- Assembling the carb on a Honda GVC 160 in the right order. There should be a gasket on the engine side. In my case and many cases, the gasket is stuck to the engine.

7 years later, just saved my bacon! Appreciate it.
Awesome work!
Just helped me solve my Saturday issue, somehow the choke got stuck in an odd position and after removing to clean carb n try to figure it out I still couldn’t get it to run right. My mower is a newer version with a different choke linkage so it was confusing to see where it went, your vid showed me n helped me get it back together n running good now. Thank you!
Awesome, nice work!
Im having problems with the choke was yours moved up? Does it go over or under the little wire hook?
Three minutes, a perfect explanation no music good video no wasted dialogue. Hats off to you.
Thanks!
Bless you - Gaskets all fell off when I took the bolts out. After three frustrating days, and your video, lawn is mowed again.
good to hear Robert!
...I want to THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR POSTING THIS, it is EXACTLY 💯 WHAT I needed, you made it simple and easy for me to follow so thank you again for sharing and May God bless you!👍🇺🇸
Oh great!!
Thanks! My throttle spring came off and your vid showed me exactly where it attaches to the carb linkage.
That's awesome, I have done the same!
good video thanks I left off the metal flat plate works fine without it.I couldnt see the purpose of it.
This is perfect, trying to google a diagram is like reading Chinese, becuase of the placement of the gaskets!
Thank you for this. I pulled the carb to clean it, ripped a gasket, and when the new ones arrived, couldn't remember the order of assembly. After watching your video it took about 5 minutes to get everything back together and running.
Awesome, thanks everyone.
I took my carburetor out and cleaned it. All gaskets fell out. Input them back in. After the 3rd time I got it to run. Still ain't running right. Now that I have your video in the correct order I need to check again if I missed something. Thanks again for the video. New subscriber here from Philadelphia PA.
On the carb check the line screw on top. Under is a super fine jet. Needs to be checked. Use a wire brush stand to clean it. Good luck.
You explain this better than my coworkers do. I appreciate this video, you just helped my work day go by a bit better. Thank you.
Perfect! I just took mine apart today because the inner gasket was cracked. Im currently waiting on a new one, and this is a very helpful video on reassembly...Thanks!
Thank you. Your video was very helpful. My carburetor is back together (correctly), and my mower starts. 17years old and going strong.
Excellent, it’s been 3 years since I first liked this video! A good thing I did, My googling was not finding it yet there it was in my “liked” stuff. Another successful carb cleaning. Thanks again!
I want to thank you so much for this excellent video. You made this easy, I was not having luck with my attempt before watching you. Great job!
Glad to help!
Thank you . I cleaned my carb forgot to take pictures before I started. You saved my day !!
a good clear explanation ill be doing this tomorrow wiht a mower i got form a guy i assembled it wrong that plastic piece after teh carberator i put it on upside down its sucking in air
Thank you so much for this video! I had no clue how these gaskets went on! You the man!!
Good JOB. You went BACK AND SHOWED THOSE LITTLE DETAILS. Thanks
This is a difficult part of Honda carb reassembly and it's much appreciated , thanks .
Great job. Perfect. Thanks much. No one else shows correct gasket placement like you did.
This helped a lot. These gaskets were confusing. Thanks again. Now I've got to go out there and put them on right this time.
tell me about it..first time i had the gaskets and eveyrhting on right but left the fuel valve closed my first time with one of these. then customer brought it back and i turned the fuel line on but assembled the gaskets different so now its not starting again all i had to do was open the fuel line and it was done now i have to reassemble agian tomorrow..im my own domain
Sitting under the sun forgot the assembly order. Watched your video was a breeze...thanks.
Thanks Ridge Power!!! I put a new carb on my power washer and it ran like cr $q and leaked fuel all over the place. Took a second look after watching your video and now it runs like a top!!
Video is well done. Explained to a novice. Thanks.
Thank you needed this for pops lawnmower that he tore into already!
Thanks to you and this video, I can fix a problem created by a neighbor, who took my carburetor apart, last evening, and couldn't figure out how to put it all back together. I plan to use this video to reassemble it all, myself, after work today. Everything looked clean and the gaskets look fine
(the mower is only 15 months old) but it was surging a little. I think it was some old gas in the line. I had filled it with new gas and was waiting for it to cycle through to see if it stopped the surging problem.
You are welcome, you may need to clean the main jet if your mower is surging.
great instruction...right to the point ....no wasted time and concise. Thank you
Thank God I found this video. I was ready to procure goats to keep my lawn trimmed. This has been a gigantic, frustrating pain in my ass.
Very helpful video. Most of parts diagrams I found on line were confusing and did not look like the order shown here. Followed the order of assembly on video and mower started on first try. Thanks for the help.
Marty Smith Dodge nitro 2003 replacement part A
Thank you, I got this apart to check the carb over and could not for the life of me figure out the order of everything to get it back together. I didn’t realize the bolts were so long, so everything just fell apart when I pulled them out.
Thank you big.... help.
Thank you for video I took mine apart and could not get back together, your a life safer thank you for making this video
I guess nobody at honda has ever mowed a lawn. Who would have thought that a mower would kick up a bunch of dust that will clog the air passages in the carb if you use unfiltered air? Using bolts instead of studs for the carb mounting makes something that should be easy much more difficult. Honda made this engine to be cheap, not reliable. Great vid, I'm sure this has saved a lot of people a bunch of trouble.
Thank you. When I took the carb off all the gaskets and stuff just fell. Had no idea what went where other than the two outside gaskets.
Me, too. Very helpful!
Thank you! This helped me get a neighbor's mower back together the right way. 😁👍
Just what I needed. Thanks so much!!!
Well know I know my spacer on the back side is not on there right!! Thank you sir!
One Million thank you's!
Put a 3/16" dowel rod in the threaded holes on the engine block as you remove the studs to hold gaskets in their proper order.
When you re-assemble pull one dowel rod out then insert a stud and thread loosely then do the same for the other side and then tighten studs as needed.
Thanks Ben, great idea! Or, anything that fits to keep these parts in the proper order. Thanks man.
I got sick and tired of that damned carburetor shroud. It's absolutely useless and just restricts your access to the carb. The outer part obviously is needed to hold the air cleaner on but the rest of it is just a Honda CYA thing to cover the gasoline holding carb that might get hit by a stone that sees the mower coming and jumps up out of the way and smashes into it.
I took my trusty Dremel with cutoff wheel to it. Amazingly, the carburetor hasn't even exploded yet ... but it's only been 10 years.
I do same but with an M6 threaded stud bolt … thread the stud bolts in … add each successive gasket etc… then holding the housing firmly in place, un screw and remove the stud bolt and replace with the bolt … makes life much easier
The most helpful video for this carburetor but you missed the gaskets on each side of the hard plastic plate that fits against the block
One gasket is stuck on the block, which happens often when doing these motors. then the plastic plate, this model has a large gasket next which also blocks heat. So they are all there. Thanks!
This was so helpful and the best one out there
Awesome. Thank you! I got them all out of order.
Very good video! Hope for more video about this lawn mower as I have the same one. I would like to know how to clean and maintain the carburetor, spark plug etc. Please record a video next time you do something with this lawn mower/ engine. Thanks a lot!
Thank you, couldn't have done it without you!
Thanks for taking the time to put this video together.
Thanks for sharing this as the gaskets were in wrong and sucking in air
What’s difficult is this terminology you use.
“This plastic piece here...this hose...”
Someone get me Rosetta Stone.
😂
Only kidding...thanks for the video!
So, the ancient Egyptians must have also used lawn mowers!
Just kidding.
same situation as Chris Thompson. Thanks very much for this
Glad I looked at the video before doing the job. Clear and to the point. Thanks.
Thank you for this!!! Sincerely needed it!
Thank you i had the gasket order wrong just like the others very helpful video.
Thanks for your help -much needed
very good tutorial on how to reassemble the Honda intake assembly for the carburetor, the only thing that I would caution people on Is an impact driver ( better to take a few minutes longer in hand tighten those bolts) on those bolts that hold the carburetor assembly together, those impact guns are very powerful, and they will pull the threads out of that aluminum block. Just ask me, I'll tell you how to re-thread those bad boys.. lol
the gasket installation procedures kind of easy if you sit and think about it for just a minute. All your trying to do is create a seal in between 2 objects, and other words you will take the gasket material put it for example :between the metal bracket, and the housing for the air cleaner. And you would repeat the procedure for every place that one thing meets another. The gasket material going between those places. So obviously after you finish putting the bracket on, you want to put gasket material between the metal bracket, or metal spacer, and then the carburetor, and then between the carburetor, and the heat separator, and so on. As I said before excellent video, carry-on keep up the good work my friend. Thank you.
Good advice!! Thanks for watching!!
helpful thanks for the close shots and explaination
Love you man. Thanks!
Hey man I just want to thank you you help me out a lot With You video you saved me a lot of money thank you 🤗🤗👍🏻😎
Back out to the shop. I know darn well I got them out of order! Should have looked it up first.
thank you sir,, sure did save the day.. i appreciate your knowledge..
Very nice. Keep up the good work
Fantastic video! Exactly what I needed when I was struggling to put a new carburetor on my pressure washer and wasn't sure about the order or orientation of all those gaskets. Thank you for taking the time to make this video and share your knowledge.
Hallelujah, this is the video I’ve been looking for!!! You save my day. I’m subscribing
Nice, I am working on another just like it!!
Thank you very much!!
The worst design of Honda engines are these GCV engines to remove and reassemble the carburetor gaskets.
On certain GCVs like on Ryobi pressure washers the spacer has no holes in it and you only use two gaskets
Remember the order and its a piece of cake
IT runs like new
THanks so very much
Perfect video!!!
Tks!
VERY helpful & hands not obstructing view Thank You
very helpful video, thank you.
Great video. help me a lot as well
Allowed me to get the new carb on the mower and have it running again.
Thank you.
There is a gasket directly on the intake unlike this one on mine, the plastic piece on mine does not go directly mating with the intake.
MERCI ça ma bien aidez .
Thanks.
I hope mines together! Your video was easy to follow! Thank you! My Honda is a HRR216VKA. It’s almost the same! My biggest question is how did you keep the bolts in place? I used this time some electrical tape. Those bolts are a real pain! Guess they want people to take it in the shop which most either don’t have a truck or who has that kind of money! I’m a senior citizen in my mid 60s and a mom of 2 adult children, I’m a female who doesn’t mind getting her hands dirty! Now to change the oil and clean the spark plug which was new before I tried to start it and covered in black! Thanks again!
As in the video, I guess one can not see everything but I am holding those two long bolts in place with my fingers, maybe three hands would be easier!!
Thank you
You are a prince!
Thanks
look it sme agian 5 months later this video helped me but these mowers can be so dumb or i can i elarned much but the new one i have i just bought for 60 bucks and im turning it and flipping it since theyre expensive to soem peopel only gonna make 40 bucks maybe 30 since i re-tuned what teh pother guy i bought it form said he tuned... but the auto choke doesnt seem to work..ive had mowers like this before and the choike lever gradually move up and opens the choke wheel inside the carb this one does not..i mean it still runs constantly but usuallly the choke lever or the last mower i remember specifically the choke lever would gradually move into the open position this one does not for soem reason...but hey it still works but i dont want to sell soemone a pos....when i adjust teh choke myself it works but idk maybe it isnt an auto choke maybe its manual...its much like this probably exact setup but with a husqvarna deck
One often needs to assist the choke to fully off position. There is a hump in the lever that makes it stay open sometimes. Cheers!
Very helpful. In this video is your fuel valve in the off position?
Need to slow down so it's very clear.
Ok next time!
Great video, but there should be a gasket in between carburetor and heat sheild / air dampener ( right at 2:00 minutes) you have metal to metal, but hey if no leak your good !!??!! Thanks again ( yes I have same set up & mine takes a gasket in that area )
Yes in my case that gasket was stuck to the engine block. Tks!
Got a five piece gasket set from eBay for $3!
Cheers bruv 👍
Excellent video! Thanks so much for helping me figure out the correct order and orientation of all the gasket. I noticed a little green cylinder sitting on top of the housing (near the carburetor) - is this gasket sealer? Do I need to apply gasket sealer at all? Ages ago, I always did so when working on my car engine. Thanks again!
Hi John, glad to help. No gasket sealer required. That green cylinder is a quick release garden hose attachment. Looks kind of outta place.
I have an older Craftsman mower with the Honda 160cc engine. the set up on this model has no where close to to room you showed in this video to maneuver around. Putting back the breather tube is also a nightmare if you do not put it on first before you try to put it all back to the engine block. all in all Honda did a really lousy job in the design of the carb set up., I put a new carb in 5 years ago, and have to replace again now..No more Honda engines for me..Jim
I used a hemostat.
While you post a good instructional video, your carburetor layout is different than mine. Why am I not surprised?
A+
This is one of the better videos I've found to show re-assembly of the carb and it's gaskets, but I wish I could see where that choke lever goes in relation to the black plastic choke piece
on the carb.! Left or right side of that little black plastic post ?
It goes on the right side.
@@RidgePowerEquipment Thanks very much. That's a great help.
I’m years late, but my engine is missing the air intake metal gasket, this mower was given to me from a friend. Where can I find this part? I’ve been searching online everywhere
GCV160LAO , According to online sources 16100-ZOL-853 carb with plastic upright off choke assembly on carb that engages metal tab of timed, not temp wax type auto choke assembly is correct part #.
Problem being listings show carb minus the "Plastic Upright" that enrages Auto-Choke (timed Auto Choke) mechanism.
Q1: Is it possible to add the upright ? Looks like it would be a simple matter to do so. (Smooth shank bolt, double nutted, .)
Q2: Possible to convert the timed auto-choke to manual version ?
Q3: Possible to Swap linkage of old carb that has the "upright" and swap into new carb?
(Yes I know in a perfect world using a Honda branded version is the official route but want the ability to adjust mixture.. which means I can also clean passages more so, and ability to drain fuel via dedicated drain Honda carb does not have.)
Im having problems reassembling the choke i feel like the L shaped metal piece does not fit anywhere. Help a clueless girl mow the lawn! Lol
Send me a pic and I will try and help!! jglennmiller65@gmail.com
Great video , I have changed the carb , but my choke is not working, how do I adjust the cable s
Make sure the choke arm is moving the choke plate. If not, remove the carb slightly and move the arm behind the choke plate tab. Good luck
NO WAY IN HELL DOES IT GO ON THAT EASY !!!!!
Ok
Hardest part is remembering the gasket order. Thanks
Very important movie 2:11!!! Thanks-
isnt there a metal plate then the gasket that goes between the engine and carb?
Yes on a similar model than this one.
In my findings , there was a metal gasket that you installed after a gasket on the first assembly of the filter housing . Some of them don't have that , I've worked on three of these 160 cc model and one of them had the metal gasket and two of them didn't . But all three are running fine after I cleaned them and put them back together . I've worked on small engines for thirty years , but the metal on some is confusing to me . Some have and some don't 😵🤔
So many different models of this motor!!!
I thought the same thing, but instead of being a separate gasket you slide on, mine has a metal piece on a stationary frame. It functions the same way though. And the order is still gasket first, then metal (either a gasket or frame piece) gasket, carb, and so on
Trying to find the square gasket that attaches to engine. The one I have on it is torn
That link is cdn amzn
Have just a couple questions. So at :54 you are using a total of 3 gaskets for the front? When I removed mine I simply had the gray gasket and then a yellowish gasket. But you have like a sandwhich of gaskets...
Next is at : 1:45 My bigger plate is metal, so there is no gasket in between the plate and the back of the carb? IE: From the mower engine it goes: gray gasket/plastic piece that is shaped like a square/big metal plate(heatshield looking thing)/CARB/gray gasket/Yellow gasket/gray gasket/air filter housing?
Sorry if I sound like an idiot.... I'm just not sure why mine had some gaskets while yours you are adding more. My mower is the same with the auto return lever choke that gets released as you depress the handlebars up top to start it.
So many different models, they all seem to use a number of different amount of gaskets
My carburetor looks exactly like the one you have on this mower. Do you know the carb number so that I can order a new carburetor or at least a kit >
This is a Cdn Link. You get the idea. The choke on this one has a spring return. www.amazon.ca/dp/B07R5WDFNJ/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_ADGCFbWJ3C6BZ
@@RidgePowerEquipment So I would have to add s spring to the choke lever ? Or could I just put a small screw in the top of the plastic choke part on the carb to engage with the "shim" looking thing ?
@@richg0404 no. If your old carb has the spring you have the correct carb to purchase online. If no spring and manual choke, it would be a different online carb to purchase.
Tha......................nk! You
