This crossover is what the home market needed. It is so sweet seeing these two series combine forces, on an awesome adventure. Wild how in depth it could go beyond the regular entries. Totally agree this crossover deserves a sequel
This was everything I wanted the original Battletoads to be: half straight brawler, half wacky gimmick levels, and toned down difficulty so that mere mortals could beat it. Just a shame the production values weren't as high as the original Battletoads. If they could have gotten that level, it would have easily been a top 5 or 10 NES game.
The odd thing is that Bootsy from Bootsy Beats on Cinemassacre (The Silver Surfer vid) considers this harder than either Battletoads or Silver Surfer. Not sure why, as like you said, it’s a much more approachable game. The Asteroids shump level can be tough though, and the final Dark Queen boss is a lot tougher than in the original nes game. In which you just wait for her to stop spinning and pummel her 2-4 times each cycle. Takes time, but a far easier fight than in this game, in which you have to carefully watch where she will appear from in the ground and similar.
This is the best game ever hands down i grew up on it. As a kid i knew nothing about any of the characters or any of the franchises or anything i was just happy to play the game and i loved it
There is No way this game is bad. It has it's fans especially the fans of the original battletoads and double dragon NES games. I think the critics have became bias so far. They're also bias about bubsy by giving the genesis version of the original bubsy game a 5 out of 5, and awarded bubsy as "best new character of 1993" like, what the actual F***!? I don't know what were they smoking when they praised a bad game like bubsy.
I'm surprised how colorful and nice the Genesis version is. Usually western developers didn't use the Genesis color palette properly. but this one looks great.
@@Lightblue2222 It is. As far as I'm able to tell, this may have been the very first video game crossover between IPs from separate companies. (beating X-Men Vs. Street Fighter by three years)
I notice that throughout the game footage, the player kept hanging from the edge to knock off enemies whenever one popped up. You don't have to do that. I can stand above them and stomp on the hands and make them drop off.
I loved this game as a kid. My friend and I would die laughing during the weird turning into a wrecking ball portion cause it was so easy to accidentally knock one another off the wall or while swinging and it was hysterical to us for some reason lol
Finally beat this game on my Gameboy Color. The music has stayed with me forever. Whenever I’m having a rough day or just in the zone at work getting stuff done, the theme plays in my head. It’s so badass..
Oddly enough, I played this before I played any of the other Battletoads or Double Dragon games. To my surprise I was playing the best entry out of either franchise right out of the gate.

Joey Wyatt Ah, my kids enjoyed the new Battletoads because it was essentially a playable Cartoon but that's the only reedeming factor of the game: My kids enjoyed it.
Funny in hindsight that that one journalist thought that Double Dragon was in the past while Battletoads was the new hotness, considering that Battletoads was about to have its last entry (an unfinished arcade game that wasn't widely released at that) for 26 years after this game, while Double Dragon would have a cartoon series and a live action movie in 1994, two (or three) one on one fighting games, a GBA remake, an XBox 360 remake, a widely known fan-game starring Abobo, and new entries in the series on PS3 and PS4.
The Dragons and Toads essentially serve as Normal and Hard modes. The Lee Twins have a useful jumpkick which the Toads do not. Conversely, the game rewards you for playing as the Toads by giving you more in-depth animations. You can choose between a standard game with a steady difficulty or a truly hard game with greater charm.

Never played much of the Double Dragon games. I had never even heard of Battletoads until I bought a SNES from a neighbor in the early 2000s. I ended up with both Battlemaniacs and Battletoads/Double Dragon. Both pretty fun games, I never got super far though since theyre pretty difficult. The crossover actually makes a ton of sense, put together 2 fairly popular beat'em up franchises. I wouldn't have ever even thought of the idea. Cross overs are always cool when they're done at least some what well. Also, until this video, i had no idea there was a NES version of the game

Owned this for SNES as a kid! Crazy but the music stuck with me for 25 years +. As for the game, holy crap was way too hard, but I was a glutton for punishment.
I only played this game because of the double dragon bros, but it didn’t take long for me to realize it’s just an official Rom hack of battletoads with Bimmy and Jimmy slapped in, it’s not a bad game but it feels too much like battletoads for my taste when I wanted more double dragon action instead, needless to say I do not particularly like RARE style.
juice hedgehog Same here. I like it, but I was always more of a Double Dragon fan. I’m surprised they didn’t make a sequel that played more like Double Dragon. Usually in these crossovers, they make a second one to please both fan bases, This was actually the first Battletoads game I ever played.
No asked for it because nobody though about it but thank God somebody did. This was one of best additions to 2 of very successful franchises.
5:12 when tradewest logo come out covering the driving level,i feel so uncomfortable,im still in the shadow of this game
One of the weirdest crossovers I've ever seen.
I still play the nes version of this game!
