I'm amazed at how random and messy you did your blond pieces and how beautifully it turned out 😍 I've been watching you for years now (back in your old apartment where you had your hair things in boxes in a shelf 😅) and your videos always inspired me to do more research on hair and hair colors and used your haircut tutorials as well as your coloring tutorials multiole times over the years! Yes I offer virtual consultations for this reason. It's also pretty impossible l to advise someone based on just a comment question. I like to see the hair and ask questions to get a good understanding of the hair before helping with any formulations.
I went dark almost three months ago. and as I mentioned my hair would fade. It is inevitable when you go from blonde to brunette. I said I would embrace fading, which I did over our long move. Now I was ready to add some more light accents to refresh my color.
@@Ellebangs ah ok got ya, yeah I forgot you used semi permanent last time. Well I love both of them! Every thing you do to your hair looks great! I'm using your hair as inspo for my next colour 😊
Hello @ellebangs. In your video you said you would be using 6NN, but in your products list you have 6N listed. Does it matter which you use? Thank you.
love your channel and have been watching since COVID started. Super helpful and short to the point whether color or hair cut (about to cut my curtain bang with after your bang video). Question: My natural hair color is level 5-6 and very fine and thin. I highlight it. I have about 2% gray in my roots. If I use root tap formula with 20 developer, what happens later when the hair grows and I need to highlight it? Or should I use 10 developer since my gray amount is not very noticable/a lot. Basically, I'd love to see a video on how to handle grey roots while still highlighting the rest of the hair without damaging with multiple processing.
You are amazing! I’ve learned so much from you over the years. Could you do another video on playing around with different shades; as in using Sally’s products to create depth at the roots? Or explaining more in-depth about the color wheel to create formulas? 🌸
I went To Sally’s this am. I got the 6nn in Ion. It’s perfect for my roots. Used the lightener. I honestly was afraid but it came out amazing! Thank you for sharing your tips!
Hi Sylvia!! I love your videos, and I have learned quite a lot from you. I do have a couple of questions, however, if you don’t mind, and if you have the time. How do you keep the root color from coloring the rest of your hair, somewhat, when you rinse out both the root color and the bleach? Secondly, can you do a small amount of low lights at the same time that you are doing your highlights? Thanks for any possible reply! Again, I look forward to watching your videos! 😘
Omg, how do the wet pieces that touch the other dry hair not make spots or accidentally dye then and cause Cheetah spots or blotches? Beautiful hair, wonderful job!
Hi! Love this video! Just found out I’m preggo, can’t wait to go in to get my hair touched up after the 1st trimester. Do you have any videos about pregnancy safe hair products or things that have helped you throughout even if it’s not hair related? I did a full on Olaplex session 0 - 8 last night and made sure nothing touched my roots lol it took forever to finish hahaha
Hi Silvia. You look beautiful!!! So I bought the good dye young kit. Amazing!!!! Worked sooooooo great I did root touch up and lightened my blonde 👱🏻♀️. It turned out so great. ThNks for your info. Can’t wait to do again. Xoxo 😘👩🏼👩🏼👩🏼👩🏼👩🏼👩🏼👩🏼
You can tell that you were meant to do hair. You make it look so effortless 😯 like I’m just blown away Everytime I watch your videos lol. When I do my hair it’s always a mess 😅 thanks for sharing your tips 💗
I have a question which I could not find an answer yet:( if you do only roots, how can you protects your ends to get the colour? I am trying to protect my light ends from the dark root clour but every time my ends are getting darker:( thanks in advance!
Hmm I’m surprised the color is taking to ends that fast! I’d maybe try to put your ends in a low pony tail and lean your head forward(you facing the sink/tub) and rinse those roots with water as best as you can! Then wash the rest of your hair with shampoo!
I would maybe coat your ends in conditioner-that way they’re protected and also being treated at the same time -sort of like wetting your hair before going swimming -so it does not absorb chlorine and turn green ♥️
@@AmberLovesMystery indeed, great idea! I have started wetting the ends and putting silicone base mask while dying the roots. Seems like it’s working and as you mentioned also conditioning the ends.
Wonderful video! Question: if you had more growth (my natural growth is a dark brown level) would you do the lightener first before doing the roots? Thank you! I really enjoy your videos!
I know this is an old video, but aim hoping you're still managing your comments. My question is, if I'm trying to grow out my hair while maintaining a balayage/babylights/heavy root look similar to your in this video, should I use the permanent color on my roots as suggested here? Or should I use a more semi-permanent dye, or just a gloss? I'm mostly worried about major brass when cutting through the dyed growth with a lightener.
It’d be so awesome IF you would have a virtual consultation with her… I had my virtual consultation and LOVED how she answered ALL my questions..specifically for what she saw ..for my hair …🙃
Hi. Why did you only use 1 oz of developer for your root color? The package says to use 2 oz color with 2 oz developer so I'm looking for the 'why' if you would explain that for new viewers, please.
Do you have a toner you recommend from Sally’s? I have naturally dark hair that tends to get brassy and would need one to finish off the bleached areas
You use permanent root color. I thought this was a no no bc when it grows out and eventually gets highlighted won't it turn brassy? Please explain. Thanks!
Not when you use a the right level. The brassiness occurs when you try to over lighten your base with a base color. Meaning using a base color that is 2 or more shades lighter than your hair. I have some grays at my part and for that reason I need a permanent color for my base.
I am not sure what the difference is - this looks so easy, but I was confused with regard to just painting on the lightning, could I not just do that with the bleach mixture instead of using foils?? leave it on just like this and get the same results???? or is it that the bleach would dry out - and why a perm root color instead of demi???
You are amazing teaching how to do it! How I can wash the roots without putting the dark color on the rest of my hair? I am frustrated I went to the hair dresser and she made the roots very dark and now my light lights are dark!!!
Never give ANY pregnant woman advice. You might be held liable. You are NOT A DOCTOR. You color hair and I was a fan. Misinformation is a reason to unsubscribe.
Would love to see you repeat this video with redken shakes eq demi. Still doing a root tap, but also adding a base color (toning brass/obtaining mushroom bronde. This is a highly sought after formula and my stylist is just $400-500 in the south I can’t do it. I’m a barber with 9 years experience I feel like I can achieve it with maybe a 6n, 7nn. Root tap 5n/6n). I googled it and chatgt recommends 7nw + 7v 9v for mushroom bronde, in redken shades eq.
My skin tone is cool and I have a level 8 or 9 blonde. Brassy issue, yikes! I want to go with a darker root/balayage with browns and blondes throughout. Byw, I'll be doing dyi at home with Sally's products! 2 Questions: 1. What ion color should I go with for the roots? 6NN or 7NN or an AG?? 2. Saving this to test out next time. Currently stuck with bleached hair that I didnt lift fully. Trying to figure out my next step and either take the plunge on toning it or coloring lol.
Thanks for this video. I’ve been purchasing from Sally’s for about the last 5 years. The girls that work there are always so helpful and informative but it’s nice to actually see some demonstration. Especially as I am trying to transition into more blond. Love your videos! 💗
I realized why I get so confused… her advice changes with her sponsors.. :( Using the lift on the roots can turn orange if you pick a shade to light for your root
If you were doing this on darker hair (brunette) you said you would follow up with a toner .. what shade toner to achieve the blonde that you currently have?
I don't think this will ever get an answer to this video there's so many that still no answer so anyone could please do Tell me why she's using a permanent on her roots what if it's something you feel is too dark or otherwise would it be okay to use demi first to make sure? I touch up my roots and brush on my hights at home! Ive always done each separately. I didn't know i could do both at the same time! Duh! This is a tutorial!! Thank you!! 😊
Hi! So excited to try this at home. Hair apts are hard to get right now. Question what toner would you recommend as well my hair is brassy towards ends. Ty!
I love love love this video, thank you! I have fine dry hair. I use Living Proof volumizing shampoo & Olaplex 3 conditioner which I leave on for 20 minutes. Any other products you can recommend for fine dry hair that don't weigh it down?
I’m wondering if I pull red when I add the lightener, will I have to tone and if so will T14 work and do I avoid getting toner on the roots after doing the 6NN? Thank you so much for all your help! XOXO
@@Glesga_lassie I have a 6N already in my roots I did with a 20 developer and they show a hint of brass & orange. I want to paint on some highlights but I’m terrified. I even bought all the stuff! I was thinking of doing a cap highlight but I’m not sure ty SO much for your help! XO!
So long as the toner is a higher level than that of your roots, it shouldn't affect them. Ex: If you roots are a level 5 and the toner is meant for a level 10 (platinum blonde), the toner won't lift or change your roots. It is meant to cancel the tone of the colour you are applying it to. Like on the colour wheel; purple cancels yellow, which is why purple shampoo often works to tone blonde. But purple shampoo won't have much effect on red hair because they are not opposites (green would be needed to cancel the red). Something to remember is that toner (proper toner) is not permanent colour and, therefore, will not lift or change a colour darker than its own level. 😊
I would only need one If I was going from dark brown to blonde. My hair was already essentially blonde underneath. So with a 20 vol I was just re'exposing what was underneath. (which was bright blonde) no need for toner here.
This video is amazing, thank you! Been wanting to start doing my grey root coverage myself. I totally feel the comment about being overwhelmed walking into Sally’s. Went in, purchased everything I need (the associate at my local location was super helpful).
Gm, I love this video so so so much. Just a question when you do the highlights. Do you need to buy the highlight kit or can you mix powder with developed if you have it home?
@@Ellebangs That would be great! I know Brad Mondo has done that! Please know I’m a big fan and have been bleaching and toning per your recommendation with Color Charm Demi Permanent. I’ve even been using it to lowlight. I’d pay for a subscription for content like this!💕
You are sooo awesome!!!!! Thanks for this video and congratulations on your pregnancy. You have never look as healthy as now and it shows you are more relaxed and happier than ever. Sorry but I am so happy for you!
I tried your 7n+7g+7m formula from your last video but using the ion colors, it turned out super brassy though. not sure what went wrong with 10 vol ;( not enough of the 7m I think?
I think M (stands for Machagony) might be the reason. But it all depends on your starting colour (before aplication) as well as of your natural hair colour. Next time avoid M, or C (copper).
What would you recommend if you're a level 4 or 5 brunette trying to attiain your beautiful highlights? I asked for beige highlites which i had previously but they needed a touch up. I ended up with zebra stripes along with various colour dark lowlights. Which toner would you use - my hair always turns orange ugh!!! Just had a really bad hairdresser experience :(
They just don’t have a clue what they’re talking about that’s problem! missing my stylist! Although the grays come quickly! Ugg & covid does not help one bit! Grr not to mention the cost it’s nice not having $300 a month for something I could do myself in fact I don’t really enjoy going to the hair salon I prefer having it at my house!
Hi Silvia I wanted to know why you used a permanent versus a demi, we’re you going for lift? Do you have grays? I am wanting to attend this to essentially do a shadow route as my level four roots are too much of a contrast with my level nine highlighted hair and it’s looking a bit stripy however I’m trying to decide if I should use Demi or permanent as my base looks similar to yours
If haircolor hurt 👶 babies, all 6 of mine would be messed up, lol. Seriously though, I was a maternity nurse for 15 years. Your doctors advice was correct.
Hi! thank you for this video!! quick question on your video you mention 6nn for the roots, however the description reads 6n .... the correct one is 6nn?
Hi, my entire head up to the root is currently about level 9 right now (shoulder length w/ an undercut) my natural color is 6n. I’m wanting to do a shadow root in a few weeks & was wondering what color you would suggest I use? I’m going for more of an ash brown into more of a deeper ash toner on my mid and ends but I don’t want my hair to turn green, so I’m not sure if I should go warm or not to avoid green from the bleach? But I’m still wanting to keep an ash look so needing tips! Lol thanks in advance ❤
Is it safe to bleach over hair that was already bleached ? How do you prevent from blowing the cuticle ? Do you use lower volume bleach on ends than root ?
Do you have any recommendations for a lightening product to use for hair that is dirty blonde naturally. (Level 7) I like a subtle lightening effect and am afraid that the one you use would make me level 10 or 11.
💥💥💥💥💥 I do really like the way you are explaining everything and your hair color with root top color and balayage looks AMAIZNG AMAZING AMAZING .... 💞💞💞💞💕💞💕💕 Usually I'm going to salon, but nobody is able to get into this amazing shades, not even salons who works with Redken Pro. We in Germany -Berlin don't have Sally's Shop for hair products. Is there any chance that you could do an video with in-box products ready to use from drugstore with brands like: Garnier, L'Oreal or Syoss ...... Just to start back home for 2 -3 centimeter roots ... ... for all those lady's who has similar natural root color like you : drak brown. I've got almost the same natural root color like you. Have highlights and babylights but they are going more into warm golden/ honey, and they getting more dryer and dryer even I'm using Olaplex no.3, Olaplex Shampoo +Conditioner +Oil, + in salon Olaplex in Bleach for my highlights, + Redken Bond, Oribe Shampoo + Conditioner , ... Kerastase Hair Oil, Redken Extream Shampoo + Conditioner+ Cat + Hair Mask + leave in Conditioner .... And for grey hair -about 30% natural grey is on my hair. So whatever you suggest , it will be great - only products who are not extreamely drying out hair Thank you 🥰🥰🥰
I’m sure you’ve answered this somewhere already but is the reason you always do a root touch up because you want to defuse the harsh line from grow out?Cause the colors you use for it is usually to match your natural hair color.
I have been doing my roots and highlights myself for 16 years and all my products I purchase from Sallys. I never tone my highlights, I just keep an eye on them until it is the color I like.

I never knew I could do it either! Time saver!
Hi! So excited to try this at home. Hair apts are hard to get right now. Question what toner would you recommend as well my hair is brassy towards ends. Ty!
Can you do a video on Sally 's. Beauty supply ion cream bleach lightener
What color would you recommend from Sally's to achieve the brown color you went darker with a few months back?
I love love love this video, thank you! I have fine dry hair. I use Living Proof volumizing shampoo & Olaplex 3 conditioner which I leave on for 20 minutes. Any other products you can recommend for fine dry hair that don't weigh it down?
I’m wondering if I pull red when I add the lightener, will I have to tone and if so will T14 work and do I avoid getting toner on the roots after doing the 6NN? Thank you so much for all your help! XOXO
Good question I am thinking same thing.
Depends on your natural colour and any colour already on your hair. I can give you advice but would need more info on you hair currently :)
@@madyem4672 You are so awesome for replying to me🥰 This is so helpful thank you!! 😘
Great video!! Can you explain more why you did not use a toner? Why does it make your hair "not as bright?". Thanks!!
Do you put olaplex in any of your base root color, lightener, or toners?
Hello help my hair is blond highlights bottom buy roots gray and dark brown hoe
W to light it
Gm, I love this video so so so much. Just a question when you do the highlights. Do you need to buy the highlight kit or can you mix powder with developed if you have it home?
But her hair is already balayage
What shampoos/conditioners do you recommend from Sally’s?
What’s the root color? I can’t read the BOX!!!! In a bind!!
Can we do a root tap after already doing highlights? Can you do a video showing that?
So glad you are actually showing how to use the Sally products rather than just telling us. Your channel needs more demos.
Thank you! I agree but its impossible to show various color/ brands all on my own hair. How do we feel about demos on a doll head??
@@Ellebangs That would be great! I know Brad Mondo has done that! Please know I’m a big fan and have been bleaching and toning per your recommendation with Color Charm Demi Permanent. I’ve even been using it to lowlight. I’d pay for a subscription for content like this!💕
You are sooo awesome!!!!! Thanks for this video and congratulations on your pregnancy. You have never look as healthy as now and it shows you are more relaxed and happier than ever. Sorry but I am so happy for you!
Thank you !! Been watching your videos for awhiles and you make everything super simple Thank you!!!❤❤
Could you show the same type of Sally product video using toner for the root and for the length of the hair? Thanks :)
Yes, great question. I would also appreciate.
Thanks so much! I’ve been watching you for years. You are so helpful!!!
Just had a really bad hairdresser experience :(
I felt the same way. Empowered walking into Sally’s in fact I felt like I was more knowledgeable from watching your channel.
Omg thank you for this video!!! In love with your channel 💕
Thank you, Silvia. How did you avoid hot roots using permanent color at your base that has lift?
Wow I’m gonna hav to try this at home looks so easy , I screenshot the items you used thank you ❤️❤️
Man e-salon could not help me at all since I have highlights.
I am doing this ASAP
Hi Silvia
I wanted to know why you used a permanent versus a demi, we’re you going for lift? Do you have grays?
I am wanting to attend this to essentially do a shadow route as my level four roots are too much of a contrast with my level nine highlighted hair and it’s looking a bit stripy however I’m trying to decide if I should use Demi or permanent as my base looks similar to yours
If haircolor hurt 👶 babies, all 6 of mine would be messed up, lol. Seriously though, I was a maternity nurse for 15 years. Your doctors advice was correct.
If we are being picky, wearing gloves might help though.
Thank you for confirming!
Same, I have 6 kids, I’ve dyed my hair while pregnant with each. All is well 🥰
Ahh I love your videos and I wanted to get the same products you used and the links aren't working, I could cry 😢
Hi! thank you for this video!! quick question on your video you mention 6nn for the roots, however the description reads 6n .... the correct one is 6nn?
I have a Sally’s on auto order and I really love it. In the app, I can see my orders that are coming, and past orders really easily.
So I currently use a Ion 5N from Sally’s on my roots for touch up. What’s the difference between using a 5N or a NN ?
Do you have any recommendations for a lightening product to use for hair that is dirty blonde naturally. (Level 7) I like a subtle lightening effect and am afraid that the one you use would make me level 10 or 11.
Would love help with balayage on gray. I highlighted mine but turned yellow😂
💥💥💥💥💥
I do really like the way you are explaining everything and your hair color with root top color and balayage looks AMAIZNG AMAZING AMAZING ....
💞💞💞💞💕💞💕💕
Usually I'm going to salon, but nobody is able to get into this amazing shades, not even salons who works with Redken Pro.
So whatever you suggest , it will be great - only products who are not extreamely drying out hair
Thank you 🥰🥰🥰
I’m sure you’ve answered this somewhere already but is the reason you always do a root touch up because you want to defuse the harsh line from grow out?Cause the colors you use for it is usually to match your natural hair color.
Does the hair color at the roots also dye gray/ white hairs?
Yes this is why I used a permanent color at the roots. I have a few grays at part.
What would be the wash process before?
I didn’t see the toner you used on your highlights
I wish we had Sally’s in Australia 🇦🇺
I have been doing my roots and highlights myself for 16 years and all my products I purchase from Sallys. I never tone my highlights, I just keep an eye on them until it is the color I like.
