Me I color my base with 7n mixed with 8n or sometimes just 7n then I do balayage and some highlights with foils depending what I feel like. I like my hair better than ever! I keep it conditioned well p.s the balayage is fun it's like being an artist!
Thank you so much! This was a genuine DIY tutorial (there are lots of awesome ones, but more focused on dying other people's hair or they require being able to foil the back of ones own head alone). Thank you so much!
@@Kayd2111at least you didnt go in with 99% untouched hair that you spent 1-2 years growing out, ask for a balayage, long layers with curtain bangs and get your hair butchered. @@Kayd2111 it will be alright its just hair it will grow back out. Just really unfortunate. I ended up going home and having to even it out. I'm just going to bleach it a few shades and dye it a lighter brown till it can grow out again and I can go in for a proper balyage, hopefully by then I can find someone who actually knows what they are doing. I will prob have to go visit one of the major cities to find someone. Its just ridiculous that these stylists can even rent a chair and cut peoples hair without knowing what they are doing. I could have got the same results from my 12 year old niece.
This is exactly what I needed! I am doing it today with supplies I purchased at Sally’s. They kinda talked me in getting a cap to pull it all through but I don’t like a “ Striped “ look and also I’m lazy and don’t want to take the time to do it and who can pull it through on the back of you head without eyes back there?! I don’t have the clay lightener and wish I could find that because the concept seems really smart to me- I’m gonna do it with regular bleach kit using 30 volume and I did get a toner just in case it looks brassy and like you I just picked out one that seemed right. I’m a little nervous but I’m going for it! If it really is crazy I can always color over it right?!… I’m not a professional but after doing my hair at home for years I feel like I should have an honorary degree! Lol. Thanks for breaking it all down so well your tutorial is the best on RUclips without all the dumb stuff about a person’s personal life! Bravo !!
There are better ways to lift lighter for darker hair. Kristi Jennings (Kristi at the Cottage) shows how to highlight your own hair. But doing this on your own is always risky. I do my own and am not licensed.
Definitely trying this at home! However I've bleached my hair a lot and have no problem chopping it off if something goes wrong. Which it hasn't yet. Wishing all you home hair stylist luck, we're a different breed!
Exactly. For a balayage it will cost thousands of crowns. A regular bleaching will cost between 800-2000:- if you look for hairbstylist outside the cities. So I agree with you.
Yep! Just make sure you don't damage it! It's recommended to use something that isn't... Strong. The strong stuff are for licensed professionals and I must say from personal experience, even when I was most careful, using salon strength bleach (20 vol) was very damaging. Use something sweet and mild, and go for a more natural look. That way if you decide to take it up higher you can go to a pro and the pro would still be able to bleach it properly without worrying that you're gonna go bald.
not only that they dont know how to deal with brunettes...I go get it done in Greece...I cant go now because of waiting for citizenship so I will attempt on my own...Pray for me. 🤣
I have level 4-5 brown hair and want level 5-6 hair with slightly darker roots. I use 2 parts 10v and to one part powder bleach. I leave it on for 15 minutes. I start by dividing the hair into 8 sections plus money piece. I apply the product it in the back with a paddle brush, like literally brush it through, roots to ends.It looks like there is no product and the bleach is dry. This is what you want rather then saturated with bleach. When I get to the front I apply to the money pieces liberally because I want them to stand out, then I got back and pick out some choice pieces as highlights. really tiny strands not high chunky ones. Sometimes I tone it but most the time I dont bother. It just adds a bit of lightness and the best bit is you cant see the regrowth, I touch it up roughly every 5 months at the roots with a tail comb on the top and perimeter where the hair grows it.
Hair stylists always say "don't try this at home" instead of realizing it's not rocket science. People don't want to pay $500 for a balayage and CAN do their hair at home. I wish there was a step by step out there that actually empowers women that they can do it and it's just simple knowledge... Not horribly complex. It may take a couple years of practice, but it's doable!
I do mine at home and I get 80% decent results and 20% spotting or demarcation. I’ll take that over spending an arm and a leg and being rushed by a stylist that needs to get the next client in.
Omg….the word MOIST makes me cringe too! At all cost..I try not to use the word! Lol Great video, it was so helpful! I am not a Cosmologist so I won’t be doing my own hair at home this weekend😉😉😜
40 vol developer not 30 for hair that isn't in foil. Make sure the bleach will lift to 7 levels . Been doing mine for 30 years but only pull mixture through top layer and smaller strands. As a professional hairdresser for 30 yrs. I also use Sun In spray hair lightener with a blow dryer, not sun in between bleachings which I do 4 times a year.
Can I use 20 volume instead? Also, what would you recommend time wise if I have copper colored hair and I’m just trying to get some strawberry blond highlights.
@@Bekah_and_co_prohair Thanks for the reply. I am going to use the esalon balayage kit for copper hair. Since this is a diy and my first try with any kind of highlights it might be best for me to stick to a kit. 😂
The before looks better, your natural level 6/7. However, you would look great as a 9/10 N blond. The level 8 highlights are bland. Go for level 10 blond highlights.
Who has tried highlighting their hair at home?
I've never had mine done at a salon

I am so happy to finally see someone with my hairstyle to balayage their hair. Thank you so much. It looks beautiful
Me, and it always turns out looking amazing just as I wanted! I'd rather ruin my hair than pay someone to ruin it lol
I found your video while searching how to balayage at home! Sorry girl but I will for sure follow your technique hehe!
This is literally the Best video I've watched with someone balayage-ing their own hair.
Thank you!

"dont try this at home"

How did it go?
Hahahaha me too....literally
😂😂😂😂
❤️❤️❤️
Me too
You honestly did better than everyone else I've seen diy balayage! Great skills!
I paid paid 300 dollars for a straight haircut and balayage. It was way too dark and i cried that i paid so much for it. I am doing it myself. Haha😊

Thanks for the tips. I do my own at home after two bad experiences with a hairdresser and paying $280 Aus each time! Looks great 🙌
I also prefer doing mine by myself, stylists never do what you ask for
I paid $450 for airtouch highlights and they’re barely visible. I had asked for balayage and to almost be blonde so yeah never again.

I will do it at home. ;-) But with a colour insted. This was a good guide how to separate the hair. Just what I was looking for. ^^
I bleach my hair then rinse and add light/medium ash brown to counter the orange/red

I'm here trying it anyways unable to find any comments on how much im about to potentially destroy or make my hair better.... where are those ppl at?
i will try to bleach my hair at home tonight, i’ve been thinking about it WAY TOO MUCH. Did u have good results?
How do I ask for a haircut like this? It’s so cute omg
I wanna know the same thing. I've always wanted a cut just like this.
It’s basically a shag haircut
trying this @home 😂
I use color instead of toner Cuz can predict that better on my hair after highlights
What os color
Great color and technique. Also, you look so much like a younger Lauren Graham from Gilmore Girls!!!!
What about toner number mixture ?

Brilliant ..thankyou
Looks good but you telling us not to try it at home but you did😂
you're voice is very nice. u should voice act or do commercials
Can u feel the bleach on your skin? U have nice hair! 😊
Sometimes. Not as much with the clay
What level is your bio hair? TIA!
Super⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I want to do this on extra long hair…
❤
Foils required , were it that easy to paint anywhere 😅but its jot bad
Is toner optional? 🤔🤔
It depends on your final goal
❤️❤️❤️
Why not use a towel and cape around your neck? Need to protect skin and clothes from the bleach. Hair looked good though (both before and after).
😍😍😍
See I wanna see it straight bc curling covers the flaws to me
I just wanna know how itchy your neck got 😂
Lol, just a little
You don't need to warn us lol we aren't kids 😂
U literally look like lorelai gilmore 😭😭😭😭from Gilmore girls
I’m watching this at Chikfila 😭
Would love to see it without waves
The before looks better, your natural level 6/7. However, you would look great as a 9/10 N blond. The level 8 highlights are bland. Go for level 10 blond highlights.
I liked her hair better before the balayage
Lol
Sure I won’t try this… adds bleach to cart
Basically balyage is easy haha
DONT DO THIS
This whole video comes across so condescending
I cannot fathom how. 😆
It looks cute! I’m gonna try this now lol
Good Luck!
So is this a how to do it yourself or how not to
Don’t. But go for it.
Hmu when yall need this mess fixed!!
