    I wouldn't so much say that this is an answer to Streets of Rage so much as a blatant parody of Final Fight, and the entire Capcom Beat 'em up library up to that point. Everything right down to sprite size, the color pallet, even the fonts and energy bars. And if there isn't enough proof that Konami isn't throwing shade at Capcom, one of the henchmen is even called "Ryuken."

    • @HOJUX11
      @HOJUX11 4 года назад +22

      Agreed. This has nothing to do with Streets of Rage and everything to do with Final Fight. I do love the game though, that level three rap song is the greatest thing ever.

    • @creativecatproductions
      @creativecatproductions 4 года назад +12

      I agree, this looks way more like a Final Fight parody.

    • @GryphonICD
      @GryphonICD 4 года назад +4

      Eh, the answer to Final Fight would have been Crime Fighters and Vendetta, both of which were released before Violent Storm after the success of Final Fight. SoR2 however was being released around the time Violent Storm turned up. Although looking similar, the speed, controls and responsiveness feel different from FF to this title.
      Also have to remember, a lot of sprites were this size by 1994, which was pretty saturated by arvade beat 'em ups. The colours, which were mostly pastel shades, were also a lot brighter and more cartoony (Konami beat 'em ups were well known for their cartoon style humour).

    • @esmooth919
      @esmooth919 4 года назад +1

      That comparison still holds weight to a certain extent, because Streets of Rage was created as an answer to Final Fight

    • @mightyfilm
      @mightyfilm 4 года назад

      In a roundabout way, indeed correct. Without Streets, there wouldn't be a Final Fight, so there wouldn't be something directly ragging on the competition. I also kind of, but not entirely, find Monster Maulers sort of an answer to Capcom's fighting competition games. Only through the lens of taking Street Fighter type mechanics and applying them to their sort of formula for Beat'Em ups. All the while being a gentle parody of Japanese kids' programming the game designers clearly grew up with.

    Idk man this game seem way more in line with final fight than streets of rage.
    This are clearly Cody hagar and guy clones and the story is basically final fight meets double dragon

    This game was at my local pizza shop and I would play it every day after school when i was a kid. I could never remember the name of it years later. The only thing I remembered was that it was fun and the music kicked ass. I finally found the name after a lengthy online search and played it on MAME. Konami was damn near untouchable in the 90's.

    For a one-off game, this title has a lot of nice little things happening in the background as well as a moveset that rivals the one Streets of Rage or even Final Fight 2 has.
    Plus extras like cartoon effects too, like getting actually flattened or spun around and dizzied, various little blink and you'll miss it expressions from the cast and enemies, and there's actually a convo that's voiced, something that's rare in games of that era!

  • @etrotm12thebluewolf15

    Now this video is a treat! I already tired out crime Fighters and Vendetta (Or Crime Fighters 2 in Japan) and i love them both (Cant wait for you to talk about a certain something that goes on in the Japanese versions if you catch my drift lol) And you shown other games i would like to try out too!
    But yeah about Violent Storm, This game looks fun and also how you explained it, it also seems hilarious to some degree when looking at this as a parody of Beat em Ups (While missing the lift section). I can also see why it can be considered a "Crime Fighters 3" as well. I would too honestly. I can also agree maybe the sprite are a bit too big (The sprites was what i noticed first) and im curious about the music. Definitely trying this out!

    Hello! Big Daddy TopHat, YEAAAAA
    So October is around the corner, and is a really spooky one straight out of a Geroge A Romero film, if you know what i mean. Although my poorman's economy wont allow me to support your excellent work on patreon i will dare to suggest anyways a few horror themed beat em ups that probably you already have on your list, like the excellent and underated Night Slashers or even the Splatterhouse series, would be really cool to cover on your channel. There are probably a couple more horror BEU's but those are the only ones that come to my mind at the moment. Greets from Mexico. Keep it up mate. Have a nice one.

    I loved the games Crime Fighters and Vendetta. It's likely I'd have loved this game, too had I found an arcade machine of it. Crime Fighters had great sights of characters being shocked by signs and squashed by signs and steam rollers. Vendetta had weird items like cacti and flour bags to use as weapons. Both games featured kicks to the balls and the pained reactions of the characters. FWIW, when I played this game a few years ago with two teenage girls, they loved it when I showed them how to do the kick to the balls.

    This is Final fight ultimat, I dont see similarity with Streets of Rage.
    I used to make it to the final boss with 1 coin but it was hard to defeat with one coin, if you finish the game you start over.
    My favorite character was Borris, you need to play the game to know why, a real beast.
    I always hated final burn alpha (ports on xbox, ps3...) for not being compatible with this game, but its compatible with MAME.
    Thanx for the nice video.

    Why does Violent Storm looks like it fits on a Capcom CPS board?

    I wish the characters had a greater degree of contrast to the level. It looks great, but sometimes the action gets messy because colors and shapes tend to blend together a little bit.
