I'm a professional stylist for almost 30 yrs... watched all the way through, rooting for you the whole way. I gotta say, you did awesome! Good job, girl! You might have "a calling"!
You are just a normal stylist in a little country and have your own stylist for a long time… most of your clients are 40+ woman without “today color” at all
Been doing hair for 15+ years. I do this to myself often. Easiest way to get it done on a budget! Looks really nice! I would suggest using a 10 volume developer on the first half of what you do. Front or back, the first foil is on your hair longer than the last foil. So that last foil is on 45 minutes but that first one is on hour and a half? It's a long time, and over time will cause the hairs to become like a brittle rubberband. Hope that makes sense!
laura trask Hi, I’ve been thinking about doing this but my hair lighten quickly and was afraid of the same thing (since the front half is in foils much longer than the back 1/2). I want the back half to be blonder than the front 1/2 though. Do you suggest doing the foils back to front instead?
@@debbievargas2920 yes, you should do the back first and work your way to front. Also, keep and eye on the back ones as you go. You can also rinse out back first and let front sit longer if needed. Also the 10 Developer is not for lifting so if your trying to lighten stick with the 20. The 10 Developer is not meant for any kind of bleaching, it's more for darker colored hair color.
I've watched a lot of balayage technique videos and yours was the most informational and honest. Good job! For anyone thinking of trying this - I will say that many many methods work. I use a toothbrush to paint small pieces and don't tease. But the last time I went to get my hair cut, the stylist said she thought my balayage was professional. I think having good products is key here and doing a strand test if you have time can really help!
This is by far the best diy color I’ve ever seen... this turned out better then the $200 salon one I got... this just gave me the courage to redo mine, and NOT go to the salon!! Thank you girl!
I went to a professional in my area and asked for a balayage and i paid 180$ and its not blended and you can see where the colour starts and yours didn't cost as much and it is so beautiful and well blended! Im impressed, you did a great job!!
Hi Jillian! This is my 5th time using your video to do highlights: third time on myself, once on my sister and once on a friend. I love this video! And the look I'm able to achieve with this. Thank you!
This made my day, Ivy! I just posted an updated video on fixing mistakes and an even more streamlined technique if you want it. Thank you for your kind words!! ruclips.net/video/Wf8GabVSf5g/видео.html
Love it. Can't wait to try it. People don't believe me that I cut my own hair and taught myself from RUclips. I do everything myself...and almost anyone can! Looks great girl, love your personality and I hope u post more vids
I did this because I was inspired by your video! I skipped the teasing part because I have really fine hair but I pulled random pieces to highlight instead to get the same natural effect. It turned out awesome! Thank you so much for this video!
I am doing some pre- hair dying research and this is honestly the best video and results I've seen. My hair is the same length as yours and the color looks AMAZING! So excited to try this. Thanks!
Nice results! I've been using this exact technique on my own hair for a while now. I've played around with the sectioning quite a lot and the results amaze me every time; I'm never spending big money at a salon again!
I've done this on myself and I LOVED THE RESULTS! I have really dark brown hair. I lightened to a brassy red/orange color because I didn't want to go too light. I wanted more accents than a blond-ish color. I used a darker toner hoping to get to a honey color but it ended up being more red than I thought. So what I would do differently, I would use a purple shampoo to tone it out instead!
THIS is the diy video I've been waiting for, thanks so much! Please do more of these as to show us more tricks as your techniques evolve. Really, thanks again!
I did this on myself a year and a half ago because of this video and how well yours turned out. I just used a box dye, though, and it turned out really well! You, and your hair, are gorg!
So I'm doing this on my hair tonight, will post the results later. But this video makes it look SO much easier than the sectioning and painting the "V" and "W" shapes. Loved the video 🙈 wish me luck
Omg! I tryed this technique and the result is amazing! Im a hairsdresser so i wasn't afraid if i will screw it up! In so happy! It looks so natural! Thanks for uploading this video! 👏🏻
Hi, I’ve been thinking about doing this but my hair lightens quickly and Im thinking the results wont be even since the front half is in foils much longer than the back 1/2. How can I get even results without ruining the strands that are in the foils longer? I also want the back half to be blonder than the front 1/2. Do you suggest doing the foils back to front instead?
“Pfff let’s be real I’ll never mess it up” my fav part of this video!!! 😂🙌 loving that self confidence girl!!! Keep it up!!! I’m obsessed with the beautiful results!!! 🙌🙌🙌
Hi Jillian! I did it tonight and was very happy with the results! I did add a toner because mine came out a little lighter than i wanted. Thanks so much for the video!
Hey! I’ve done your video technique and it really worked! My hair was so beautiful! Because of work i have been more than an year without dying it, but at the time i tried it was the best it ever looked with highlights! Thanks!
I'm doing my aunt's hair tomorrow and I'm going to try this you did it superrras close and I think after watching this video I'm going to do a great job it came out super good on you !!!
Love this!!! I wish I would've saw this before just bleaching my hair but I'm def trying this in a month or two (prevent damage) I added coconut oil before bleaching and no hair loss!!! Winning!!
Nice job! I'd just suggest next time start in the back, bc that hair takes longer to lift than the front. And get some clips to clip the hair/foils out of the way. But great result, especially the cut!
Divas&DollsBeauty I always start in the back the front will catch up to the back it takes less time to process the front since the front is naturally lighter the hairs are finer and more fragile in the front and if you start with those it leads to breakage
Hi, I’ve been thinking about doing this but my hair lightens quickly and Im thinking the results wont be even since the front half is in foils much longer than the back 1/2. You did an amazing job! I’m a natural redhead and have only had professional highlights done once and it ruined my hair so I’ve been terrified to even try anything lightening again until I saw this. I think I can definitely do this!
the only thing i would recomend for the next time is to start from the bottom to the top and some mirrors angled to where you can see the back cause it looks beautiful
Thank you for posting this! I hate my dark hair, but am on a journey to get out of debt so I couldn't justify spending $250 to color my hair at a salon. I followed this video with products I already had and my hair turned out great!
First off I just want to say thanks so much for making this video. I am going to use it as a guide for balayage in my hair soon. But let’s just talk about how cute your little personality is at the end with the “ let’s be real, I’ll never mess it up!“ 😂 love it!
This looks beautiful. What I often find annoying is I pay so much at a hair salon for baleyage but it looks horrible and once I actually made better highlights myself...
Excellent tutorial, your hair looks great i’m now gonna try this on myself. It looks so easy doing it your way i hate trying to weave highlights all over my own head and it takes me forever to get it done, i always always use the aphegee 2 step protein treatment after bleaching my hair and it never fails me. Thank you so much for your video
So helpful -thank you! You can fold up the foil in the front more so it's not in your eyes. I also went to a beauty supply store and they sold me that quick blue stuff. Never used it before. She said make sure you tease it in - ?! So glad I found your video as I had no idea. Thanks for posting - your hair looks great! I love the results. She also sold me the ion shampoo and conditioner for light colour. You got a new fan- Cheers!
I tried it after watching this and I got so many compliments. Then I made it pink supposed to be purple but I got another dye and it came out purple. Time to try again!
Dying my friends hair ombre pink tomorrow! This was the technique I was planning on but now I'm sure I'll do well now that I've seen someone else do it
I almost peed my pants at 6:25. Too Funny.... You are a pleasure to watch and so full of life. I watched the whole nine minutes. What a BEAUTIFUL job you did. Salon quality for sure .
It looks like a very expensive saloon work. I wish I could have seen the cut and curling phases too. Thank you - it was very instructive and encouraging to see, especially that you seemed uncertain in the beginning.😊
You are amazing ❤️ Loveyou loads 😍 thanks for this short easy and really quick tutorial for balayage ,i have tried this on my own at the very First time , and i am so satisfied with the results .. thank you so much ❤️
Wow you did an awesome job and the cut is great!!!!! I’ve been doing it at home myself for years and I’ll never go back to a salon- I my own hair also! I save tons of $$$$
Omg beautiful results!! I knew about the technique but I wasn’t sure how it would work on shorter hair but you gave me some confidence to try it out!! Thanks for making this video!
After coming out the salon and having beautiful ashy silver ombré it has now (1 month later) turned into an orange brassy mess! I'll be trying this thanks to you. You are absolutely stunning and your color came out gorgeous!!
Wow girl..! You’re a natural. I’m gonna try doing this and follow your instructions, then add some pink color... I’m pretty sure it’s gonna be a mess😂 I don’t have as much patience as you! (You’re an awesome teacher tho!) .. I usually do my hair when I’m a bit drunk. Halleluja..! ✌🏼 wish you the best!
fab video. First I thought what is she doing, but the endresult is fantastic. I'm gonna give it a shot tomorrow. Thanks for sharing. Btw it was also fun to watch (I skipped through some other vids on this subject, but you caught my attention). 👍
Thank-you for posting this tutorial. I’m going to try the teasing technique on unpigmented naturally white hair with a silver grey. A low-lite ombré effect, silver grey intensified on the bottom and lightening up to white on top.
So I ended up watching the video and doing it myself and honestly my hair is really dark so my hair went orangish as it would in a salon but I used wella toner and it was awesome I'm so glad you shared it it's nice to see a hair story on RUclips that didn't go drastically wrong thanks for sharing🖤
Girl you nailed it!! I’m retouching my roots this Friday and I was thinking of doing the cap method but this one seems easier and more free handed! I can’t wait 😛 wish me luck
Wow! Looks GREAT! I love the back combing method. I just saw another RUclips girl do this similar approach dividing her hair with ponytails all over her head. That turned out pretty good too, but I really like yours better! This looks fantastic! I have bangs - I don't know what I'd do about that, but this looks great for hair without bangs!
As soon as you said "Let's be real, I'll never mess it up" I pictured a jump cut to you, months later, after trying it again, saying "You guys, I really messed up" 😂 This looks awesome, I'll definitely try it myself!
Please please do not be offended just a little constructive criticism! I love how you are so confident to do the by yourself and it looks great just a pro tip, the foils are suppose to go long ways not landscape just because you want to apply the product straight down without the bend you were getting where your hair didn’t touch the foil. You do it that way just for the even distribution of lightener.
Wow, love it! soft and blended. Excellent. btw - I see many people mentioning the $60 cost. I have lived many places and no doubt, NYC is definitely most expensive city I have seen. Only parts of Cali came close. Expensive cities, for anything compared to....well, anywhere else, lol. So I do not doubt the 60. You did amazing. :)
I just finished doing this and I'm going to wash the bleach out in 30 minutes. I'm so scared lol! I hope mine looks at least HALF as good as yours! You are gorgeous and I'm glad I found this video because I really wanted my hair done like this. 🙂❤
I have super long hair and I did my balayage the other day... with redken flashlift, 30 volume, toned with 09Gi …. omg I'm in love. no salon for me ever again!
Thanks for taking your time to help others! I had mine already and I was like you I wanted more so I watched you and the results turned out good considering so thanks so much and I will be back.
You just gained a subscriber. I love this! This seemed like the most legitimate one rather than ones with others using their fingers. I can't wait until my hair grows out a little bit more so that I can do this!!
This method looks SO much better than any of the others I have seen! How did you wash your hair after with the teasing? Did you wash it and brush it out after or have to brush it before you washed? Thanks for the video!
Thank you so much! Good question - used the shampoo and deep conditioner listed above. When rinsing the conditioner out, I gently combed out the teased parts with a brush.
Soooooo pretty! You made it look so simple; I’m gonna try it and dye it purple afterwards! BTW, you look a lot like Laura Bailey, you both are gorgeous 😊👍🏼
Awesome video girl ❤️ I have the same haircut as you and I was looking for a balayage vid for short hair! I've done my own a couple times before but my hair was super long when I did it.Will try your technique and let you know how it went! Your amazing and keep doing what you doing sunshine 😊 ☀️
It looks absolutely gorgeous!!😍 Should I use the same technique and would it have the same result for longer hair? Like how it's in my profile pic. I want to diy it this week so please, I need an answer🙇

I love how you are so confident to do the by yourself and it looks great just a pro tip, the foils are suppose to go long ways not landscape just because you want to apply the product straight down without the bend you were getting where your hair didn’t touch the foil. You do it that way just for the even distribution of lightener.
Although I totally missed a chunk in the back this method worked really well! Thanks so much for the video!
Looks lovely, well done brave girl!
Your natural haircolor is gorgeous!!
I just finished doing this and I'm going to wash the bleach out in 30 minutes. I'm so scared lol! I hope mine looks at least HALF as good as yours! You are gorgeous and I'm glad I found this video because I really wanted my hair done like this. 🙂❤
Chelsea Best how did it turn out??
I so love how you did your hair more like a salon done the Ombre is Not too overpowering just the right blend... Great Job
Thank you so much!
I love it! I've been watching so many videos to do my own hair and finally yours is the one great results I'm doing it asap
Thanks for the tip and I tried this on my hair and it came out great! I did use a toner but I love it!
Looks wonderful! How do you do the root touch ups? Do you leave the bleach off the ends and do you get banding at all?
I did this method on my friend and i came out awesomee, by far the best tutorial I've watched
One of the best I've seen so far - you did a great job!
I have super long hair and I did my balayage the other day... with redken flashlift, 30 volume, toned with 09Gi …. omg I'm in love. no salon for me ever again!
how did you section your hair may I ask? :)
Omg I’ve watched a lot of these videos but yours came out sooooo good like I’m in love 😍😍😍😍
Looks beautiful, well done
This method looks SO much better than any of the others I have seen! How did you wash your hair after with the teasing? Did you wash it and brush it out after or have to brush it before you washed? Thanks for the video!
Thank you so much! Good question - used the shampoo and deep conditioner listed above. When rinsing the conditioner out, I gently combed out the teased parts with a brush.
Soooooo pretty! You made it look so simple; I’m gonna try it and dye it purple afterwards! BTW, you look a lot like Laura Bailey, you both are gorgeous 😊👍🏼
I followed this video and my hair turned out great ☺
I workout, so all I was staring at was those arms! #goals
YOU made me certain I wanted to do this! This method is almost fool proof!
I totally agree!
Omg! Good job girl! 👍
Beautiful!! Great job girl!!!🤩😍

Hiba Larabi yassssss
When she did the bit right on her forehead she couldve flipped it back towards her head! Great video through, thanks for helping out
Silly question, I'm a med brunette, how do I pick what color to use for this? I don't want anything too brassy. Your's turned out great!!
It looks absolutely gorgeous!!😍
Should I use the same technique and would it have the same result for longer hair? Like how it's in my profile pic.
I want to diy it this week so please, I need an answer🙇
