I have seen people going to salons to get a balayage and they failed miserably and we have a woman here doing this all by herself looking like she came out of Guy Tang's salon or something. She made balayage look so simple!

SO right! For years I had ombre'd my own hair with videos from youtube and information from the internet because ALL salons I went FAILED EVERY TIME and my hair when I did it myseld looked beautiful, healthy and like I've been to a salon! Then I decided to try once more to go to a salon and now my hair are not healthy and not like I wanted them! From now on I will do my hair again at home balayage-ombre with only 10-20 euros cost! You are sooooo right!!!!!
Super Wig Maker I came out of a salon today £74 worse off and I think a failed balyage. The root colour is auburn and the rest is blonde. I'm really sad😐 discussion first images shown colours chosen etc..
I'm a hairdresser and this is how I do my own hair. My clients are super impressed but it's not really that hard. You balyage perfectly. Love your style and presentation.👏❤
This is the best tutorial!! You went right into the process...so many youtubers talk for 10mins straight about random stuff unrelated to the subject. I literally stop the tutorial and look for another. You were descriptive and helpful and I love your accent!!! Subscribed!!!
You have a wonderfully calming tone to your voice, your directions are so precise and very well spoken. You're very knowledgeable. Keep doing what you're doing! Thanks so much and for showing us not to be afraid to do it ourselves! Very inspiring... well done.
Do you set the rules so you can judge about if a balayage is right or wrong? And who said that she wanted it to look natural? I've seen plenty of good hairdressers who did the balayage even higher. That's just a matter of taste and has nothing to do with right or wrong. Plus in my opinion it does look pretty natural.
It's funny because I am a hair dresser and balayage is my fave thing to do and she actually did a good job! I think it looks natural and blended haha I mean I've seen some truly horrendous at home hair colouring and had to fix it but I've also had to fix other stylists bad jobs to! Some people just have a knack for hair and it's never going to look perfect from a technical view when you do your own hair. Looks beautiful to me! :)
dom dom hair painting/lightening is art, art is someone else's interpretation of something else. There is no right or wrong way of hair painting, I think it looks really good and blended.
Tremendously helpful, thanks! Mid 40s and I promised myself teal hair when I lost 50 lbs.. Lost the weight, so needed to figure out how to balyage my greying ashy light brown hair, to get the results I want with the turquoise color. Thanks so much... in the past Id have dropped $400on multi process color at the salon bimonthly. As thats no longer an option budgetwise, you're a lifesaver, making my wellness reward a DIY option. Huge thanks!!!
I've looked at a bunch of tutorials but yours is probably the best I've seen. So descriptive yet casual! Plus you actually show the process. This is making me confident enough to try this method for the first time myself tonight! Already got the stuff.
Balayaging at home is honestly so easy you guys. I tried this technique at home with a highlighting kit (with cap). I did not use the cap, but instead did this technique and it turned out BEAUTIFULLY. you do not need a professional to do this method. just make sure your brush strokes at the top of the head aren't too thick and sloppy
Yes, why do hairstylists mess up a balayage when they have panoramic view of the whole head and complete movement control of the applicator brush? Bleach destroys hair as it lightens it, so doing a balayage requires swift movement as well, something to keep in mind when doing this at home or you’ll end up with really light pieces where you didn’t want them to be so light as the ends of the hair, and then you’ll have to do a reverse balayage, on damaged hair (time consuming and costly). This video is good, she’s doing it right and simple.
This is by far the best video I've seen. You make it look so simple and easy with these very clear instructions. And I love the fact there's no messing around with foils etc. Very helpful, thank you!
Seriously, This is a GREAT "Tutorial" video. You speak nice and clearly so the viewers can understand what you're saying. I love that you elaborate about each product, what they do and how it works. Along with this, you show us viewers exactly how, by doing it step by step on yourself instead of using a model. Because, lets face it, viewers are watching this video, (most of them) to do this technique on themselves. So great job! Oh, btw, you look wonderful! I LOVE IT! Thanks For Sharing +Aly Art. Stay Beautiful Inside and Out! Keep Smiling! -Cheri Gibson Trujillo-
I have watched hundreds of the DIY balayages, and I always come back to her. She has the best technique and instructional vid for those of you who wish to try this at home. Well done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Shruffle Love same here! So far she’s the only one who has actually made me feel like I can really do this myself. Tired of wasting money at the salon and not getting desired results :(
*"Where would sun spit on me when shining on my head?"* Hahaha! I love Russian/Ukrainian accents. I'm very impressed by your technique. Have you been formally trained?
Hi Aly and Thank You so Much! My hair is naturally like yours- a medium to dark blonde and until i saw your vid, there was NOTHING for balayage on natural blonde hair. I followed your technique and my hair looks beautiful! You explain it so well and make it easy for watchers to replicate. So much more Artistic and Natural than any other technique that I have seen, Much Love & Respect Rae x
Watched your video only for 7 minutes and already love your way of explanation. You would be an excellent teacher. That is an opinion of professional hairstylist.Bravo and thank you from Canada.
You're voice is beautiful! This video was so helpful because I went to a hairdresser, wanting to get balayage, and ended up getting very chunky highlights. I know my hair very well and have always dyed it myself, but I wanted to see if it was worth going to get something more complicated done. Turns out I could have done it myself all along.
Even though this is not something I would do, I watched from beginning to end! I enjoy all your videos and always pleased when I see you have a new one up!! Much love from Missouri, US!!
i love how you break this down. i have been highlighting and doing my hair ombre for years (non pro obv) and i learned so much from your techniques and the simple way that you say things
Hey Alyona, thanks so much for this video demonstration!! I just watched it for the 2nd time. I usually get babylights at the salon every 3 months + it costs $120 Canadian but I've been sick for a while + haven't gone for a touchup in over 6 months now. Yikes!!! So I decided to watch some tutorials on bleaching regrowth but all of the DIY's end up bleaching right onto their scalp + end up with 1 inch long banana yellow "HOT ROOTS" with another 3 inches of orange + then they end up having to do a 2nd full bleach which is horrible for your hair! I'm happy I finally watched your technique again before I tackle my hair at home. It seems that as long as you bleach hair without getting too close to the scalp (which processes much faster due to body heat) the blonde will be nice + light without the chance of brassiness. Great job on your hair + on the teaching technique!! I'll let you know how my hair turns out......
thank you for being one of the only people doing tutorials who speaks properly, great result,. I am about to balayage for the first time, very helpful. thank you
I have just tried this technique at home and my hair came out beautiful! I could not be happier. Not only I saved tones of money but I also ended up with a result exactly as I wanted. Saying that - my hair is naturally light so it lifts very quickly.
Sara I think she uses 30 vol developer with just a bleach powder, she doesn’t mention any toner so I think there was none. I used 20 vol developer because my hair is naturally quite light. I also used level 9 blonde hair dye with a 10 vol developer as my toner. The brand I used was Wella.
Few years ago I did pretty good diy balayage after watching your video, and i'm here again trying to go blonde again🤣! You are so talented thank you so much!
The trick to get getting that blurred balayage is to do baby lights throughout the entire head and doing a quick lightener application on the ends of the hair that aren’t in foils. I’m a cosmetologist, that is how I do all of my balayages. I’ve seen the method you’re doing and sometimes it turns out good but sometimes it’s spotty due to not enough saturation. If you want a perfect balayage, ask for a full high light and an accent between the foils. It turns out perfect everytime no matter the hair type.
Wow. Thank you so much for covering this subject so well and so thoroughly. You're really knowledgeable about this and many other things concerning hair, overall appearances, body shape, face shape etc. I would never have thought of all this but I'm so glad that I checked your channel before I did a balayage hair coloring on myself. Next I'm going to watch the one where you did balayge on yourself.
beautiful job! from a hairdressers point of view telling people to use 30 vol with bleach can be dangerous depending on their hair type and texture. love your videos they're very informative xo
As a former colorist/hairstylist (I still do my own), you MUST be very careful when using powder bleach & peroxide... it is not meant to touch the scalp, also, if applied to previously chemically processed hair, your hair could break off or give the appearance of wet cotton if over-processed. For dark hair, a very high peroxide volume must be used to achieve lighter tones, it wouldn't ever bleach to a pale yellow unless heat is applied or multiple applications are performed. If unsure of the process, timing, or products required, always go to your professional! Damaged hair is not easy to repair!
in your videos we usually only see the front of your face, so it's very interesting to see you from different angles- you have such a beautiful and unique profile!
Holy grail this looked phenomenal at the end. I really liked how it turned out and I didn't even think you could get results like that from home! 👏🏻💋 Hoping you do a "reverse balayage tutorial" because I'm a brunette and would really like to give myself some natural looking black ombre look. 💆🏻🌺
Thank u for sharing! I can no longer afford to get it done n my stylist royally messed up the color n technique of this n I paid a fortune. This is a tremendous help. I tried to see how my stylist dine it but she kept me from the mirrors while she did it
Great job! You are so well informed and obviously very intelligent. Therefore I love the way you speak English so literally eg where the sun spits on my hair. Perfect! And you create your words... almost but not quite right. I find it very sweet and endearing. I am NOT making fun of you. It adds to your appeal. I have subscribed and I look forward to seeing many more of your videos.
Hi Aly. I'm a hairstylist as well but haven't been practicing much the last several yrs. can I ask u 2 Qs about the lightener? 1) I was always taught that when the bleach/lightener dries it stops being active and that's one reason we foiled. Is that not true? Would you not need to cover your hair under the dryer with this then? 2) anytime I've practiced doing freehand lightener on myself or dollheads I notice the color bleeds a litter leaving faint, uneven splotches on the few hairs next to it. Not as bad as a foil bleed but spots don't looks natural on me:):) How do you avoid this & protect the uncolored hair in the sections as well as when laying sections on top of eachother? Maybe it all blends together & I'm overthinking it?
Lmao 😂 her curling technique though 😂😂😂 as a hairdresser I found that funny 😂 and her posing at the end 😂 anyway... not a terrible job I must say lol well done, the sun spitting on me haha 😂
I love the versatility and depth of your knowledgeable talent(s)! I've learned so much from your videos: ranging from makeup styles, general beauty input, and now hair techniques. Keep it up girl! You're one of my top 10 RUclips Cosmo-Heroes! :)
THANK YOU for this! You are so informative and helpful. If I am going to do a balayage like this but also dye the rest of my hair a dark brown, do you recommend I do the dark brown dye first and then add the bleach later or do them at the same time? x
Thank you so much for this! I’m planning to bleach my hair soon by myself bc I went to a salon last time and they did an amazing job but their balayage technique was very painful and i do not want to go through that again. This seems much easier and not painful at all
First off....this is one of the very best hair color tutorials I have ever seen!!! You went straight to the process and you were very descriptive. This video would be extremely helpful for the newbie at home attempting to color/bayalage their own hair...I unfortunately grew up in the pre-RUclips era and have weeped heavily at my hair color fails of the past, lol!!! Like I said, this is an excellent tutorial....many beauty vloggers start tutorials by chatting about random and irrelevant things for several minutes before the actual process. The opposite is done here- which is why I actually watched the whole demo and will be subscribing!! BTW....I love your accent, it is beautiful....where are you from? Keep up the excellent videos 👍👍💖💖
Aly, you are amazing!! I will definitly try this brushing tecnique. I have a lot of grey hair at the top of my head and I am not sure if I have the courage to let the roots grow out totally and go almost white. Would this also work for lowlights?
Amazing!! I have looked through so many videos on how to do this at home and this is the perfect video!! Your technique and knowledge are so well appreciated!! Thank you!!
I am so happy that you made this video and I watched it before I tried this! I've seen your other videos and I was excited that you made one like this! Thank you!
definitely the best video about how to do this! this helps a lot and im gonna rewatch it right before i bleach my hair for the first time! you really did an amazing job and i hope to get similiar results :)
Your every single video is amazing. I learn and try new things from your videos and I am surely gona try this hair colouring technique soon. Thanks Aly ...you explain really well❤
the colors look great on you ♡ I'd appreciate it if you could make a video about hair care ..how do you keep it healthy or how you prevent it from getting damage love you xxx
Aly, I have been watching you for years now and I just have one question for you... How is it that every year you look younger and younger? I'm serious I really wanna know what you're doing and how you're doing it, thank you
As a licensed cosmetologist and someone who does their own Haircolor, I would love to see pictures of your audience. Also you used Wella Blondor (manufactured by proctor and gamble) with Schwarzkopf Igora developer. It's best to use a lightener and developer from the same manufacturer for best results. Also a thicker consistency will keep the bleach from bleeding into the interior of your subsections.
Thank you for commenting this. I am worried a lot of people with dark level 1-4 hair is going to watch this and think they can go buy a box and be an ash blonde by following this video. And always always take measurements and not eyeball it, having the right consistency is so important especially with balayage.
+Jessica Huynh Yes, I went to Cosmetology School but had to quit, & I was only a few hrs from graduating. Butt I know enough & your right. I just wanted to personally Thank You for helping others on this post out, you're a Sweetheart! Too many people find that being Rude n Ignorant to others, that truly irritates me. THANKS for Being Helpful.
Cheri Gibson Trujillo aw thanks! That was so sweet of you! And i agree, i rarely comment on youtube anymore bc theres so many children thinking its cool or okay to be nasty to people, it makes me sick! Ones like you are a dime a dozen 😄
Your technique is the right one. I know this technique but I thought I couldn't make it on my own hair so I made the wrong decision to go to a salon. I will not go again because every time they fail do my hair exactly as I want them and pay a fortune and I don't have money. In four months I will do this method. The sectioning is difficult and to dye the back hair. Thank you
Elizopoulo ugh same here! I’m now watching RUclips tutorials so I can just get a feel of how to do it myself. I’m tired of spending a fortune and not getting the desired result at the salon :(. Thank God for RUclips!

Not as bad as a foil bleed but spots don't looks natural on me:):) How do you avoid this & protect the uncolored hair in the sections as well as when laying sections on top of eachother? Maybe it all blends together & I'm overthinking it?
Best DIY balayage tutorial on YT
lmao 5:29 "Where would sun spit on me, when shining on me?" cracks me up
Lmao 😂 her curling technique though 😂😂😂 as a hairdresser I found that funny 😂 and her posing at the end 😂 anyway... not a terrible job I must say lol well done, the sun spitting on me haha 😂
If I am going to do a balayage like this but also dye the rest of my hair a dark brown, do you recommend I do the dark brown dye first and then add the bleach later or do them at the same time? x
I am so pleased I found your channel. You are the most informative and thorough beauty youtuber Ive ever seen! I cant wait to see more makeup looks.
Balayage looks lovely on hair 😊
Thank you so much for this! I’m planning to bleach my hair soon by myself bc I went to a salon last time and they did an amazing job but their balayage technique was very painful and i do not want to go through that again. This seems much easier and not painful at all
painful!??!?!?!
I've watched about 100 of these videos, this is the best one. I'll be going for it tonight!!! thanks dear, I feel confident in your technique 💇
Aly - you always make everything that you do seem so effortless and easy! You have some awesome skills X
Woah, I wasn't expecting it to turn out so good. I'm trying this next time I bleach my hair!
Woah that was absolutely lovely! I wanna do this to my hair
+OffensiveUsername Thank you! ))) x x x
YES this is the kind of tutorial I'm looking for. perfect explaining👌 Thanks girl!
I will try this technique so that I can apply gray ombre to my hair. Thank you!
Thank you )))
Aly, you are amazing!! I will definitly try this brushing tecnique. I have a lot of grey hair at the top of my head and I am not sure if I have the courage to let the roots grow out totally and go almost white. Would this also work for lowlights?
wonderful!.. I want to make balyaj for my hair but I realy afraid but I watch your video I'm realy hapy! now I trust myself.thank you.
Amazing!! I have looked through so many videos on how to do this at home and this is the perfect video!! Your technique and knowledge are so well appreciated!! Thank you!!
This is the best tutorial for diy baleyage ive seen 👌 nicely shown and explained 👏
You honestly deserve a Nobel Prize.
I did it that way just free hand and I'm 62 it's the first time I've liked my hair this much!
I am so happy that you made this video and I watched it before I tried this! I've seen your other videos and I was excited that you made one like this! Thank you!
She is so calm and explain really well. Well I have a question. U didn't apply any color or tanner just bleached it. Isn't it damaging
I love how simple and clear you explain things! You're awesome and beautiful! I subbed after 2 videos!
looks beautiful! One of the best results from balyage I've seen! Wow! I'm going to do this on myself soon :)
офигенно! отличная салонная окраска получилась. а вы говорите, у вас корни окрашены. вы их предварительно затемняли?
I just found your channel. This video was so helpful, you have a gift of teaching. Thank you.

the colors look great on you ♡ I'd appreciate it if you could make a video about hair care ..how do you keep it healthy or how you prevent it from getting damage
love you xxx
+nenomawad Awad Thank you! i will try )))
Love love!! How she explained everything for us newbies on hair stuff lol. Thank you.
Im like trying to go through the comments and reply to as many as i can to save some people from a disaster and wasted money lol!
+Jessica Huynh it's truly trial and error for the brave! (Me way back in hair school comes to mind, lol)
I love how informative you are. Thanks. Looks awesome
