Never knew about DD V. I remember the animated series somewhat, it was okay. Just looks so bizarre, seeing DD as a fighter instead of what it was before. Some funky character designs. Uh what were they thinking?
In think is time to reboot Double Dragon with the following concept: 2.5D brawler with better graphics, better movement, better gameplay and better storyline like Street Of Rage 4, 3D graphics like Fighting Force, Open world adventure like GTA
When you said there was no "Double Dragon 4", I had to point out that Super Double Dragon is technically the fourth game in the series, despite that it was never titled as such. So in a peculiar sense, Super Double Dragon is Double Dragon 4.

Interesting video Richard, a lot of info there I didn’t know. I’ve got to hunt the movie now 😛 The game as you rightly say is nothing more than a shameless cash grab with no imagination or usp and is most definitely a disgrace to the franchise. Enjoyed that 🙂
I never really liked Double Dragon V to be honest, and it certainly hasn't aged good at all imo. Will you make a feature on Double Dragon IV as well? i hope so.
Absolutely f**king love this guy. I'm a long time subscriber and I automatically hit the thumbs up button on every video. I honestly think this is one of the best channels on RUclips. Keep it up brother.
I remember my first experience seeing this game. It just showed up one day in BlockBuster, none of my friends knew it was coming either. I looked at the front, looked at the back and thought WTF is this? No resemblance to DD just the label tacked on and as much as I loved Double Dragon I never played this. Eventually I watched gameplay footage of it years later on RUclips out of curiosity and confirmed it was a bad joke.
Double Dragon 1 is my favorite in the series mainly because all of the time I put into it as a kid. I actually enjoyed Super Double Dragon because I liked the mechanics but it could have been a faster game. There's an updated Rom Hack of the game called Legend of Double Dragon that's epic and I wish more people knew about it...
To be a dragon you gotta be strong, humble never bragging. Always fight for right battling wrong, with the power of the dragon. Live the code, the code of the dragon. Fight for right, the might of the dragon. With the mark, the mark of the dragon. Live the code, the code of the dragon.
I don't have an issue with whichever country takes the property and try to do something with it. The problem lies with the quality of Double Dragon V, which was seriously terrible.
Yes! This game was worse than Double Dragon 3. DD5 was such a disgrace, I don't even recognize it as a Double Dragon game. Double Dragon 4 on the other hand... HOLY MOLEY!! I didn't know about this game! This looks great!
I respectfully disagree, I LOVED that Double Dragon V The Shadow Falls fighting game on the SNES. It was actually one of my favorite underrated games on there. Sure some things about it are Mediocre, I agree with you on that but I didn't think it was that bad. It was an adaption from the Cartoon Series, That was the point as to where they were aiming with it. But I loved the characters and movesets they all had.
DD3 on the NES wasn't a bad game. The arcade version was bad but the NES port is quite competent. DD V however, it was a complete disgrace. Even as a generic fighting game it's not good. But once SF II mania hit EVERYONE wanted to have a clone of it out to try and grab some cash, the only thing that somewhat slowed that train down was the move to 3D by the mid 90's and Capcom's general unwillingness to innovate on SF II for a long time.
Double Dragon was the best Animated series ever. I watched on An Tv in Indonesia on cable here in the Philippines when we don’t have Skycable. It was aired on the I CHANNEL in 1994. I Channel was available on Skycable in 1994 for those who not yet born yet. But for Double Dragon 5 the video game. My goodness is so hard. Since the lockdown is already over around the world. What if there will be a Double Dragon fighting game for the PlayStation 4 for those big 3D fighting game fans. I wish you’ll going to discussed about Mega Man and the cartoon series based in the video game. And for those in the Philippines. Mega Man the animated series is not violent thank you 😡😡😡😡Sorry I angry at the Spanish drama series Marimar it was aired in the Philippines on RPN 9 in 1996. But the good news is they aired Mega Man the animated series on ABS CBN in 1997 in the Philippines . I’m a big Mega Man fan
This is 1 of outta the 4 or 5 video games i ever got brand new as a kid. I was sooo happy to leave sears back in the day with a butt kicking game. THINKING it was gonna be a beat em up style. After playing it...disappointment. I played it more than I should've. Had nothing on SFII though. I had to defend DDV when friends would come over. I'm sure i won't play it any time soon. It is what it was. Thanks for the video. Peace!-)
I remember liking this game, but only as a rental. It wasn't amazing or anything, just enjoyable enough for a few playthroughs. For the time there was a bit of cringe to it, because every major franchise wanted to be just like SF2.
I thought it was pretty dark.compared to the cartoon plus it had fatalities to boot and some of the music was quite good. I did have the genesis version, controls were quite tight as well, however the sprites were quite ugly and didn't look anywhere as good as the cartoon, and didn't have nearly enough characters
I really wanted to enjoy this game .... Kept forcing myself to play it..... As a result, despite its problems this game holds a special place in my heart. Nothing is better than double dragon 2 tho 👍
Hello, I would like to know where did our get the characters backstories info for this video. I have been searching for a time, but only videos o RUclips, is there a Wiki or is it on any phyiscial game box? Recently I remembered playing this during the early 2000's, in a computer that emulated Sega genesis games, so I got curious about the characters, especially my main who was Sekka, but this video kind of vanished the good memory I had of her, she is ineed a ripoff of other female fighting game characters...At least I still have Blaze Fielding from the SOR games
Okay but now I kinda want a terrible 3rd-party developed Mario game based off the cartoons. If it had really choppy and pixelated FMV like Hotel Mario, that too would be a plus.
I never liked Double Dragon games. Well, except for Battletoads and Double Dragon. I remember playing the first part of the first game where they abduct the girl, and I got my ass handed to me
For some reason I never liked the DD franchise. Possibly because my first exposure to it was through The Sacred Stones... Not to mention no matter how far the series went on the SNES, the animation was still clunky compared to most other beat 'em ups. At least most popular beat 'em ups. Once I came across the final fight and bare knuckle franchise, DD felt like a step back no matter which one I tried :/
I never knew that there was a Double Dragon 5. And looking at it, this game doesnt look very fun at all. The roster makes TMNT Tournament roster look good. An the animated series sounds like it has a decent story at least. Now i know the NeoGeo Double Dragon game wasnt the first time the series went 1V1. Im open to experimentation in a franchise but this one in particular is a HUGE let down. Anyone interested in a Double Dragon fighting game just play Double Dragon NeoGeo, Rage of the Dragons, or MUGEN.
i really wish big daddy left this one and concentrated on other good DD games like the neo geo one or the gameboy advance one, or the neon or DD4 the new one....this is just a bad game done by bad people at a bad time....
Well, theres 1 beat em up from the early 90s you've missed. Yes it's an arcade only title but thanks to roms and emulators, it's easy to get hold of. Konami's Vendetta
I was waiting for this one, just to make this comment. Whatever you can say about Captain N, Donkey Kong Country, Super Mario Bros Super Show, the Battletoads pilot, Street Fighter, or Mortal Kombat, at least they're sort of competently relevant to the games they were based off of AND that at worst, they're at least so bad they're funny. I can safely say, without a doubt, Double Dragon was the WORST cartoon based off a video game. Of course, you'd have a rough time making a kid's show about violent street gangs without some alteration, but why the hell were they made into Power Rangers? Why were the characters given bigger chins than The Tick? Ugly art style, bad writing, just overall incompetent translation of the games, and NOT even so bad it's good. It's boring and pointless and dreadful, and perfectly summed up by being a Sunday Morning Cartoon. Something you'd watch just to kill time because it's on. And barely at that.
The next game is pretty obvious: the Double Dragon fighting game on the Neo Geo. Chronologically next, and is actually a good fighting game to wash the taste out of our mouths.
In the end a child is able to beat this game, i remember how frustrating double dragon 3 was. oh and disappointing also, cause as a child you are not with much money and instead of that i could have bought castlevania :(

Never knew about DD V. I remember the animated series somewhat, it was okay. Just looks so bizarre, seeing DD as a fighter instead of what it was before. Some funky character designs. Uh what were they thinking?
In think is time to reboot Double Dragon with the following concept:
2.5D brawler with better graphics, better movement, better gameplay and better storyline like Street Of Rage 4,
3D graphics like Fighting Force,
Open world adventure like GTA
Big like from Old Nerd 👍😉
When you said there was no "Double Dragon 4", I had to point out that Super Double Dragon is technically the fourth game in the series, despite that it was never titled as such. So in a peculiar sense, Super Double Dragon is Double Dragon 4.
Yes. (Answer to the title of the vid)
- save you some time....
Life is about the journey...not the destination!
@@TopHatGamingManChannel oh fer sure... thats why i love driving. - and im still watching it in full.... but the answer remains as up top and maybe someone has very limited time as they are at the shop now at the till with copy in hand....wandering. .."hmmmm - should i?"
Yup.... thats why my comment was important. Wrestle me bout it?
It was better than DDIV. In fact I mess with DDV because I love fighting games. Now if only we could get a dream match fighting game for the whole series, including the characters from this and the NeoGeo game.
Interesting video Richard, a lot of info there I didn’t know. I’ve got to hunt the movie now 😛
The game as you rightly say is nothing more than a shameless cash grab with no imagination or usp and is most definitely a disgrace to the franchise.
Enjoyed that 🙂
Awesome video! Hope this means the Neo Geo game is next
Fatalities in a game... based on a kid’s cartoon. Dominatrix in a game based on a kids cartoon.... what were they smoking when they made this game?
Need to cover the mobile double dragon made by ark system works way long before they proceed to make the shitty double dragon iv
To be a dragon you gotta be strong, humble never bragging.
Always fight for right battling wrong, with the power of the dragon.
Live the code, the code of the dragon.
Fight for right, the might of the dragon.
With the mark, the mark of the dragon.
Live the code, the code of the dragon.
perfect end to a busy evening, THGM video and an American IPA.
All is well.
Keep up the good work fella and stay safe.
Awesome, did not know those emotes could be used in the comments too! Cool. We will probably stream again tomorrow evening!
@@TopHatGamingManChannel well worth the less than £2 a month. I’ll be tuning in tomorrow night if you do.
I don't have an issue with whichever country takes the property and try to do something with it.
The problem lies with the quality of Double Dragon V, which was seriously terrible.
The CPU is ridiculously inconsistent. In story mode, I can crush the first two opponents, then it gets crazy hard out of nowhere
Hey, Top Hat Gaming Man! Can you please cover Double Dragon for the Neo Geo MVS in a future video?
I would've accepted this version of them modeled after the cartoon if they had kept it a beat em up and made their mask and swords power ups
I like this cartoon a lot as a kid, Back then we didn't have many options
I think it's obvious which one you'll review next
I thought it was pretty dark.compared to the cartoon plus it had fatalities to boot and some of the music was quite good. I did have the genesis version, controls were quite tight as well, however the sprites were quite ugly and didn't look anywhere as good as the cartoon, and didn't have nearly enough characters
“Decent” series of games!!! Double Dragon is legendary!!!
I remember playing the first part of the first game where they abduct the girl, and I got my ass handed to me
I second this, then the last double dragon on neo geo, Rage of the dragon.
That was entertaining and educational.
Pls review Double Dragon for the Zeebo, he he
For some reason I never liked the DD franchise.
Shadow Master from this reminds me of the Shadow King from Marvel comics. While both of them seem to be the precursors to Aku
Double Dragon 5 needs an online play re-release.
Pls, Attention Double Dragon Fans and Richard... Check out.... Legend of Double Dragon or.... Better then ever ultimate Double Dragon. 👌🏾❤️
I wonder if he is gonna cover rage of the dragons o.o. Great video BTW I always look forward to these.
I'd like to see you cover DIC but perhaps that's an onlyfans exclusive?
i really wish big daddy left this one and concentrated on other good DD games like the neo geo one or the gameboy advance one, or the neon or DD4 the new one....this is just a bad game done by bad people at a bad time....
bad people lol!
@@TopHatGamingManChannel
Bad and greedy people who thought the cartoon would be a smash hit.
Well, theres 1 beat em up from the early 90s you've missed. Yes it's an arcade only title but thanks to roms and emulators, it's easy to get hold of.
Konami's Vendetta
As a shoot wrestling fan I wonder if there is any chance of you ever reviewing Saikyo Takada Nobuhiko for the Super Famicom... 🤔
Disgrace is putting it lightly.
Finally a game channel that worths following.
Suggestion. How about starting a segment where you do deep dives into older cartoons that where based off video games.
The next game is pretty obvious: the Double Dragon fighting game on the Neo Geo. Chronologically next, and is actually a good fighting game to wash the taste out of our mouths.
In the end a child is able to beat this game, i remember how frustrating double dragon 3 was. oh and disappointing also, cause as a child you are not with much money and instead of that i could have bought castlevania :(
I played Double Dragon V Shadows Fall hoping for a solid fighter. It was no street fighter 2, I'll tell you that much, haha!
I remember seeing this game in the Game Informer magazine. I always wanted it. I could never find it.
