciate your videos. Keep up the good work!
As growing up with both versions of BT&DD (Not the NES version until way later in life), I have to say that this is an accurate tie. One moment I think one version clearly does something better than the other, I see that the other pulls a one up in another department. Some departments I feel do great on both versions as well (especially if we are talking music tracks here). Both the SNES and Genesis versions are both fantastic ports. I really hope this gets the "Double Dragon Neon" (minus the weird hit detection that game had) treatment someday. That will now be up to both Microsoft and Rare. If Rash can be a guest in Killer Instinct, I think there may be hope. If you want it, demand it folks.
Great video as always! Eternal Champion vs Killer Instinct would be pretty cool. Both were fairly unique takes on the fighting tournament game concept.
I've always felt the sound of SNES vs Sega to be subjective. There's been many times i've preferred the Sega music over Nintendo's, because i like the "instruments" used on Sega better.
Console Wars im getting my First Genesis (I'm a kid XD) Any recommendations gamewise? (Also getting a Dreamcast so recommendations for that would also be nice) BTW Great Channel Guys :D
Great episode guys, been waiting for this one. Genesis having the better sound though??? I thought for sure SNES would win that. Also - Up, Up, Down, Down, oil yourselves up was hilarious.
Have you guys ever thought about adding an extra score unique to specific games? For example, TMNT: Tournament Fighters. In each version, they have a different character roster. So for that, you could compare to see which version has the best roster.
For me Sega is clear the winner, I also recently bought this. I’m so stoked to play it when I have time. I’m pretty sure i rented this game from BlockBuster back in the day and had a blast! This is one my favourite episodes from you guys
Hey guys. I finally got around to watching this. Things have been really busy for me. I agree that this is a hard one because many things are better on Sega, and many things are better on Nintendo. The presentation portion definitely made that clear. However I believe when it comes to the overall victor, this one goes to Nintendo. 1. On the Genesis version, the earlier levels are easier than the Super NES ones due to better hit boxes and IMHO tighter controls. 2. On the SNES version, the later levels are easier, due to either easier enemy patterns, or less cheapness from the bosses, allowing you to finish the game with *much* less frustration. Being able to finish the game more fairly, potentially in a single session, I feel gives it to Nintendo.
I've played both and can remember how disappointed I was with the SNES version. Genesis is way better. Controls are definitely easier in Genesis (hold down attack for combo). Also, in terms of quality, you can't say that the SNES sounds better. It sounds different. One synth guitar does not sound better than the other. Genesis re-release of Battletoads is also better than Super's Battlemaniacs, which ceases to be fun after the third level.
Oh wow! The first overall tie on Console Wars (If I recall correctly!). I grew up with the Genesis version, and it was actually the first Battle Toads game that I beat legit. Also....Why didn't you guys oil up?!?! I am disappoint!
Great episode! Really glad you did this comparison. I'm on Super Nintendo's side because the sound quality is just way too good compared to the Genesis version despite some missing sound effects that I can live without. Too bad there's no Battletoads series game or Double Dragon series game you can compare with the 2 systems. SNES has exclusives like Battletoads in Battlemaniacs and Super Double Dragon Genesis has the original Battletoads port and original Double Dragon port I guess it wouldn't make sense to compare that and it would be unfair to compare older games to newer ones in the series Double Dragon V is a fake, unworthy, disgrace and doesn't count
Love this channel guys, keep up the good work! I owned both consoles as a kid and have to say that the Snes was superior, however these videos have made me open my eyes as to how close it actually was. Thanks
It comes down to the game libraries. Genesis had a lot of great exclusive from Treasure and Sega themselves. SNES had great exclusives from Rare and their in house teams. I like how famous franchises have different versions for both systems, especially the two killer Konami series Contra and Castlevania. But yeah, different developers had different capabilities, the Shoot ‘Em Up genre and high speed run and guns were more prominent of Sega because the Motorola 6800 cpu is a true 16/32 bit cpu whereas the SNES only had an 8/16 bit cpu, which is why the Genesis could move more sprites around at higher speeds than the SNES, whereas SNES had scaling and rotation capabilities in hardware and an expanded color palette. Genesis gets flack for it’s sound a lot, but that’s only when the developers used the gems driver, if you had a dev with an in house sound team that made their own audio drivers and could fully harness the FM synth you could get some very amazing sound out of it. Of course the SNES did have more audio channels which allowed for fuller instrumentation. But if you had someone like a Yuzo Koshiro or a Chris Huelsbeck on the audio duties you would get an amazing synth sound from the fm synth but also utilizing the two other audio chips to make the audio presentation far more full than you could ever dream of accomplishing with that farty monstrosity that was the gems driver. So yeah, I love all the consoles from that era, PC Engine, SNES, Mega Drive and Neo Geo are all beautiful pieces of hardware with amazing capabilities when harnessed by the right people.
Have you guys considered doing comparisons with Game Boy/Game Gear and NES/Master System games? I think the amount of 4th gen multiplats are eventually going to dwindle, so it may be good to have a backup.
ShogunGino Would be nice if they do an 8 bit console wars but i think they still can compare different games of the same genre as they did with Final Fight and Street of Rage series for example Super Mario Kart vs Street Racer.
Michael Keaton on the left was an asshole early on in older videos, but now hes just such a delight. Really a pleasure to watch these videos. Crappy acting is so funny and the observations of these games are so in depth. They notice stuff i never would. Keep it up!
I was just playing this on the.... super Nintendo and I wanted to see if you guys covered this game! Of course you did and I watched it before already but... we're doing this! Let's watching it again!
I didn't really have a problem using X and A on the SNES version. In the Genesis version, I either had to go with backwards controls or have my thumb reach further than it usually does. I like the SNES controls more.
You guys are quickly climbing the list of my favorite youtubers. Seriously, the production values of your show match with the ones from much bigger channels, and you keep releasing better and better videos. Please don't stop. No kidding, usually I'm very critic of, well, everything that exists, but you guys deserve at least 100 times more subscribers. Greetings from Brazil!
That tie for sound is bs imo. Missing sound effects is no where near as important as a quality soundtrack. Especially if said sound effects are obnoxious anyway (such as that crusher pipe). I looooove Sega and certainly agree that missing sound effects is a negative but not one powerful enough to make it a tie. Good video tho, thanks for sharing.
For me complete sound & music is more important than slightly better graphics. The boss music especially adds to the experience. Unlike theses guys I dont like super huge sprites that take up too much of the screen either, so I never see that as as a bonus in SNES's favour as they will often count it. Those bosses on SNES look slightly too big & just right on Sega. I'd rather play the sega version. Plus I almost always like Sega music better even if the odd track might come out better on SNES. Sega is more grittier electro industrial sounding which is better for gaming IMO, SNES music usually falls flat. It sounds more like dull kids cartoon music. It's clearer & higher quality in some respects, but doesn't get you pumped up as much as Sega soundtracks, which hit harder & are more bassy. Totally a subjective taste thing though.
The boss music on the Sega Genesis always pumped me up! The best way to beat the game is on 1-player with a Double Dragon, get all the items and use the jump kick ;)
Great episode as always guys! Here's a few suggestions for future episodes Sonic 3 and Knuckles VS Mario World Rocket Knight Adventures VS Sparkster Fatal Fury Mega Bomberman VS Super Bomberman Mortal Kombat 2 Thunder Force IV VS Super R Type Mega Turrican VS Super Turrican Gunstar Heroes VS Cybernator Phantasy Star IV VS Final Fantasy VII
i feel i may be alone in suggesting this one but if you guys ever venture beyond the 16-bit era i'd really like to see a comparison done of san francisco rush 2049 on n64 vs dreamcast. that game feels really underrated nowadays and i wish it had more coverage on youtube in general.
I get your points about more songs and better sound effects.... but my vote is still on SNES :) I just can't deny those kickass tunes.... not really a fan of the Mega Drive "twang".
Just cuz the SNES is missing music tracks doesn't mean it doesn't sound better, to say the genesis sounds better cuz of that is ludicrous! The SNES actually sounds like guitars and drums not beeps and scratches that the genesis sounds like
I feel bad for people who only own ps consoles. Rare has never made a game for a sonu console. They made PC games, Nintendo games, Sega games, and Microsoft games.
Cartoon Duo's? You already did Ren and Stimpy Uhh, Goof Troop vs. Toe Jam and Earl? No idea what the next episode could be And I don't think I've ever been so happy to see someone chug a beer
Retromancers Cool. And yeah, been subscribed to you guys for a while. Not sure if you remember but I asked you for advice when we were starting out. And you were kind enough to help. So thanks again!
Console Wars I loved the vid but...It seemed like there was mutiple pauses where sentences used to fit in, again this might be your new "style" and I'm okay with that, but just know that your explanations and sentences were a bit bare...Otherwise Awesome video can't wait to see more! 💘 DEKO
Console Wars Maybe you should do something where both of you get switched (for one day) and Dan does SNES and Greg does SEGA, of course make your own skit up for it. Just a idea
U guys deserve more followers. I know the show is a bit cheesy. But it’s a very good cheese. Something u could gift to a loved one or friend. I laugh out loud quite often at your shows.
I had this game on both as a kid- or rather I owned on Sega then after getting an SNES soon after, I borrowed a copy, and I give this game to SNES. The gradient coloring is better (as was typical SNES vs Genesis) and for this game music quality makes the biggest difference. When you listen to level 3 (best song in the game) the difference is huge. Gen version can keep those SFX for that tinny version of the song. I do agree both played exactly the same.
I remember growing up playing this on SNES and Genesis. My friends always opt to play the SNES version. It was always the prefer version to play. The sound and music got us pump and graphics helped. The Genesis version was passed on (Sorry Mike, now you know why no one played your version (Mike childhood friend - Neighbor).
Gonna recommend you guys to every one I know, and every gamer group I am affiliated with. So, expect like two or three more subscribers. Including me. Hehe seriously though, I've watched and liked every episode now, and I think you deserve a lot more exposure. Even though your subject matter is contentious, I find your observations echoing my own long held opinions as an older gamer and fan of both consoles. I don't get that with Screw Attack and even AVGN rubs me the wrong way on certain topics. (Particularly Castlevania 2...) I hope fortune smiles upon you, and you get the recognition you deserve.
You guys are my heroes when it comes to comedic writing and production value. As far as the final contest it was a really close call, had to go back and confirm a few times even with the replay/enhancements. Great episode!
Fadedragontear Thanks dude! And you're def our hero. You helped us out in the beginning when we had zero subscribers. Forever grateful.
Wonderful Toads
I wish they bring back that Toad guy puppet he's so cute and funny

Seeing the Game Vs Game and On The Stick guys making a cameo was a really nice surprise.

You didn’t say segas sound effects sound like farts... that’s my favorite part of any comparison lol
I might agree in this game Genesis music sounds very pumping 8)
Love crossovers and especially the cameos in this episode.
Great concept. Subscribed.
+Stephen Bianchi Nice!
Man does this channel Rock! Thank you both for keeping with it!
"Can you imagine a surgeon called "Bub"?"
Great episode! Always loved this game! I got it as a birthday present back in the 90’s.
one of the best videos yet, cant wait to see what else you guys are gonna do in the future
DeViiaTe Thank You!
Love your videos. You dudes bring back lots of good memories of the good 'ol 90's. Keep up the good work! :D
AcidBong We just can't let go of the 90's.
That drink-off at the end was brilliant!
Also the "Up, up, down, down, go oil yourself up!" cheat code ;)
You are doing a great job with these VSs!
This a very refreshing approach to the timeless war between super and genesis.
I am more an arcade guy (as you can see in my youtube channel), but I really appreciate your videos.
Keep up the good work!
Arcade Videogames Thanks!
Great video guys. I had to say that both games are a lot of fun. Plus a BIG relief to the original Battletoads. All in all, keep up the good work.
***** Thanks a lot!
Thanks for having me cameo, guys! Great video.
On the Stick And Thanks again for doing it!

i cant wait for this channel to get bigger because people are really missing out on these videos! Good Luck with your channel
***** Thanks! We can't wait either.
You guys are informative and funny! A great combo!
Thanks!
Console Wars im getting my First Genesis (I'm a kid XD) Any recommendations gamewise? (Also getting a Dreamcast so recommendations for that would also be nice) BTW Great Channel Guys :D
ive only played the NES and SNES version. But during that sound segment... I give that a tie. They both had some nice tunes.
Love you guys can't wait gor the next one .thanks for making my day
***** Glad you enjoy!
Woot! My boys are back! Another excellent video guys. Love your content!
Mizzah Tee Thanks dude!
Shadowrun (SNES) vs Shadowrun (GEN)
Finally! I waited soooo long for the new episode! Awsome as usual guys ;)
abdul WARETH Laham Thanks!
Great episode guys, been waiting for this one. Genesis having the better sound though??? I thought for sure SNES would win that. Also - Up, Up, Down, Down, oil yourselves up was hilarious.
Wade Wilson do you know what takes me out of immersion? Horrible music.
Just Another Guy just another fanboy. Lol
@@untested3344 which the Genny version doesn't have.

I rented this at blockbuster back in the day also. Many Genesis games I rented back in the day. Too bad that video stores are all gone now.
Y hasn't there been a battle toads movie or Zelda ,contra,or metal gear
up up down down oil yourself up yooooo ctfu! those buls crack me the fuck up every episode. good shit as always fellaz
The NES version has the missing sounds the SNES version lacks too. Kinda funny.
Great video as always and by seeing the differences you pointed i also couldn't tell what game was better.
LOL at the Dog walking through the shot at 1:45 didn't it know you guys were shooting? Awesome episode!!!! so happy i found this channel

Christopher Hensley Thanks!
Love this show! You guys need more subs man, you deserve it.
Hilarious epsiode as always. Enjoyed Game Vs. Game's cameo.
And this is the first time a game is declared a Tie. =)

I didn't really have a problem using X and A on the SNES version. In the Genesis version, I either had to go with backwards controls or have my thumb reach further than it usually does. I like the SNES controls more.
Here's a request that I think you guys would totally be into: Megaman 7 on SNES Vs. Megaman: The Wily Wars on Genesis
You guys rock with this show. I have a suggestion for an episode;
Sparkster (Genesis) vs. Sparkster (SNES)
TripleCCC05 On the list!
You guys are quickly climbing the list of my favorite youtubers. Seriously, the production values of your show match with the ones from much bigger channels, and you keep releasing better and better videos.

To think this channel only has 66k subs is a source of great consternation to me.
Us too!
I take a drink every time these guys say 'better'.
For me complete sound & music is more important than slightly better graphics. The boss music especially adds to the experience.

Good comparison. You covered the important details.
The boss music on the Sega Genesis always pumped me up! The best way to beat the game is on 1-player with a Double Dragon, get all the items and use the jump kick ;)
Yeah,Well job done guys!!! now could you please compare the "Earthworm Jim 2" versions??????????? can't wait for that one
Video game crossovers don't suck.
I actually kinda prefer the SNES version's lack of sound effects. It makes the audio feel more like a smooth groove than a chaotic mess.
Awesome episode! It was nice to see a tie, didn't quite expect that. Do Boogerman next :).
Honestly, in this case I think the music sounds cooler and fits the game better through the Genesis sound chip.
Good episode. Here's a few games I can think of that you guys can do...
WWF Super Wrestlemania
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters
Great episode as always guys! Here's a few suggestions for future episodes
Sonic 3 and Knuckles VS Mario World
Rocket Knight Adventures VS Sparkster
Fatal Fury
Mega Bomberman VS Super Bomberman
Mortal Kombat 2
Thunder Force IV VS Super R Type
Mega Turrican VS Super Turrican
Gunstar Heroes VS Cybernator
Phantasy Star IV VS Final Fantasy VII
WOW! YOUR FIRST TIE! CONGRATULATIONS GUYS!
Talking about Double Dragon.....what about Double Dragon vs Super Double Dragon?
Keep it up guys, very nice and funny channel.
Here's an idea for an episode:
Instead of a SNES port vs Genesis port, how about turning it inside out and doing a Gameboy port vs a Game Gear port?
Great games. Great episode.
The music on those sega synths is BUMPIN!
I love this series :3
I still debate with my friends over The Lion King xD
There should be no debate. Sega definitely wins there. More screen real estate and much better controls.
@@reploid2953 Shut Up!

+Phantom Drags Well Sony is leading the console wars so maybe that's a good sign?

And I don't think I've ever been so happy to see someone chug a beer

NES and Game Boy both have chiptune music while SNES and Genesis both have red book soundtracks.

I am surprised you never mentioned the textures. The Sega version looks way better on some levels, especially the rocket level.

The music is a tie for me. I love the SNES's crisp and clear quality, but I love the Genesis's gritty heavy metal tone.
T2 The Arcade Game -- Kind of surprised you didn't do that seeing as how the new movie is coming out so soon.
