Thank you for this video! I honestly found this more educational and inspiring than a lot of the balayage classes I have taken! You made it look so effortless ! Beautiful end result!
Sorry, I may not wrote it right, I meant that you did a really good job like a pro without the ''hey look at me I can balayage anything attitude'' (English is my second)
Amazing! For one, I love the fact that you do not use foils, papers or a cumbersome board & show us a truly open air, freehand method. The explanation as to how you do the bricklaying is phenomenal and because I am taking matters into my own hands as DIYer I appreciate this video because I can visualize how to parse out hair & just do my roots with this technique & blend down into my pre-existing blonde. Wish me luck everybody... here goes nothing LOL
The diagrams are so helpful for really explaining how you do your sectioning! And the diagrams of the basic saturation levels make so much more sense now!
This is the BEST balayage video I've found. You explained all your steps and sectioning perfectly without adding unnecessary details. Exactly what I've been looking for to explain and simplify the process. Looks amazing!
I cannot tell you how much I LOVE LOVE this video!!!! Thank you so much. So clear, easy, and your model turned out so natural and beautiful!! Thank you so much, and please keep these coming, you are awesome!!
Omg thank you for this! Especially those diagrams! I’m going to be doing color for the first time in school this week and we need to know how to free hand like this! Made this soooo easy to understand
As stylists we are so proud of our accomplished Balayage finish, but do you ever find that clients ever call back and think it looks undone near the base? In my experience I have found that you must explain to clients clearly and concisely that it is different than stripy foils.
sunshine2049 I have also encountered this in the past. I started really taking extra time to explain to my clients who were transitioning from on the scalp foiled highlights to balayage that this technique will leave almost a "root shadow" to give the appearance of natural sunkissed highlights. For some of them who still want a lot of that brightness near the root I will balayage closer to the root and more of a full panel technique and sometimes do a base break to soften it a bit.
Amanda Kassardjian I agree. I love the base break, it really puts a gorgeous finish to the Balayage and makes it look seem less , which base break do you use?
It is clear once she finally gets to the point. If I want to hear about the storm and see photos, I generally turn on the weather channel. Otherwise, a very good video. Much better explanation than most.
I of course skipped the part that said don't do this on yourself. We live in desperate times now! lol anyways, I did this and def thought I would have to be a brunette after to fix it because my hair was so orange. But I mixed Wella T14, T10 and 050 as a toner with 10 developer and the results were pretty magical. I will do this again. I loved not using foils on myself. i think it's my lightener i'm using right now that isn't working with my hair. I am a level 8 but I lift very warm. I was using Wella Blondor for years when I would do my own highlights from time to time and never had problems with lifting to a nice yellow. So next time I do this I'll go back to a tried and true product.
Thank you so much!! This is one of the best videos I have watched. Simple directions that are straightforward, and especially great views of how you hold your brush and what you've done to the hair.
Her blonde is gorgeous! I am always so reluctant to do open-air balayage. I always do mine in a foil...foil-yage..? This gave me inspiration for my next blonde that comes in, and is naturally lighter, to try this technique! :)
This is seriously the easiest balayage vid iv seen and iv watched many for months. Im going from black hair which id bleached last year to brown level 4 lowlights and balayage 😊I didn't understand how to carry out the free painting but your sections/ triangles etc are very clear to understand the process 🎉🎉🎉tysm Can I use 30 vol on already lightened hair underneath? It was abig process to remove old dark box dye at home My hairs slightly compromised but looks nice atm..i already put in lowlights once recently with 10 vol for the light ribbons❤i just need yo balayage properly and redo the process once more
Thats so awesome! No matter how many years you've been in the industry, 1-100 years ;) , its so important to continue to educate ourselves to be the best stylist we can!!!
Beautiful work. I really appreciate how you teach, you make it so easy to understand. I do have a question though, why did you open air balayge? Was it because it was her natural regrowth?
+Amanda Garcia aweeee that is the best thing to hear ever! I'm always so happy when people can really get what I'm sharing. Yes, she has no problems lighteneing so she's the perfect person to balayage. I'm actually doing more open air techniques on my clients!
Thank you so so so much for making this video. As a stylist in Oklahoma there is limited education here so I get it where I can ! I love your videos and your little drawings made it so much easier to understand. I've done some balayage but still not completely happy with my work (I feel like that's what made us good stylist is continuing to master your work until your happy and comfortable with what you're doing ) any favorites on lightner for balayage? I just switched to redken from alphaparf last year and I LOVE redken. I need to try their clay because my go to is flashlift so I'm sure it's good stuff !
+Megan Danielle ahhh girl I know what you mean. Now that I live in California I can get so much education and it's great. Just keep trying things out and practice because you're so right you need to keep doing it till you're comfortable! I love using my regular light red and just making it thick. But you do need to use either foil, or cotton so it doesn't get onto the other hair. I've not used Redkens clay lightener, let me know if you try it!!!
Jack Winn makea a great Paint lightener....its silica technology and crystallizes around the hair shaft staying moist on the inside. I have fallen in love with it!
Alexsis, so is it not necessary even on brown hair going for blonde balayage to lay cellophane on top of the surface for when you lay down the next layer of hair down? won't the color bleed onto the next portion of hair sitting on top of the one with color? Thanks for the tutorials. They are very helpful.
I have watched only two of your videos so far and I am in LOVE 😍 I am about to graduate from a Paul Mitchell school in MD and I feel like I have learned way more from you in just two videos!!! Thank you sooooo much!!! I will definitely be watching more ! Btw, I have never heard of the Paul Mitchell style winder curling iron! I googled it and I can't find it anywhere! Do you know where I can get one?! Please help!!! ❤❤
So easy to understand!! It doesn't matter that some hair is touching other sections full of bleach? I've usually see it done with foils, doesn't it have small unwanted bleached sports when sections sit touching each other???
i love the diagrams! You have no idea how many times I've watched this - the one thing is that, every time I watch it I get so confused at 5:30 when you finish the first two sections in the back and then suddenly jump forward to the sides, without giving any info as to how many pieces should be done in the top back section... it looks like you've done something different there but I don't know what, if so. I wish I could get a full set of diagrams with exactly how many pieces you did in each section, how many sections you did on each area, and which technique you used on each piece. I've copied down your diagrams but they're very incomplete
Hi! I'm currently attending Paul mitchell school and would love to practice balayage. However, I see all kinds of techniques by the other students. Have you ever used paul mitchell brands of lightener and color?
When I'm balayaging first timers, I have to keep asking them to cooperate with where I want their head! It's not always easy when they're on mobiles or reading magazines! 😣
Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience with us Alexsis. Some people add bleach to half hair on the back of each section. Is it to make it blonder? Also if this is done to a brunette rather than an already blonde, would you make smaller sections and bring the bleach higher to avoid too much of dark roots? What do you suggest for brunettes?
This is a Great Tutorial... The BEST one Yet!!!! "Thank YOU" for sharing this "Beautiful" tutorial. I noticed you didn't use the Olaplex #2... does she do that at home between treatments?
So if my roots are darker than that (around level 4) and I want to lighten them up a couple of levels (maybe to a 6) and also balayage, how would I go about doing that? Would you recommend bleach to 7 and then dye, or a hi-lift? Also with touching up the roots as it grows out, would you just do the same lift and it should blend in seamlessly with the previously lightened hair (the level 6), and then use the lightener higher up on the ends? This has been racking my brain. Thank you!
Question- if you don't use cotton or papers or foil, does the bleach not bleed onto other parts of the hair that were left untouched? Or do you ad something to the bleach that works like a barrier?
geministylist81 I would imagine that it's a clay lightener. clay hardened on the outside and stay moist on the inside . I found that if I make a thicker light master mix I get the same results.
geministylist81 I just read up on this Jack Winn lightner, Their balayage one. It is like clay lightner, except some of them dry out. Where this one is suppose to create a shell and inside it stays wet to keep lifting. I believe Guy Tang's Pravana bleach is suppose to do this same thing. I have tried the Pravana, which I liked. As you may know the clay formula stays where you put it, and it is more forgiving than regular everyday bleach. I have seen many use this method with the regular bleach they do separate them so they don't bleed, but also for heat etc. Hope that's helpful.
This is one of the clearest hair tutorials I've watched on youtube
THANK YOU!
You're the first stylist I've seen that added diagrams 👏👏👏
You are a blessing to the hair community. This is better than any hair video I’ve watched and I’ve watched more than any normal person should🙃
Awe thank you so much 😊
Thank you for this video! I honestly found this more educational and inspiring than a lot of the balayage classes I have taken! You made it look so effortless ! Beautiful end result!
I completely agree also
Love the open air because I'm really bad with foils and cotton so this one is the best for me. Thank you!
She has the best natural base color for basically anything. You did a really beautiful job without effort! Love it :)
+zupatia you still have to know how to apply it or it can turn out splotchy and bad!
Sorry, I may not wrote it right, I meant that you did a really good job like a pro without the ''hey look at me I can balayage anything attitude'' (English is my second)

How did it go!?
Aww I love how gentle you are with her hair. It looks so beautiful and you explained everything so well. Thank you!
I have watched so many balayage videos, and this is the best I've seen hands down! So easy to follow and informative!
The diagrams are so helpful for really explaining how you do your sectioning! And the diagrams of the basic saturation levels make so much more sense now!
So glad it helped!
Her hair turned out beautiful! I love how you clearly explain everything you're doing and thank you so much for taking the time to make us diagrams! 💕
This is the BEST balayage video I've found. You explained all your steps and sectioning perfectly without adding unnecessary details. Exactly what I've been looking for to explain and simplify the process. Looks amazing!
Thank you so much girl!!!
Still by far one of the best balayage tutorials on RUclips well done you!
I cannot tell you how much I LOVE LOVE this video!!!! Thank you so much. So clear, easy, and your model turned out so natural and beautiful!! Thank you so much, and please keep these coming, you are awesome!!
Looks literally like her natural hair color! I'm so impressed! Also the drawings you made were super helpful! 🥰 Thank you!

sunshine2049 yes! Or they will say it's "uneven" not understanding balayage will have random pieces not uniform like foil highlights
I’m trying so hard to resist doing this to myself at home even though I know it’s a terrible terrible idea
Same bro
Did you do it??
Me three
🌹😘
Me too 😂
Love me some 9P! My personal "platinum" concoction with shades: 9P+9T+ a little clear.... you're welcome! 💛👍
It is clear once she finally gets to the point. If I want to hear about the storm and see photos, I generally turn on the weather channel. Otherwise, a very good video. Much better explanation than most.
Your videos are LIFE!!! Love the drawn out pics to help explain... love love love
+kimturner282 I'm so glad they help!!!! Thank you for watching!

Best balayage techniqu explanation I found by now!! What kind of mix is your concoction?
+Janinii3 oh thank you! It's a 3:1 R
Parabéns muito bem explicado. Apesar de eu falar em inglês. Mas deu para compreender bem. Pois sou cabeleireira 🔝
Wow! You are super talented!!
+SexycityBeast aweeeee ❤️ thank you!
So easy to understand!!
It doesn't matter that some hair is touching other sections full of bleach? I've usually see it done with foils, doesn't it have small unwanted bleached sports when sections sit touching each other???
Did you not do any highlights to the lower layers? The final results looks like you did, but you don't show this. Thanks
Was already blonde so she left it
Best education video i have ever seen👌👌👌💓💓💓100%
You’re the sweetest!
Just now found this video! Love it ❤️. Thank you for sharing!

+Bby-S0ne Army-L Carat- Candy Rice0pener-BLinKs aweeeeeeee YOU JUST MADE MY DAY!!!!!
Nice work great instructions well done
Your a good teacher! Looks good! but does the bleach bleed on to the other hair when it lays on top of each other?
+Lola Mo not with this brand of lightener, when mixed properly!
Love it!!! The lighting is great
i love the diagrams!
+Jodi m I just tell them to keep their head that way or I'll have to take away their fun haha!
Katie is stunning!
Yes she is 😊😘
It's beautiful 😍 nd very helpful techniques 👌thank you
Did you mix the 9N and 7G together with the 10 developer or did you use them separately?
I love this video!!! Thanks for your upload!!!
Thanks. Amazing tutorial 🤓
+twonny84 thank you for watching 😘
If your not an educator you should be. Great video

+KAREN STANCATO thanks for watching 💞
This is a Great Tutorial... The BEST one Yet!!!!
"Thank YOU" for sharing this "Beautiful" tutorial.
I noticed you didn't use the Olaplex #2... does she do that at home between treatments?
+Judi Christopher thank you! I do use Olaplex #2 I just don't show it on camera because it's a given step to the process!
this came out so beautiful..❤😀
Hello there. Does it become orange after you lighten your hair? I apologize badly in English I could not fully understand. what did you use
I wach yours all video its so perfect and very profesional😍
Awe thank you so much!
Thank you! Love the diagrams!!
Looks STUNNING! What ratio of SEQ 09P to clear did you use?
+Lily Jeovanna depends on every client! I used 1/3 P to 2/3 clear on Katie!
So if my roots are darker than that (around level 4) and I want to lighten them up a couple of levels (maybe to a 6) and also balayage, how would I go about doing that?
