I also remember being blown away the first time I reached Mt Kongo. The scenery, the music, the atmosphere, it was all just breath taking. Then after I had finished the game I found it somewhat underwhelming that the whole area pretty much just amounted to "bad monks strayed from Buddha's teachings and wanted immortality just like almost every other faction and character."
This video adds so much more context and depth and gives me so much more appreciation for the insane depth of Sekiro's lore and worldbuilding. Thank you for making these!

Wow, your interpretation adds to much to the tragedy of that place! I thought that the monks just wanted immortality too, and didn't consider there might be unreliable impressions. (Also I didn't even realize the scroll was being spoken through by the child, hahaha). No question the monks still did terrible things, but now I get why more clearly. Thanks for this!

On talking about the autumn leaves, I looked out my window to see if any Japanese maple leaves were still on. Almost all were gone, except for a few of the redder ones. It's the right time of year to be watching this video.
Religious architecture is such a complicated topic with a thousand different traditions, and it's really cool to see how they used that knowledge to make Senpou Temple feel more like a real place.

If the Centipede clan are gold miners, it's likely that the "star" they are searching for is a meteorite! Gold comes from space via meteors, and if you look at the walls underwater in Senpou, you can see that the land is absolutely saturated with gold ore.

    • @TheInfiniteAmo

Big if true, because that might imply the infestation of the Centipedes is from outer space and put Sekiro right back into Bloodborne crossover territory

I'm pretty sure there are two slightly different versions of "Holy Chapter: Infested". The one you can get from the Head priest and the one you can find at the bottom of the pond.
The one at the bottom of the pond is the one featured in the art book, both the English and Japanese descriptions have the note about giving it to the Divine child.
The one given by the Head Priest has the line about entrusting it to wolf in the Japanese description, but it's skipped in the translation.

yoooo a 40 minute Shetani Lair episode?
    Lets go
(Part of why this is so exciting is that Shetani tends to be concise, so longer episodes really do mean a lot is going to be conveyed and I love that)

I've been saying for awhile that the Divine "Child" of Rejuvenation is most likely older than her nickname and appearance suggests. She hid herself long enough for the self-mummified monks to be in the state they are in when Sekiro arrived, Kotaro who was most likely a fellow kidnapped children like the others but isn't experimented on is now also physically an adult with presumably the same age as Sekiro.
Along with your conclusion that she is possibly already in hiding since Lord Takeru is still around, I think it's fair to assume that she's likely to be part of, essentially the same age, as the second generation children gang consisting of Sekiro, Emma, Genichiro, Kotaro, Inosuke, and maybe even Takeru if he's still alive (though last one is a baseless assumption on my part). The game is clearly trying to tell a story about these children raised in wartime and how their upbringing and the people who raised these children, affected them; resulting in what they've become.
It's kind of fun (and sad) to think about an alternate timeline where they are all happy childhood friends and their foster parents kept good relationships with each other.

Regarding the offering tower in the abandoned dungeon, could it be that the inscription refers to the "stealing of the country" as it is usually called in japanese, and the ashina people got executed for taking part in the early stages of the rebellion?

Wait, why do you say Kuro and Takeru don't age? Is 'miko' only used to refer to children?

    • @shetanislair
      @shetanislair  Год назад +1

No, not necessarily, Jesus is also referred to as 御子 [miko]. I guess, my belief comes from the fact that Takeru came to the Ashina Lands (on purpose) with only an oathbound and was not in a familial relationship with any mortals, which means he was independent enough; they spent a lot of time there (enough for Tomoe to bring up Genichiro and teach him everything) but Takeru still got a small child's gravestone. Spiral Cloud Passage also describes him as having "little figure" = small height.
The game doesn't comment on whether or not Dragon Heirs age but personally, based on these observations, I think they don't. Should've worded it differently to stress that it's not an in-game fact, my bad (っ˘̩╭╮˘̩)っ

@@shetanislair Oh worry not, I was just curious about it!
The age of the characters is something I always think about while trying to piece together a timeline that makes the most sense for this game.
Divine Heirs not aging after turning 10-12 makes sense the way you put it, but it would fit for the events of the game to take place during a shorter span of time aswell.
I'm quite excited about the rumored Sekiro anime that should be announced soon, I wonder if we're gonna get more lore insights out of it!
