and he always saying that the same enemy take sometimes longer to kill, its like he don't have a concept of missing, or its just a console thing. Miss all the shots and wander why enemy is not dead
I'm glad he has been avoiding a lot of comments, I've read at least one that has spoilers for HL2 and Portal in them. Honestly don't blame him for avoiding these. Sure some of the comments would be helpful, but all it takes is one to ruin everything.
Barney is the definition of an officer going above and beyond the call of duty. "Oh, you ran into a burning building to save a puppy? I ran into THE BORDER WORLD XEN"
53:03 fun fact: if you swim to the side near the bottom of this pit, you can find a crack in the rocks, hit a side of that crack a few times with your crowbar and the entrance will open up to a secret room containing an unused enemy from the original Half-life. You can look it up after the let's play if you want.
You can customize the hotkeys to be whatever you are more comfortable with through the options. With the tanks, you need to aim for the turret to destroy it.
Anti-tank warfare 101 "Aim for the gun turret" still applies, even for today's main battle tanks. I always considered it a neat game design detail to make the tank hull much more sturdy than the turret.
Many tanks have significantly stronger turrets than hulls, actually. The ideal fighting position for pretty much any tank is with the hull mostly in cover and only the small and heavily armored turret exposed, and a lot of designers specifically built for that.
I think HL series are perfect for introducing new players to the FPS genere, it's really friendly at first, but challenging as you move forward. That's just great.
2:45 There is a fun bit in one of the Left 4 Dead campaigns where Francis says he hate steam pipes when they are blocked by one, the guy famously hates *everything*. Then he corrects himself to say he loves steam, but the pipe itself can fuck off.
Fun fact: 47:58 the health/charging stations you're talking about are from earlier in HL1 development. They're from a beta the press saw. So it's a meta joke that they're in an older part of Black Mesa.
I find it so amusing how often he defaults to using the glock. I mean, sure, it's the first gun you get in HL, and it's okay, but... kinda on the weaker end of things.
27:04 OMG this made me laugh really hard. The scientists really give the Half-Life series some heart and soul, eh? Despite the dated graphics and limited interactions, I genuinely can't get enough of these guys. Wouldn't be nearly as good a game without them!
46:20 That's because blue shift was originally meant for playing with the HD models It was released along with the HD pack for all the Half-Life games, if i'm not mistaken So you can still choose to play it with the original classic style models, but some of them look a bit weird, like the new scientists, as if they have low definition body with high definition heads lol As of today, every Half-Life comes with the hd models by default You should pick the one that you actually like the most, people tend to hate on hd models but all of them have ups and downs
2:56 Funny you should mention that, there's a certain part in Opposing Force that literally requires you to activate "Valve" and "Gearbox" (Gearbox worked on these expansions)
In Half-life 1 the tanks are also only killable if shot at the tower, but somehow you destroyed multiple without noticing that. The lower part isn't even an NPC, it's map geometry you were shooting.
Mapo: hitting the scientist in the face with the crowbar because he isn't tthe person he's looking for Meanwhile me: reloading my game several times to save that one random scientist that has absolutely no significance whatsoever in the story. I have done this several times.
Mapocolops, try to disable vertical sync in the video options. It addes input lag. Try it and see if your mouse and keyboard don't feel 3x more responsive
@@spudd86 Never experienced that. I mean, if you removed/changed the game framerate cap that can probably happen. If that is the case, don't do it. Just leave it at 100 fps
If you ever played around with the Half-Life mapper worldcraft back in the day you would see how enemies like the tank are constructed. The base and tread part of the tank are functionally no different than a wall or a shipping container, they are just a solid piece of the environment that the turret is placed on. The actual entity, the enemy that can take damage, is the rotating turret on top of the box shaped like a tank. So attacking the base of the tank (or the base of a jeep with a turret in the original game) will do nothing unless the splash damage from the blast touches the actual turret, it's no different than attacking a wall. It's just like if a sentry gun was sitting on top of a steel crate.
this surely is a very late information but I'm telling u about it anyway, the machines that serves drinks (Idk their names cuz I'm not an English native) like in the scene 41:56 are useful to get HP from by clicking on their buttons and wait the drink then get it :'D
You had to shoot the TOP HEAD of the Tank not the body of the tank. At the point I've kill any tank with just the gun of course it took lot of my clips but still works.
Steam didn't exist yet when HL1 and it's expansions were made. Also Valve didn't make the expansions, GearBox did. That's why Opposing Force is of dubious canonicity. None of the things that only happen in OpFor are mentioned in HL2 or it's episodes. Blue Shift is *more* canon because of Barney in HL2 and some other little mentions, but who knows if Valve will decide Barney never went to Xen.
iIf we want to go this way, there's no more reason to consider _Blue Shift_ canon than _Opposing Force_ Most people assume that Barney and B. Calhoun are the same person, and that makes the most sense, but it's never actually confirmed, since we don't know Calhoun's first name or Barney's last.
16:32 Yeah, I don't think the Opposing Force soundtrack works for Blue Shift that well. After all, it was originally designed to use the original Half-life soundtrack back on the Dreamcast, I'm pretty sure.
Of course you can blow the tank up but you have to actually hit it! Come on, you played the first game. Did the whole body explode? No, only the turret.
You can kill that tank, you just have to shoot the turret. Yes, you missed every single rocket that one time.
Seems like he didn't just play Half-Life and read lots of same comments on tanks there=)
@@rohitchaoji Ok, I guess no point in comments then

To be fair, the weakness of a real life tank is on the exhaust on top of the chasis lol

Just as a slight reminder Blue Shit and Opposing Force were not made by Valve they were actually made by Gearbox
