      Hes not good though i can tell you that, he knows no actual real soldiering skills whatsoever or how to apply them playing the game. The creators of Marine Doom would even tell you this to, John Carmack and Adrian Carmack even supported and handed the Marine Doom creators all the game physics, dev, and engineering information on how Doom is a real life soldiering simulator to create Marine Doom for the Doom internet community, they never told very much of the employees that are the tiny quacks and lambly eggheads these confidental events like Romero. John Carmack was also formal seminar class G security personell for the U.S. Army and Aerospace and he did aquire confidental information on field combat skills, how soldiers think, and the techinality of soldiering on a combat field to create Doom.

My and my room mate at the time spent months (probably a year) playing this game and I have played every one since. This one game probably changed my life more than most anything else in my life because after I got addicted to this, I still play almost every FPS to this day. One of the best things about it is the aged technology; there's this amazing atmosphere here that could only be captured with tech from that era. The nostalgia, the sound, the liminal spaces, the 90s! There's something about certain media from the 90s that's inherently creepy, more so than any other era for me. The VHS vibes, this; and there's a certain quality to some of the film from the early 90s that gives me a sickening, anxious familiarity that I can't quite put my finger on. And thanks to the internet, I know I'm not the only one.

      What I find interesting about this is that people play it so many different ways. I have seen people very familiar with Doom also find all the stuff. But there mainly the types that makes maps. And so they get a tingling little feeling about what to explore. Like they know the limitation and such but will go exploring those limitations just for that. But many of the more experience regular players tend just to play it in a way in how they expect doom to work. In it quite interesting.

    • @lukkkasz323
      @lukkkasz323 Год назад +62

      It's a very interesting thing really, it goes deeper than that.
      For example I've created a few non-linear Half-Life 2 levels and linear Doom 2 levels.
      Half-Life 2 players didn't like the non-linearity, while Doom players didn't like the linearity.
      It shows exactly why it's so hard to create something unique. The response is often negative, even if the ideas are about normal in isolation. There is just an incompatibility.
      But it's also impossible to fix it the other way around, because Doom 2 players rarely will just play a Half-Life 2 level, and vice versa.

      @@Dorumin Funny you say that because my Uncle set up our PC for us and installed DOOM with the OS. My dad did something to fuck up Windows and we had to call some PC repair guy because none of us were any sort of tech savvy and he basically had to just do a fresh install of windows 95. Because I loved doom so much my dad asked the guy if he could install DOOM to which he replied "no, but I have something better" and installed Duke 3D, hence where the sprite tiddies comment came from. (There was also Daggerfall.) 'Course, what with the wonderfully perverted world we live in today, there's always H-Doom if you want both Doom and 2d sprite tiddies. lol

      @@Dorumin After a visit to the repair shop, I had an install of "MAME 10000 GAMES" appear on my desktop, it opened to an endless list of games and I had a blast through classics like 1942, Street Fighter and Dig Dug. A lot of them had "bootleg" in the titles meaning some weird changes. Sadly, the PC broke again and we took it to another repair man and the 10000 games didn't survive the format.

    I hope someone in chat pointed out to him that the next map that queues up is Underhalls because it has a house in it. If not, then John, if you're reading this: the level doesn't end when you exit the level. You go to another house level. And then if you finish Underhalls and keep going, you go BACK INTO MYHOUSE.WAD. The ride never ends! The level is heavily inspired by the novel called The House of Leaves; if you're interested in some unique horror I hear it's a good book

      @@AVAtistar Yeah you're supposed to go through Underhalls to get the super shotgun. One of the things I love about My House is how you build up your arsenal. Shotgun from first house. Chaingun from second. Super shotgun from Underhalls. Plasma from Brutalist, but only if you collected the otherwise unnecessary blue card. BFG from the horror bathroom, but only if you paid attention to the screenshot on the Google drive. Rocket launcher only near the end - for the slaughter. The fact that the super shotgun is not in the map itself, but only Underhalls, I think suggests that you are supposed to go through Underhalls at least once.

    this was amazing.
    sometimes is kinda dissapointing when a developer plays their own game and they kinda suck, I mean, is understandable, developing and playing are completly different skills so makes sense, but was really cool to see how good is Romero at Doom and also how quickly he analyzed and percived things, like he immediatly realized that the changes in the house showed passage of time, the changes in music, animation, etc, also he noticed that there was some strange thing happening with the water, reflection, the items ("gotta get the teddy bear") , also he found out a lot of the secrets in the game (like the secret door in the big dog room that you access by walking over the wall), I have watched a lot of livestreams playing MYHOUSE and generally they aren't even close to being so good at it or getting it so quickly.
    it was really cool to watch him play the game.
