(Blonde olaplex redken hair colour ombre Balayage hair how to ombre ombre vs balayage)
This is the best balayage tutorial I've seen
Freehand balayage has always been something I've been uncomfortable doing. I loved how you showed the underside of your sections.
Wow fantastic to hear Amanda I hope you can take this technique to the salon floor with you some time soon 😁👍🏻
Ive been doing balayage since b4 it had a name lol
After thinking and thinking way too much I finally decided to take the risk and use this technique on my own hair for the first time at home. I NEVER ever have done balayage on my own so I was completely stressed and worried at the same time that I could damage my hair or have a completely fail result. I didn't need anyone else, just me and you helpful video.
I watched very carefully every step you did and I must definetely say I LOVE how it looks!!! I cannot believe how awesome look this balayage technique on my hair!! Even my husband and friends told me that my hair look stunning and very natural. It was easier than I expected. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! I will be using this techinque always!
FYI: Even when I did this for the first time, it took around less than an hour to complete the whole process. I can't be more satisfied! ^_^
How did you do it on your back?
I love the fact that u talk with us about the financial benefits of this technique plus the way u explain the technique it self was easy i want to see more of ur tutorials
Glad you find that part of the tutorial useful I think or tutorials need context rather than just technique
Anyone else watching this because they are about to attack they're own hair with bleach 😂🤔👀
Good luck 👍🏻
I'm about to attack my mom's hair 😂 mine is already ruined
Yessssss LOL
100%!!!
How did it turn out?
I always end up doing my own balayage and I use this technique but dont use a brush (just gloves and my fingers) I like to push up my hair with my fingers in a swiping motion to really blend the bleach. After I let it sit for about 20 minutes, then rinse and only use shampoo to wash out any product. After, I like to put a medium ash brown to blend the highlights (loreal has some great choices) and that gives me the most natural looking balayage and blends it perfectly.
Hi, what loreal product and color 6A?
Not me watching this the day before I do this on a client lol
Same here!
Not me watching two hours before lol
How’d it turn out? I’m nervous for tomorrow xP
me too lmao
No ! It's me 30 min before doing it on my daughter lol. We learned BRIEFLY in school how to balayage
Talent!! I've been doing hair for over 17 years, i still learn something every day, and doing this technique scares the shit out of me,i know i just need to practice and do it more often, because im really tired of backcombing the hair for my ombres or balayges and would love to get this technique down, awesome job, thank you for sharing your talent with us🤗😊😁👏👏👏👏
Wonderful Haley, it’s just practice, and you will smash it, in no time 👍🏻
This is the best balayage tutorial on RUclips, thank you!
Wonderful thank you very much glad you appreciate it
I went to cosmetology school but never graduated because of Covid, but I used your technique and it came out perfect! The back took some TIME but it was worth it.
I did my own hair using your tutorial and it came out so good!!! I wasn’t even nervous ♥️ my hair looks great!!
Wonderful glad it went well
I did this the first time i tried balyage. i had 0 teqnuique, decided to eyeball it & just went for it - shocked it turned out super nice & not a blotchy mess. Ive not been able to recreate it since watching vids to learn how to... & now i realise my mistake 😂😂😂 super helpful vid!
Wonderful glad it went well thank you for letting me know
I just used this video as a guide and did my own hair and it came out pretty dam good..its was fast and easy to do.
Thank you! I'm thinking about doing it!
Did you find it easy to paint the back pieces? I've REALLY been wanting to try this, but I'm afraid of trying to do the back. It's always hard when I try to foil the back.
@@debbiepacker. it was easy cause you don't have to saturate the hair with dye. You only brushing it on like if you were painting on your hair
@@dontlookforme1999 Thank you so much! That's very good to know. I might give this a try after all!
@@debbiepacker. go for it!!!
I have been freehand baliaging my own hair since 87. For me it was key to style my hair prior to “hair painting”. It is easier than you think.
Could you do a video of you painting your own hair I would love to do this, I'm sick of paying for highlights in not satisfied with..😊
Thank you for this great tutorial. I used this technique on a client with super thick hair. A bit nervy at the front applying so much bleach freehand to so much hair but remained confident in your teaching and it looked great. So pleased with the result. 👍🏼
Fantastic Sarah so pleased it worked out for you thank you very much for your comment
So much easier than what they’re showing us in school! Thank you!
I just found your channel, and seriously SO HELPFUL! I’m always looking for ways to learn better techniques specifically in the salon, not DIY home hair projects 😂 thank you so much for what you do!
Wonderful Rachel glad that you have found the channel to be very useful to you it’s always fantastic to hear from people in the channel has benefited them
I have used it today and I loved it!! You have restored my confidence in balayage. Those tips are vital and they do work. I follow you for some time now and you have never disappointed me. Thank you James x
Absolutely wonderful to read thank you very much for letting me know
Plz tell me shade.
I did this technique yesterday and it turned out beautiful. I’m doing the customers sister this weekend. Wow he’ simplified the procedure and I appreciate it.
This is literally AMAZING!! Getting back into doing hair and trying to find new techniques to lessen the time it takes I will definitely be giving this a go!🙌🏽🙌🏽
That’s a true balayage! In terms of technique! Not the other videos that are going around and they just to do highlights and call it balayage
100% and this is a true Balyage for sure not a foilyage is not a set of highlights for the root stretch on glad you enjoyed the video
What you mean a balayage ISNT when you do an entire platinum card of teasylights?????? shocked I tell you
Gorgeous results!! All the way around. And SO quick and easy too! Such an awesome method; thank you for sharing! 😊
I’ve been using a foil back comb technique, and it takes way longer, I’m definitely going to try this!! Thank you :)
Wonderful Liz I would love to know how you get on
This is INCREDIBLE 🤩🤯 I’ll definitely try these techniques, especially for the money piece
Okay wow I appreciate how specific you are -i.e following the lines & shape of the skull...
Just followed you here from a brad Mondo video of yours.
Excited to check your other videos- I'm looking to do balayage on my hair-which is a couple of inches below my chin.
If at any point in time you care to share any wisdom regarding how to compensate for short hair when doing this technique -on behalf of the short-haired community whom I've self-appointed myself to speak for -THANK YOU 💜YOU ARE SO APPRECIATED!🙂
Amazing work!!! You are truly motivating me to go to cosmetology school 🏫 you make everything look so easy specially this freehand balyage. Love it 😊
WOW that make me feel so happy that I am helping you get on with you schooling keep going there is an amazing career out there for dedicated stylists👍🏻😁
Watched few times at weekend & this wk created 3 beautiful free hand balayage’s thank u 🙌🏻

Excellent thanks for sharing your knowledge. Especially helpful during a pandemic. Doing ballyage at home

I love this video, no back combing or teasing or whatever it’s called now. I would never get the tangles out of my hair if I teased it. Actually I don’t even really understand the point of the back combing, doesn’t using smaller sections do the same thing?
No back combing blends from the root to where the bleach begins so u don’t get harsh lines of bleach. There is a proper way to back comb and be able to easily remove it when done. I do not recommend back combing if you aren’t a licensed cosmetologist. If u don’t know proper technique you will cause un needed damage.
Thank you so much I am a hairdresser from Fiji Island and will surely try this thanks so much
You are very welcome, WOW Fiji 🇫🇯 cool 😎 ✌🏻
This technique is the more simple I've seen ever.I loved it.
Wicked thank you very much
TY for sharing...I like your technique the best because it’s less damaging to the hair..and looks fantastic!!
Beautiful result sir. Thank you. I have to teach a class on this and I think I will use this technique.
Superb hope it goes down well. 😁👍🏻
I’ve done this on my daughter and it worked perfectly. I bought the Wella Freelights products and just went in and it was amazingly easy. I’ve never done hair in my life.
Fantastic Cath so pleased it worked out for you
Glad it worked out I'm gonna try it.
I love this technique very impressed.. Can this be done in blonde as well will it look as good ???
Wonderful Adam glad you enjoyed this one Yes it can be done and blonde hair but you don’t get the same level of contrast as you do on darker hair colours so it won’t look quite as high impact 👍🏻
What color toner did you use and did you put it on wet hair? If so, how long did you leave your toner? What brand toner? It looks auburn... nice job!
WOW I LOVE YOUR TECHNIQUE!!😍
I always been scared of doing this trend, but for sure I'm gonna try this, THANK YOI!😘
Help!! I would love a tutorial for balayage on medium hair length with lots of layers (think shag or just lots of layers all over on thick hair with bangs).😊🙏😁
I wish I could use this but when you work with mostly level 3 hair or lower freehand equals orange. If someone has tips to use freehand on the darkest levels I’m open to hear
This is GORGEOUS!!I've seen a lot of techniques and this is beautiful
Wonderful job sir, very informative and brilliantly executed! How long should the application process take?
Omg thanks so much for your tips on how to do this. Now, I realize when I was in cosmetology school, I didn’t put enough lightener and blend it well on my mannequin. Hence I been scared to do balayage on clients.
Wonderful hope this give me the confidence to try on a client
Looks the easiest to do. So il be giving it a go myself.
I wish I could use this technique on myself but also as a correction to previous highlight. Any suggestions or advice?
Yes it would be pretty tricky to do it on yourself so in terms of advice or suggestions I’ve personally never done it myself so I’m a bit short of ways to help you unfortunately Sorry about that 👍🏻
Love Ur simple technic so much!
Glad you enjoyed them 👍🏻
My butt cheeks were clinched through this whole video lol. It came out beautiful, but I’m terrified of balayage. I always end up using foils 🤦🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️
This comment made me laugh out loud when I first read it I couldn’t imagine where it was going glad you appreciated the video all the best James
Gorgeous end result and amazing technique!!
Thank you Dana 👍🏻😁
Really good !Simple yet effective and beautiful !
I am loving this look. Am considering balayage and love the technique you use.
Wonderful do you enjoyed it thanks for the comment
Watching AS i do my friends hair 🤭🫣🫣
You are a great hair dresser I loved it your work it's very helpful for me
Thanks for teach me your technique, it's great.
Thank you so much for the efforts making the video James, much appreciated.
I'm so curious why you choose diagonal forward sections? I've always done diagonal back, and would love to know your thought process behind this!
Im in love w the background in the beginning
AMAZING RESULTS!
Just wanted to clarify processed view of parting prior to rinsing and toning looks different than finished look- did you apply on a middle part or the part that this is styled with for the finish look?
To be perfectly honest in this particular video I wasn’t really taking into account the natural parting or any specific parting I’ve just styled it the way it looked best however if you’re going to do this technique on a client something that I neglected to say in this video is that it is best if you use the natural parting of the client to ensure you get the points of light in their parting
I'm going to try this very soon I hope it will turn out good
Me to
Wonderful hope it goes well
Hope it goes well
Your technique helped me 👍
Superb 😁👍🏻
Beautifully done.
I’m going to do this to my friend!!! I’ll come back and update
How was it?

What happened?
Siii , 30 minutos .
Muy buena , ganar tiempo al tiempo .
Gracias .
You’re very welcome
Hi I like your work but please tell which colour toner did you apply and the what no vol?
Hello! Just found your page and am loving it! You have no trouble with spotting when using regular bleach? Do you mix the bleach a bit thicker to help it stay in place as not to bleed through the top layer?
James will this work on dark hair that has previously been balyaged and hilited?
Thank you so much for sharing with us 🇺🇸
You’re very welcome M Lo
On ur up coming clips would u please till us what toner and what hair color level u used ,it would be greatly appreciated thank you 🙏
Yes I have a plan for a video exactly like that in the not too distant 😁👍🏻
You are genius!👏👏👏
Wow !! This is gorgeous!!
Thank you very much
Muchísimas gracias de todo corazón me ha encantado el vídeo
Awesome look.
Schwarzkopf clay blondme protects the hair around from being bleached. Try that.
I just saw a magic trick 🤩
Stunning 💕💕
Thanks for sharing. I love the results
Wonderful Rebecca thank you very much
Great video, beautiful result. I was wondering if you set a timer for 45 minutes, do you start when just applied bleach, or when you’re al done? Bleached and toned for the first time. Took me 40 minutes with foils, so the first ones were almost done when I finished 😅 what do you recomand?
Great question thank you very much I just set the timer from when I’m finished with Colour jobs like this scalp beaches and other colours I tend to start a timer when I have finished the first quadrant I do quite often but wash the back off though before the front. 👍🏻
The Life Of Hair thank you so much for your response. Will use this tip tomorrow. Love all the videos and knowledge you’re sharing. Have a great day from a fan in the Netherlands 🙋🏻♀️
I have always wondered this same thing. So start timing when you're about a quarter of the way in?
Either do what he said, work faster or start with a lower developer and go up to the next level developer when you remix another bowl.
You lifted the ends before this video. It should be noted that doing this technique on someone with a level 5 haircolor or darker will have an end result that is brassy. The reason for this is because clay processing at room temp doesn’t lift well because there’s no heat. Some people purchase oscillating humidity color processors, which are very expensive. Humidity is needed because reg heat drys out the clay which stops the lifting process. I recommend doing balayage with clay on levels 7 and higher. Any darker I ALWAYS use foils. Clean application. The filming is great and your well spoken.
It's a mannequin, it's probably had its hair highlighted and colored before the video. I don't think he did that deliberately. He's also showing a technique and not what to use for the lightener.
Me encantoooo!!!! Lo pondre en practica! Saludos desde chile 🇨🇱🇨🇱
Why dont he saturate the entire starnd (top & back)? Is it always only just the top?
Hi Momo thank you for your question Balayage is just a surface painting technique if we start saturating The entire Strand the effect of Balyage has lost
So early ! Thanks for this video !
You are very welcome Amanda 😃✌🏻
LOVE LOVE IT! THANK YOU.
Wonderful and you’re very welcome
Wish He would of showed us the final by pulling her hair back and opening the sections to see the inside. Especially all that lightener going across her bang area and nothing at all on nape. Curious of what it would look like in an updo or ponytail
Hi Tammy yes that’s a good suggestion. there is no colour in the nape area as this technique is supposed to mimic the sun Lightening your hair, so there will only be Colour on the top brighter round your face And Colour mainly in the areas where the Sun would get to for instance it’s quite unlikely that you will get sun lightning in the nape area however When we are dealing with the Sun If you wanted to add some underpainting to the night hairline then that is perfectly acceptable depending on the needs of your client I think with Balyage that we need to be careful that it’s not a technique to completely change the colour remember when we are highlighting or Balyage and we are using pieces of light to create texture and ascent the natural colour so I always do less personally your clients might need more colour than I would do and therefore you would probably need to paint the underneath potentially but it’s a person-to-person situation give this grey ago and see what you think I would love to know how you get on
@@TheLifeOfHair thank you so much for the reply
What bleach and lifter are you using.?
Could you possibly do a video on reverse bayalage?
Hi Alexandria me I have previously had already done videos on how to do a reverse Balleyage if you go to RUclips and put in the life of hair followed bye reverse Balleyage you will find it hope you enjoy all the best James
Hello I wanted to know that would this balayage money piece look good on black hair with light brown will u recommend it ??
Yes absolutely that will look fantastic
Thank you for sharing this technique. I know the video is older but I assume it is one you still support as a good method. I have a couple balayages to do this weekend and I am booked back to back with short appt times and no time in between so a very quick but still a full service is exactly what I need.
Yes this is a cracking technique that I still use all the time and do not see a time in the near future where I wouldn’t condone this technique it works perfectly and you have a good week all the best James
@@TheLifeOfHair Thank you so much James. I used this technique today and while it took me a little bit over the 30 minutes it takes you, I think it turned out great.
This is beautiful
Wonderful glad you liked it
Could you also still backcomb the sections before painting?
You could do but there is absolutely no reason to with this particular technique. I mean obviously it would give you more softness potentially but when you’re free hand painting providing you’ve got some practice under your belt I don’t think there is real need. Just remember is if you do back comb the sections then ultimately you’ll have more colour further down the hair and you would with the technique where you don’t that time hope that helps.
Absolutely gorgeous!!!
Thank you
You’re very welcome Sarah
Ty for a quick tip
When applying toner do I apply it only to the lightened areas only?
Thank you for that reply storm
As Dom said yes you just need to apply to all of the hair and it will only work on the head that is at the same lightness as the tone you are using it should have no effect on the rest of her providing it is a true semipermanent with a low volume peroxide
@@TheLifeOfHair I used used 20 volume and it turned out beautiful
Where can I buy this plastic transparent sheet that u used in this video please
These particular sheets are from ProCare
Thanks
@@TheLifeOfHair what are they called, just plastic strips?
Hi thanks for the videos , how come this video you do forward Diagonal and the other one you do back diagonal. Is forward more bright ?
You didn't show the front where you heavy handedly coated, with your part down the middle. I feel like this was purposely obfuscating.
I am still struggling after licensing program got, but I just want to need more techniques specially perfect toning matching colouring on hair piece or original head. This is very difficult but I know it’s very easy.
Which clay lightener did you use? I am not seeing it listed.
Redken freehand Clay lightener
Hi, I’m wanting to try this technique myself sometime soon. I got balayage professionally a few months back, but I wasn’t happy with the result as it just wasn’t as much blonde as I wanted. Do you recommend I try not to overlap with the areas that have already been lightened a lot? Or is it okay to put bleach on top of those. And what level developer do you suggest I use? My natural hair is level 7 and the lightened pieces are probably level 9.
Hi Anna thank you for your question if you’re happy with the level of lightness but just want more of it then try and avoid overlapping areas that have been previously built as this can create damage if you’re level seven and want to get up to a level nine then 20/30 volume will be sufficient I would go with the flow of all if you feel like you’re going to struggle not to overlap areas that have been previously pre-lightened but if you feel like there’s plenty of room in your head to put in new colour then I would go in the 30 volume hope this helps all the best James
Beautiful, may I ask want to do my hair, like this havent had my hair done. Since april, had all over color with hightlights. So how would I go about doning this on my hair.i want a med, dark Brown base,an carmal lights.can you help me out
No you don’t need to start with this hombre affect to get the same sort of results as I do in this video you can simply start from natural brown or whatever colour you are may want to saturate the end is a little bit more than I did in this video if that was the case but generally speaking your starting point isn’t specifically relevant to the end result in the sense that the amount of lightness that you see in this video is really because of the amount of light and it was applied by the technique hope that makes sense all the best James
@@TheLifeOfHair Hello! I'd like to do a base color of dark blond(a chocolate color) with 3 lighter blond glosses for detail with the balayage method. Can you explain how I may do that with the free hand technique? I have a link to an Instagram post with the look I'd like to achieve: instagram.com/p/CLidFerBZKq/?igshid=hrr8txecv7zi
Do you do anything different when you use regular bleach instead of “balayage lightener”? Saturation difference?
Not generally my mixing ratio is always 1 to 1.5 parts so for instance 30 g of powder to 45 g of bleach whenever I’m doing a Balyage if I’m at processing I will always bump my developer one level but apart from that that’s it 😁👍🏻
Hi may I know what ratio should be if I am using cream bleach instead of powder
love this.
Wonderful thank you very much for your comments
Perfect technique aand great blending work. What vol H2O2 with Freehand? Did you use a gold copper toner?
Thank you heather. Well I normally use 30 or 40 vol with freehand lighteners I used a level 8 mocha gold the lift was yellow orange in between and 9 and a 8 😁👍🏻
@@TheLifeOfHair thank you James!
