    This video has subtitles! ヽ(*・ω・)ノ
    So, I got REALLY sick and had to spend 2 weeks in bed (;⌣̀_⌣́) I'm much better now but my voice still hasn't come back in full. HOWEVER! I couldn't really sit around just waiting for it to fully recover - who knows when that's going to be. This video has subtitles in case they'll be helpful (I plan to add subs for all my videos later), and you can always read the text version in my blog - shetanislair.com/en/posts/the-world-of-sekiro-miscellaneous-items-one

    I think aspects of the lore you mention here are very overlooked. Especially about the palace water, and sake. Glad you’re feeling better 🎉

    I encouraged a friend of mine to play through the game and he never, ever used Mibu balloons.
    So right up at the end when he was really struggling with the final boss fights, I told him that the one balloon would let him regain his revival gauge a bit faster. To this, he expressed, "But then won't I be cursed? If I use the balloon, it will only welcome more defeat and shame because then I will be a dirty balloon user."
    I laughed so much and now we both use being a 'dirty balloon user' to describe any situation where we refuse to use limited items in games.

      I never use consumables myself, though not because I think the victories won't count but because I can never remember that I have stuff in my inventory that can come in handy (⇀‸↼‶)

    "Horns" probably just refers to the slug's horns! It's an outdated term for their mandible thingies.

    Regarding the transformation of palace nobles and okami warriors I always assumed it was a male/female thing.
    But now that you make me think of it, the whole thing about worhsip of a god/entity that physically turns your body into something else is more in line with Miyazaki's vision, since we see that happen alot in the Dark Souls trilogy! (Velka's worshippers turning into crow-like creatures etc)

    • @shetanislair

      I also thought it to be a male/female thing but they are so incredibly different that I had my doubts („• ֊ •„)

      @@shetanislair Yeaaah, it also seems weird if all the population of the palace was just males before the okami arrived now that I think of it lol.

    Divine confetti actually being divine blizzard explains why it works so well with demon of hatred

    Regarding horns, they possess a lot of symbolism in japanese mythology. I don't think there's anything within Sekiro that has-oh hang on, there is.
    So you should definitely crosscheck this with actual sources, but the first thing I think of when I hear horns are "Oni". Oni, and their horns, are borne from a variety of things like murder, cannibalism, evil, hatred, and a desire for justice. Now, that sounds a little similar to Shura, and-hey there Demon of Hatred, look at those horns you have!

    • @MeneltirFalmaro
      @MeneltirFalmaro Год назад

      The dragon has horns, as Eastern dragons generally do. So do kirins, an even higher rank of nature spirit (and those are sometimes depicted with fur and not just scales, which could be connected to the hair on truly precious bait).

    I'm glad you're not using the "retranslation mod" from the Mod Nexus...it has a lot of problems and IMO causes more issues than it fixes.

    • @Duv1995
      @Duv1995 Год назад +3

      I actually made that mod lol, and I know its kind of a mess but it was originally a personal project i did for my own entertainment and I eventually ended up sharing it on the nexus.
      I based my translations of various reddit posts that seemed credible enough to me, but since then I have updated the mod with Shetani's insight from these videos, but decided not to upload it on the nexus because it doesnt seem fair. Btw if you have any tips and corrections to propose I would gladly hear them :3

      @@Duv1995 See, I figured your intentions weren't malicious. Most attempts at retranslations are not. A general rule of thumb is that you should check the credentials of people who claim to be translators and/or have them give examples of their work prior to putting them in a project.
      My only complaints are that certain historical/cultural references are either anachronistic or misidentified...I remember some items in the Palace suffering from this.
      I haven't played Sekiro in 3 years, mind you.

    • @Duv1995
      @Duv1995 Год назад +3

      @@serraramayfield9230 oh no wait! If you're talking about the Sekiro Proofread mod that has nothing to do with me then!
      It's the one that changes fountainhead palace to minamoto palace because of some ancient clan with that name if I remember right.
      I guess you were talking about that one since I didnt include any historical references and I only uploaded my mod just last year and the other one is around since a longer time...

    so fubuki means blizzard but it also means confetti?

    • @shetanislair
      @shetanislair  Год назад +1

      Fubuki just means "blizzard", but when you combine it with 紙 [kami] - paper, you get 紙ふぶき [kamifubuki] - confetti, literally "paper blizzard" (*¯︶¯*)
