Double Dragon! The game where you beat up everybody on the street, even your own brother! Glad you finally tackled this! Got the Zeebo version and iOS/Android version on my channel. Gonna do an online 2 player play through of the iOS version soon! Give it a look if you have a chance, sir!🎩
This game completely changed my life. And yes. I was 10 yrs old at that time...... I remember the HUGE sounds and music that came from any arcades, this cabinet was installed in. There were around 20x times more kids around this cabinet, then on any other machine....
Exactly. Billy wore blue, Jimmy wore red. Blonde hair and brown hair swapped on some ports, specifically super double dragon, though their colors remained the same.
Nice Video remember this coming out as a kid and first time going to the Arcade and spending time entire time watching the older kids play Double Dragon. Actually just bought the arcade classic the from the switch eShop last night I think on sale for like $2. Now I can't waitto play through. Probably spend 20 hours of my childhood watching other people play but never had the chance myself. Every time we walk to the arcade there would be a line to play I was too young to be allowed to play.
I was out of checking your channel for more of one year due to personal reasons, good sire. I really appreciate your love for videogames and your uniqueness on your approach. You're among the best on video games RUclipsrs.
The additional Double Dragon games, 2,3&4 Super Double Dragon. It’s the series that defined my childhood and played them a lot with my brother and cousin. Good times...good times. Great video as always.
So many great 10 year old memories playing this game with my cousin in the dingy basement of a local restaurant! So many in fact that I built a full size replica.
A childhood fav of mine, my buddy and I put so much coins in the machine, when it came out. I just did a quickie on my mega drive after watching this vid. It is easy as pie, and I can finish it blindfolded, with my hands tied behind my back, but it’s one of those games that instantly put a smile on my face the moment I see the title screen...
Part of the appeal was the colorful characters. Red and blue players standing out from the crowd. A distinct look with the nice backgrounds and enemy characters. Not forgetting the crunchy sound effects and catchy music. I got hooked on this the first time I saw it on the arcade.
Back in '87, this game was an obsession for kids in the arcade. When I went to an arcade, this was the first game me and my friends would head toward. Up until recently when playing it years later on an emulator, I never realized how short the game actually is.
Double Dragon was one of the first games I ever played on PC back in the early 1990's. Somehow it was always found somewhere on the school network along with Snake and Starglider. I know that this was not exactly top end gaming (even for the time) but it was about as much as you could expect to run on RM Nimbus machines that had been donated to the school.
The Atari 2600 version was on an Activision collection I bought for the PC in the 90s on CD-ROM. Insane difficulty level. I have played a few different versions of Double Dragon. That one is by far the hardest.
Andrew Vrba people are familiar with Castlevania Rondo of Blood, Valis Soldier of Fantasm, Magical Pop’n, and Star Parodier, none of which was released outside of Japan if I’m not mistaken.
The Double Dragon franchise lives on forever via the Openbor (Open Beats Of Rage) engine with afew PC games thrown in as well, there are so many DD mods on that engine out there.
Have you done SNK vs Tatsunoku or Capcom or something like that? It's been a while since I played it, which is why I can't remember what the title exactly was.
I remember enough from this in the 80's arcades that it really did visually impress next to its contemporaries, as if they allocated higher quality nicer CRTs to it. And that it was quite the slog with two players..
I recently revisited Double Dragon for the NES and the game is still enjoyable today. It even motivated me to figure out and make a video on mastering the death wall in Mission 4
The elbow smash is incredibly cheap in this game. You can make it past the first stage without even being hit if you use only this move, and make it to the beginning of the final stage without dying if you master this OP move👌🏾
One thing to also note is that Double Dragon is the first game to use the "double tap" feature in a game. Weirdly, not for running though, but for headbutt, which would always come out by mistake on dodgy old arcade joysticks. You also didn't mention that the gfx style is based on the Hokuto No Ken / Fist Of The North Star style with the barren wasteland and Billy and Jimmy and their clothing basically looking like Shin and Kenshiro. The GBA box art for Double Dragon advance is the biggest nod to Fist Of The North Star by far.
2:07 OMG I love this game as a Kid, it was in my bootleg Famicom, there was 5000 games (20 that repeated) and I love this one please make a video about it please my TopHat
Do the modern double dragons (Double dragon neon and others). My favorite one was the Double dragon that was created for the iPhone in 2010~...just wish I could play with a controller
Hey, Top Hat Gaming Man! Can you please do a video on Battle Circuit? This was the last beat 'em up game Capcom made for the Arcade. You really should do a video on that game!
When I hear the patron list read out.... I seriously always think “this guy isn’t stopping to take a breath... sounding like the scatman dance single” 😂🤣🕺🏽
Renegade was inspired by Nekketsu Kouha Kunio-Kun, a 1986 game. That game made the Beat-em Genre, Double Dragon came later. River City Ransom had a Double Dragon Boss Fight with their Theme music.
For my money, Double Dragon on the GBA is the defacto version to play. At it's core this is a remake of the original game but with elements from the sequels sprinkled such as new moves and more levels. Even some of the original staff were tapped to make sure the game had that classic arcade feel. Because it's a portable game getting 2P is a little more work, but worth the effort.
What the hell? Renegade came first? Holy Mandella Effect Batman, I definitely remember it being the other way around. Also, it seems like the NES port was what they went for the canon of the cartoon.
Totally loved playing the arcade version somewhere in the early nineties.. I was so happy I bought/received Double Dragon at home! Tape version..for my C64.. The horrors! Everlasting loading screens... The graphics..!? Superstrong enemies..😂😂🤣🤣 Nowadays I've got DD almost on all my systems (DD fan..😅). It's real fun to see and play all those different versions of DD. 🙂 [fanboy mode off😅]
if i remember one of the devs, if not the game director himself, was quite the martial arts fan, and he based some of the story elements in the game off of his time getting into fights as a youth. sadly, this just rumor as i cannot remember where i heard this and that was years ago anyways.

@@TopHatGamingManChannel Thanks again!
Super Double Dragon is criminally underrated. I have it on SNES mini.
agreed!!!!
Yes it is and was fun to play
Crump’s Brother wow
Absolutely!!!👍👍👍
Class game! And the soundtrack is an absolute snes classic!!
One beat'em up i would like to see reviewed is the punisher.
Billy wears blue, Top Hat, Jimmy wears red (and in the NES version had the alias "Shadow Boss"). They later had an animated cartoon based off of it.
@@theodorehsu5023 That's news to me. thx!
i was in elementary school when Double Dragon came out and it's a legendary game! 💪
I was in Elementary school too! I remember it being so popular!
Is the original rygar arcade game a beat em up? Kind of but not really
I was in elementary school too when the original Double Dragon arcade game came out in 1987👍👍🐉🐉
I remember beating that green version of Abobo with just headbutts to impress a bird i was going out with

I think you mean Billy was the protagonist and Jimmy was the main villain.
Lol I was just about to post the same thing
I was also going to say the same thing!
Marion was always Billy's girl.

Once I learned the elbow punch technique, I was able to beat the arcade version with one quarter / token.
Super double dragon was my absolutly favorite snes game ever and The best snes song ever most epic sound ( truck mission ) super double dragon 😍
The patriarch of the beat'em up! I'd never played anything like it when it came out, although I was a huge fan of Kung Fu Master back in the day too.
Can't wait for you to cover both of Capcom's epic Dungeons and Dragons beat 'em ups!
What, have you been following me around or something? 100% of like your last ten videos are exactly what I’ve been playing.

I love the NES versions - the combination of platform style and beat-em up. Such a big part of my life and so much nostalgia.
Mine was streets of rage. Hooked back in 1991. Waking up before school and trying to finish the game. Haha
Streets of Rage 2 was and still is the best in the series!
Man, I loved this game so much back in the day. I probably should've named my son Bimmy.
Back in '87, this game was an obsession for kids in the arcade. When I went to an arcade, this was the first game me and my friends would head toward. Up until recently when playing it years later on an emulator, I never realized how short the game actually is.
I have it on my PS4. I use it to waste time while I let games install.

Panty shot when they kidnap the girl at the begining, and again when she hugs the dude at the end. Taito is perverts, lol
That made it worth playing 😊
"Bimmy and Jimmy" lol☺️☺️🤣. If the actual company that made the game cant get it right why should you? Lol

You forgot the GBA remake... also I believe the game came out for the Atari 2600, which is quite ambitious.

The Atari 2600 version was on an Activision collection I bought for the PC in the 90s on CD-ROM. Insane difficulty level. I have played a few different versions of Double Dragon. That one is by far the hardest.
Maybe the GBA remake was excluded for not being titled "Double Dragon".
The GBA remake got its own video.
Now that you’re doing Double Dragon, PLEEEEASE, do a video on the PC Engine version of Double Dragon 2, it’s criminal how overlooked that game is.
You can blame NEC/TTI for that. Had they ported it to the US and Europe, it would be better known.

I recently revisited Double Dragon for the NES and the game is still enjoyable today. It even motivated me to figure out and make a video on mastering the death wall in Mission 4
Definitely.
It's an awesome game you can finish in 15 to 20 minutes, ideal if you are a busy person.
The NES version did have a two player game, it was a one on one fighting mode, similar to a stripped down fighting game.
That not the same thing as an actual co-op two player mode within a scrolling beat 'em up environment.
Double dragon was my gaming childhood.
This was the best on the sega master system
The elbow smash is incredibly cheap in this game. You can make it past the first stage without even being hit if you use only this move, and make it to the beginning of the final stage without dying if you master this OP move👌🏾

Arc System Works also went on to acquire Double Dragon & Kunio Kun years after Technos went bankrupt.
